On the ironically titled “Your World Today”, CNN’s ‘host’ just labeled Obama’s specifically scheduled speech to address the incendiary nazi-/Hitler comments made by George Bush In Israel, as an “Oprah-esque event”.

Nazis = Oprah??

I don’t think even the Republicans would have tried such a rotten slur.

This was produced, written directed and choreographed by CNN, the network. Their hosts say what they are paid to say and it happens much to frequently to blame on bloopers spoken by a stream of newbies.

So Christy, thanks to our Congress and Supreme Court -both of whom bend over backwards for every whim by George Bush and the Chamber of Commerce, we’ve transgressed into the propaganda laden media environment seen only in those ‘backward’ countries of Communist China, North Korea and Russia.

The vile nature of our media is such that it can no longer be said that it’s our political parties at the root of our problems anymore. Rather the media conglomerates like CNN now represents a new viral strain of a cancer grown so resistant and so all powerful, they’re destroying the very host they fed off of.

When Obama takes the helm in ‘09 and new fresh blood flows into the 111th, and the FCC, they better hit this issue hard -and break up these monopolies .

Or they’ll never see the 112th.

ah, i wish i’d been here for this one…. i sooo much to say on the topic.

hope there will be another time for this, when the servers aren’t having trouble. because i think there is a fundamental issue that we’re not addressing.

some folks you can’t save, because they have been too broken to fix. But some folks, you can help out by simply showing some compassion, some respect, and some kindness and by helping them learn to respect and care for themselves.

this works for kids, and i’m behind it 100% - for children.

but i completely reject the idea that i know what adults need, that it’s my job to teach anyone. i think it’s my job to ask if i can help, and then to follow the lead of those who are in need, who are oppressed and who are suffering. because they know best and it’s my job to learn from them.

when we believe we know best or when we act like we do, we foster resentment - and even more importantly, we don’t give very good help.

btw, this is i think, the source of what rings true for people when liberals are despised for their elitism. it’s not so much so the car or the coffee - it’s the attitude of “i know best” that is so very destructive both domestically and in our foreign policy.

and that btw is why, in addition to his record as a senator, is why i could never get fully behind edwards. it wasn’t his hair cuts or his big house (although that doesn’t help), it was the attitude that he knows better than the poor what they need.

I really liked how he set the tone for the nomination with respecting Hillary for her accomplishments. It is the same tone that Obama keeps coming back to. Respect for differences, brush off the trivial distractions, and focus on the issues.

Sheesh . . . I am too damn old to tear up like a baby. Every time Obama, Edwards or Clinton speak I honestly believe that very soon this nightmare will end and that hard work and morality will be rewarded. Yes - we can . . . .

I wish there were a program where an American family can “adopt” an Iraqi family. I’d like to encourage us to get to know them by helping them, those who are displaced, who have lost family members who never had anything to do with this atrocity, to give what we can to help them in their day to day lives, and not just money. Could we send them sneakers for their kids, bags of rice, WHATEVER, but through the giving actually get to KNOW our family. I’d like to do that, if for no other reason than to let them know that we as a people ARE NOT WITH STUPID!

Hi Christy. You wrote:

some folks you can’t save, because they have been too broken to fix. But some folks, you can help out by simply showing some compassion, some respect, and some kindness and by helping them learn to respect and care for themselves.

If we set up a system like that, some will take advantage of it. People have a visceral reaction against being played for a sucker, and you can be sure a program like that will provide anecdotal evidence of just that. How do we anticipate it and prepare to persuade people that even taking that into account it is in our enlightened self interest to support the program? Because if we don’t it will get outraged into oblivion when the first examples surface.

I agree with the general sentiment, but for the life of me I cannot understand who the “all of us” is. When I hear Edwards now my reaction is to watch my back because I feel I’m being suckered. YMMV, and good luck with that.

Christy — thank you so much for this post. It is spot on. It says better than I could ever say why I am a much maligned “librul” and why so many of us are desperate for change and the kind of change we’re looking for. I am so glad we have someone like you to capture these ideas and help move us forward, beyond the dark hole and muck we’ve been wallowing in for so long now.
