So, George Bush, voted most second most popular President ever by both the James Buchanan and Warren G. Harding Fan Clubs, goes off to another country and makes a speech slandering his potential successor.
And John McCain, riding those 27% approval coattails jumps in with both feet, because he's so darn classy:
Senator John McCain...wholeheartedly endorsed Mr. Bush’s veiled rebuke in the Israeli Knesset of Senator Barack Obama that talking to “terrorists and radicals'’ was no different than appeasing Hitler and the Nazis.
Of course, what Obama said he was willing to do was talk to actual sovereign states, Iran and Syria for example -- like even Bush realized he should do with North Korea. But Bush and McCain want to pretend Obama is going to hang out and chill with the "terrorizers" ... maybe have them over for some CostCo beef ribs with some of that lovely Kirkland Dry Rub. And NOBODY out-grills the master of propane John McCain with friend or foe.
Well, as James P. Rubin can tell you from first hand experience, McCain is lying:
But given his own position on Hamas, McCain is the last politician who should be attacking Obama. Two years ago, just after Hamas won the Palestinian parliamentary elections, I interviewed McCain for the British network Sky News's "World News Tonight" program. Here is the crucial part of our exchange:
I asked: "Do you think that American diplomats should be operating the way they have in the past, working with the Palestinian government if Hamas is now in charge?"
McCain answered: "They're the government; sooner or later we are going to have to deal with them, one way or another, and I understand why this administration and previous administrations had such antipathy towards Hamas because of their dedication to violence and the things that they not only espouse but practice, so . . . but it's a new reality in the Middle East. I think the lesson is people want security and a decent life and decent future, that they want democracy. Fatah was not giving them that."
And so we have the prototypical John McCain political statement...constant duplicity hidden under the mantle of occasional deprecating humor, dipped in barbecue sauce, oh the press does love it so.
UPDATE:
Via the Moderate Voice here is the video of Jamie Rubin's interview.
This provides the tone of the conversation to the text-quotes that by themselves McCain could try to explain away. A video like this should be pretty damaging to McCain per the Tim Russert rule (there's videotape) -- but can the press actually harm their sainted grill-master by using the truth against him?
(pic from here via Southern Beale...but really the responsibility of Keith Olbermann)

Zed? Really?
Surely the deepest hypocrisy it to condemn Hamas for supporting violence. Maybe I’m confused but wasn’t Shock and Awe violence? Wasn’t Fulluja violence? I checked my dictionary and it certainly seems so; oh I forgot, if they’ve got uniforms and Humvees and F16s and Apaches it isn’t violence, it’s justified combat.
Mmmm. Another waffle smothered in BBQ sauce. Gotta love that down home McSame cookin’.
What a hoot.
Absolute favorite quotes: “Old Man Yells at Cloud”
and
McCain is such a good actor, could have given Fred Thompson a run for his money. But the big question, will this get covered by MSM? I mean what he said… what he is saying now. The straight bs (well put)
So he separates from Bush re global warming to distance from Bush, but with this he endorses Bush. Is this a win/win for him with the Repubs or independents? Bush’s wingman as BO said. They say that Obama is not being passive on this like Kerry watching the swiftboating topple him. Good for him. But will the MSM cover this REALISTICALLY?
Oh and the 27% coattails. Great stuff. Thank you. Your style as dry as the Kirkland rub!
It’s a new sur-reality in the Middle East, thanks to U.S. neocons.

“oh and the 27% coattails. Great stuff…”
Yeah, and if this election is even a contest either in the electoral college or popular vote, we better turn this fuckin’ country OUT…into the streets, I say, and run the bastards all the way back ta Paraguay er wherever the fuck the bastards have got our money stashed.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, GIVE IT TA ME IF YA DON’T KNOW HOW TA USE IT!!
Just once I’d like to read something new when I get up!
My guess is Abu dhabi ….
UPDATE:
There is video of McCain being interviewed by Rubin that I’ve just put up that you can see with a refresh.
It’s pretty damning.
Yo Citizen Raven…’bout time ya got up fer Christ’s sake, it’s daylight in this here swamp and the geese are flyin’and I been workin all night so ya don’t get any fuckin’ new material unless ya make it up yerOWNself.
From you to the God of Responsible Journalism’s ear.
This is a pretty heavy drumbeat… Obama cozies up to the bad guys. Obama soft on terrorism. John Wayne B/W rules. And the drumbeat … and the same talking point. Repub SOP
What a test for the populace! They gotta get it by now. But I thought they got it in 2004.
One more time with the anti-girlie-man anti-intellectual crap, I bet.
Love that Joe Biden popped off!!! Can’t wait to hear KO on this one! The king of righteous indignation, and this insult NEEDS it!
Good morning, pups. Mr. Krugman is off today, so Bobo’s all by himself. He typed a thing called “Obama Admires Bush,” and trotted out the word “appeasement” like a good little lackey. He wonders if Barack Obama is naïve enough to think that an extremist ideological organization like Hezbollah can be mollified with a less corrupt patronage system and some electoral reform.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got blueberry muffins to share. It’s Friday, thank heavens. 249 days to go…
I’m getting soft, two sleepless nights in a Hampton Inn in “Middle Georgia” have caused me to sleep until 5:45am!
Blueberry… my fave… Thank you.
Enjoyed the link. Favorite line in your link (by Obama):
Yes, can we get beyond the cowboy, militia posturing of this president. Good shot.
How wonderful to hear a full analysis by BO but it goes beyond a three sentence sound byte. What’s a country to do?
How novel, though. A commander in chief who would communicate with generals and is willing to listen to them with intelligence. I just hope BO is not goaded into military inclinations to compensate for the paint job they are doing on him.
Good morning all. Some good news yesterday to help mask the stink of shit coming from the desperate goopers. The California Supreme Court chucked the unconstitutional ban on person with person marriage. The House of Representatives, including my two Congress Critters (Hodes and Shea-Porter) finally showed some balls and told Pelosi et al to shove it. And commander codpiece forced the ‘mercun press to actually print supportive things about obama in reacting to the belligerent and hateful tirade in the knesset (a place well known for belligerent, hateful, warmongering, pro-apartheid speeches).
I understand that he also gave olmert a blow job.
The fact that McBullshit was caught in a “misstatement” is not that unusual in fact I am waiting to some truthful words to come out of that pile of dung.
As *someone**somewhere* said (and given the number of blogs I hit in a day, it could be here; it could be there; it could be anywhere *g*), Biden can be better at the spot-on remark than almost anyone.
WRT a KOSC, almost wish he had kept his powder dry on the golf harangue and used it last night for the shrub sh!t that hit the fan yesterday morning. Much as I love the guy, sometimes the yelling feels like overkill. Caught a rerun of one of those National Press Club thingies this week featuring the granddaughter of Jacques Costeau (sp?). The woman was fabulous………spoke in this soft, quiet voice with content that just blew ya outta the water. Isn’t there a Churchill quote to the effect of walk softly and carry a big stick?
this would be the same GW Bush who cut a deal with Qaddafi, yes?

Citizen Raven:
“…two sleepless nights in a Hampton Inn in ‘Middle Geogia’…”
Middle fuckin’ Georgia??!!! What the fuck…haven’t ya spentcher time in hell, there Brother Raven? And what the Sam hell is “Middle Georgia”anyways, I thought the Catholics had already named it purgatory?
Why in the name of Knute Rockne wouldja spend two God Damned nights in those boondocks? I been through Middle Georgia jest once…and I didn’t need another dose of aversion therapy…I even gave up smokin’ fer God’s sake…Middle fuckin’ Georgia, my God, I hope ya got paid!!
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THIS WAR HAS JEST STARTED!!
Any comment from KO on the Deciders comments comparing Obama to Nazi appeasers? Another low point in America’s history. I refuse to sign up for cable for obvious reasons.
I’ve been hearing KO is getting strident lately. My tv blew… and I decided to take a break from MSM which is heavenly. Modulated radio voices. Rachel Maddow for one. Intelligent and not yelling. NPR guys. Ahhhhhh. And the stories go on for 12 or so minutes. And stories about what is happening in the world out there. Not politics.. actual news. Sometimes really heart-wrenching… but not gallopping and competitive!!
And then I am getting into the blogsites… though overflowed my tub yesterday while just checking FDL for a sec. NOT Ah well.
Anyway, Biden. Will be in the cabinet I hope. And Dodd. And Edwards. And Richardson. And JH here thinks Gov. Kathy Sebelius might be a good VP. Right? I did read she said that? Wow… am I jinxing it all talking about it now? Hard to inhale hope after 8 years of insanity.
What did Jacques granddaughter talk about?
Not such a good idea to take Senate Dems away ffrom what could be a slim majority once again. We need every Dem Senator. There are plenty of non Senators out there that need work and are well qualified to hold obama’s hand.
It was Teddy Roosevelt.
Didn’t think of that side of it. Good point. We need those spines in the Senate, don’t we?
… and now the Deciderator crawls on his knees to the Saudis.
Because, like, he would never talk to the funders of terrorism.
I was out cutting rosemary this morning and must have missed something last night too… What did Biden say?
Heh. Of course not… Seeing as he’s been blown off once and Darth Cheney has been blown off the second time when they’ve gone begging for lower oil prices maybe this third time will be the charm… [snort]
Unfortunately I didn’t get to hear him directly. I have just heard the feedback of those who relished his anger and disgust!
NPR’s political coverage is nothing more than government sponsored propaganda. Cokie Roberts, Mara Liasson, Juan Williams and countless interviews with neo-con spinmeisters is far from honest, hard hitting political coverage. The right wing was very successful in neutering NPR’s domestic political coverage.
Mornin’
Here’s Biden on Bush from MSNBC:
he also said a lot of other things too.
link for the full article
I personally loved the pile on against bush’s statements, man it was a pleasure to see everyone demeaning him, his policies and those that agree with him
that’s really the best way to deal with mccain, to simply demean the president’s performance and position and after punishing the president with the kind of critisizm you give to a total failure and fool, continue with;
“and mccain actually agrees with this policy and says he’s going to continue”
anyway, quick driveby
see all later
that’s great stuff from biden, he first embarrasses the president, then sites the case after case
obama has been doing ok to follow along that lead and then tie the lead right into mccain
I listen to WNYC and NPR together… NYC satellite.. a lot of BBC, then wonderful Brian Lehrer (who is WNYC) and Leonard Lopez… maybe he is NYC, too. Then I do get the Newshour at 11pm. I love Mark Shields and Woodruff. Disappointed in Cokie for sure. Anyway, all things considered and World and To the Point? Well… next to MSM it is a step up. I do miss Goodman and CSpan on cable.
I saw the clip of pelosi do the same thing, I have to say, she was fine but she was more biting when she first took office
and in the clip I saw it surely looked like her office is taking a toll on her
ok, going for swim, computer off
NPR….= garbage right wing radio. We stopped giving to npr awhile back and now give to Dem. Now. Cookie roberts is probably the worst though juan Williams is also a whore of the first order.
Thanks. Better than I imagined. Wow… a whole stream of sound bytes!!!
Leonard Lopate, not Lopez. Yes, he & Brian Lehrer are both great.
Thanks…. I knew I screwed up his last name. Love those voices and their intelligence and wit.
But you have to give Cokie credit.
Back in 2006 she astutely predicted that
Ned Lamont’s Senate run would “rip the Democratic party apart.”
Milledgeville, home of Georgia College and State University. It was the Apple Digital Campus Leadership Institute where we looked at ways to engage students in. . . WEB.2 OH!
Biden surprises every now and again. I keep wanting to support him when he does his run for pres every four years but then again he also says some really dumb things. He is better off in the Senate where saying dumb things is, apparently, the norm. He also likes trains a lot and can go on for hours (literally) about trains/train history in America.
In essence, this is what this whole dust-up was about. Bush/McCain want to frame a portion of the debate on who will hit their knees first when it relates (I refuse to say “comes”) to Israel. They want voters to go into the ballot booth and vote on who will walk across the Jordan River arm and arm with Olmert (if he still is PM).
While Bush assails former Sen. Borah from Idaho who was chairman of the Armed Services Committee for several years. Borah was a more Progressive Senator than any Republican in the Senate today. In fact, he was a friend of Robert La Follette from Wisconsin who was a true Progressive.
What people don’t understand and connect often in this slur from Bush is that the appeasement of Hitler allowed them to claim and control a valuable portion of Czechoslovakia. Why was it valuable? It was rich in coal and this was a much needed resource for the military expansion of Germany. It was the owners of these coal mines that benefited from the slave labor of the the Jewish prisoners who were later housed in less than desirable accommodations a few years later. It was Prescott Bush who also benefited from his business relationship with friends of Hitler. It was Prescott Bush that was aiding the enemy as late as mid-1942 until our government stopped him.
If it comes down to choosing between Sen. Borah and the corporate scum of Prescott Bush, I’ll choose Borah all day long. The media needs to connect the dots and expose the history of Bush’s family with Hitler and his business associates. While we are looking at family, let’s also divulge the cover-up that McCain’s father, Admiral Jack McCain pulled on the planned attacks on the USS Liberty in June, 1967. It was Jack McCain that was charged by President Johnson and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara to cover-up up the loss of life, total loss of the surveillance ship, and the injuries of many of our soldiers. Knowing John McCain’s temper, if a media person questions him on this portion of his dad’s life, he needs to be standing a few feet away. It could be a great time to have a youtube camera near by.
I miss KO, TDS and SC, too!!!
Great voices, homely as sin. Look at their pics on the wnyc.org website. Good thing there is radio, because if the only media were visual, we wouldn’t be able to take advantage of their intelligence, knowledge, and interviewing skills.
Who was she quoting?
NPR = Nice Polite Republicans at this point. My radio at work no longer picks up NPR. I get nothing but static. At first I blamed it on the hospital having installed an MRI machine down the hall, but now I realize I simply have a Democratic radio that doesn’t want me listening to NPR any more. (I do wish it would let me listen to the classical music, though…)
The Mc Cain’s best pal is up
Ventura’s gonna run for Senate, apparently.
Thanks. I did not realize that it was a family tradition to lie through your bloody teeth. It is in the genes I guess.
Right, it was the Admiral that pulled the cover-up.
I’ll bite. Who?
Has ANYONE in MSM connected the dots? Once again the truth is so intense… the presumptuousness of Bush throwing rocks is so awesome when he is from such a glass house.
eChan: Will check out the pix of these moderators. Sigh. You had to burst the fantasy, huh? They say God divides.
Marion: Democratic radio, huh? My radio doesn’t like AirAmerica with Coombs (sp?). I concur.
To represent which planet?
I report. You decide.
sorry, Olbermann, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert… fake… right on.. cathartic news.
Someone could be messing with you! Back when I was in the Navy I built a notch filter and installed it the Master Chief’s radio-Voila, no more Country Music Station! He thought his radio was broken, I had to keep going in and setting it to the Rock & Roll Station before he eventually figured it out. Unfortunately for me, once he did, his list of suspects became quite short.
Get a crystal set.
Herself, as far as I know.
Which means that she was spouting DC conventional wisdom.
The whole range, from A to B.
To quote Dorothy Parker.
Keel haul him!
If you want a spirited take on Bush’s Knesset comments check this out.

Another thing missing from the debate about the codpiece piece yesterday is that he used a very long word (by his standards). Appeasement is eleven letters long and three, count them, three syllables. Amazing.
Those things usually run an hour, iirc, and I missed her initial speech (pre-Q&A) and only caught part of the Q&A part. :-( What I heard pretty much ran the gambit of human survival issues. Do so wish I’d written down her name b/c had never heard of her before; she was just quite simply the most overwhelming speaker I’ve heard in donkey’s ears.
Rachel, Amy, Laura, Moyers……roll call of the voices of reason and intelligence……the saddness is, their numbers are so few. *sniff*
The “lefty” blogs have saved my sanity! Also Free Speech TV and Link TV…..they get my money these days - not NPR.
Marion @ 22 -
Ta…..brain stuck in reverse on that one…..doesn’t auger well for the remainder of the day.
WaPo has a front page (online) story about a Texas (imagine that) VA psychologist urging not diagnosing PTSD in returning vets. CREW had this story and the hot email on their site yesterday. The WaPo story (here) stated that the psychologist had been “counseled” and was “apologetic.” This woman should have been fired. I wonder if she’s also one of the APA’s torture supporters?
Did MSNBC just say HRC aides are saying that she will be dropping out? Or was that a statement designed to attract viewers?
so driving to the pool I hear charles ozgood or whatever his name is on news radio
he gets into this appeasment thing with the pesident and obama
really disappointing, he gets three clips of republicans like the president and mccain and he gets one clip of a democrat, not obama, oh no, he gets hillary
HILLARY!
and he cuts her short as well, she says “it’s an outrage” and BING, the end of the clip
NOTHING to demonstrate the president AND mccain have talks with heads of state
I once liked this ozgood charachter but it’s been obvious as late he has had his share of koolaid
Thank you. Talk about catharsis!!! This final paragraph blew me away especially, but what an intense and valid read. Wow. Calling out the reporters. We must recognize yes he has the reins… and his puppetmasters… but he is so ENABLED.
Waccamaw @61 …. will look out for her. How nice to be so moved by a speacker. Yes, God bless Moyers, Rachel, Amy Goodman and Laura F. here I assume. Have not tried goleft tv yet.
Wow… how sad about NPR. Remember when CNN was trusted?

GD’s name is Alexandra Cousteau.
*triple spit* – copied URL’s are totally FUBAR in preview; see teh google for more info.
I heard reachael maddow say the camp was incredibly dissilusioned, that winning her past primary by such an incredible margin netted her zero super delegates
the super delegates want her out so these blow outs can’t happen, since obama can’t lose unless there is a melt down
but if there is a meltdown she still has her shot so really, what exactly is she doing in there?
so here miserable super delegate gain is what demoralized the campaign
thank you. will check out if I can figure out where you are sending me. I’m a little slow with cyber speak.
Guess which VA Medical Center I use? Getting anything outta these people is damn near impossible! This the same place that had no Pain Management Clinic for over a year and a half. Wouldn’t need one of those at a VA Hospital, no Sir…
I can’t sleep on those fuckin’ beds. Have to sleep on the floor if I have to stay in a goddamn motel. Try real hard to avoid ‘em like the plague.
Links don’t seem to work in preview, but show up fine in the comment itself, at least for me.
Sounds like ya need to go to the Chief of Psychiatry’s office and, a la Arlo Guthrie, start jumpin’ up and down yellin’ “I wanna kill. I wanna kill. KILL. KILL.” That’ll get their attention.
Prolly get ya Baker Acted, though. No pain clinic. Man, that’s just plain piss poor management.
I posted this on Laura’s Grit post. Speaking of vets…
My friend sent me this info yesterday.
Schuster now repeating that HRC aides are saying “she can’t win”
new thread up top…
Will give it a try; maybe I put too much faith in our ol’ friend Preview. *g*
Apologies - I used a Google search to look her up. Try the link below…it’s a different one from the first that didn’t seem to work for me:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandra_Cousteau
Note: this one doesn’t work in preview either but I’m going with Marion’s suggestion @ 71 and trying it anyway.
Boo-yah! and *smooches*
I just saw the episode of The Simpsons called Marge vs. the Monorail.
The U.S. has a long record the reflects a profound inability particularly in the 20th-21st centuries in the area of diplomacy. Since time immemorial it’s been “my way or the highway.”
Somebody here at FDL or maybe C&L had a contest a while back to choose a good progressive net name for the esteemed senator from a parched state (if he were e-steamed, he’d be part of a New England clambake). You have inspired me to suggest yet another: “Grillmaster McSame, Master of Propane”. Has a nice lilt to you it, don’t you think?
In order to vent my anger regarding President Bush’s statement before the Knesset, I wrote at a military vet site, an item titled, “President Bush’s Letter of Resignation?” So, should you wish to check it out, go to our website of Chicanoveterans.org and click onto the Cactus Juice Commentaries.
In writing this item, I lay out the scenario as to how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in the House can formally challenge Bush for his “speciousness” and as to how it would apply to our Elected and Appointed Officials, and in order to deter these folks from crossing over the line for a lie or an outrageous lie. Thus, this item also includes how the future depredations of an egregious behavior by our Elected Officials would be meted out and the appropriate penance would be required. Of course, my asking for or suggesting anything representative of [edited by mod], would be inappropriate on my part, and yet, I could be convince otherwise.
