Folks tend to forget that there is almost no genetic evidence for these sorts of things in humans…and the evidence that does exist suggests that things like birth-order, economic level, social pressures, group size pressures, conflict, and a whole host of other things have a bigger influence than any sort of “genetic tendency” of moving away from a natal area. And it varies a lot in different cultures, too. In some societies it’s the females that move away, in others the females are matrilocal (staying put). In some both sexes may move out (which is one reason that verbalized incest taboos and knowledge of relationships may be critical). If only one sex moves out to find mates there no need for verbal incest taboos since it’s “institutionalized”.

BTW I just saw that Paul Clement the Solicitor General is resigning effective June 2, another rat leaving the ship.

I thought the rule from last September was that if you stayed with the Administration past 9/11/08 you were supposed to hack it out to the bitter end. Seems a lot of these guys are showing “disloyalty” all of a sudden. Problem is they are going into private biz that have huge contracts with the US Gov’t.

It is just a supremely stupid anti-scientific anti-factual argument. David Brooks also had out some psychobabble about religion and science recently. I get the impression that it was almost like someone gave them the assignment to write about consrvatism and science with expectably ludicrous results.

Saw that…suggests that Medved doesn’t realize that a) most of the immigrants that came from Britain were not doing so for “the adventure” but because they were compelled to under the threat of long-term imprisonment in work-houses. They were brought over as indentured servants to spend 4-8 years working off their papers on the same plantations in the South that enslaved Africans were later forced onto. I’d imagine that the same was true of many others in slightly different circumstances (press-ganged boy soldiers and sailors, landless serfs, refugees from the Hundred Years War). It seems Medved has been watching way too many Hollywood movies like “Pirates of the Caribbean” and his views of history have become as wacky as Ronald Reagan thinking he served in WW2.

Or it could be the LSD he took as a YIPPIE finally kickin’ in!
