Today we ask two vets and a pacifist what it means to Support The Troops in today’s United States. We talk with Matt Taibbi about what he calls our Great Derangement. All that, plus a PSA for a Handstand-A-Thon in Brooklyn (yes, a HANDSTAND-A-THON), the G.I. Bill of Rights, and One Immigrant’s Tale from the Movement Vision Lab.
But first, the premiere of “Got Docs?” - incredible works-in-progress that we want you to know about. Today: IRAQ PAPER SCISSORS. In the spirit of building a new community outside the military culture, Iraq veterans began a workshop in which they cut, beat and pulped their combat uniforms into paper, books and art.

Hi Laura
hey laura
I just saw your earlier interview with Matt Taibbi (a national treasure, no?) and I’m hooked. Not being a DishTV subscriber I’ll keep track of what you’re doing via your schedule (and probably lose sleep watching WAY past my bedtime). Thanks for your work — it’s very much appreciated, particularly down here deep in Red State America.
very cool

Hey Laura - love that header…

Laura,
Congratulations on your new show. As a LFS refugee I’ve suffered through a long dry spell not being able to see/hear you in a venue that lets you do what you do so well. RadioNation is nice but it’s a far cry from what you offered on your 2 nights X 3 hours live talk show. The world needs more of your insightful interviews.
What an amazing week of guests, topics and now documentaries you’ve shared. I’m so glad….
You’re back!
That’s really great how the vets figured this out–discovering a creative and therapeutic channel to express and process what their experience in Iraq means to them as well as providing a way to transition away from it. This is the beginning of a new tradition for soldiers becoming veterans.
Brilliant!
- Tom
Laura,
The docs idea is great. about to watch your latest features.
Sgt Matthis Cheroux has refused the order to deploy after 4 years and an honorable discharge. He was a photojournalist for the army. Would love to see and hear him interviewed.
For anyone interested in supporting him in this decision, his defense fund can be found at http://ivaw.org under legal fund.
One can write him at thankyoumatthis@ivaw.org.
