This message from the Courage Campaign landed in my inbox today:

Get this: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to headline a "yacht party" on Friday in San Francisco.

This is not a joke.

Josh Richman, an Oakland Tribune reporter, broke the unbelievable news last night. A mere 48 hours after announcing devastating state budget cuts — but failing to call for ending the appalling yacht tax loophole — the Governor will be the star attraction Friday at the St. Francis Yacht Club.

Just like us, Richman was bewildered:

"In the same week that he has rolled out a May budget revision based mainly on borrowing billions while enacting deep social-services cuts to close the state’s massive deficit?

Wow."

Wow is an understatement.

[snip]

It’s time to put the heat on the Governor and his cronies — the small minority of Republicans inside the state legislature that we are re-branding as the "Yacht Party".

Just yesterday….Governor Schwarzenegger announced his ridiculous budget-balancing scheme to gamble on California’s future with lottery funds while refusing to take leadership to close this embarrassing tax loophole for yacht and private jet owners.

Now, the Governor is following up his head-in-the-sand failure to take leadership on tax-free yachts by partying with the yachting elite that enjoy this embarrassment of riches.

Sometimes the posts just write themselves.

OK – let me get this straight.

This week the Gropinator released his new budget. The budget refuses to close the loophole that lets those poor oppressed yacht owners off the hook for CA sales tax.

Ahnnuld’s "solution"? Take a gamble on privatizing the State Lottery – which means giving up that stream of education funding for three years (or X years?)

Oh, and let’s also change the annual income review for undocumented folks seeking emergency health servives/Medi-cal to monthly: the perfect way to push undocumented folks requiring ongoing Medi-cal benefits out of the state health care system.

And this Friday the Gropinator is the headliner for a GOP fundraiser at the St Francis Yacht Club in SF. In the sort of tony neighborhood where the people cleaning multi-million dollar homes and parking luxury cars and staffing lavish buffets are often the same folks who currently have annual income reviews for emergency health care/Medi-cal: the same brown people Ahhnuld is fucking over so his uber-rich pals in Brentwood and Malibu and SF don’t have to pay yacht taxes.

Taxes are for little people, dontcha know?

This must have been planned by the same people who thought SF was a good place to bring the Torch.

The public parkland that surrounds the St. Francis Yacht Club is a great place to give the steroid-addled serial sexual assailant a rousing SF welcome.

Ahoy, Ahhnuld!

I expect a whole lotta folks in SF will be coming out Friday night to greet the Gropinator — and his uber-rich GOP pals — at Marina Boulevard and Mason Street, on the public parkland outside of the St. Francis Yacht Club.

The weather? Balmy: Highs in the lower 70’s to mid-90’s, with delightful 5-10 mph west winds springing up in the afternoon. Should be a perfect day for a late afternoon dip (but this being SF, a towel and light windbreaker would be handy after the swim).

The location? Beautiful….right along Marina Green….SF’s jewel of a park west of Fort Mason — a great place for a picnic on a sunny day and balmy evening.

The access? Easy to reach by local SF public transport…with (paid) parking at Fort Mason and (for a longer walk) easy free parking in the Presidio nearby.

The people? Divine. SF’s peaceful protest culture is faaabulous.

And dahhling — along with the swimsuit and picnic hamper and sunscreen and windbreaker — don’t forget to bring your finest protest signs. All the best protest people will be there.

RSVP optional.
