RUMSFELD: That’s what I was just going to say. This President’s pretty much a victim of success. We haven’t had an attack in five years. The perception of the threat is so low in this society that it’s not surprising that the behavior pattern reflects a low threat assessment. The same thing’s in Europe, there’s a low threat perception. The correction for that, I suppose, is an attack.

This is not the first time a conservative has shared this sentiment, nor will it be the last. Supposedly the invasion of Iraq, the government spying on its own citizens, the torture, the elimination of habeas corpus, etc. are all only a means to protect us from a terrorist attack. Rummy’s admission exposes the grotesque fact that all of these assaults on democracy are actually an end in themselves. In fact, another terrorist attack would be helpful in enabling them to get away with even more of this shit. The cold naked truth is that they are brutal authoritarians. Democracy and human rights are pesky inconveniences that a good massacre of civilians could help them eliminate.

I know, most curious that timing. I’m not a big believer in coincidence so the startling number involved in the weeks before and after that period of time are a statistical mind boggler.

-War game same day, same scenario
-Put options
-Large asbestos lawsuit over WTC building coming to a head
-WTC buildings just changed hands and new insurance policy pays double
-Missing Pentagon trillions
-Building security taken down for “maintenance” in weeks before
-Marvin Bush + Securicom + Dulles/American Airlines/WTC security contractor = ?
-Hijacker passport found in debris
-Saudi family members flow out of country while all flights grounded (never questioned)

I know there are many more that I missed buy in my mind the biggest one of all…A President that just stole an election in the minds of half the country has some serious goals that involve the need to rally the country. Something that will bury the thought in the minds of the electorate that he is an illegitimate leader. Something that will let him flex his warrior muscle in the countries mind and guarantee his party dominates all branches of government for years to come. Something that squashes the story he may be a draft dodging, cokehead, alcoholic, failed businessman with a history of personal weakness. What could have done all that and so much more?

Pure coincidence.

A couple of years ago, I noticed pro-military programs I had never seen Discovery air before. I remember it bothering me so much that I had to double check that it was The Discovery Channel, which sadly, it was.

There is so much damage that needs to be repaired, I’m not confident that fixing most of it is even possible.

What ever happened to Rummy digging into finding that missing 2.3 TRILLION…Yes Trillion at the DOD in the days before 9/11? The so called “War on Waste” was conveniently sidestepped in the days following the attack and the issue was never resolved. That was $8000 for every man, woman and child in the country at the time.
