Maxine Waters had to send a scathing letter to Democrats about voting with the Republicans on procedural motions which have the effect of tanking Democratic legislation -- in this case her amendment to cancel the debt of the world's poorest countries:

I am also concerned that the Chair of the Democratic Caucus was one of the Members of the Caucus who organized the "yea" votes, despite the fact that an aide to the Chair was quoted in The Hill as saying the Chair voted "yea" by mistake.

That would be one Rahm Emanuel.

Kagro:

Democrats unafraid to run as Democrats are winning at the voting booths. The DCCC, which Rahm Emanuel no longer runs, is on a hot streak, winning three heavily Republican seats in special elections in the past two months. Meanwhile, the Democratic Caucus, which Rahm Emanuel does run, can't get out of its own way for fear of becoming vulnerable to Republican attack ads that haven't worked in any of those special elections.

Hmm.

Shh! Don't stop me, I think I'm learning something...

Rahm told Democrats not to talk about the war in 2006 or they'd lose -- Ned Lamont proved that was wrong. He recruited Republicans to run as Democrats because they'd be reliable votes on trade and corporate-friendly legislation and bequeathed to us the perpetual headache of the Blue Dogs. Now in 2008 he's telling Democrats to run to the right on immigration, and voting with Republicans on motions to recommit.

To his credit, when Rahm was at the DCCC, he didn't pull a Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and prioritized getting Democrats elected above all else. He's not stupid, and anyone can see that Democrats are being elected right now in highly improbable districts for acting like Democrats.

Maybe it's time he came to terms with the fact that quantity has obviously become a function of quality?
