Does Any President Give Up Power Willingly?

I have been saying for quite some time that this president came to office in a coup, he was never elected he was appointed by the legacy of his father and reagan sitting in black robes

they came to office in a silent bloodless silent coup, they overthrew our form of government, they abused our armed forces as if their lives were toys to exploit so they could pocket the treasure of the entire middle east and the assets the american middle class has amassed for generations

our government no longer resembles the america that existed before she was overthrown in this coup, her constitution has fallen and the will of our electorate has failed their sacred oath to remove these despots from office

I cannot believe after taking our government in this coup, and then amassing more power then in the history of planet earth, that these masongenists and bigots will be surrendering this power to a black man, a clinton and a democrat

I cannot believe they are leaving office willingly

I believe there will be the “catastrophe” that gives the president power to declare “martial law” and I believe elections will be suspended

According to McCain’s personal financial disclosure, Cindy McCain’s investments include two mutual funds — American Funds Europacific Growth fund and American Funds Capital World Growth and Income fund — that are listed by the Sudan Divestment Task Force as targets for divestment.

“Those have been sold as of today,” said McCain spokesman Brian Rogers.

Both funds have holdings in Oil & Natural Gas Corp., an India-based company that does business in Sudan. The American Funds Capital World Growth & Income Fund also has holdings in Petrochina, a Chinese government-owned oil company with vast investments in Sudan.

I suppose she wouldn’t have sold those assets if she thought the campaign would not be happening

Well, my “issue” is that this kind of worst-case scenario projection is sorta like the fearmongering we decry when THEY do it. Could it happen, I guess but damn. . .

Speaking of Great TeeVee, Olbermann has a special comment. The topic is Kommander Guy giving up his putting on the greens. This is to show support for the troops.

It is a much better sacrifice than supporting a GI Bill for the troops. The troops who come home should also sacrifice. They do not need a taxpayer funded college education. A GI Bill for the soldiers is against neo-con idelogy.

I have to say, thinking about economics today for the show, I was particularly ready to hear John Edwards speak today. And I’m glad he’s endorsed Obama. He’s been on the fence long enough. But…

All that having been said, he’s speech infuriated me. To use the wall metaphor, over and over and over: “This election is about taking down walls”. And no thought to…. HOW MIGHT THIS SOUND IN IRAQ? How might this sound to the people looking at a wall being built on their ranch in Texas, in their town in Arizona? I dunno. I just thought he’d be careful to be more conscious. if you’re going to talk about how dreadful the walls are that divide us, you’ve got to at least acknowledge that the US is busy building walls to divide…. Would a sentence like “Walls — like the walls we’re building on the border or in Baghdad — are not the answer to our political and economic problems…”
And I have one more beef….
“No matter who your parents are and no matter the color of your skin…”
What about no matter what your gender is….

And on the question of presidential powers — look at the segment –it’s not the Bushes we’re talking about — it’s the next occupant of the White House — are we confident that person will gladly give up the powers accrued to the executive under this administration? The panel were pretty hopeful. I’m skeptical. Pledging to “shut down Guantanamo ” isn’t enough. I think we’re going to have to push. Anthony Romero said this election is about putting the presidency “back in the box” . Anyone know anyone now on the trail who wants to be boxed in? Jes concerned, that’s all.

whoever takes office can’t simply rebuke the power, the power has to be removed

the president believes he can sign this bill and make the following statement;

” I agree with this law except when I think it is necessary to torture, then I am not bound by this law”

and so far those signing statements stand

this power cannot be relinquished willingly by a president, they must be removed by the legislator with punitive action as well

otherwise relinquishing power does nothing but put that power in the bank to be used whenever they want

Laura, you are so right! Thanks for pushing this question. And this is one reason why I decided not to support Hillary Clinton. Of the field of early candidates, she was not the foremost in defending the Constitution.

That was my initial thought about her message too, bob. Plus I had a very unsettling feeling that she would be one who wouldn’t really turn her back on all those powers, which made me wonder in an anxious manner about her VP choice, and what THAT would be like.

And that issue is a HUGE reason why I would not like to see her as VP. Bottom line, I just never felt I could trust her, with her lobbyist connections which she defended at Yearly Kos!

She STILL makes me nervous.

It’s not ONLY the president, but he has somehow managed to get a whole slew of faithful to do his bidding. But then again W was only a front many for the Junta here. He’s way to dumb to pull off what these folks did. They took America, commandeered the military to fight for them, got congress to fork over half a trillion to corporations FOR the war, lawyers to trash the constitution and the media to sell fear and keep america distracted while they got a screwed.

I don’t think the next crew will have such a broad and focused agenda and will fail unless they push very radical changes through and the corporations will push back hard and play dirty. Head will roll, blood will flow.
