Day two here at Grit TV HQ. Thanks again to everyone who stopped by to say hello last night. We were blown away by the reception that we received. The studio is buzzing today as we have another great show lined up:
- Walter Mosley, Author, The Tempest Tales
- Hendrik Hertzberg, Senior Editor/Staff Writer, The New Yorker
- Chris Rabb, Blogger, Afro-Netizen
- And a very special interview with Arianna Huffington and Don Hazen from Alternet
We will be posting these segments later in the day, but in the meantime, we wanted to share with you a great (makes you laugh, makes you cry) video from our friends at Billionaires For Bush:

Good morning and congratulations!
Hey we loved the broadcast and animation from yesterday! Looking forward to what you’ve got for us today.
Yes
LOVED IT
I have some bad news for that Billionaires For Bush crowd, yes, we can and how’s you portfolio looking lately, HMMMM?
@ssholes.
Morning, Laura. Yesterday was a real treat and the video above is great. Thanks
Jus cogens!
Great!!! So glad you guys are digging this. We are just getting the kinks worked out (so please bear with us) but we are having a lot of fun in this learning process. We think that it is high time that this community has a TV show and we are just tickled that you all agree…
laura and company- something i was thinking about last night…. what can we do to make grit tv at least partially accessible for folks on dial up and without cable tv?
is there a lowbandwith audio only version? or perhaps we could think about liveblogging the next one? although it would mean starting the videos at approximately the same time and i don’t have any good ideas on how to organize that.
hoping someone here has some ideas….
Audio Podcast. It simplifies the update and download process so that even lowly dialup users can get their fix. Video podcast is fine, too, but requires longer downloads.
FDL has at least one blind reader so embeded text for accessibilty reasons would be good as well.
good morning, Laura — well, this gives me ‘homework’ to do because I can’t watch/listen to this at work. Boo Hiss.
Congratulations!
Ummm…what is the “link” to Grit-TV???
Billionaires for Bush are “snarkists”…
Good point and one that we have considered. Once our website is up there will be a variety of options to view (or listen to) the show. Podcasts (audio and video) and a number of different web distribution alternatives including a a full time linear format channel with live chat features. It’s coming, it’s coming. But we love the feedback so keep sending it our way…
hey now laura – i’ll catch you later today again a hearty welcome to the lake – trust me you’ll like it here ;o}
What a terrific new development for the Lake is GritTV! And the video is funny in a bruisin’ sorta way… The synergy of new ripples leading to new places like Billionaires for Bush feeds the lake and all of us in good ways.
Thanks, Laura, and all the development team.
Howdy,
Our site is not yet up but it will be soon (next week). The url will be GritTV.org
that’s great news. it’s one thing if the video is a one off, but if it’s going to be a regular feature, then i’m glad you-all are thinking about how to prevent it from being an exclusive thing that only readers with broadband connections have access too.
and that means i don’t have to worry about live blogging. phew!
pardon my newbieness, but could you explain embedded text. We would like to do everything that we can to make our show universally accessible..
Thanks!!! It’s exciting!
A couple of years ago I wrote a “complaint” letter to Billionaires for Bush, following an event that included a black male from their organization.
I pointed out that, at the time, the only black billionaire in the U.S. was named “Oprah.”
Don’t know if that’s still the case…
My bad, I left my sense of humor in my other pants this morning.
Oprah is the richest African-American I believe but Robert Johnson, founder of BET and majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats is also a billionaire.
Embedded text is a means of providing a typed version of what is said in a video. I know that Flash & Shockwave can be made to do so.
A good way to ensure universal accessibility is to make your site “Section 508″ compliant. That’s the US government standard for all Fed websites to ensure universal access. There are lots of resources on the web explaining this. Good luck, and thanks!
Thank you Laura, Mechanical Bull and crew.
Seems to me you’re pushing all the right buttons and pulling the levers just right.
This must be the NEW, new media. Yippeee!
Heh, that’s a good vid!
In essence it is a transcript that is included in the movie. QuickTime example. I * think * Flash has the feature. If not there are other accessibility techniques.
love you!
MB – since you ask, i know of one regular reader who is deaf.
Thanks Jim,
I look into this and see what we can do in the next few weeks…
I think this oughta be fun
I think I have a few contructive legacy bits for jonah
Eternal damnation?
If you have a chance today…go listen to Democracy Now’s interview with Adrienne Kinne…Holy smokes…talks all about military intelligence intercepting calls of Americans…..about knowledge that the pre-war information was not reliable…all sorts of goodies.
wow
that was a painful video!
or as the punchline goes…
a good start
amazing he would even think to post his email address as if he’s gonna get more good then bad sent to him
Here is Flash text accessibility.
hey, you think the republicans might be catching on?
this from crooks and liars;
no shit?
what do you think caused that tom?…any ideas?
The Liberal media?
To all those good folk who create liberal videos.
Damn it’s frustrating for old ears to try to distinguish between foreground and background audio. Not everyone has young ears.
Try listening to your idpod under water, it’ll give you a little perspective.
Garble aint persuasive, clean it up. Thank you.
Couldn’t have put it more succinctly myself.
@ssholes
How cool is that?
Well, I never can get FDL time straight. I thought 5:00PM (8:00 EDT) meant 5:00PM. Little did I know it meant 7:00PM. (Foolish me!) So I got to the party late, as usual, but I loved it all the same. In fact, so much so that I sent a link to my niece to watch. Good venture. Good luck with it!
Yeah, I think he’s achieved that since the time I wrote the letter.
It would be interesting to run the statistics – if 15% of the U.S. population is African American, what is their representation among billionaires? It might even be proportional… that is, if there are only 16 U.S. billionaires.
Wow…check this out…
…..”Late last year, Senator Joseph Biden stated unequivocally that “the president has no authority to unilaterally attack Iran, and if he does, as Foreign Relations Committee chairman, I will move to impeach” the president.
We agree with Senator Biden, and it is our view that if you do not obtain the constitutionally required congressional authorization before launching preemptive military strikes against Iran or any other nation, impeachment proceedings should be pursued. Because of these concerns, we request the opportunity to meet with you as soon as possible to discuss these matters. As we have recently marked the fifth year since the invasion of Iraq, and the grim milestone of 4,000 U.S. deaths in Iraq, your Administration should not unilaterally involve this country in yet another military conflict that promises high costs to American blood and treasure.
Sincerely,
The Honorable John Conyers
Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee “

Is it just me or did everybody lose the new post alert??? Help? Is this thing on?
Lost it a couple of days ago. Dunno what happened.
Now the big question is, how long after Iran retaliates against Bush’s unilateral strike will the Dems blink.
I don’t know if they would have the stones to blame mass US troop casualties from an Iranian response on Bush. I think they would blame Iran for having the audacity to retaliate and leap into war headfirst.
We are all involved in a media revolution. The “shout shows,” as Donahue so aptly called them yesterday, do not help people think about issues, they dictate what to think. The shouters are believers. We are thinkers. Critical thinkers. Keep doin’ what yer doin’. We’re with you.
I personally believe we are in battered wife syndrome and there is nothing that will bring impeachment
even when he suspends elections, he ain’t getting impeached
A commenter in Logan’s post over at C&L links to an old Bill Moyers’ program on America’s secret govt. Will GritTV be interviewing Moyers? Maybe compiling an archive of his reporting?
Most excellent interview.
We’ll be too busy watching the Exxon/Mobil Weekly Al Qaeda Show Trials.
Maybe we’ll be able to vote on the verdict via text message.

If anybody has seen the O’Reilly video from his “Inside Edition” days this little tune has come out.
Warning: neither work nor family friendly
F*** It
Once our site is up (next week) we will have much more information about upcoming shows/guests/topics and we definitely will have a place where you can send us your story ideas. We want this to be as much of a grass/net/roots collaboration as possible. As our show/website develops over the next few weeks/months we will be adding features to enhance the collaborative aspect. We want this to be a team effort so join right in…
I loved seeing his head explode. I’ll bet his rightwing, faith-based, evans are sorta wondering about him since the video came out.
Why suspend elections when he is on track to get off scott-free?
Don’t get me wrong, I want war crimes trials with Bush headlining the show. And this does give me hope. But neither Obama or Clinton are gonna push to punish the people who committed these crimes against our country…
There will be “forgiveness.”
They forgave Shooter, if I recall.
I find this a downer and counter-effective. Obama should drown out the others at the end. As it is, it leaves one with the impression that he will be silenced in the end.
I’d heard about his ranting at the crew but this should give people a good idea of what this asshole is really like. I could carve a better man from a banana.

Rove_refuses_call_to testify
That’s kinda the point, I think.
He will be drowned out, if they get their way.
like that is a surprise?
and the same will continue untill they jail meyers
my opinion is as follows;
they came to office in a silent bloodless coup and they are not leaving office willingly
that is why
Hi SD, way cool tune. It’s got a great beat and I can dance to it!!
yep.
it’s gone missing.
Most likely they will take the money and run.
Did ya stick around to listen to the STFU tune that follows it?
I sent that on to several friends. He’s toxic, that one.
It certainly caught my eye, I’m going back in…
global-warming-is-teh-phony-update upstairs
This has been long planned and is going to get ugly.
excellent show yesterday, Laura.
looking forward to more…
Hey,
I really liked the show yesterday. Great to see Phil Donahue again, with Jane and Katherine (Katrina?). I just wish this was what we’d see daily on the MSM instead of purile punditocracy.
Cheers,
Bob in HI
