When over 80% of voters see the country as going in the wrong direction, how is it that almost half would still vote for a Republican who has pledged to continue the Bush agenda?
Arianna Huffington, founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post and author of Right Is Wrong: How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America, Shredded the Constitution, and Made Us All Less Safe joins Laura Flanders and Don Hazen, Executive Editor of AlterNet.org for a rousing discussion, examining how McCain has been given a free pass by the media, how Democrats have allowed the lunatic fringe to hijack democracy.

So!
Laura!
I’ll tell you how;
by gaming the polls as a set up to fix the election
I am sorry, there is more hatred for the republican party then in the history of this country, this president enjoys the most vile hatred you can imagine
the democrats have mobilized more voters then hin history, the republicans are getting fewer
there is no way mccain can poll equal, no way
Why isn’t the US press going after McCain the way they attack Obama or Clinton?
Look at who owns our media. Former RNC Chair Roger Ailes was hired by archconservative Jack Welch to run NBC’s newsroom well before Rupert Murdoch hired him to set up FOX News. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Robert Parry was warning liberals that they had to start buying or starting TV networks, but they blew him off.
Truth to the American people! Thanks for this, Laura. Let’s hope GRITtv is successful in pushing back against the lamestream press.
The fact that half of the 80% of the people that say the U.S. is moving in the wrong direction would yet vote for McCain suggests that Americans have an unconscious collective death wish. The Rapture has captured the imagination of a large swath of the U.S..
No. What has been allowed is that we’ve allowed a rabid, malignantly brilliant, Australian right winger to define the dialog and the content.
Yes, Woopert, you.
Bill Kristol should be in Gitmo…! LOL!
Thanks for GRITtv!
The story on the Myanmar TV coverage of its own disaster was pretty spooky, with one station not covering the the disaster at all but instead showing some signing ceremony with balloon floats and happy happy people. The reigning general does not like to hear bad news of any kind.
Honestly, how are we different?
It’s certainly refreshing to see a quiet, intelligent discourse on the real issues…! ;-)
I agree completely.
But if the Democratic factions don’t watch out, they’re going to tear the party apart before Nov. and McInsane won’t have to steal it.
Robert Parry was among those BEGGING people like Steven Spielberg (if I’m not mistaken, correct me if I’m wrong) to actually finance a liberal media, to no avail.
Why doesn’t the MSM go after st john the way they do Obama and Clinton? Very easy answer. The MSM is st john’s real base. Not the repiglican party, not the neo cons, but the MSM-the reporters who have been stroked for years and just love st john, their editors-like timmah-who have a really really bad case of man love(like tweety) for st john, the owners of the MSM-remember that st john surrounds himself with lobbyists. Any story on St John will last-at the most-only 1 news cycle, no organization will pick it up and run with it, why? because they have all been stroked and smoked, the reporters-like the pundocracy-want to be loved by those they report on, they all want to get the killer job that gives them million$. IOW, the entire MSM has corrupted itself, they all favor st john-liberal bias my ass!!-and even in a hit piece they will praise st john to the heavens. How on earth can any dem stand up to the totally biased reporting in favor of st john, while at the same time all the really lazy reporters follow faux news around with their collective nose up the ass of all the faux news people, breathlessly reporting any and all bs stories about the dems-flag pins, patriotism, rev wright, laugh, bitch, muslim, etc, etc, etc. We will be drowned in a sea of mud from the repig machine, while st john basks in the sunshine of reporters love.
“Pandering pawn of the right” — great name from Ariana for McCain at the very end of the interview.
My personal opinion is that as the campaign moves to the general election, these “sell-outs” by McCain will make a great series of short advertisements that Obama can run. They will get the point out despite what the media does to combat it. McCain’s support will dry up considerably and begin to reflect the polling numbers seen for the public’s opinion on how badly the country has been led in the last seven years.
At least a guy can hope…

Me and LS have been thinking that the polling companies are in the tank with the media too? When 80% think the country is going in the wrong direction and John McCain wants to keep the war going where do you get the other 30% needed to get to almost half the voters?
Answer out you your ass!
Power chords!
Bobby identified this rare chord the other day. It’s a favorite of the dischordant set.
I think that the polls are accurate…The vast majority of voters have yet to discover who the HELL McCain is….We’re WAY out there in terms of time to election…polls are accurate enough- just meaningless when no one is paying attention.
OT-Have you seen that Conyers is threatening Impeachment if Bush attacks Iran?
I hate to tell Conyers, but if he waits that long it will be too late. ALL bets will be off, and the silly matter of who the Dem nominee will be will seem like so much dust in the wind.

Huffpo
It’s too late anyway you slice it.
Nancy must be breathing easier. Her legacy is nearly secure.
Correction:
If I heard Laura right, she asked about McCain’s vote for Bush in 2004.
The Huffpo article says this is about McCain’s vote for president in the earlier election, in 2000.
It’s a stunning story, just want us to have our facts straight.
Pelosi, Reagan or Sinatra?
Drew, Grace?
Betty Joe Bialaski?
The Philosopher King and the Elites justify lying to the masses to get what they want. Then they justify their mistakes.
This is precisely what our system of checks and balances in government was meant to stop.
Rummy and the rest though are sooo far from being philosophers! Tell me how does an economic elite which hates the educated elite think they KNOW more about everything.
It is not like they have practical experience in the world making money.
Unless you count their experience getting fat nobid government contracts?
Warren Buffet and Georgev Soros made their billions in the real world without government contracts AND THEY ARE DEMOCRATS!
Laura:
You should interview Prof. George Lakoff
Why do conservatives appear to be so much better at framing?
Perhaps they are afraid that without another Republic they would be forced into gay marriages.
saying that all of our best students are becoming anti-business because of the Vietnam War,
Looking at the decline in living standards since the 70’s I think all our best students are still anti business.
Just how big is the repressed in denial gay vote in the GOP?
Hey CT how did the repairs go??
That’s difficult to say, but I don’t recall WH visits by anyone like Jeff Gannon during previous administrations.
And now, as the New York Times Magazine quoted Paul Weyrich, who started the Heritage Foundation, they have 1,500 conservative radio talk show hosts. They have a huge, very good operation, and they understand their own moral system. They understand what unites conservatives, and they understand how to talk about it, and they are constantly updating their research on how best to express their ideas
And their MSM stocks are tanking because after seven years of Bush failure at everything nobody is believing the lies. Whether its Generals lying on tv on the war in Iraq or Ben Stein writing cheery news about the economy nobody believes it.
True historians writing about the Bush White House will wonder who was so high up in the WH that the Secret Service would delete their entry logs to protect them.
Normally Bush just asks people to resign like he asked Gonzo or they retire like Harriet Miers, even Rummy had to leave remember now then just who is to big for Bush to ask to retire or resign? My guesses are Darth, Bush and Laura?
I’d be throwing Condi in on that pile.
Ah, come on. There’s exactly one person high enough in the White House to merit that sort of protection from the Secret Service.
So, if it was Unka Karl who needed protecting it was at the behest of Preznit Allhat Nocattle.

i still think gannon was an informant/trap. and they put him in the public eye to ’warn’ the people who ’knew’ him.
his customers.
the thing i wonder is, who hooked him up with rove and company. he was ex-military.
ymmv
The gem of the interview.
“It is my distinct honour to introduce to you, the presidential nominee of the Republic Party, Senator John S McCain, PPR.”
Fuckin’ A ditty bag
It’s not that all of our best students are anti-business, it’s that all of our worst students are pro-business.
I DID say 2004 — but I caught myself!!! 2000, 2000, 2000!!
