My major hope is for Thorium, which is being explored by the Norweigans and Indians. There seems to be a lot of logic behind it, but it is only one of many alternative to coal.

Great. That’s why “Somebody better figure it out, then.”
We used to do things in this country. New things, clever things, startlingly inventive things.
We now do what we’ve done (coal), probably because we know how. We new to teach ourselves some new things.

Alternatives to coal, that’s cool. Where are the research dollars, and the scientific “can-do” initiative in a Nation where science is increasingly marginalized?
That is also something somebody better figure out.

Bluntly, coal is what we’ve got more of than the rest of the world has. But, we’ve got lots of uranium, thorium, productive land for biomass, oil shale, and methane hydrdate. We ain’t hurting for alternatives to coal.

There is no such thing as clean coal!!! Coal is carbon, and extracting energy from coal requires oxidizing it to Carbon dioxide. That all you can do. There may be way to ultimately take CO2 out of our air, but nobody has been able to do that profitably so far.

Oh dear Teddy - if ever there were a perfect 10 post on Mothers Day in this historic or any election year - you’ve nailed this unworthy candidate for the White House exquisitely. Bravo!

mrbrat and I took to our bed with dinner trays before sunset the minute one of our son’s in law and two daughters headed back to their homes following their sweet weekend visit with us this holiday weekend.

This may or may not be news here at latenite but I just heard a “breaking news” item on CNN reporting Obama has caught up with Hill’s super-delegate count this evening. Gosh, isn’t it now obvious she needs to stand down and move on?
