Death is big business. Numerous books have been written on the subject.

The number of deceased military personnel being cremated upon return is a very small percentage of the total number being returned, which is in itself criminal. War is not about glory, it’s about killing.

Thousands of people die here every day. That involves hospitals, equipment, facilities, the whole nine yards.

We all die. It is part of the wheel of life.

Watch carefully. There’s no doubt some kinky something happening. I think it’s a pretty standard pact they have to sign before getting the blessing of the party.

A definite “ewwwww.”

Hey, PW, I have the dubious distinction of living the same neighborhood as Governor Veto (Tim Pawlenty, who’s being touted as a possible McPain running mate) AND the aforementioned Michael Brodkorb. Believe me when I say I lock my car doors whilst driving in the ‘hood.

I’m satisfied with their description of their services and facilities. Barring hard evidence that remains are mixed it’s a non-issue for me.

There’s no way for me to tell if the cremains of my tigers are really of that particular animal. They’re each in an urn with their name on it and I’m happy with that. I can only speak for myself.

Cremation is so yesterday. In today’s St. Paul paper, we learned about the following emerging alternative:

Since they first walked the planet, humans have either buried or burned their dead. Now, a new option is generating interest — dissolving bodies in lye and flushing the brownish, syrupy residue down the drain.

Because of its environmental advantages, some in the funeral industry say it could someday rival burial and cremation.

The process is called alkaline hydrolysis and was developed in this country 16 years ago to get rid of animal carcasses. It uses lye, 302-degree heat and 60 pounds of pressure per square inch to destroy bodies in big stainless-steel cylinders that are similar to pressure cookers.
