Now we know why McCain almost flunked out of Annapolis. How can a third-generation Navy man not know that this is a NAVAL TERM that means an individual has lost sight of their navigational standards. It has nothing to do with AGE…Navy men and those that used this slogan were ALWAYS referring to people who had become sidetracked away from their presumed course. Young captains could “lose their bearings” as well as old ones.
Sad that McCain doesn’t even know Naval Terminology!

True story:
I was an intern at the German desk of the State Department back in the early 80s. One day, an Austrian union leader came to DC, and met with a bunch of State Dept folks for a chat about what was going on in European politics at the time. It was the start of the West German election season, and speculation was rampant about various candidates. The union leader went down the list of the different folks, offering his take on their electability and the policies each was pushing.
He was rolling along just fine until he came to this one particular candidate. He paused, trying to come up with just the right way to describe him. Then he said, “He’s like the U-Boat commander who leaves port without the torpedoes.”
Listening to John McCain brings that story back to mind these days.

McCain was in the Aviation (Airedale) part of the Navy, also known semi-derisively, OK, completely derisively, as the “Brown Shoe” Navy. It was that hop I caught from McDill to Corpus with a bunch of you folks! It was some sort of old twin prop plane with Mickey Mouse painted on the side of the fuselage. It’s job was to train Navigators and they had just completed their final practical tests. The plane was at the end of the runway and the LT who was the Instructor slaps on a set of Mickey Mouse ears, the real kind and says, “We’re a very Mickey Mouse outfit!” With that, all of the other people onboard don Mickey Mouse visors and the plane roll down the runways & lifts off before I can disembark!

What’s the link between Rothschild and McCain?

The phrase actually doesn’t refer to something like “ball-bearings”…in naval parlance it relates to the sightings “bearings” on takes on landmarks or stars. If you lose ones “bearings” one strays from the course and may run aground or strike a reef.
One can’t have “really good ones”. And it isn’t l;ike “losing ones marbles”…although McCain may have lost a few of those, too.
