Samuel Johnson

Yesterday morning, Howie Kurtz, in his "Media Notes" column, which is dedicated to excusing the media from all manner of attacks, except those of Michelle Malkin or the creationist cranks of Powerline [two blogs he's particularly infatuated with] looked at the resilience of Barack Obama and how things like flag pins and Jeremiah Wright were not as effective as the beltway thought.

Somewhat gracious of Kurtz, which happens occasionally.

Sadly, he went on to write this paragraph:

Even more interesting, after many (mostly unfounded) attacks on his patriotism, Obama talked about "the America I love" and "American values" and "the promise of America" and "the flag draped over my father’s coffin." He was sending a star-spangled message.

"Mostly unfounded attacks on his patriotism"?

Excuse me? That seems to imply some attack on Obama’s patriotism was credible.

I’m not media critic, I’m obviously just some guy named Vinnie in an efficiency apartment, but it seems to me, when you write a sentence like that you are either pretty sloppy or rather reprehensible.

Tell us Howie, just what "unpatriotic" offense has Barack Obama committed?

…besides not wanting to bomb third world countries, which the beltway apparently considers the height of patriotism.
