I get so mad. I am white Cuban and am not frequently harrassed because I don’t “look” Cuban, but I have been stopped some times while speaking to a friend/relative in Spanish and told to speak in English. I usually try to explain to these people that there is this thing called the 1st Ammendment to the Constitution and that it protects my free speech rights (not just in English, but in any language I choose), but recently I just ignore them. [BTW I live in Boston; you’d think a “liberal” city would be ok with us “people of color”, but they are not.

I know many immigrants that are here illegally (anyone that denies having these immigrants around them is either lying or has blinders) and I do not know any that doesn’t work 10-14 hour days 6-7 days a week, most of them then are on wait lists to lear English (and they attend after the long days if they can find the classes), and all I have ever met have taxes taken out by their employer (even when it’s obvious the employers know their SSN is fake). Yet we hear all the fear, yes they are destroying our Country, depleting resources, taking jobs.

It is sad, it enrages me, but we will see a lot of it this fall. McDraft will denounce all immigrants, we will have local measures to address (i.e. attack) the immigration problem (e.g. Rhode Island R governor signing executive order for State Troopers to figure out if anyone they come in contact with is undoccumented and turn them over to INS), and we will hear all the commercials about the – gulp – black guy that wants to be president and will open the floodgates of illegal immigrants. That’s right, as long as they are attacking Obama with racist bigotry they might as well try a 2 for 1. After all scare tactics were insufficient in 2006 so prudence calls for double dose this fall.

As Hermann Goering said at the Nuremberg Trials: “… the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists (in this case the aliens) for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country.”

BUT now city counsel members are starting to sing a different tune now that whole sections of the city are empty, apartment buildings are empty, lots of help wanted signs on those places that usually hire undocumented workers.

I was told by a former news anchor that her adopted daughter from Honduras was stopped by Joe’s posse for driving while brown…. she is an ASU honor student.
