Indiana (95% reporting):
51% Clinton
49% Obama
North Carolina (99% reporting):
42% Clinton
56% Obama
Sure seemed strange for a victory speech to me. But that’s just me.
Still watching Gary results narrow the Indiana vote. It’s down to a 17,000-vote difference right now. If Hillary does win, it won’t have been by much.

Wonder what Kiddo is thinking tonight.
yo
Tireless, David!
Good Golly how many is this in a row David?
Oh!
Where is kiddo?
david, i hope you are gonna sleep late in the morning – you’ve certainly earned it
Hi again David.
it was WAY strange. Bill was crying, Chelsea looked sorrowful at her mom. SHE looked pretty red eyed and the whole thing was surreal. Lacked any sparks, fire, and the crowd seemed subdued.
So, what really happened to Kiddo here? Am I asking what everyone knows?
Hi Kiddo and Lahoma.
The Mayor of Gary thinks that Obama could win it there. Lake County allowed their polls to stay open longer since they are on Central Time. He claims that some precincts are going almost 95-97% for Obama.
Lake County Has Tradition of Upsets
it really was two speeches.
Dave – you sure picked a good night to do election duty! and you’re doing us proud!
I am clueless.
email me at mary at dahothouse dot com and I will let you in on the skinny.
*standing on chair clapping for david’s hard work tonight keeping us up to date with the primaries*
Kiddo and Jane got into it, and Kiddo was disrespecting Jane. He showed his temper and conviction.
SUSA had Obama winning NC by 5% and Clinton winning IN by 12%. They seem to be the outlier. Appears Zogby might’ve been the most accurate in both states.
SUSA has been way off a bunch of times now. These national polling companies are largely crapshoots. Many around the blogosphere should remember this as we head into the Fall, and not get too up or down emotionally as polls come out, even from “the most accurate” polling companies.
All you can do is bust yer butt for yer candidate and wait for returns.
from MSNBC, followup to the nuns being turned away:
I see a Petition for Re-argument to the Supremes…they didn’t see any numbers? We’ll show you numbers!
Betsy,
All the stuff going on, and wouldn’t we like to know.
HRC scorched earth? Fucking duh?
Meanwhile Bonzo Bolton and Manly Mike Ledeen want to bomb Iran NOW! Ledeen wants to triple down and toss in Syria too.
The spirit of Der Fuhrer lives on in these two asschappers.

Hurray David!!!!
the end of the ko and tweety show – they looked tired those last few minutes
This isn’t about the Clown Car, huh ? *g*
I think that there was a flare-up with some of the Front Page posters over his style and remarks about Hillary…something similar seems to pop up regularly. Apparently he and Lahoma felt unwelcome and said they were taking a time out until the General election.
I believe there were complaints (many complaints) about some posting behaviour. Incessant oneliners, high-jacked threads, thin-skinnedness etc. I think he chose not to make changes that were requested, and was then asked to pack up and leave. Or was banned. Or something.
With 56% of Lake County, the margin is 17,000 or 1.4% now. Clinton might hang on, but by less than 1% DEFINITELY.
Meanwhile Drudge title has Obama as The Nominee. Clinton has cancelled her schedule for tomorrow….
How so?
Not everything is about the clown car. Really.
Hey David- we all still have our eyes on Indiana.
And, thanks again for your coverage of the primary. Really, the threads in response to your posts on the primary (and your posts themselves) have been some of the greatest at FDL in recent memory.
Kudos to you, and all threaders.
Woof Woof Get to digging for David the Iron man!!
Did she or didn’t she sing the farewell song??
if ya watch the speech (i’m sure there will be utubes of it), she was going back and forth – between halfway concession (maybe pre-concession) and asking for money and saying she was looking forward to kentucky, west va.
was strange for sure
Aha, nahant! Your Submit beat me by 4 seconds! At least we didn’t end up with a double Submit.
I Dugg yours, of course.
Interesting from kos:
The Republicans also had primaries in Indiana, and the Lake County Republican Party chairman says there’s no shady dealings going on in the county.
“Lake County Republican Chairman John Curley stood by his Democratic counterpart Rudy Clay as the nation waited for vote totals from Lake County. “There’s no hanky panky going on,” Curley said after members of the national media wondered why Lake County’s votes were taking so much longer to count than the rest of the state. “We have more than 11,000 absentee ballots, far more than we’ve ever had before,” Curley said, insisting it simply takes time to get through that many tallies.
The two party chairmen planned to meet at the government center at about 11 p.m., and Curley promised the vote totals would soon be released.”
Any efforts to mess with the vote in the county would need the assistance of the county’s GOP, which seems unlikely. Especially since it was in the GOP’s interest to keep Clinton in the race.
Goodnight. Thanks for the hard work, Dave.

My comment on this from a couple of threads back:
It was a very strange speech, half concession, half we will fight on. I think events have confused her and she needs a night’s sleep and maybe a day or two to figure out just what happened this evening. For those of us with more distance on this, tonight was her last chance to change the momentum of the campaign and to make her case to the superdelegates and it didn’t happen. The DNC and the Obama campaign are not going to let MI and FL affect the results. So her campaign is over if not done. She can go on but at this point more at a cost to herself than to Obama. Clinton though has never been good at reading the writing on the wall but right now that writing looks like a big Obama poster.
has hrc ever had a loss – one that was not balanced by a win? i think she was in a semi-state of shock.
OK, this sounds sad.
Cool I was trying to make asure these puppies got to digg for their bones :>) :>)
I see you stood your duty station quite well while I consumed my dinner!!
Night gang.

I think it is going to come down to fundraising for her as much as anything. She is already loaning money to her campaign, and she must looking like a losing bet for any donors at this point.
Ah!
Astute points, all! I was thinking more like one speech trying to convince herself that she’s still “IN” in some way, and the other one begging for money.
I’m not the “pundit” you are, lol.
Good night friends. Sleep time.
from the nytimes:
Hillary Rodham Clinton 606,497 50.7%
Barack Obama 589,888 49.3

March 30 prediction from Gary’s mayor:
BY KIRSTEN SRINIVASAN
kirstens@nwitimes.com
| Sunday, March 30, 2008 |
Packed wall to wall and out the door at a new presidential campaign office in Gary, hundreds of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s supporters and volunteers mobilized Saturday morning.
They hope to pack the voters into the polls during Indiana’s primary May 6, as well.
“We’ve got this title that Gary people don’t vote,” Gary Mayor Rudy Clay said to the crowd. “It’s going to be eliminated because Gary is going to register more people than have ever registered before.”
During Indiana’s primary, Gary will be a name on the lips of newscasters on CNN, he said.
“They are going to point at Indiana and say Hillary Clinton is leading by one point but Gary ain’t come in yet,” Clay said.
The campaign opened 11 new offices across Indiana on Saturday including the one at 4405 W. Fifth St.
Obama, D-Ill., supports funding programs that would increase cops on the streets and fight poverty, Clay said.
“We have a lot of poverty in Gary,” he said. “The United States of America cannot be what it ought to be unless Gary is what it ought to be. I think Barack Obama is the man that can make it happen.”
Candace Jones, 16, and her mother, India Jones, 35, of Hammond, set out to register voters Saturday. This was their first campaign registering people, India Jones said. In the past week, they’ve spent hours outside in the cold signing people up, she said. Everyone seems so excited by Obama’s message of change, she said.
“I think Hillary is so divisive,” she said. “She has good intentions but I believe if she’s elected she’ll be too busy fighting to get anything done.”
Volunteer Andre Cheairs has been involved with other campaigns, but said he’d never seen such a diverse crowd turn out from Gary with residents across genders, socioeconomic classes, ages and races.
“People want change,” he said, adding that it’s about “change for my grandkids and all people.”

I’m out of here too. Night all. It’s been grand.
I see the shifts have changed at MSNBC election central – Dan Abrams without tie, Chuck Todd (still around! he sounds a tad weary) loosening his tie.

Sounded like a reconciliatory speech to me with the focus being the importance of including the remaining states.
Damn… they called the vote for HRC…. 22K difference… apparent winer is the phrase…
Re kiddo, it is difficult what exactly went on. FDL is not very transparent in how it conducts itself. There is a very inside outside aspect to it that only becomes apparent in one of these incidents. Then posters will say, well if you knew what we know but they don’t say what they know or why we should not know it. In many ways as the left side of the blogosphere becomes more successful and known, it has begun to engage in more of the odious, secretive aspects of the wingnut blogosphere.
Hey, MSNBC calling IN for HRC – can I go to bed, now? Or should I say, dare I?
The margin sure isn’t what we were led to expect, though, huh? It’s so small comparatively, I think it pretty nearly counts as a win for Obama.
Victory for Hillary at this minute. Sigh.
CNN not calling yet … but MSNBC looks right most likely
If you’re Hillary, how do you sound conciliatory, and keep your contributors somewhere in your neighborhood?
You give the speech she gave tonight.
Indeed Zogby seems to have taken a risk and been more accurate than almost everyone else in BOTH races.
No Carolina Polls PPP was next out.
The local Howey-Gauge did well in the Indiana Polls
But most were calling for Hillary to close in North Carolina to within 5% and win Indiana by between 5-12%.
If anything the Wright attacks didn’t help Hillary as much with Whites and seems to have motivated the black vote even more. I think that the pollsters will be spending a lot of time assessing where they went wrong one these results. And they’ll also have to assess whether they blew their use of Exit Polling in races that allowed early voting and had hundreds of thousands using it!
Now CNN calls for HRC … 22,000 vote difference
You are saying it is NOT a democracy?
Agree- she did what she had to do and did it well.
front page of the NYTimes has (but with no link to the statement):
Breaking News 1:11 AM ET:
Clinton Has Won in Indiana, the Associated Press Projects
Ok, I’m sad. Any music here? Friends let’s at least dance.
Yep.
I don’t fault her for fighting, even now.
WEll, Pennsylvania got canceled out for Clinton, and even if they count FL & MI, Obi STILL has it.
So, when’s eeenuf EEENUF?
Doesn’t she have a job somewhere?
I for one am glad that this is a moderated site. I do not post at other sites because of the odiousness of the intemperate remarks. In my book there is a big difference between being moderated and being censored. This site is moderated, not censored.
I missed the Liddy Dole dust-up in real time
It is only a democracy until you disagree. *g*
called it for clinton but it was close. wooohoooo
Actually it is both.
oh, dear.
Still, having lived through several (multiple) flame wars on old newsgroups amd listservs, I’d have to say FDL is pretty darn civil, and the number of such dustups (at least visible ones) is way less than they were there.
FDL is moderated, and I know it has some drawbacks, but NOT having those nasty flame wars is a big upside, IMHO.
Not taking sides, you understand. Just a general comment.
i miss kiddo and lahoma. i hope to see them again here at fdl.
boa noite, pups
i disagree
OK!
boa noite wobbly
bye bye hillary, sorry about that.
and the whole kiddo/jane scene is not anyone’s proudest moment…
anyway, now clinton fights on. another non-reality-based candidate.
I dunno, the only real change that i’ve noticed was the craptastic primary season.
Time for that old Rule of Law focus again.
I think it was Christy’s “flinging poo” post. She let everyone have at it one last time, and then stopped the fight.
That was brilliant on her part, I thought.
Yep but I keep coming back. In some ways it is like a classroom discussion. Some kind of order must be maintained. My big problem is that I am very disorderly at times and I get that mother protectiveness going. The combination can cause no end of trouble.
Lake County in… 99% statewide, by about 23,000 votes, Clinton wins by 1.8%.
Aloha, Wobbs!
Stroke of genius. Agree.
Ooh, I don’t know how to start this, do you?
Gee when did I miss all this fun?
I bewlieve I remember that one. Didn’t realize it was a “get-it-out-of-your-system-once-and-for-all” thing.
clinton wins by 23000 votes out of 1.3M. that’s quite the margin. (not)
won a medium sized state and not in a big way.
Hugh, if you had reading kiddo’s comments for as long as I have, and seen the final exchanges between kiddo and jane, you would not be so puzzled. Jane gave him many many chances, and he kept dissing her. I don’t see the odious of this at all. It was in public at FDL, and nothing was done that was secret or behind the scenes.
Regarding the money…Hillary may have a sizeable debt that she needs to cover…unless she is willing to forgive the loan to herself. Her campaign made a huge thing about the on-line money they received from small donors right after Pennsylvania. But that’s because her large donors had reached their limits. And the reality was that those donations barely were enough to cover how much she spent in Pennsylvania. The campaign is running on a budget from race-to-race.
She will really not have much of a campaign in West Virginia and Kentucky, allowing Obama to pick up the margin there. It’s all “up” for him. Then he’ll hit Oregon and she won’t have the funds.
None of this is likely to gain her Super Delegates either.
yup. I hope this just wraps it up. Now, can we please move on to winning the general election?
Seems to me it was in Feb. maybe March.
throw “PooFling” into the search engine.
After that, things got way civil that way, and everyone respected, or seemed to respect, everyone’s preferences.
The arguments were getting volatile and that just stopped it all!
Was cool. Made me feel really good about this place.
:)
Oops – silly typos may mean I need to go to sleep. Definitely past my bedtime. Restless cats climbin all over me (with claws, the better to keep from falling off – ouch!”
Whoa! Dija hear that? L O’Donnell saying, “Tim Russert, who’s not an opinion journalist” etc.!
Now, if he meant to say, “Tim Russert is not a journalist,” I could agree. As said, it’s just false.
I like fdl. I would not spend so much time here otherwise. But it can be capricious in what is ruled in or out of bounds. And the whole behind the scenes activity of the site I think is secretive, unhealthy, and not really reflective of progressive values, but that is just my opinion.
(Lawrence O’Donnel?) on MBNBC just said “Tim Russert is not an opinion journalist”
LOL and the sun does not rise in the east
yeah, helped me. well, that and all ur candidate r belong to suck :)
I wish EVERYONE would stop talking about Clinton as VP!
Why would Obi DO that? He’s pretty secure! And she’d just screw everything up, and who’s going to take the Cheney powers away before she gets her grabby hands on them?
You phrased that so much more succinctly than I did.
i value the analysis and information that many of the posters put out. And I really value the community. but, I agree, there is behind-the-scenes action that I don’t really like. Figure it’s the price to pay for the good that comes from here. so far, well worth it.
Did you see my comment downstairs about Cortez?
Alrighty….. heading off to bed…. Nite all
nite katymine
So Gary, IN, and surrounding Lake County only went 55% – 45% for Obama. The lack of somewhat more lopsided outcome expected is why he did not win IN…kinda too bad…I’d rather have seen him put the done fork in Hillary…
Yeah! LOL
I forgot about that.
Surely as effective as the Poo Fling!
lol
g’nite katymine
I’m baaack! – let’s see – who predicted 51-49 earlier tonight?
picking fights!
no katy,
i’ll go look and then off to bed.
thank you.
:)
I whole heartedly agree with the OKK assessment, but, TRex was done behind the scenes, VG! 8-( I don’t like to see any disharmony, but, it is inevitable…
Nighters, Greg.
Have either of you been behind the scenes to know what is going on?
I have been here since the beginning of the blogspot site. I am amazed at how personally/emotionally I have become involved. When one of the writers left suddenly (grrrrrrr) I went into a state of grief. Not sure how healthy that is. But this is a strong community and has gotten me out in the world trying to make a difference. I needed a kick in the butt.
“TRex was done behind the scenes” just sounds unseemly.
David, THANK YOUUUU so much! You were great! And this was a fantastic and historical night.
Great to have you there doing for us.
Thanks, totally a bunch!
Good night Pups,
Very cool to hang with y’all tonight.
Headline from FDL News Box

CainBush Says He Would Put Conservatives on Supreme CourtAnd he hopes to be done behind the scenes again soon.
Source…It’s not up on the Indiana Secretary of States site.
Well I have been here nearly as long as you and yes, I did witness the whole exchange. You are confusing though what are two different but related issues. The first is the treatment of a long time commenter like kiddo which I thought was fairly shabby. The second is that fdl does have a lot of behind the scenes discussions which commenters are not privy to. I believe progressive sites should be as open and as transparent as possible. Over time I find fdl is becoming less not more so. Again jmho.
First he has to appoint an ambassador to the League of Nations.
So Gary, IN, and surrounding Lake County only went 55% – 45% for Obama.
Fuckin’ Gary – we been carrying those fuckers for about 30 years, and they didn’t come through…
nope, I’m merely a commenter. i only see what I see. and I value this place a lot.
I want to be special and go behind the scenes.
Maybe it is the smell of fresh Gary air.
My last post on NC, promise…
Patrick McHenry, (NC-disgusting) licked his R challenger better than 2 to 1. He will be facing Dem. Daniel Johnson, who handily defeated his opponent.
Can’t imagine what the 50,000 voting Rs in NC-10 were thinking.
Among those voters, McCain scored 73% — they liked Huckabee to the tune of 14%.
61% of the district’s 80,000+ Dem presidential votes went Clinton.
Sad about Neal, but proud he made the effort — he certainly got the party’s attention after they’d ignored the race. Trust NC hasn’t seen the last of him. He SO gets it.
I’m so glad I’ve “met” you and many others. You all have been a godsend.
Back at you Margot.
Clintons were never really “party” animals or they would respected the party as a result we got 8 years of war and horror. No more war period. I don’t buy feel sorry for Hil her attacks and McPain support…Lieberman freindship. it is time for two states in the ME Isreal and Palestine. It is time for sincere diplomacy and peace efforts. The Clintons are not peacemakers and they started apying on America and torture. Take a cold shower. The DNC sucks eggs as the Aussies say. Carter has it right on the ME.
Let Obama campaign on policy now. Get him in the White House send a message no more war. The war should be on poverty that is a real Dem winner. Peace Now!
Like Obama said tonight. It is time to start speaking the truth.
No head, no backstage pass.
:) I keeeeeeed!
Then I want a front row seat.
Back in my days at the Armadillo, my Crazy Ex Old Man Teh Drunk and I made enough off no head t-shirts to pay the rent 3 months in a row. The bouncers bought most of them.

Welcome to the aftah-party!
Hey Newton. How’s life?
Goodie. How are you Laura? I am going to be in Marin at the end of the month. Lunch at Picco? or Vietnamese on 4th St.?
It’s pretty amazing tonight.
I’ve been in suspension for months. Now, we can jump on and ride this to the big chair.
I am greatly relieved.
You?
This par-tay needs some music!
Name the day, Mary, and I’ll do my best to meet you at any place you like (except a pizza joint. Celiacs can’t eat at pizza joints!)
I’m well, thanks. Needed to get some writing done tonight, but couldn’t get tear myself away from the toobz, hoping…now I’ll have to get up earliest to be only a little behind. Still, worth it. I feel hope.
Irish or Italian? My neighbor has it really bad and he is both.
Picco is a pizza place so that is out. Ron and I used to eat at a Vietnamese
place on 4th right across from the banana drum place. Maybe that would be good.
Good night all. I have to get away from this box.
Let’s kick it up a notch
nite mary
cheered me right up :-)
Lucky you, I didn’t get any writing done these past 6 hours … but I don’t feel guilty.
Inebriated ? Yes ! Guilty ? No ! *g*
G’ nite Mary !

I don’t feel guilty, either. But tomorrow at 5 a.m, I’ll feel groggy! Hope all is well with you, Petro.
Good night everyone. Tomorrow is a new day.
((((( Laura )))))
I’m off to bed !
Just to point out that whatever happened with TRex was a personnel matter, and as such is really no one’s business but the siteowner’s and his. Really quite different from any issue that may have come up with a commenter.
