Access to abortion has been steadily chipped away on a variety of fronts, while roadblocks have been placed for women seeking to exercise reproductive freedom and choice. While it is still legal for women to get an abortion, it’s become difficult to find facilities to perform them, as well as certain other hurdles that have to be overcome in order to terminate a pregnancy. For women with limited means, that can be the equivalent of an overturned Roe vs. Wade.

Abortion has always been an issue of class. Even if Roe vs. Wade were overturned, women with money can always get an abortion, if not clandestinely in the U.S., overseas in any number of countries where it is legal. Poor and working class women don’t have that option.

So I would say that the anti-choice fundies have been wildly successful.

Politics has always been about change in tiny, incremental steps on hot-button issues. The right-wing has understood that implicitly and never takes its eye off the ball, while the left has taken hard-won advances for granted and goes off to the beach to celebrate and only comes back when it’s too late.

We only have ourselves to blame for the right-wing takeover of the country. Until we get active in the Democratic party and force the DLC out, we are just spinning our wheels every election cycle. It’s there, inside the Democratic party where the change must happen. They want us, the base, liberals, the activists, gone. As soon as we’re gone, there will be a W E L C O M E sign out for the moderate Republicans who have been sidelined by the fundamentalist Christian base of the Republican party. That is what this race is about, and what the Clintons are up to.

As a politically progressive male I am very sad that so many woman see abortion rights exclusively as a “women’s issue” or an issue of “women’s rights”. Freedom of choice is a HUMAN right and it’s restriction is simply another example of splintering of people against one another as a means of social and political control. Futher, those who see the discrimination in women’s healthcare and science as simply another example of misogyny and not capitalism at it’s finest condemn us ALL to the political triangulation that makes everyone the victim of poor healthcare.

Sexism and racism are both mechanisms of division and social and political control and they are bein’ used quite effectively in this election to insure that the victims of the former remain marginalized out of power.

Wake up people…the enemy are not your brothers, the enemy is the social and economic system which allows a few to profit at the expense of the many!!
