Harry Ried needs to answer the question “Who are the ‘we’ he is talking about?” He is obviously not refering to Democrats or those who beleive in the rule of law. He must be talking about the corporate wing of the Democratic Party.

I hope he relinquishes his post, it is clearly far more than he can handle being from Nevada and having undue influence on his voting decisions dictated to him by his owners.

I think we could make a smaller list. Count the votes where a majority of Dems voted one way, and a majority of Reps voted the other way, and where Lieberman sided with the Dems, since the Dems took over the Senate in January 2007.

In an April 30 interview of Robert Schlesinger, the son of the Kennedy administration speechwriter, Jon read a partial book review from H. L. Menchen. Jon was very smitten with Menchen’s style and he ended up commenting “Whatever happened to flap and doodle and balder and dash…” to which Schlesinger retorted, “I think they’re in the White House!” I thought that was just a really cute remark, but maybe they’re actually in the Senate!

Reid was so soft-spoken promoting his book, Fighting Something, Something on The Daily Show that he reminded me of a timid little girl. Stewart had to coax the words from Reid’s mouth. His other major points were:

The Senate is a collegial body.
The war costs $5000 per minute, but he and Pelosi are seeking to fund it through next year.
He and his fellow senators like to get things over with so they can go home.

Reid is neither a fighter nor a leader. He is a pathetic milquetoast. He needs to go.

More importantly, what makes you think he won’t? We don’t have a voice in this; only Senators do. I agree that if we had a vote on this, Dodd would be a much better choice, but that doesn’t make it nearly so.

A friend commented to me in email that Reid needs to throw Lieberman under the bus now, so that Lieberman’s Zell Miller bit at the Republican convention looks like sour grapes on his part. If the Dems wait until after the convention speech, then anything that is done is sour grapes on the Dems’ part. I like that thinking.

So Lieberman for end-times? Wouldn’t surprise me. Paul Bass noted sometime back that Lieberman really has made some dangerous alliances.

Here’s a bit about him:

Before Monday’s outdoor welcome ceremony, Hajj received visitors in his hospital room, including dozens of senior Sudanese officials who wished him a speedy recovery.

Though able to walk a short distance at the event in his neighborhood, Hajj was still weak after a 16-month hunger strike at Guantánamo.

His attorney, Zachary Katznelson, who met with Hajj at the U.S. base April 11, said he was emaciated by the hunger strike. He said Hajj had been having problems with his liver and kidneys and had blood in his urine.

Hajj was never prosecuted so the U.S did not make public its full allegations against him. But in a hearing that classified the cameraman as an enemy combatant, U.S. officials alleged that in the 1990s, Hajj was an executive assistant at a Qatar-based beverage company that provided support to Muslim fighters in Bosnia and Chechnya.

Two other Sudanese detainees at Guantánamo were released with Hajj.

Besides Reid on Saturday, there is one other major event of note for May 10th, and I am finally stepping out of the shadows to announce my complicity.

Yes, pups, 39 years ago, May 10th, the banner-headlined around-the-world Zip to Zap, started by a small but determined bunch of upstarts at one college newspaper drew crowds from around the country. And network teevee headlines. And the National Guard activated by the governor.

Ah, those were the days. But today our ND Guard is over in Iraq. And a brief moment of spring exuberance but a memory, albeit a fond one, to share during these times of remembering too many sad occasions, like Kent State.

Oh, but yours truly did sell enough tee-shirts to pay expenses for a summer interning in Washington DC addressing the Senator’s Christmas cards…to the whole state in an election-upcoming year.

A powerful reminder to moi of why it matters that we keep the young inspired for a lifetime of activism…and voting.

I want to know if Lieberman only votes differently than Senate Democrats on Iraq, then does his intension to vote for McCain mean Harry is going to vote for McCain too?

Bluto would have brought impeachment proceedings against the war criminals and Constitution betrayers in the Bush administration. He would also have stormed the White House and given it back to the people! One can only wish.

Lieberman should have matched Waxman, investigation for investigation, hearing for hearing, on virtually the same topics — and then some, being a Senator.

He traded oversight for keeping his seat. He is a useless corrupt hack who is unfit to do anything else except take up space between both sides of the aisle. He has whored out his legacy to maintain Republican thugs and thieves in office.
