Good morning, Elliot. I see CNN is still beating the Wright drum…
If anyone is bored with Rev. Wright, Frank Rich discusses Rev. Hagee a bit in his column today. Complete with a clip of some of his best stylings.
*sigh*
but that’s the only show promoting it this Sunday, I’ll take that as a sign of hope, maybe next week they’ll get around to dropping it.
I thought I’d bring your apple muffins with walnuts over here. Nothing like a muffin straight from the oven, smells good too :)
good morning elliot and all firdogs!
have a business appointment in a few so can’t stay long, just stopped by to say hi
ABC’s This Week: Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY). Live one hour program broadcast from Indianapolis, IN.
hmmm…. guess she’ll be coming from the local studio about six blocks from me.
I don’t care.
Mornin’ all!
That is a sharp takedown, the whole piece. Definitely recommended reading for all. Sure wish the rest of the MSM would read it, and take notes.
This was the main story on their home page for most of yesterday: Analysis: The Wright effect on presidential race
Morning perris :) How’ve you been lately? Is your busy season busy? I hope GWB hasn’t put a crink in it.
Morning all.
Cazayoux, Dem takes Congressional seat in special election. (LA-6th, Baton Rouge).
just sent the whole article to the parental units. For some reason, she’s outraged that Obama would attend a church of the Rev. Wright, and I’ve got twenty bucks that she’s never even heard of Hagee.
Smart woman – but she fucks up her vote every single election. Heck – I *gotta* vote, just to offset a stupid one (or more) coming outta my own family…
Hi jayt,
Where’ve ya been, out campaigning?
Tell us the mood there. Are the people psyched to go to the polls?
ps I enjoyed your songs this morning :)
and mornin all yourself, twolf.
Re LA special election — sorry, having embedded link problems
http://www.nola.com/newsflash/…..t=politics
before I go I would like to leave with a wish;
I wish all democrats would stop going defensive when discussing torture and start going on the attack
start asking the advocate why they hate this country with things like this;
“when we torture someone for information we’ve lost ten quality leads for every weak lead we get through torture, we have also turned moderates into radicals
for every attack we thwart through the information gathered from torture we cause three from the family and friends that that turn against and reprise for the torture we visited on their friend or relative
let me tell you something, if a country tortured my son or my mom you can rest assured I will take my revenge on that country and it will not be pretty
so why do those that advocate torture want us attacked?
why do they want terrorism against us?
why do they hate our country?”
I want the democrats to start embarrasing those that advocate torture and attack their intelligence, their patriotism and their platform
I do not want to see another democrat defensive about our position
see all later
no, my busy season is a failure and we might be out of business before next year
no kidding
anyway see all later
Good Morning
hiya Elliott:
I been pretty much laid up for over a week, so I don’t have a feel for it. No newspaper, teevee, or even FDL lurking for the last week and a half.
*I’m* psyched, however….
If anything, I’m catching an Obama vibe.
Does that perchance mean “Good news” ? cause it sure is good news.
I feel your pain! I was raised by a rock-ribbed Republican mother (Kent State changed her mind) and was sent subscriptions to National Review by my father. I hope that having Hillary in the neighborhood doesn’t cause too much disturbance. Here’s hoping that she’s not like W who has to have everything within 5 or 6 blocks cordoned off…
Cazayoux “hopes to join the coalition known as the Blue Dogs…”
I’m lookin’ out the window and don’t see or hear anything unusual.
HRC will take southern Indiana – Obama takes northern Indiana, Indianapolis is gonna be the key.
perris, I’m sorry to hear that.
I hate George Bush and the media/corporatocracy he rode in on.
If it didn’t before, it does now *g*
Hi MM!
*sigh*
How’re you managing your tomato infestion?
Helloooooooooo Elliot, happy Sunday to you.
Lincoln Chaffee is on CSPAN2.
and Indianapolis is positively schizophrenic. For years, its representatives have been Julia (now grandson Andre) Carson in the inner-city, and noted non-sane-person Dan Burton for the northern, more affluent suburbs.
Good morning everyone. It’s drizzly here in Maine this morning but we’re glad it isn’t snow. ;-)
Mornin’, pups — Bob Herbert yesterday, Frank Rich today — salut to the shining beacons…and *spit* on the rest of ‘em. I will know the media have thrown off their tool-shackles when the heading reads “Candidates and their pastors…” instead of “you-know-who.”
Once again, after the election, we’ll have Howard Kurtz mock-wringing his hands saying, we knew better, we all acted like sheep, we chased the shiny objects, we didn’t do our jobs…yadda…yadda….
Hey, Moyers already laid it out for his colleagues. But they were likely too busy gossiping at the table about the next dinner get-together where they’d get to hear Bushie….
*double-spit*
isn’t this the guy who broke the downingstreet memos?
Spit!!!!!! ;-)
Just occurred to me – Obama drew Timmeh, while HRC gets The Disney Channel.
figures…
It’s fascinating what he’s sharing, huh? Wow.
what can i say, i’d rather listen to the rev. wright than just about anyone else who’s been in the news/infotainment lately
Since Rich and others have brought up Wright, and done so in relation to Hagee, I’d like to point out a few problems with the comparison.
1) I was fervently opposed to the Religious Right imposing itself on American politics and hijacking the GOP;
2) It was and is a major strike against Bush, McCain or any pol who embraces those religious nuts;
3) I expect right wingers to pander to religious extremists, not left wingers, and I do so because I think they’re crazy;
4) Indeed, McCain is pandering to Hagee while Obama didn’t pander (until he decided he could in fact disown him due to a personal and political offense, not due to anything he heard over 20 years of being a member of that church) but chose him as his pastor;
5)If Obama’s entire campaign is based on NOT being “they do it too”, then Rich and others maybe shouldn’t be saying, “They do it too.”;
6)The Wright problem isn’t anything Wright said, it’s that it discredits Obama’s claim of not doing the politically expedient thing, his judgment, and his veracity;
7) As much as his camp would like the Wright thing to go away, and even if it should go away, the reality is that the GOP is in no way going to let it go away, they have the correct (and deadly) take on the subject, and Democrats are covering their eyes and ears over it to their peril.
Yeah. But too little too late. Why didn’t he say it then, when it might have mattered? In response to my Q about same when he was here at FDL, he said he would have ruined his career, been unable to do anything for his constituents, and not have been able to make a difference at the time. But I say there are times in the tide of human events when taking a stand is where it’s at.
I hope not, that’s disturbing.
thanks for the heads up. watching now.
Juno, did you read Frank Rich?
yes. there is no excuse. but he does seem to be trying to make amends now – and that counts with me.
Were they being threatened back then that if they didn’t give George Bush & Dick Cheney what they wanted they would lose all money going to their states?
I’d like to add that to the long list of crimes (criminal threatening) against Bush & Cheney.
The only way to deal with a bully is to bully back. If you cave, the gig’s up.
that, i think, goes back to at least lbj.
Lieberman should have gotten his ass kicked out in 2006 too. Sad that Chafee was and Lieberman is still around to spew, “I’m all for killing as long as the US & Israel is doing it and as long as Israelis aren’t hurt”.
Spit.
I have a psychological aversion to people who get it right when it’s too late to matter. Not saying I’m being fair, just saying that’s how I react emotionally.
relevant to teh Sunday talking heads, did everyone read the discussion in yesterday’s Book Salon? highly recommended
Glenn Greenwald hosted Arianna Huffington. Her new book is
“Right Is Wrong: How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America, Shredded the Constitution, and Made Us All Less Safe”
Planning an attack is another war crime. call the cops!
And isn’t it frustrating to hear the media know saying, “We had no idea!”, when it’s been Helen Thomas screaming truth to power around these assholes and they just sat back, caved, and decided to do the wrong thing for Americans but the right thing for the Bush White House, by asking softball questions of it?
One thing is for sure: LIBERALS/PROGRESSIVES/DEMOCRATS/RATIONAL REPUBLICANS (20 left in the country)/ were correct right from the beginning. We’ve stood firm and we’ll look back 30 years from now and say, “I knew that. I yelled it from the rooftops. How come you couldn’t see it?”.
i haven’t always gotten right the first time (or even the second time). hell, i didn’t even starting paying attention to us foreign policy (and national politics in general) until 2001.
can’t say i got being a citizen right when it mattered – which is, apparently, always.
makes me a little hesitant to judge those who are at least making the effort to do what they can now.
Just did, yes.
Rich is my favorite columnist, but his argument here is very flawed, I think.
I understand what you’re saying, and I have strong feelings, too, that people should stand up, but I really do believe in the principle of redemption. True redemption, not the faux version Bush hides behind.
Hey, who’s going to win the honorable Sunday pundit award today? I’m guessin’ it’ll be Shieffer. He may not have the big “gets” but he’s far and away the best of the lot.
Hmmmm, hands over ears, la-la-la-la-la-la, we don’t want to have to report the truth, we won’t get invited back to the East Room or the Sedona BBQ or…..
good morning pupeeps…im sitting here crying………….for EIGHT BELLES,and all the Iraqi children and pets living in that Bushchasm of a country ,my TEARS wont stop today
Morning all,
60 minutes TILLMAN was set up and it was no damn accident. Murder is what we used to call this shit were the country had a moral compass, until dick & george stole the needle. May Pat Tillman rest in peace when his bulldog mother rips the truth out of the nest of war criminals that have taken over our country. And they are worse than the nazis. Blackwater my ass.
Am I Pissed ,You bet !
i cant stop, they are just rolling down, but Tom Hanks has endorsed my man Obama,so mebbe a little joy is in order
Let me refine my comment. Chaffee got it right from the outset. He just didn’t go public. And he knew he should. He just said he was sitting in a meeting saying “this is insane.”
There are only a few opportunities in life to take a stand when it matters. Chaffee flubbed his.
Disclosure: I did the same homework he did & came to the same conclusions before the Iraq invasion. Having not been able to find Iraq on a map a year before (slight exaggeration). From which I conclude that getting it right was easy. It was not one of those circumstances where it was hard to get it right, as long as you “did your homework.”
Turning off meet the press now. Turned it on and all there is is push-pastor time.
Russert–you asshole.
we have MURDERED A COUNTRY for their(OUR)oil,an entire country
he should say what John Kerry said…ya really need to give it up PUMKINHEAD,the highest paid of all the shills, and Dick killer cheneys mouthpiece
20,000,000.00 dollars per year
why is it everyday of this maladministration,i wake up with knots in my stomach?
I agree. Actually, one only had to read G.H.W. Bush’s, Brent Scowcroft’s,Colin Powell’s, and Dick Cheney’s arguments from 1991 to understand why it was utterly stupid to invade and occupy Iraq.
definitely tuning in to see what Mrs Tillman has to say.
btw imo CBS is banging the war drum a lot lately.
a trillion dollars has been removed from the TREASURY…and that is all there is to the mystery….the GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY on steroids
Your attitude is the right one. Mine is just an emotinal reaction, in reaction to what might have been.
oh i agree that it was not hard to get right – if one asked questions and didn’t take what the administration was saying as the truth without checking it out.
i have lots of sympathy for citizens who didn’t do that – but none for congress.
but none of us who knew (or thought we knew) took enough of a stand.
i started asking questions on sept 12, 2001 – and by feb of 2002 i organized my first anti-war event (anti-afghanistan war), i protested, i stood in traffic and handed out leaflets, i met with my congress critter, i helped organize – all i did for months was work and organize against the two wars. the only vacations i took were the kind where one gets tear gassed.
and i still think i didn’t do enough. so i have trouble putting it all on chaffee – he did far more than my own senator kerry. chaffee did vote against the war, he did say it was wrong. yes, he could have done more. but so could all of us.
hey they need to pay for replacing Katie, war is MUST SEE TV
they used the Nazis smear…anybody not on board for Blitzkreig was UNpatriotic…works everytime
There’s someone else who got it right on invading Iraq,
Video record posted right here at The Institute of Expertology
and i still think i didn’t do enough. so i have trouble putting it all on chaffee – he did far more than my own senator kerry. chaffee did vote against the war, he did say it was wrong. yes, he could have done more. but so could all of us

nothing would have stopped them, this was planned out years ago
Chris Wallace is pounding the queation: is Obama now radioactive for the Democrats downticket?
*heaving heavier sigh*
Good point. Turn the presidency into a war movie/action adventure series as a distraction from the real
business at hand, a new round of war contracts and plain theft, all in the name of god and right. it is as
american as apple pie these days, why, it works! Nuremberg is the cure.
Well, David Horowitz up on CSPAN2, so I guess I’ll go back to reading Molly Ivins’ book, Bill of Wrongs.
once the election was STOLEN,NOTHING could have stopped them
not going to watch horowitz – i have enough trouble with my blood pressure as it is.
what a disgrace to his dad, that POS
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
So that must mean he’s radioactive for republicans. Since they lie and and twist around the truth and all.
could NOT disagree more.
people have successfully resisted in the face of brutal repression. which we did not face.
there just weren’t enough of us and we weren’t smart enough or courageous enough.
they had the media, and the media owns their minds…1984 is here, face it
I agree that nothing could have stopped it. But the more people who did somethng early, the sooner it was going to get undone. That’s why I’m so disgusted with the Ds in Congress, and their inability to stand up for what is really important. I’m not arguing that Chaffee wcould have made it all not happen, just that if he & more stood up sooner, it would get reversed sooner.
I had a personal tragedy that was very apparent in advance–not exactly what happened but that something disastrous was highly likely. I did everything I knew to avert it, but my best was not good enough. So I understand that aspect thoroughly. But whatever the outcome, it’s still preferable after-the-fact to have done everything possible.
Ahh no surprise, Timmeh invited black people on his show, usually only happens if he wants to talk about race. He doesn’t seem to make much use of the journalists and analysts that happen to be black or brown (or female) for everyday issues.
He only likes to work within his own comfort zone.
And -ninner ninner- he’s afraid of the Arianna she-wolf.
i wish i was wrong
i layed ALL MY HOPES and dreams on the OLDEST member of congress, and then i knew…we were trully fucked
of course, that’s how they do it. first make obama disown his amazing pastor – and then get people to disown obama.
that’s just what they do, and we fall for it every time… because i’m not like those dfh.
we pitch our allies under the bus in order to appear “respectable” to people who 1) will never respect us and 2) who’s respect we should reject not seek.
First 22 minutes devoted to Reverend Wright on MTP. No new ground plowed. Seemed excessive. Obama was calm, cool and cogent, but the sizzle is missing so far.
ain’t that the truth!
had a personal tragedy that was very apparent in advance–not exactly what happened but that something disastrous was highly likely. I did everything I knew to avert it, but my best was not good enough. So I understand that aspect thoroughly. But whatever the outcome, it’s still preferable after-the-fact to have done everything possible
—————–
imo ONLY Powell could have stopped it
did obama repudiate wright again?
DAMNIT…TELL TIM WHAT KERRY SAID….let it go………..
Yes, he did.
i would say…after almot a year and 1/2 Tim…is this all you want to know?
((eCHAN))
i’m learning to despise obama the way i despise the clintons.
oh thats good
in some ways i think the tragedies we see coming are the hardest. (((eCAHN)))
your letting the coprporate fat cats control your repone to him,by THEIR framing
And in the spirit of redemption I went back to watch MTP. I think it was only 20 minutes before Russet moved on to actual, you know, issues.
i’d prefer to wait until after november – makes supporting the candidate a bit easier.
response
what framing is that? i don’t know what you are talking about.
Surprise!!
The Fox News AllStars going on about Wright some more, oh and some more.
Brit Hume: Obama is stained! stained and tarnished by this Wright episode.
Kristol thinks Hillary will win Indiana by 8-9 points. She needs an incredible close loss in NC, or a literal win, to figuratively win NC.
on a side note: he isn’t his ebullient self this morning.
definitely tuning in to see what Mrs Tillman has to say.
She’s good, but I’d rather see his brother interviewed – that guy’s a bad man…
But she’ll more than hold her own too, I’m sure.
did ya see this
http://vids.myspace.com/index……d=33546997
they are creating a strawman with Rev Wright, who was mereely his pator, not RASPUTIN..imo
Sorry, I was on the phone with my wife.
Tomatoes have been ignored while my daughter has been in the hospital since Friday with a severe strep reaction, but she’s coming home in a little bit. So, I need to get dressed and pick up a bit. She’ll be excited that the melon and amaranth seeds she planted last week have sprouted while she was gone.
I know, I know: take the most extreme right wing position, and argue in front of the Supreme Court.
TURN OFF THE LIARS…they get million each of them to preeve the STATUS QUO
{{{{{{{{{so sorry}}}}}}}}}
what are you talking about – i don’t even watch network news or have cable tv (other than c-span).
but i did listen to two of wright’s sermons, and i watched wright on bill moyers and the npc event on c-span.
and if obama repudiates wright for anything i saw – then, imo, obama deserves to be despised.
I havn’t got MTP yet, I am TIVOing it. But I watched Friday night and Some of Satruday shows on CNN and MSNBC and it was all about Wright. It just made me sick. It has not changed my mind. I will be voting for Obama in the fall. I voted for him in Texas and the Caucus after the voting booths closed. The press and GOP really do not want to run against Obama and they will play the race card and anything else they can throw at him so the SD may change their mind and over throw the electorate. The MSM are all pigs at the trough. Have a good day, have some lawn mowing to do. Nice day in TX today.(It actually was Tweety that started the race issue the night of the NH primary when Obama lost to Hillary. and it has been that way ever since.)
Oh no!
(((Noonans & Noonanette))) Glad to hear she’s coming home now. Hope she heals up real quick.
it i obviou to me…the CORPORATE media is our ENEMY…and they are bound and determined to keep things (prices etc) exactly a they are
even the peeps at NPR,make 500,000.00 per year,so they are doing nicely
did you see him at the Natl Press club?
The only hope is to Impeach Tony the Scum.
yes, i watched on c-span.
bingo…im sick of arguing with dems, about foot shootings
so this was fine with you?
Thanks selise & Elliott. About halfway thru the chapter on Brandon Mayfield & back to check something on the computer that I’ve been forgetting to do (origin of “Batavia” in association with Netherlands. Am also reason Embarrassment of Riches.)
is it possible?
“NO CANIDATE is perfect”
yes. there were things wright said that i didn’t agree with (even strongly) – but he seemed like a courageous and morally centered person. i admire him.
ok……….ive got tuff to do…want SOME change…vote for Obama,want the STATU QUO…dont…simple
well good,o mebbe hell run for some office ,and you can vote for him
IIRC it was the name of a German tribe.
Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?
Good Morning Elliot and Firedogs,
my Control F function has gone south so I apologize if anyone upthread has already mentioned this
Percy_Schmeiser – wiki
ps- has anyone seen Eureka Springs on the threads ?? – can’t tell from the maps whether he was hit or not
Obama’s 1 hour interview on MTP ended at the 50 minute mark.
I watched all of Wright’s stuff also, there were things that I knew the Media was going to trash Obama with. I have a lot of sympathy for Obama because he had to diss him, but I can understand why he did. Either way, He has an uphill battle with the Media come this fall. I have this gut feeling that Bush and Co are going to start something with Iran and we will be in an all out war and the draft will be back and Marshall Law declared (according to his signing statements he can do that.). Sometimes I lose sleep over this. I digress, we can only take our country back if we all vote for the person that can at least give it one hell of a shot with all our help.
no,im disgusted by the US bombing of Iraqui children, when they are IN A HOSPITAL…we need a change NOW
Was anyone watching ABC’s This Week? I don’t recall any question on Iraq, let alone the bombing that damaged Sadr City hospital, increased US (or Iraqi) deaths. Nothing on the Pentagon propaganda campaign via retired generals; nothing on global warming. Nothing on health care debate (or McCain’s proposal). Nothing on WH stonewalling on information, torture, Rove et al. Did I miss something?
Righto, and used during the Dutch’s 80 year war against Hapsburg Spain to establish some sort of “national” identity. Glad I cleared that up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batavians
Are people here disagreeing with you?
its sickening,just sickening
more of the Fox meme: oh that nasty extreme left wing of the party!
The Orange Overlord kos & the radical rabble at moveon.org used severe intimidation to keep Hillary and Obama away from Fox News, “but we pwnd them ’cause the candidates are courting us (Fox) now.” –well, ok, that’s not an exact quote.
They preen on how influential they are.
And in the the bizarro world of FOX’s Fair and Balanced, the Power Player of the Week is Carly Fiorino, McCain’s economic advisor. (McCain did admit he’s stupid about the economy.)
Could she be the VP candidate?
selise said Obama reminds her of the Clintons…so?
You’re rather missing the point. Wright is not the devil incarnate. He is a black pastor and spokesman with his own voice and point of view. I doubt that any of us would enjoy being chopped to pieces by media out to manufacture the latest sensational story. If you listened to the National Press Club talk most of it was about the history of the black church in America. Most of the questions were about the “controversy”. I would agree that Wright has a goofy position on HIV/AIDS but again most of what he was saying falls as far as I can tell squarely within the black experience in this country in the 20th century. This may an inconvenient time for a conversatio on race but that is our not Wright’s fault.
I have no problem with Obama cutting him loose. As Wright himself said he’s a pastor, Obama is a politician. What Obama did was make a political decision not because it was fair but because it was necessary.
yup
I digress, we can only take our country back if we all vote for the person that can at least give it one hell of a shot with all our help.
————-
the news is just sickening today….almost everyday in Bushworld
I’m pissed..
I got this off Gorrila’s Guides..
Mother? what the f**k is wrong with our military/leadership/mindset? Minefields and cluster-bombs target civilians not troops…Bastards…….
‘There are known nearly 4000 minefields in different regions of Iraq, containing nearly 25 million mines and other unexploded ordnance, which means that Irak encompasses 25% of the unexploded ordnance in the world.
The International Organisation of Disabled Persons reported in 2006 that at least 55 million cluster bombs had been dropped in recent conflicts in Irak, which makes Irak one of the most contaminated countries in the world with those residues of war.’
Yusuf
morning Scarecrow, it hasn’t been broadcast here yet. Sounds like it’s going to pop a few blood vessels here when it does come on.
Haven’t seen it yet. Still Christian ministers around here…the white ones. And ag phd… skipped around to msnbc and cnn. All Wright alla time.
The media are living down to our worst opinions of them.
I’ve probably said this before, but Edwin Friedman (psychologist who wrote “Genration to Genration” about family systems) has a nifty concept. It builds on the old “show up, pay attention, speak your truth and don’t be attached to the outcome.” He tells us to differentiate ourselves and maintain a non-anxious presence. He’s not a woo-woo guy. And I love the concept, though I find it difficult sometimes to practice.
I’m not sure bullying back is the right solution. But it sure as shootin’ is a requirement to stand firm, speak loudly and clearly, and not budge from the spot. I think Obama can do that without compromising his healing leader way of being. Even a healer needs to acknowledge that there are uglies amongst us.
On MTP none of those issues were discussed.
Frankly, I am not sure why Obama decided to go on MTP. What occurred, while unfair as hell, was predictable.
I am now watching This Week. It will be interesting to see how that goes.
i like REv Wright….but I DONT WANT mCgIGGOLO…so i have to think Obama did the correct thing,we need to let this go…we need a Dem in office,i see the forrest through the trees
It hasn’t come on yet over here on the left coast….
OMG… some woman calling into the Washington Journal …. the question is…”Do the political pundits bother you?”
Woman – “no, Russert asks and answers his own question, WHY isn’t Ann Coulter on, isn’t she a pundit? Limpball has a bigger audience than Russert, why isn’t he on, he’s fair….”
THAT is when I turned the channel, boy the Kool-aid must be pretty strong where that woman is…
holy cow – I’m watching a live interview with Obama from a studio just a few blocks away – I knew HRC was in town – didn’t know Obama was doing MTP from Indy – Timmeh is here too.
Hugh, ecahn, and others -
didn’t see this until last night – crikey !
Berkshire Hathaway’s $1.6 billion loss on derivative contracts drags its quarterly profit down 64%

you should have heard the phone calls at the top of the show, the question topic for callers: what does patriotism mean to you? (or something to that effect)
Some pretty funny calls, but the flag pin wavers can’t seem to see past the symbolism. There were some good answers called in too. But the peabrains were funny.
Millionaires talking to millionaires with all the insight that millionaires have into the lives of ordinary Americans. All of these Sunday shows like the evening network news shows like cable news like the media in general have become exercises in self-caricature. They should all begin “Hi, I’m Time Russert, George Stephanopoulis, Charlie Gibson, Brian Williams, Katie Couric, Chris Matthews, Wolf Blitzer, George Will, Cokie Roberts, and I’m rich and you aren’t.”
We need to watch this really carefully…
‘THE head of MI6, Sir John Scarlett, is to visit Israel later this month as Britain forges closer links with Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service.’
‘Israeli officials believe the US will revise its analysis of Iran’s programme. “We expect the Americans to amend their report soon,” a high-ranking military officer said last week.’

On CNN, Wright is “narcissistic” and “preening” for the camera and is “arrogant”. How dare Wright act like he has the Wright Right to go on the teevee. He is not employed by Disney or GE or any other multinational. Let us keep Wright away from the cameras, because he will only try to defend himself. But we can still talk about him (20 minutes out of every 50 minutes should be Wright Time.)
Chris Matthews, all Wright
At the end of the day, we should rank the pundits in a hall of shame.
that is all they got, they will flog it till the cow come home
and my …s ,sticks
I have heard two speakers recently…. Scott Ritter and Ray McGovern at separate events…… they both believe that BushCo WILL attack Iran.
Ritter’s window is now until the end of June and between Nov & January…. he stated things that are in place to make it happen…. AND that the recent NIE is a lie, we have been punked….. HOW does Iran prove a negative? It stated that they stopped their nuclear program in 2003 BUT what if they never had one? How do you prove it?
Ray McGovern (former CIA who challenged Rummy in Atlanta & called him a liar)stated that the window is Nov to Jan after the election. No matter who wins.
Well I am no expert in this area but it rather looks like they bet the stock market would stay strong, not exactly sure why they thought this though.
stated that the window is Nov to Jan after the election. No matter who wins.
Is he implying that the President is the one in charge?
I think we know that.
It’s why the Presidential race isn’t the only thing we’re watching here, yeah?
Scary though. Very.
Hope you caught Bill Moyers’ piece with the experts from The Institute of Expertology
Sorry. Should read President ISN’t the one in charge.
As in, smokey back room pockets and congress.
I saw that. I thought they were very interesting. But, I really like that Katherine Jamison Hall, is that her name. I think she is brilliant.
Bush loyalist Fran Townsend joining CNN.
Still watching Obama. Wright and the gas tax so far. Total nonsense. 30 minutes on nothing.
I completely agree. If Colin Powell had stood and spoke up, it would have stopped. He not only betrayed his uniform, he betrayed his country.
I know about the investigation into Mei Li(?), but he was the one person at that timewho had the national/international credibility to stop Bush and he didn’t.
Implied that the military industrial complex wants themselves a war…. He stated it clearly….. They are very afraid that with a clear Democratic majority in both houses & President that they might loose their gravy train.
McBush stated it outright….. 100 years of war… more wars….. gota feed the beast…
Thanks for that. OK, bullying back is perhaps the wrong way to express it. Standing up is a better locution. Of course, the bully would experience that as “bullying back,” which is what I meant. I once had a boss who was the biggest bully I have ever personally known. He accused me of bullying him. I wore it as a badge of honor.
military industrial complex
Yep. That’s the phrase that came to my mind, too.
But, we don’t get to vote for who is part of that club, or do we?
I think this is reasonable. We are actually in the prime target dates for May (3rd-7th) and the penumbra dates going out to the 12th. With Fallon gone and the possibility of Petraeus taking over at CENTCOM, as well as his “strategic pause” leaving at least 140,000 in Iraq, the time frames for action are extended. I haven’t looked at what the most likely dates in June would be. The best windows remain the April (now past) and May ones. The Israelis remain the most likely initiators although the report of plans for a US attack on an Iranian training site could also serve as an entry point for an expanded conflict. The after election dates are of course possible mostly as a last FU to all of us from Bush and Cheney.
Good one! Thanks for the link.
GE’s Alex Half-Witt, “What a tragedy!”. The horse at the Kentucky Derby has been tragically killed in action by an Iranian Terrorist Group.
Pat Tillman, Iraki casualties, Crazy John saying Irak War is for Oil, More money for Irak Occupation…so. War with Iran would solve these problems, and would also solve the Energy problem because Iran has lots of Oil.
Is it crazy of me to wonder if some of our relationship to Israel’s interests could be considered part of the military industrial complex?
Some light humor….
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BARACK
Also… Ritter said that if we attack Iran, expect the straights to be closed down, possible destruction of the oil fields in neighboring countries and we will ALL think that $117 barrel of oil is cheep….. it will drive it up right up to $500 barrel… yep…. it will be those who have any money can purchase oil…. guess what…. we don’t ….. the credit card will finally be maxed out…
Anna Quindlen’s writing about the importance of SCOTUS–the missing issue in this year’s election. Up now at Newsweek.
“what a Tragedy!” The horsey died. At least the horse was not electrocuted in Irak. Although 12 soldiers have been.
damn – just saw a clip of HRC talking last night – and John Mellencamp was performing there….
??? Did I miss something?
Gee, sorry you’re not getting anything out of the discussion. I am. I do wish Barack would have said very clearly that Rev. Wright had ultimately decided to manipulate (or hijack) this election by skuttling his campaign more clearly. But I thought his position on energy was thoughtful and just about right. Now they’re discussing Iraq and the war effort, and are moving toward Hillary Clinton’s remarks on Iran.
Read a while back that Bush was of the mind to attack Iran because his successor wouldn’t have the testicular fortitude of himself the manly man to do it. So how do you stop a sicko prez between November and January?
(((ECAHN.))) I am sorry for your loss.
I think you have an excellent point here, besides the fact that Molly makes excellent reading.
When the MSM takes up idiotic topics & spouts nonsense, TURN THEM OFF.
Alternatively, if their competition is not succumbing to the “under the bus” theory of politics, abruptly and directly turn from trash channel to tolerable. And so on… All too often, I admit also, I end up choosing “none of the above.”
We need not to succumb to their rantings, but to complain in whatever way we can find, forcefully, not whining.
I wonder what would happen if, some Sunday, sponsors noticed no one was watching these nits.
I like your style. ;->
Thanks for the hugs, and as for my style, I didn’t do it out of any sanity & deliberateness, but rather out of blurting. I was under attack and just blurted out the truth in my self-defense. It seemed to have worked, for a change.
I suggest rolling boycotts. Not just the news shows. Assign each network a day and boycott the whole network. This is sweeps month, let’s build a movement. If they want to morph the news into an entertainment model, shut the whole thing down.
To make this happen everyone would need to write their advertisers and tell them that we will NOT tuning into the programming AND not buying their products as long as they advertize on that network.
Thanks to all the folks who are gonna watch summa this crap so I don’t have to. Think I’ll dig into my digital library and listen to some Michael Parenti, Naomi Klein or some other person who knows what they’re talking about. Or a couple hours of John Trudell.
Mornin’ selise, sadlyyes, demi, solai, Elliott and all the rest.
Interviews with some folks in a small NC town re the upcoming primary shows racism is alive and well in the good ol’ US of A. One guy actually has the cojones to say a woman should never be president. That men are always supposed to be over women. Simply mind-boggling in the 21st century.
That kinda crap puts me in the frame of mind of the old Indian on a Red Nation album: “Come out and fight!! It is a good day to die!”
Good Morning to you Obi Wan. :)
I just turned on CSpan and they have a Clinton speech from yesterday and now the dog is doing is crazy barking and running back and forth through the living room. Could be a coincidence.
But if we advocate, and I certainly do, that our leadership use whatever tactics they have in their repertoire to keep, for instance, the blue dogs in line and voting the right way instead of selling us out all the time as they do, don’t we need to make some exceptions for guys like Chaffee who were kept in line by their leadership even though what he was required to do may have rubbed him the wrong way?
Herbert’s column was ok, but he too succumbed to the journalistic peer pressure of calling Rev. Wright a “loony preacher from the South Side of Chicago.”
Disagree with his message or the timing of it, but Rev. Wright is anything but ‘loony’, or a ‘whack-a-doodle’ (courtesy of MoDo).
Herbert even acknowledges such in a column earlier in the week when he used the term ’smart’ to describe him — “The thing to keep in mind about Rev. Wright is that he is a smart fellow.”
Name calling should be beneath him and, as someone who finds much truth in what Rev. Wright says — no matter how uncomfortable it sometimes makes us , I take offense as well.
Well, CBS just wasted a half hour trying to get Obama supporter to say Un-Obama stuff and trying to get Clinton supporter to say Un-Clinton stuff.
I think at the end there, Bob Schieffer bemoaned the lack of substance from the MSM in their campaign coverage. I gotta see a transcript or rerun of that. what I caught sure came out of bizarro world.
your welcome SouthernDragon ;)
Smarter than many humans dog is. Imagine that.
I just finished watching MTP. If Obama is lying about his beliefs and intentions, and simply pandering for votes, he he does a far more effective job of it than either McCain or Clinton; maybe the best I’ve ever seen. In fact, if that’s the case, he fooled me and I believe him.
Okayyy. You’re a superbly accomplished, disciplined and spirited “blurter”!
*g*
I once, as in over-a-years-long period of time, was confronted with the task of serving on a school board with an obnoxious bully. [yeah, i know, woo hoo, but stay with me here for a sec].
I managed to accomplish quite a bit in spite of the bully, not by cow-towing and whining, which is what she desired and thrived on, but by “planting seeds” in her fertile little mind. As they sprouted as “her” ideas, so my agenda flourished. I like your style much better, but couldn’t have carried it off, so – for me and, imho, the schools’ future – mine worked just fine.
It takes all of us. Our myriads of styles make the repug’s habit of marching in step with their nonsensical “talking points” lookweird and dangerous, just as it is.
They. will. lose. if we don’t give up. Stubborn is good. Articulate, well-reasoned stubborn is golden. Thank you for what you do to elevate the discourse.
I LIKE that!
The Larry and Lou Loser channel just can’t get enough of pushing black on black violence can they? Remember their stupid blond chick who lived in the New York highrise and hates nature – she tried that too and is now scraping pigeon crap. Good luck with that CNN.
But hey is Howard Dean not looking hotter than ever?? And wasn’t he was right to tell Wallace that as long as Fox is willing to play somewhat fair, as Chris Wallace kinda does – we’ll play too?
Kos and Move-On are right to say f** the rest of Fox. But remember Obama’s creed – we should always be willing to speak to and should never fear to talk with our enemies!
“VIVA OBAMA/ -RICHARDSON?MCCASKILL?CLARKE(RICHARD)?SHINSEKE? ET AL.?, 08″
((((((sadlyyes))))))
I want to apologize for my dreadfully inappropriate comments at #176.
We were out of touch with media yesterday, and I didn’t know…
OMG I hate the “sport” of racing.
My own horse died of a broken leg, just running in her pasture.
I too weep for so many of the same things as you.
I’m so sorry… Please forgive me.
[mods. I’d greatly appreciate your totally removing my #176 here. Thank you]
Beware the new moon for any action, better kill ratio.
Speaking of talking…heads, MoDo does her usual monkey-flinging-poop at Democrats act for Bill Keller.
Today, Norma Desmond Dowd wonders why American success story Barack Obama — the kid from Chicago’s South Side who made it to his “NBA team”, Harvard Law School — who’s so popular that he’s won seats in the Illinois legislature and the US Senate, “seems so forced when he mingles with common folk”. I guess she’s more comfortable mingling with those natural politicians like Liddy Dole and Dick Cheney.
But has Ms. Desmond Dowd “mingled with common folk” since her chauffeur had a flat tire on Sunset Boulevard? Hers is a worn Rovian variation on the gotcha question, “does he still beat his wife?” Intended to catch the target in a vile act whether he says yes or no, it proves only that Ms. Dowd is as used and empty as her namesake.
Norma Desmond Dowd is in good company. The WaPoo’s front web page uses the same tried and true Rovian question to undercut the credibility of Mrs. Clinton’s daughter:
Is there substance coming in the next question? An inquiry that might relate to a candidate’s ability to govern? Or will we re-elect another eternal teenager whose idea of thinking ahead is memorizing what to say to mom and dad when they find the beer fridge empty again?
I watched MTP finally. LOVE THAT OBAMA!!!
Because the US has to keep building empire and putting $$ in pockets like Cheney, big Oil, all the military-industrial complex that needs feeding. So? Hasn’t it always been so? The cover seems to be slipping; W knows no nuance.
jmho, yes, of course that’s true, but the obstacle here, at least what it looks like to me is what finds its expression all to often in human beings…that is, a heavy duty condemning, supercritical judge. Notice the intensity, already past the point of reasoning, but not deep empathy. Thank you for yours today!
Given that Obama himself has said that Wright was family to him and a mentor, I can only imagine how conflicted he must be, like losing a father all over again, first his father by blood, and then Wright. I’m going on Obama’s astrological chart here. It’s interesting that Bill Clinton also lost his father, and the primal wound of that is shared by two significant men in Hillary Clinton’s life. Most of us are able to deal with something like this privately, yet Obama has to do this in the middle of a titanic struggle of a presidential campaign before the world! I.could.not.do.this.
