When you look up the word "clusterfuck" in the dictionary, it says "see Terror, War On."
Turkish warplanes bombed Kurdish rebel bases deep inside Iraq in a three-hour overnight operation, rebel officials said today.
The aircraft attacked Iraq’s Qandil region, dozens of miles from the border with Turkey, the spokesman Ahmed Danas claimed.
Bombers also hit 10 other sites near the northern Iraqi towns of Khnezah and Lowlan close to the Iranian border, in an operation that started late yesterday.
Awesome!
Does this mean we get to bomb Turkey now, since Iraq is our ally in The War On Terror? Or should we take Turkey’s side and start bombing the only half-way functional and stable region of Iraq? And since Turkey is in NATO, what if one of those bombs "close to the Iranian border" happens to, you know, slip? Just who do we bomb?
The White House on Friday endorsed the air strikes, saying they targeted "terrorists".
Why does George W. Bush hate Iraq?

Blue Texan! So!
W wants the Iraqis gone, gone, gone, so that his cronies can permanently take over the oil fields…the Iraqis left, once under submission, can act as slaves and build the modern day oil pyramids.
So? Will never get old.
Jeez.
ZED?
Isn’t that the Hillary Plan for World Peace?
I’m pretty sure Hillary didn’t advocate bombing Turkey.
Easy.
Bombing makes the heart grow fonder.
What? We gotta also “obliterate” Turkey?
Nothing shows this administration’s blatant and quite racist disregard for human life in Iraq like the fact that we’re facilitating Turkey to kill our Kurdish allies in northern Iraq.
Bush has made us a truly despicable nation.
A couple quibbles, BT.
Why does George W. Bush hate the planet.
Clusterfuck = George W. Bush.
Americans letting the Turks bomb the Kurds in exchange for what?
When Saudis attacked us on behalf of a group located in Afghanistan we bombed Iraq.
So, the only thing to do in the wake of this Turkish bombing of our ally Iraq is to hit Tunisia hard.
They’re going to need a whole new circle of Hell for the Bush administration.
The important thing is that we drop some freakin bombs pronto…
…the rest will work itself out.
Freakin Tunisians…
Turkey has been a good ally of the US for decades-
The US fuckin around in Iraq has led to the growth of the movement for an independant Kurdistan- to be carved out of Iraq, Iran, and Turkey…
The Turks are not wild about the idea of being carved- so they come in and invade a little- bomb a little. It’s good for internal political numbers…
They ain’t the Ottoman Empire any more- but they can still remember the glory years.
Western European powers allowed that Ottoman Empire to hang around for centuries- using them as a balance of power in eastern europe. It finally died following WW1 and the middle east has been a wild ride ever since…
Bring BACK the Ottoman Empire!!
“Americans letting the Turks bomb the Kurds in exchange for what?”
Over-flight rights for Israel to bomb Iran?
Bob in HI
Since Turkey and Iraq are both our allies, I think the answer to this is obvious. We should bomb ourselves and we should continue to do so until we force ourselves to stop.
That is depressingly plausible.
please. don’t want to give cheney any ideas.
Ya can’t lose quoting the VP!
The Iranians aren’t too crazy about the Kurdistan idea either—they may be next to bomb…..
Saddam kept the Kurds under control by killin a bunch of em regularly- then the US created the “no fly” zones that led to protection of the radical Kurds- which led to their growth- which is leading em to blow up shit in neighboring countries….
Kinda like fuckin with the environment- yer gonna get some unpredictable consequences.
George W. Bush: bomb-ass-tick tyrant.
Free Turdistan.

exactly–
we got more stuff in our arsenal left, don’t we?
Where does Turkey buy his bombs?
First of all, I’d like to point out that Turkey has long been our ally. Not that I’m against the Kurds, but it’s not like this is the first time we’ve been on both sides and armed both sides of a war. In fact, aren’t we on more than two sides of the conflict in Iraq? Aren’t we like arming all sides; shia vs shia; shia vs sunni; sunni vs sunni; or either group against anyone else? For you history buffs, a question: Is the Bush administration the first American administration to be on both sides of armed conflicts in foreign lands?
Except for that whole not helping us invade Iraq thing.
I say, they’ve got it comin’.
Well sure- ya can’t DISCRIMINATE against any groups- so ya gotta arm em ALL! We don’t really even care which Iraqis we’re killing- as long as we get high body counts to put in the newspapers…Once they’re dead- they’re all Al Queda.
oh, hell no.
Hi BT. We’re just spreading peace and democracy everywhere, right?
here’s what’s going on;
cheney has been itching to use our nuclear arsenol since he took office, if we use that his pals in kbr will get the contract to build new
he is also depraved and wants to see us do it just to do it, same as torture
in order for us to even consider unconventional weapons we would have to deplete our conventional assets
that has been the purpose of war in Iraq and afghanistan, to deplete our assets and abilities so the only thing left is nuclear
there it is in a nut shell
In defense of Bush- it’s damned hard for him ta figure out which Iraqis to kill- an ya can’t take any chances- so he just kills em all.
Now that would go over real well. Turkey bombs, no problem. Iran bombs same group as Turkey bombs and IT’S AND ACT OF WAR!!!!
Obviously we would need to immediately go to war with Iran (plus nukes) as a reaction to such horrible hostilities!
Some Iraqis are startin ta say that the American help in their war may not be altogether necessary.
Why Tunisia?
Because it is a slamp dunk that they have just as many WMD as Iraq had. Plus, you will remember that they gave refuge to terrorist in 1802-the damn Barbary Pirates!
See World War 1.
And my understanding is that the Turks are very, extremely fierce fighters!
The US has always been a big hearted nation – we give guns to EVERYONE- and the gun makers love us for it.
Sounds more to me like they’re a lot smarter than we are, too!
The aint chickens.

In return for not launching a full-scale ground invasion.
Certainly were at one time- don’t know about recent times.
Sort of the Five O’Clock follies take on the GWOT/GSAVE/Whateverthefuck it is today.
turkey has killed quite a few of their own kurds. destroying something like 3000 villages, outlawing use of the kurdish language and other efforts to wipe out the kurdish culture.
No, actually they didn’t hesitate to perform genocide on the Armenians!
Wasn’t/isn’t there some sort of Kurd oil deal?
The Kurds are a warm hearted people who have been remodeling the homes of their Sunni neighbors in Northern Iraq for FREE- and then movin into em….
Sunnis are not 100% behind this movement–as they move in- they take over the oil- and then try to sell it to the US….which Cheney likes very much.
It’s hard work!
damn… didn’t bad ol’Saddam do that too? ‘ceptin’ he wasn’t an ally after he…was.
Foreign Policy courtesy of M.C.Escher on acid.
The Kurds don’t seem to have a lot of friends- except for Cheney- and even he lets the Turks bomb em.
yep.
They will never allow the Kurds to have their own land and OIL.
(There’s ‘black gold’ under them thar dead folks.)
;(
yes. with bush’s tx oil pal hunt.
Someone referred to them as the worlds’orphans.

and no thread where we are talking about cheney’s true intentions can go withoutthis link
“And my understanding is that the Turks are very, extremely fierce fighters!”
Well, speaking of the Glory Years, there’s always Saladin and his Kurdish pals . At the height of his power the Ayyubid dynasty, which he founded, ruled over Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Hejaz, and Yemen.

This sort of thing has happened throughout human history. When Hungary under the Magyars took possession of Slovakia, they banned Slovak schools, Slovak language, Slovak customs, everything Slovak. Their idea was that Slovaks should become Magyarized or adapted into their culture. Didn’t go over any better with Slovaks and yes, death and destruction was a part of the whole process.
The Hungarians and the Turks have a long and warm history together—
that’s true.
(so are the Palestinians and all of the other refugees we have created and never taken responsibility for)

Here you can see lots of cool Kurdistan stuff- they’ve got a flag- borders- everything but a nation.
we don’t have to go so far from home to find examples.

Here you can read about the role Israel is playin in arming, training, and encouraging the Kurds to fight for the creation of Kurdistan- (which gets created primarily out of Iranian territory.)
We’re fucked. (Does the fuck up fairy just live here now?)
From the piece linked above:
The victors in the Iraq war are now moving rapidly to consolidate their gains, and carry out the second phase of their operation. No, I don’t mean the June 30 American handover of pseudo-”sovereignty” to a puppet regime, but the ongoing invasion of Kurdistan by Israeli operatives trying to spark a war of secession. Thanks – once again – to the indispensable Seymour Hersh, the truth about what is happening in Iraq – and why – is coming out, as the real victors help themselves to the spoils of war. While American troops are fighting and dying to maintain the independence and unity of the Iraqi state, the Israelis, operating behind our backs and in the shadows, are working to split the country up:
“In a series of interviews in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, officials told me that by the end of last year Israel had concluded that the Bush Administration would not be able to bring stability or democracy to Iraq, and that Israel needed other options. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s government decided, I was told, to minimize the damage that the war was causing to Israel’s strategic position by expanding its long-standing relationship with Iraq’s Kurds and establishing a significant presence on the ground in the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan. Several officials depicted Sharon’s decision, which involves a heavy financial commitment, as a potentially reckless move that could create even more chaos and violence as the insurgency in Iraq continues to grow.”
no– we are the fu fairy.
we are creating hell on earth.
We had one of those schools right here in Phx. That’s why they named the road Indian School Road. It’s in the (now) heart of town. There’s also a Bethany Home Road, but I’m sure that’s a completely different story, and I know nothing of the history of that road’s name or the location of the Home, except that I have the vague impression that it was a home for unwed mothers.
Feingold, JSC on the Constitution, hearing re “Secret Law” (Christy transcribed this yesterday) is now on CSpan 2.

sorry to be OT
fuck up fairy = stupid people.
I haven’t created hell on earth but I know this gov’t has done it in my name. But I work hard to counter that (demonstrate, donate to red crescent, pestering my congress critters, etc.)
At least until after the election!
Jane has a new post up about McBush getting a questioner tossed from an event!
I understand and appreciate all the work that so many here do.
But until and unless we, as a country, have the entire citizenry involved and evolved, we are accountable.
We CONTROL IRAQ’S SECURITY. Just because Kurds and Turks are both our allies does not mean that we ENCOURAGE THEM TO FIGHT.
All we needed to do to prevent this tragedy was to deny Turkey the right to bomb the territory we control.
We have thrown the Kurds to the wolves… again!
“One does not disenfranchise a people in their own land without inviting instructive consequence to one’s self.”
I call this the Law of Turning Around, Revolution. Look at history. This law is consistent. We are racking up more in the way of invited instructive consequences than any civilized people would do. It’s pretty simple. Would someone please explain this to the barbarians running our economy through our government?
Nicely turned, amilius, very nicely done karmic truthing …
BIG tip of me cap …
