Torture on American Soil

The other day, I pointed out that the tortures inflicted upon detainees at Gitmo were performed on American soil. The Supreme Court agrees with that interpretation and said so, in Rasul v. Bush. The Administration seems to think torture is hunky dory and makes a big distinction about the detainees not being given civil rights because they are not American citizens.

It's a conservative reputation rehab attempt for John McCain in Atlantic Monthly alert. In case anyone was wondering, McCain's maverick stylings make him Edmund Burke with a great rib recipe. McCain is totally blameless for every scandal and GOP failure for the last 20-plus years of his public political life, and we ought to bow at his feet and anoint them with oil. Or something. (Stop laughing.)...

Krugman on Obama, Again

Paul Krugman has a column this a.m. discussing comments make by Obama in an interview on Fox in which Obama gave credit to Republicans for certain ideas. I usually agree with Krugman on not pushing Republican talking points, but I disagree with him about sharing credit on the idea for emission trading systems, an idea for which we'll need bipartisan support.

Perusing the editorials in the major papers today, especially the Washington Post, I see there is little to nothing John McCain can actually DO or actually SAY that trumps what Barack Obama didn't actually do or didn't actually say.
