Perusing the editorials in the major papers today, especially the Washington Post, I see there is little to nothing John McCain can actually DO or actually SAY that trumps what Barack Obama didn’t actually do or didn’t actually say.
From the realm of physics:
Republican John McCain said Wednesday that the bridge collapse in Minnesota that killed 13 people last year would not have happened if Congress had not wasted so much money on pork-barrel spending…."The bridge in Minneapolis didn’t collapse because there wasn’t enough money," McCain told reporters while campaigning in Pennsylvania. "The bridge in Minneapolis collapsed because so much money was spent on wasteful, unnecessary pork-barrel projects."
Um, yeah. Actually the bridge collapsed because of a faulty design. But I suppose in John McCain’s world the I-35 bridge may have cried itself into rusty collapse like Iron-Eyes Cody over wasteful government spending.
A gas-tax that ironically pays for the maintenance of roads and bridges, who needs that crap? What a lousy pork-barrel mumbo jumbo that use tax is — employing all those people and stuff to make sure bridges don’t collapse anymore.
And then there is this example of mature foreign policy judgment:
John McCain dropped a little-noticed bombshell into his March foreign-policy address: Boot Russia from the G-8, the elite club of leading industrial democracies whose leaders try to coordinate economic policies.
One major problem: He can’t do it because the other G-7 nations won’t let him.
But the fact that he’s proposing to try, risking a return to Cold War tensions with the world’s second-largest nuclear power after 20 years of prickly partnership, raises questions about McCain’s judgment.
But then that’s from McClatchy and has Warren Strobel on the byline and what have they, and he in particular, ever been right about?
And then again, John McCain has always been right about Iraq, no matter how many different answers he has given. The Maverick wouldn’t lie would he? I mean the man has an "R" after his name and everything. And those people NEVER lie or make a mistake.

No if the bridge had been inspected regular and the recommendations of Structural Engineers regarding repairs had been done in doing the repairs I’m sure the problems with the bridge would have been found.
Penny wise Pound foolish skimping on necessary repairs caused this after all if the design is bad chances are very good cracks showed in the concrete years before they were expected and welds also cracked early.
Unless you believe in the immaculate bridge collapse without nary a sign of
pregnancyer signs of collapse. That picture is freakin’ ghoulish!!!
Also didn’t the GOP Guv of the State cut back the repair budget?
Yeah no more showing pictures of McCain using
Dorian Grey’sMcCain’s portrait!A gas-tax that ironically pays for the maintenance of roads and bridges, who needs that crap? What a lousy pork-barrel mumbo jumbo that use tax is — employing all those people and stuff to make sure bridges don’t collapse anymore.
McCain just lost the blue collar road construction vote, and the vote of everyone who wants more roads to fix ease traffic, and everyone who has lost a wheel cover to a pothole.
John McCain said Wednesday that the bridge collapse in Minnesota that killed 13 people last year would not have happened if Congress had not wasted so much money on pork-barrel spending….“The bridge in Minneapolis didn’t collapse because there wasn’t enough money,” McCain told reporters while campaigning in Pennsylvania. “The bridge in Minneapolis collapsed because so much money was spent on wasteful, unnecessary pork-barrel projects.”
This statement
that the bridge collapse in Minnesota that killed 13 people last year would not have happened if Congress had not wasted so much money on pork-barrel spending…
Is completely at odds with this statement
the bridge in Minneapolis didn’t collapse because there wasn’t enough money,
Ok the bridge collapsed because Congress wasted so much money or the bridge in Minneapolis didn’t collapse because there wasn’t enough money.
You can’t claim two contradictory things at the same time and have them be true. It is IMPOSSIBLE!
The bold and the italics are mine to show the two claims that are in contradiction.
What a marooon!
Sorry I should have explained road and bridge repair money is given to a state the GOP Governor of Minnesota decides how to spend the money unless Congress specifically requires that a certain sum be spent on a specific project.
So either there was enough money given to the state and Minnesota’s Governor spent the money on something else?
Or does John McCain really expect us to believe that a GOP Controlled House and Senate shorted a GOP Governor on road money and spent the money on pork?
I’m sure the GOP spent money on their own and pork!
McCain should know that everytime he criticizes Congress we are going to point out that it was the Republican Controlled Congress and how often he did vote with the majority.
I wonder what his voting record on spending is vs Hilary and Obama?
Ok ya’ll, it’s time for the 30th Annual Athens Human Rights Festival.
John McCain dropped a little-noticed bombshell into his March foreign-policy address: Boot Russia from the G-8, the elite club of leading industrial democracies whose leaders try to coordinate economic policies
Brilliant McCain wants to piss off an oil power when oil prices are high. McCain wants to piss off an oil power when war could expand all over the middle east at any minute.
So if McCain pisses off an oil power when our middle east oil supplies might be cut off due to war what happens to the American economy if Russia declares solidarity with Iran and shuts off their oil supplies because the Russians decided that they just don’t like McCain.
Attaturk -
But then that’s from McClatchy and has Warren Strobel on the byline and what have they, and he in particular, ever been right about?
That FAIR article you ref’d is a good’un. I don’t check in with them nearly enough but they do get a little pocket change from time to time, as does POGO.
Good morning.
McCain’s pretty stupid, but he does know a couple of things.
1. He learned from W that you can say shit and the corporate media won’t call you on it if they like you.
2. He has military creds with the voters so it’s worth his while to keep the world in a state of military turmoil to get elected & to maintain support while prez.
Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo and Krugman. Bobo has something to say about “The Cognitive Age.” He opines that there’s a problem with the way the globalization paradigm has evolved. It doesn’t really explain most of what is happening in the world. He’s a tool. Mr. Krugman’s column is titled “Party of Denial,” and he says Barack Obama is doing more harm to the Democratic cause by echoing Republican attack lines on issues such as insurance mandates and Social Security.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got French toast made with challah and a touch of cinnamon. That picture is a work of art, but more than a little disturbing on many levels… A coy John McCain is more than I can cope with first thing in the morning! Have a great Friday.
Maybe we should encourage him to talk about how he would fight the war in Iraq different than Bush. The war is a loser issue I want him to talk about that as much as possible.
McCain has military cred but your right McCain is stupid we need McCain to open his mouth on this subject that the voters care about and are paying attention too and remove all the voters doubt about his mental ability.
I think they may call this presidential debates.
Yes, by all means, let’s get him to talk more about the war in Iraq, and let’s add in Afghanistan too. But who are you going to get to ask him probing Qs? And Get him to say more than one-liners like “The surge is working.”? And who’s going to point out that his As are all tactical, not strategic? The evisceration of the press has created almost a failsafe election environment for Rs. They really have to mess up to fail to get elected.
I’m going to go out on a limb by saying the bridge in Minnesota collapsed because John McCain looked at it. Hey, if he can guess I can too!
Great post, Attaturk. Loving the picture!!!! *screaming laughter*
Sorry this is OT but it is from Al JAzeeraabout a released detainee
Thank you bushco
Ding!
They {republics] really have to mess up to fail to get elected.
We’ve seen just how much they can “really mess up”; now, the so-called “press” gets them elected by automatic default. With 5+ decades behind me, I remember what a *real* journalist used to be and what’s out there now is enough to keep one in barf mode 24/7.
When I first glanced at the pic above, I thought it was Tracey Ullman playing a character. Forgive me, Tracey. oth, it would be fun to see Tracey transforming herself into the old fart.
Oh, my… Now there’s an idea to conjure with! I’ll bet she’d be devastating.
Marion:
Tracey definitely would be devastating. She is brilliant & fearless. I hope she gets the idea. Do you think she is a FDL reader?
Mornin’ all!
Bush Confesses to Waterboarding. Call D.C. Cops!
Nope, nothing he could say or do will ever be a scandal. Not even when it involves a possible affair with a former blonde bombshell, and the murder of the man who tried to get the possible affair into the press. Nope, not even when the police have questioned McInsane and the former blonde bombshell about the murder:

The corporate shill-hucksters, AKA: the media, have bestowed on McCain a cloak of unaccountability that is unlikey to change in the next few months. Such a willingness to give him a free ride obviously is orchestrated by the editors and those above them.
The parasitic relationship the corpotocracy has on its host, the American people, has to be maintained, and McCain is their organism to continue blood sucking.
The coverage is so different in tone and content when it comes to McCain vs Obama/Clinton that it has to a structure set from above the reporter/journalist/ pundit on the ground.
Earlier, I caught a bit of Morning Joe & Pat B pushing hard, really hard, the ”Obama speaks for the ’elitists’, not the common folks” republican spin. I couldn’t even thrown anything at the tv, I was laughing so hard. They are so transparently obvious even most of us pee-ons can see it.
Gack! that picture. There must be some way to provide a spew alert when opening a page like this.
and agreed, Tracey would be delicious in the part.
Buenos dias
Don’t know, but there’s probably some “6 degrees” type of connection here…
Here’s what’s coming up on Washington Journal this morning.
7:30 am – Richard Weitz, Hudson Institute, Senior Fellow — State Dept. Terrorism Report
8:00 am – Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) — Healthy Americans Act (S 334)pdf
8:30 am – Dan Morgan, Washington Post, Agriculture Reporter — Global Food Crisis Series
Commander codpiece doing the perp walk from the WH would do more to undo the damage that these bastards have done to the world than any amount of speechifying from blowdried politicians could ever do.
Helen Thomas:
In short. Yes.
The Democratic leadership is pathetic, the candidates that corporate America has given us are pathetic. We are fucked until we get people into office that are responsive to the wishes of the (70%) people.
Like Bush, McCain was born into a prominent family. Like Bush, McCain was a legacy admit to his university and would not have gotten in otherwise. Like Bush, McCain finished near the bottom of his class. Like Bush, McCain visibly doesn’t know what the hell he is talking about and makes appallingly ignorant remarks.
We are just now finishing eight years of a dumbass as our head of state. How has that worked out for you all?
This is a revealing graphic chart on global grain trade:
The Global Grain Trade: The Haves and Have-nots
“The bridge in Minneapolis didn’t collapse because there wasn’t enough money,” McCain told reporters while campaigning in Pennsylvania. “The bridge in Minneapolis collapsed because so much money was spent on wasteful, unnecessary pork-barrel projects.”
Since the I-35 bridge collapsed only 7 months after the Democrats gained control of congress, it must have been another divine act punishing the sin of pork-barrell spending. Apparently, HIS eye is on the sparrow, the gay parade planners, and the pork-barrel enablers.
Thanks for the chuckle.
For those with a desire for some twisted McSame humour.

Morning all,
Great tv would be a replaying of the carrier landing only ,with mission accomplished banner unfurled when bush is forced to walk the plank, as the pirates used to say.
Unfortunately this lunatic has a 50/50 chance of being the next President. How crazy is that?
Want the Draft again? Vote for John McCain!
I can’t believe went to EPU before PhoenixWoman (who like me is from Minnesota) had a chance to comment.
I’ll tell you exactly why the bridge in Minnesota collapsed: because the Minnesota’s corrupt wingnut governor was pandering for McCain’s vice-presidential slot. That’s right, thirteen Minnesotans died so that Pawlenty could show how politically correct he is regarding taxes.
Unfortunately for Pawlenty, McCain has become Pawlenty’s Reverend Wright…
Karma’s a bitch, Timmeh…
