In his new ad touting his health-care plan, John McCain dubs himself "President McCain" at the ad’s outset. In big block letters.
I guess the formality of that quaint anachronism we used to call an election isn’t really much to worry about for Republicans anymore. After all, there’s now the Roberts Court waiting in the wings to take care of it for them if the voters refuse to play along.
Perhaps the people suffering under the delusion that they’re actually in the process of deciding who the president will be may have something to say about all this.

Aloha, David!
I propose we call him Former President McCain. Perhaps he won’t notice.
Drug Importation as a way to lower drug prices…? WTF is that!
Pretty slick ad, ya gotta admit.
Its vapidity notwithstanding.
More McCain from Reuters

I’m posting this link on every McCain thread today. This time it’s a little higher up so people might actually see it.
Ten Things You Should Know About McCain.
I do think the folks is learnin’, mite slow, perhaps, but reality’s growin’ on ‘em.
Now Congress, on the other foot, ain’t quite appreciatin’ what’s goin’ on, no how …
Howdy do, David?
Well, that’s ONE way to make him presidential, I guess….
sigh. my medium-info hubby has still bought into the fact that mccain is a maverick. (he’s voting for BO, though). It’s based on the fact that McCain and Bush are not friends and on the 2000 race.
Heh, that’ll cut into my profit margins…! But, seriously, reimporting the drugs we make…? Just take out that monstrosity of a law stating that the Govt. cannot negotiate with Big Pharma…!
“The Chinese government is our friend…”
He’s never seen the ‘Hug’…? ;-)
KO gives McCain the silver WPITW for bouncing the questioner from his talk.
I’m sure McCain must have gone orgasmic when he saw the ad.
no. and he doesn’t do blogs!
11. And he publicly insulted the GOP “future First Lady” by calling her a *unt and a trollop in front of reporters.
Yep – I think it’s safe to say that ranks above Bush’s referring to Laura as “Lump”.
Steve Clemons has a good question for
Presidentcandidate McCain:“Question One: Specifically, which powers of the Presidency that the Bush administration has acquired for itself would you roll back and give up?”
I don’t like the question, the president hasn’t aquired power he has acted illegally
O/T via TPM
*head-to-desk*
yes. I’ve been wondering this since before the election officially began. About all the candidates.
We should ask our selves who we trust to restore the Constitution and restore integrity to all the institions that Bushco has sullied.
What makes you think he can?
Woweee!
I guess I am on the other side of another issue;
taxes on gas are higher then they should be because the price of gas is higher then it should be
while I don’t think there should be an elimination of these taxes I do believe they should be lowered according to the excess in the price as it compares to inflation
According to the ten things you should know:
1. He is racist.
2. He is a warmongerer.
3. He refuses to ban torture.
4. He thinks women have no right to choose and called his wife a *unt and a trollop. He hates women.
5. He doesn’t care about defending children.
6. He’s an adultrous golddigger.
7. He has a vicious temper.
8. He’s a hypocrite that relies heavily on lobbiests.
9. He’s clearly not religious. He’s an opportunist. He has done nothing toward helping victims of Katrina…but, that’s a given because the victims are black and poor.
10. He has done nothing toward helping the environment, and is only latching on to talking points to fool the people, so that we can end up even more fascist and will pepper his administration with Neocons.
Yep: That’s 4 more years.
I dunno, I figured since he is a repug, he had access to the lil blue pills
I’m gonna post 10 comments on McCain’s new ad, each one will be something you should know about John McCain…
Not this way. this will not benefit your average joe.
This just out from Move-On: It has to be Friday
Remember the Pepsi-Coke Challenge? Here’s a new twist: Try the Bush-McCain Challenge—our new online quiz—and see if you can tell the difference between Bush and McCain!
We challenge you to tell them apart—it’s harder than you’d think.
Great translation, LS!
And he did almost fool me on the Green issues until i saw this. so mavericky.
I wish the list had links but I like the fact that he is slammed by his own party as the MSM is licking his boots.
I mean, the guy has shown his stuff by bouncing a man with a question about how he treats his wife!!! I would give McCain a pass (sort of) if he were retiring, but he’s not. He should retire. His nerves are shot.
I wouldn’t know, but I venture he needs all the help he can get. Probably gets a discount from his Dole friend. Ugggh. Enough, I know.
Stupid fucking empty gesture. That bill should never see the light of day.
not to mention where will the money for road and bridge repair come from? the way to deal with gas prices is to deal with it from the supply/demand side..and get this fuckers to stop speculating on it….and while we’re at it, roll back the tax credits for the oil companies. They have had too free a ride when they start complaining about a 10.9 billion dollar profit
Oh god, I do NOT want a taste test. Or a sniff test. blech!!!
Look, for all we know these might be loving terms of endearment between the McCains, a ‘private’ language entirely divorced from common usage, John being, afterall, an uncommon man, and perhaps Mrs. McCain has a few choice terms for her hubby which she prefers to keep private … perhaps even reserving certain words for certain residences …
We are dealing with exceptional people here, for whom conventional thought and behavior is not merely unthinkable but inappropriate …
We just don’t realize yet, how lucky we are to have such articulate and nuanced souls amongst us.
Okay, the preceding snark was nothing but snark …
*shudder* I’m way too visual a person. *shudder* Well at least your equally disgusted/nauseated
Worse than Bush.
lol
spew!!!!!
It won’t. It is pandering (we all know that) but if she can make it an issue, all the more to go at Obama with it). Let her introduce it and then I would love to see some of the other senators rip into it (charts and all for us mathematically challenged folks)
for some reason this just hit my funny bone…
ROFL
teehee your awesome
Did you see HRC saying she was like “goldilocks”? This bill is too big, no bill is too little, hers is “just right”. ugh.
Me, too. sounds like the 1st Act to “The War of the Roses.”
why wouldn’t it?
O, I agree. I wondered why she would want to look so silly and juvenile. An odd argument.
It will pass, because the goopers will make it pass because of McBush…but Bush will veto it…or…maybe not.

OT – has anyone seen Eureka on today’s threads?. Just saw an update on the tornadoes in western TN and all over Arkansas.
Thinks he’s been elected already, huh?
He’s just a legend in his own mind.
Six seconds of that video was all I could stand.
I love grammar police; they make Juno explode.
I feel like McCain is trying to buy people’s vote for a mere $30. Summer sale!
I for one feel pretty insulted by this stupid fricking gesture. People are fed up with poo flings and shallow tricks. At least this people is.
so he is saying the price of a gallon of gas will rise to make up the differance that the tax refund provides
interesting, I think I might agree with that
“than” –
comparitivecomparative reference: “I’m better at grammar THAN youI do that a lot
;(
Federal taxes are per gallon, not per dollar. If anything, the recent increases in pre-tax cost per gallon has decreased the total tax revenue because drivers are buying fewer gallons.
aha, I thought they were per dollar, I get it now
Yeah, I know it makes no sense whatsoever!!!
I’m proud of Obama for keeping his head while others are losing theirs. Again, Hil looks desparate by trying to usurp someone else’s idea. Reactive. I thought she was better than that.
Obama needs to bring a little more heart to his smart message.
Imagine the price shock when the tax kicks back in on gas that will be even more expensive than when the tax holiday started. Spin that for a positive effect on the economy, McCain/Clinton.
I like the McCain ad. Dumb republicans will think he already is the president and see no logical reason to go out and vote in November. Why should they vote twice, this ad tricks them into believing voting for him in the primary was enough to elect him president.
Can tax revenue increase faster than the the Bush dollar decreases? Never! The Bush dollar beats everything in the race to the bottom.
If he can tie his big oil windfall tax proposal to the overall state, and recovery, of the economy he could craft a winning message. And policy, too.
digg IT for this great post by: David Neiwert!
He/She is saying that the gas tax reprieve won’t help us at all because the oil companies will still be able to price their gas/oil at whatever price the market will bear because the demand will still be there but the supply levels won’t meet that demand…so the oil companies get to charge more for that gas (especially for those ’special summer formulations for calif). This is not going to hurt the oil companies, it hurts the infrastructures that our gas tax pays for
yep. it won’t be pretty. but then for folks that haven’t had to buy gas in years, it doesn’t matter
I’ve got no problem with him as President of the local Chamber of Commerce.
I get it now, also I didn’t know the tax is per gallon not per dollar
Speak for yourself
Our CoC is already a disaster
The local Toastmasters could use a young man like him tho…
The thing that I think this reflects, on a larger scale, is the general disdain for democratic institutions by these plutocrats. For them, “President McCain” is just a marketing slogan.
lmao
That is funny. They should have waited a little longer to claim the stolen election
Plus the fact that roads and bridges still need maintenence, so they will be neglected or the revenues will come from somewhere else.
Well said. Obama needs a couple of those high-prices focus group gurus to take his message and add that “Beer Guy” feel to it. Amazing the lengths that smart and personable guys like Obama have to go to win over the low-information voters (and MSM), isn’t it?
yeah, it’s all bullshit.
Really, all Democratic proposals are empty at this time because they won’t happen in 2008. Bush will be President until Jan 2009. The gas tax may get dropped to help McCain in 2008, but there’s no way the little Preznit fellow is going to sign any sort of tax increases on anything or anyone to pay for it. Clinton, etc can propose just about anything to ‘pay’ for things but nothing will ever pass and be signed into law.
“Princeton could use a guy like Joel…”
Electing McVain truly is “Risky Business”
I hear the local mosquito abatement district needs a new director.
Another biting remark from punaise.
I think it is as much Clinton calling McCain’s bluff as anything. If McCain votes with it, he will look to be riding her coattails. If he votes against it, Clinton will use it against him. If its vetoed by Shrub, McCain will appear to not be acceptable to the Repug base.
Its a smart political move for Clinton, from the D vs R perspective, but it is really bad economic and environmental policy.
Heil McWar!
The Republican Wrecking Ball at work. (Republican) Government is the problem. They f*ck up everything they touch. The killed the golden goose – the real estate market that (previously) bloated state coffers via doc stamp fees and other taxes is dead. This and the NCLB voucher program have schools closing all over Florida. Now they’re intent on wrecking the roads.
McCain came up with it first, so wouldn’t she be riding his coat-tails?
An interesting take on that… but HRC has strayed so far to the right on so many other things, I have to wonder… She seems to be all for War Eternal, bombing Iran and other stupid Middle Eastern Politician tricks.
nah, save that for his election as dog-catcher.
Youre channelling Rude Pundit today!

How is that when HE introduced the idea first? Did I miss something? How does that make her look good that she jumps on his bandwagon? Opposite day?

My bad there…but then again if I can make that mistake I bet there can be a few others who do as well. :)
That’s the same Supreme Court that will likely overturn any electoral victory in November.
In any case, Republicans don’t care any more about Congress (perhaps not even the WH although they would love to hold on to it) because they can now rule from the Supreme Court – any law or person they don’t like will be ruled against!
Want the Draft again? Vote for John McCain!
We need this message out as without the youth vote we are screwed. If the 100 year war is tied to a certain Draft, you can bet young people (and hopefully their parents) will show up to vote against McCain.
This would be funnier if I didn’t have a horrible feeling that McCain knows something the rest of us don’t.
do you remember on the plane when it looked like bush didn’t have a shot in this last election
he was having a friggin ball and he asked if they thought kerry was having as much fun
he knew as a fact he was going to win, he knew the fix was in
He secretly wants more Americans to undergo the kind of torture he experienced. Warmongering is the best way to achieve that.
President McCain. Right. Just like Admiral McCain; he never made it to that rank either. His daddy and grandpappy did and it burns, the same way it burns for Shrub. We can all buy those fake degrees and titles from the ads that plague our in-boxes. But I don’t think electing St. John would give us four more years of George. I think it would give us four more years of Big Dick.
Heh. She knows how to win friends and influence people, eh?
How many times has Hillary shot herself in the foot now? I’ve lost count.
She doesn’t seem to do well consulting with people who are not on her own team (maybe not well with them, either.)
Bob in HI
apparently supply is stable, it’s the speculation that’s sending the prices soaring.
That McCain ad kind of reminds me of this bit of American history.
Do not count your chickens before they hatch.
