Dang, that’s twice I was short changed…! ;-)
pasta e fagiole!
Yoo gotta be quicker ;-)
Howdy ES.
Chocolate chocolate cookies just pulled out of the oven..)
more food talk please
ES, did ya have any twisters happen nearby? I saw that a cell passed passed your way…?
Evening Es… The Sharks pulled it off in over Time!! 3-2
Oh and a little Digg for Ya
Hiya ES, CT, Suz, Gnome, Betsy and All — and lima beans…
I almost EPU’d myself. Hopefully Petro will follow us upstairs. As I was getting ready for a business trip to Toronto years back. Someone asked what Toronto was like. One of my co-workers sniffed, “A clean New York.”
Eureka !
Can this be the Dessert thread, I’m stuffed ? *g*
Where I live it’s all about the sea food.
I’ve had a little too much libations to pull out some recipes and post but I’m enjoying the food talk
Hmmm… It’s a good thing I don’t have a Breathalyzer Keypad unlocking system…!
OK, you win..)
Fine with me — learned to love cooking by being poor, and living abroad.
Take ya some fresh strawberries- mash em up GOOD- throw in some SUGAR an some gran marnier- throw em over some ice cream and cover the whole damn thing with a half a pound a roasted almonds. BOOOY- HOWDY

laalaaadeeedaaaaa.
what to do about theeeeeeee incredible lightness of boredom.
what to do.
what to do……..
mmmmmmuuuummmmmummmm…
Apparently, I’m not the only one so afflicted…! ;-)
Huge storm, CT.. Hit my house about 4:30 am. Knocked the power out before the rains began. Arkansas lost seven folks.. but I don’t know what happened specifically outside of my valley.
In the South, where Mr. Gnome is from, they loves their lima beans, only they don’t call ‘em Limas. They are Butter Beans. These are dried beans, not the fresh limas like you’d find in that disgusting mixed vegetables package that came out of the freezer. I will cook butter beans with a smoked ham hock and even I think they are good!
Do not forget a touch of grated orange rind. Or a little marmalade.
dessert is served.
It looked pretty ugly with the radar images… Sad to hear there were deaths too…! 8-(
Now that shit is GOOOOD!
Be sure and read bmaz @ emptwheel.. Looks like we may have to kick back into protest overdrive next week. Did you like the Avett Bros, Mary?
Also, wild mushrooms if you dare, lol. I have been planning a old fashioned clame bake west coast style, local crab, clams, and potatos, corn and onions.
Me too *g* I lived in Germany for three years and was not a huge fan of the food (we Brasilains need spice and heat in our food) so through ‘friends’ I learned some African and turkish recipes. Oh, I would kill for a Donner (think gyro like sandwioch). The.best.food.in.the.world.
nope *hic* *g*
I’m not loopy but I’m happy
CT, Has Aswat Aliraq been down all day?
The dude on the right is playin a Martin d-28 right?
F*cking Hoyer wants to sell us down the river on the FISA Telcom Immunity, bastards…!
I don’t know why I even looked. Of course it is chocolate!
Now that’s one of my specialties.. The Ozarks are one of the best places in the US for variety and abundance of wild mushrooms. Ever tasted a blewit?
absolutely no lima beans.
kthxbai.

Board Game Monopoly Goes Green
from Green Options by Jennifer Lance
Everything is going green these days, even Barbie (NOT!). Hasbro is introducing the first world edition of its classic board game Monopoly featuring renewable energy. Wind energy and solar energy will replace the utilities of water works and the electric company. Phil Jackson, Group Executive, Hasbro Games stated, “In a nod to the efforts of […]
Hmmm… I hadn’t checked them out today, I honed in on Dar Al Hayat today… I’ll take a look-see…!
g’nite julia.. thanks for the great post and recipe :)
I like the name..blewit
Fuck F*cking Hoyer.
To put it more subtly
screw f*cking Hoyer.
Maybe we give too much credence to law and order.
We lived in Paris for a year. Learned to shop, cook ,and love food. Because we were on such a severe budget, I learned to love mussels, vegetables and dairy products, that were so cheap and WONDERFUL.
Tonight we have a nice organic LIMA BEAN soup- followed with a main course of Lima Beans ala king- served over a fine Lima Bean pasta- and finished with a classic sauce de Lima Bean.
doncha mean ‘butter beans’
What! No creme lima bean caramel?
How rude of us! Aloha, Julia, thanx for the excellent post! *g*
night Julia
Ah ze desert!
ES, it still appears to be down… It didn’t load…!
The cheap food porducts in germany were dairy produts (germans love their dairy) and pork products (they much like southerners in that respect — eat everything from the roota to the toota)
All this food talk… but we did have hot wings and home fries…of all home made… plenty of water with them thar HOT WINGS….whewww hotter than my chili….. NOT!!
oops, du lima bean caramel?
ptui.
boa noite, Julia
*where is mr with the wine???*
no , i dont trust myself to pick mushrooms. I go to a mushroom broker here in Coos Bay OR. The prices are close to the regular mushrooms in the stores.
If you don’t have Grand Marnier, try Amaretto …
Betsy, winter is quite bearable when you get homemade Amaretti Cookies along with a frothy Cappucino … Link
I loved the food in Germany, I just didn’t speak the language, so we had a hard time of it.
Scrolling rapidly down this page you get chocolate butter beans with mussels, ham hocks, and a zest of orange peels.
Yum!
Only one nap today. Going to call it a night. Sleep well firepups.
But but but – it’s a damp cold…
My wife is german- I love the food in germany- particulary the wild boar soaked in lard.
ya know I was born in North Carolina. I like these boys.
Nite Betsy!!! Great job over at the Treehouse (sobs).
Now that is disgusting.
For me, venison and wild mushrooms.
pain free sleep wishes tex
Some germans get really old—when ya ask em the secret they say: “Lard- it’s the fresh organic lard- but the cigarettes help too.”
Good night Betsy pleasant dreams for you :>)
I speak it fluently. Passed the goethe tests and all that jazz. But was not a fan of the massive amounts of swine they eat. But the beer was cheap and fantastic (so was the chocolate)
At least we can all agree that english food (the anglo stuff) is nasty
Screw Hoyer and the Clown Car he rode in on …
Nite Betsy, I hope you have a good sleep.
And quit beating me so bad at the word games, chica.
(and I’ve been looking every few hours)
Discovered them a few months ago and really like them. Listen to this youtube a few times a week, especially when the news gets to be a bit much.
boa noite, Tex. Sleep well
The beer’s OK- but when given a choice- ALWAYS order the Pils.
Aah, one of my faves was jaegerschnitzel mit pomme frites…! breaded pork chops with a mushroom gravy and a tater tot like potato, only a lot better…!
Aloha, Tex! sleep well!
Sometimes I think you are baiting me.
Could it be a dream come true?
Our travels have taken us to Alsace many times, boy the food there is fantastic.
Portuguese lesson for the evening:
Oi, Margot. tudo bem? (Hey Margot. How are you?)
possible answers: tudo bem / tudo bom / beleza/ massa
You’re a wuss, the Doppel Bocks… where a spoon will stand up in …! ;-)
Thanks Chris. Did you see the tech support puppy who is holding down the fort tonight?
I like almost all German food… except the sour kraut. They grew all over where I was at and during harvest thats all you could smell for weeks at end… Now Sauerbraten that is good!
… but, it’s gotta be hog lard.
So, could you, like, just fly over here and make that?
My favorites in no particular order.
chicken mushroom
oyster
bear claw
morel
blewit
I once grew a 30 lb chicken mushroom, accidentally on purpose (experiment).
We’re stocked up on Cognac, Grappa, Sambuca, Highland Park, Grand Marnier, etc. for another 10 years or so … *g*
For civilized food- go to Vienna- they have BARBECUE- and ice cream things that weigh about five pounds.
Drive-by: A founder of the Venezuelean voting machine company that is (or used to be) the parent of the US voting machine company Sequoia — whose machines are having documented problems counting properly — died yesterday in an unusual small plane crash with a pilot who’d had drug trafficking convictions in both the US and Venezuela.
Yeah. My family is all German and seem to live forever. The cigarette smokers tend to die in their 80’s, while the non-smokers regularly push the century mark.
But of course
Not since 6:00
omg, Chantrelles and the wonderful black trumpet chantrelle.
I drank whatever was bought for me (remember poor university student here)
I guess I could take a military hop over there and try…! ;-)
Funny thing about unpopular political operatives and small planes. Whom did he offend?
Are you kidding I love German bier but sadly no more for me :>(
Hiya, Pups. Back from Ms. Et’s birthday dinner and a fundraiser for Alaskans for clean elections. And correcting more end-of-term papers. And giving late finals to kids in the military who couldn’t make their regular final time.
Howie put my latest Alaska update up a couple of hours ago.
Our bad…
Ron is in the kitchen making some kinda drink out o’ grain alchohol and lemon zest. He also has sauerkraut and pickles going in thar. I tolt him he is takin up too much room in the frig. I want me some regular food.
*gasp* Kidney and Pancreas Pie along with Ox Tail Soup and Boiled Tongue, polished off with Cobbler (provided you survive)

Aah, no Shitake mushrooms?
((((( Mary )))))
Always glad to be Abbott to your Costello …
all stuffed in a casing and eaten during some festival *g*
If I read the story correctly, he controlled the IP rights in the voting machine software. Might be about preventing source code release.
I scared the FUCK out of myself today.
I had lunch with the band’s bassist this afternoon, and when I got home, I didn’t notice the latch on the back door hadn’t caught. I noticed it about 90 min after i got home.
So I immediately went on a cat search (we have four) and three were accounted for (though two had gotten out, one was quickly found) but Brat was nowhere to be found. J came home early from work to help in the search. A couple of teenage girls in the neighborhood helped too. To no avail.
I went inside and made up some lost cat flyers with a color photo and all, and trudged the neighborhood. I offered a $1000 reward. I figure that would be enough that the local psychopaths would go for the money rather than harming the cat.
I rounded the corner and got to my driveway, and there was Brat, under my truck. I laid down on my big, fat belly and got close enough to latch onto him and took him inside.
I can’t remember the last time I was this scared. But it’s ok. I’m gonna get pretty heated tonight. I earned it. The rum is tasting good already.
To the Dems…? ;-)
FUCK and *whew* exhaling
man that is so forking scary
I have a load of Pinto’s and a Ham hock goin’ right now!
culinary paradise for me was the numerous trips to Italy (had to escape the eternal winter in the far german north)
Not indigenous to the area. I’m only counting what I can collect myself.
Did you mention Highland Park?!
shit, you deserve it
Keeping my tinfoil haberdashery handy, I’d conjecture that this was a non-accident. And, despite my misgivings, I’ve been assured by people who know people that the death of the DC Madam was indeed a suicide, so I’ve suspended my skepticism … for now.
Hmmm indeed.
Shhh, let’s not tell the estrangeiros about our prized possessions … *g*
No Way.
Coos Bay?
LMAO!
I was raised there.
Graduated from Marshfield High, finally, in 79.
Aah, they are a japanese variety!
Oh, don’t do this to me…I’ve been dreaming of Italy for 40 years (and still not ever there).
I pick…beleza. Thanks for the lesson.;)
LOL … Yup, best Scotch evvuh !
me-i been drinkin rum myself tonite.
Now all the local psychopaths know how much you value your kitties. dammit.
Nice recovery.
Heya CT. Hell, to anybody. If there’s proof that Sequoia machine are intentionally designed to steal votes, there’ll be… well, one would almost hope there’d be popular revolt, though one fears it might be limited to a sternly worded Letter to the Editor.
I dugg ya.
LMAO Tão tá.
cool, that is the one I typically use as well.
((( ET )))
Check out the last thread … a preview of what you can expect, should you grace Toronto with your presence …
Best single malt that I can afford.
I had a McAllan 15 year old once that was pretty tasty.
From germany, the airfares were pretty cheap and my boyfriend at the time was Italian. Was a win-win situation.
As if a letter to the editor would even be published…!
So glad to hear you found him!
Sigh…
ahh, the wine has arrived (yay)
I had an old Talisker that changed my opinion of scotch.
My friends swear by Macallan but I much prefer Highland Park.
ET, you are a man to be praised.
Well when you go (and you will go) you will love it. I never had a bad meal there. But I had a few in France.
I do a pot of pinto beans about once a week. No meat though. I soak the beans over night, then put them on to cook for at least 24 hours at a very low simmer, after an initial boiling. Yum! Do they ever turn out good! All they need is salt and they are perfect for any beanie occasion.
That is very good too …
I tried whisky once. It didn’t turn out well.
Are you saying I’ll get a DUI if I go to Toronto, Petro? Never had one, but aren’t they a felony in Canada?
My experience is just the opposite. My meals in Italy were generally so-so, although there were a few highlights, whereas I have never had a bad meal in France.
Having a nice spanish red wine. Why am I craving Tapas now?
why is it that kitty cats show us both how fast life can go by and how strong a critter can be? old age and early death both are kitty cat ways of being.
ask TRex. or me. or any kitty you may pass on the street.
Yes, I too had some terrible meals in France. BUT, I learned to love to shop and cook there. The fish counter was incredible. We went on a field trip to Brittany to follow the fishermen, and eat. What an experience.
Assolutamente … Milan, Firenze (Florence), Venice, Tuscany … the food, the bread, wine … mamma mia …
We don’t use the same terminology – don’t know what the local equivalent of a felony is.
*sigh* no patriotic loyalty to the smoothest whiskeys of them all, the Canadian Ryes…! Tsk, Tsk…!
I was in Paris with mr (our first holiday together). He speaks french (I don’t) and sort of tried to warn me of what I was ordering. I ordered andouille sausage because I had had it plenty of times in NOLA. It wasn’t the same thing. It was basically chitterlings in a sausage casing.
I hope you earned something new from the article. Howie chose the title from a set I sent him. I think one was “Dem Challengers Scrap Over GOP Roadkill Carcasses.”
I was referring to the Food Fest that the thread became halfway through … tons of great cuisine from all over the globe …
I have a great recipe for a Spanish stew to go with that wine, Wobbly. The secret is sweet Spanish paprika. It, too, takes a while to simmer.
Feh. Everyone here drinks rye with horrible mixes. I’ve never actually tried it straight.
I ask my kitty, Jessie Yazoo, that question all the time.. He’s not tellin’.
OMG … with crusty bread … nope, we don’t mind cold winters at all … *g*
Even the table wine/house wine in the funky clunky bottles was FANTASTIC. aahhh Firenza..every time we went back there, we would take a picture of me hugging the Duomo.
I have been trying to duplicate my Granny’s recipe for over twenty five years. Someone turned me on to Mexene Chili powder finally.
I think we have a winner.
It’s not a bit hot and has other stuff in it.
I had to use over an ounce but it’s close.
Crown Royal is good over Ice, when the Scotch is over …
Mary, have you ever tried Spiced Rum ?
I’m becoming a locovore advocate.
now that sounds so yummy. You will have to post or send to me one day.
Feh … why ruin good liquor … try it on the Rocks …
Oh, you boys!
Hey y’all, it’s ONE WEEK to my band’s CD release party. If you’re in the SF Bay Area, C’Mon down! The Bistro, 1001 B st, Hayward, on the 10th, 9p-12a.
Ahh spain was nice too (different boyfriend) Wow. Now that I go back and read this, i was quite the hussy. *g* Well at least I was connecting with my fellow human being
Was it you that had the Paprika chicken video?
that looked awesome.
spiced rum is my death.
Firenze is the most romantic city, the food, wine and art … breathtaking … seeing La Pieta is a landmark moment in an amazing life …
I gotta have some fried chicken soon. I don’t eat it very often, but good fried chicken is nectar of the gods.
Cool. Wish I could come. Will someone there be recording for posting on the toobz???
I look forward to the extremely short winters we have here so that I can cook some of those hearty recipes. It took awhile for Mr. Gnome to understand. Now when the first cold front comes through he asks if it is time for Coq au Vin, one of our all time favorites in my repertoire.
i will have to be there in spirit only, dood. i’ll be here working – am saving my taking time off for the end of the month for the wedding :( :( :(
I could tell you about my Irish boyfriend in 1971?
Heh, the wine is loosening ya up, eh? ;-)
Nope, but sounds intriguing!
… but what a way to go … *g* … me and Wobbly will have to share some Rum from the Windies with you some day … smooth as honey …
There is a drink in Scotland called, ‘Hairy Coo’ and it is rum, spiced rum and coke. I swear it hit me so hard, next thing I knew some guy was trying to talk me into swimming in Loch Ness at 3 am (we were staying at a hostel). Evil stuff
hahah do tell
Sounds like she’s pretty loose already … *g*
… ba dum pum …
((((( WB )))))
Sort of. I had my wild period. I can’t change it and wouldn’t *g*
Coq au vin is wonderful and we love Winters for that very reason … all the spicy meals appear as if by magic …
teehee. I am brasilian. We are a hot blooded, passionate people *g*
OK Gang, I am going to call it quits. I have a big shindig to go to tomorrow, and its 90 miles away. If I want to make it by lunch, I’d better get my beauty sleep. I am sure I won’t be the only one with dreams of food and drink dancing in my head after this thread!
NO HEAT then it is a sweet chili…. godd for bring out the chili taste but with no heat you need to mix in some nice chipotle
g’nite gnome
definitely. we brought back some fine sipping libations from our last time there
boa noite, Gnome
Aloha, Gnome!
G’ nite gdp
Go gentle with that chipotle, busted. Under that delicious smoke is a fiery jalapeno just waiting to attack.
OK, now we go night nights.
G’nite GdP !
Here is a guide to chili peppers
Judicious use of good hot spices sure do help with any dish… even Apple pie :>)
Heh, heh, heh.
Oh Yeah…..
speaking of waiting to attack.. how’s baby girl from hellcat settling in?
the one to be careful with is the habaneros just handling them can be an experience you are sure to be remembered… but used to bring up the heat of a dish they are wonderful!
I’m a sucker for green chile. Specifically New Mexican green chile. Specifically Hatch, New Mexico green chile
Heh, not only could it be fiery going in, but, fiery coming out after, too…!
BRB, Cat treats, Crack for cats, I swear!
Ya but it does clean out the ole pipes
hellcat has changed busted
Scotch Bonnet packs a nice punch …
that is the killer pepper. you have to fish that sucker out of the pot before someone ‘accidentally’ eats it and is never the same.
malagueta peppers are also quite lovely
Is that a clip from Dukes Of Hazzard?
We have a little red pepper that is grown here that puts a habanero to shame…!
Oh my, that’s what we used to buy.
Very ticked that my first several years in Ohio, I couldn’t grow green chili. Finally figured it was the clay soil and too much rain.
yeap
Come on whe having a party I make two pots of chili and the HOT one has all kinds of peppers that I add and hour before, including habernos, floating on the top and that is the pot that seems to always run out first….
I’ve been to Hatch, many times. Ever been to the old saloon in Hillsborough?
For the dog owners and lovers: A warning about Canine Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritus (HGE).
The symptoms of this disease are very much like those of Parvo but it is different in that your dog is not protected by vaccines.
Please read this diary up over at the orange overlord’s place .
That makes me even more suspicious!
what is it called?
No, I haven’t. You recommend that I pay it a visit?
It really gets hot when you grind it, soak it in vinegar and let it sit in the sun for a couple of weeks … *g*
you left a scotch bonnet in? A habenero, I can beleive but not a scotch bonnet
i thought habeneros were hot but then i found that scotch bonnets are hotter. Some think that they are the same pepper but they aren’t. Learned that from the pepper man down at the carribean market
okay scotch bonnets are making me think of jamaican food / carribean food
When I can get them and they do disappear. But some of my friends do love the heat if they aren’t sweating while eating the chili is just not hot enough. they will usually have two to three bowls at a sitting, I do use brown sugar in it which does temper it a bit… it allows you to really eat some before the real heat hits home.. but dam it sure is good. I made a nice mild chili for the last Bear Creek meet up and it went over quite well.
I hitch-hiked down around there; that’s one town name I do remember. We saw some guys walking toward us, and in Spanish they asked how far to Hatch. It was 50 miles. They had a 6-pack of Coke with them, nothing else.
I’m not sure what the scientific or even conventional name is, we only call it hot Hawaiian chili pepper… Everybody knows what you’re talking about… It grows on a bush and the peppers only grow to a max of an inch and about a 1/4 of an inch in diameter, but, it packs a serious wallop! One or two is more than enough in a Chili… ;-)
Mmmm mmmm … our food is like our music … hot ‘n’ spicy …
it was mild to you… my poor gringo mouth was aflame but yet still able to enjoy the flavors. of course, its been many years since i’ve eaten peppers
Hey, it’s also a semi ghost town.
I wouldn’t consider going to Hatch without a beer in the old Hillsborough Saloon. If it hasn’t changed.. it’s all original, open 24/7 with no permanent fixed front door.
I fish the out of the pot because even cook, they can give people mouth blisters. But then again, it might be the variety. I got these in Brasil. Maybe they’re not as hot here because of soil/humidity?
exactly. I find that to be very true
The site I linked to above covers the peppers and their rating on the Scoville scale.
the hottest one covered is from India:
Lost my connection fer a bit.
I ain’t heard that one in years!
oh cool. I will definitely stop by for a nice cold beer. actually I have been able to find some frozen green chile fron Hatch here in Los Angeles.
i was wondering if hellcat got to ya …
I’m toast, time fer some sleep, Gnite
I’ve tasted this and it is like a nuclear explosion on your tongue …
g’nite busted
That burns, just thinking bout it.
boa noite, busted
I can imagine…. sounds just a wee bit too hot even for my tastes… but might be very useful in chili or something and cooked for a long time to get all the flavors out.
You said it Bro … I actually started to perspire before I bit into it …
Indian food is also a favorite well was a favorite. We used to drive over to Little India (artesia) and eat at the restaurants. They also have supermarkets, sweet shops, etc. Very cool to try out the different regional cuisines.
Aloha, Busted!
Impeach them before they take everything. I read Eli’s Deaf: no command in the early occupation! Criminal insanity.
Do not rub eyes when cooking with chile.
AK has had some unusually rough weather, I was listening to radio reports on NPR and hoped ES and friends came out OK. It’s been a terrible spring for so many. Earth Day…Global Warming. Hoyer is complicit with the corporatists.
I was in Portland 1970 where anti coporation demonstration were happening. Did not get it…I got it now.
Firenze is fine.
Happy TGIF puppies. Dream of frog walking War criminals.
My Veggie Victory Garden is gonna be fabulous. I’ll add some peppers.
I may start making ale. Life is good fuck the fascists.
sleep well, busted!
(and yay! for Coos Bay)
Yogurt is your best friend when the Chilis become too hot …
evening doctor
The hawaiian chili pepper looks identical to the ones that are shown at the top of this page right between the two photos of individuals and above the platter of peppers…
ooh sweet, lime and chile cashews. yummy.
hey kirk
wobbly, my addled little mind never realzed you are in SoCal. Pasadena was lovley today – residential streets scented of flowers (not smog)…delightful…
Ahmen, brother
((( Kirk )))
I love Firenzie.. took this night photo a few years back.
kirk, just posted this in the news box. all salmon fishing has been banned on the west coast
evening newton, and hi suz.

Plus: after playing on the high end of the Scoville scale, wash hands before peeing….
even if the ER sees you right away, the wait will still be long….

We two-legs have fucked up but good…..
Yes, I am closer to Long Beach/San Pedro but I imagine it was gorgeous there today. I can’t wait for some of our new native plants to take off, the smell will be intoxicaing *g*
ES, what the heck is this? ;-)
Heh.
For the XX’s who “dab”, there is no place to hide.
(of course, for those who don’t, not an issue)
congrats on your..er…immunity ;)
they look interesting… do you know the name??
i claim the bling-bling bridge *g*
Spring in Toronto so the old Ball ‘n’ Chain has me doing yard work … *g* … gotta get this dayam book published too so I can take a trip back to Firenze …
cool, wobbly….what natives came to play.
big difference between dabbing and grabbing ahold of…
Only as hot Hawaiian Chili Pepper…! ;-)
don’t even want to think about that… but even worse is if you get them in the eyes… you have to keep running COLD water running over them…
The dog is famous in Firenze, CT. He goes everywhere, and occasionally allows his master to eat some of his food.
ES, I have tons of pics of that bridge. It has to be the horrendous amount of jewlry (GOLD) stores there.
But Tuscany is the leather capital so if you want to buy leather, do it there ..but haggle the hell out of them
Aah, nobody told me Willie Brown was on NOW, tonite!
Avett Brothers …so good
Looks like a French Bulldog … or a child who looks like “Mom’s side of the family” … *g*
Are you sure it’s a dog…! ;-)
happy birthday spidey (still a few minutes left to wish you many many more)
we have blue eyed grass, deer grass, monkey flower, coastal sages, and some other stuff that I will have to look up in the morning.

Hey, Spidey! What’s in the stars tonite…? *g*
hehehe
aw shucks
happy birthday, spidey!
hope the heavens smiled on this day
Scotch Bonnet is my favorite pepper. Makes most beg for mercy.
I like Scotch bonnett in EXCESS. heh heh heh.
And on that note, I’m dragging my fat ass to bed. All my kitties are safe and I’m emotionally spent after this afternoon’s scare. G’night all.
Where’s tbe Cake … and don’t say, “In Uranus!” *g*
Happy B’Day, Spidey !
feliz aniversario spidey
OK, actually the gold store bridge is in that photo (the next bridge down stream). This was over xmas new years ‘03-’04. Much to my surprise and delight, new years day is the only half off (winter clothing) day in Firenze.
hey tuttle …could you get more specific?
that’s like sayin’ What’s in the grocery store
thanks for the wishes
A long time ago.. I half jokingly sent that photo to CHS in hope she might use it in a Pull Up A Chair post.. She used a different photo, without the dog..)
ah, okay. Looks like the bling bridge with all the lights and such. I cleaned up on leather stuff there and i’m pretty sure I ate my weight in gelato
I am planting habanero, jalapeños, pablanos, pimentos and sweet banana peppers in the garden in the morning. Of course I will be planting lots of tomatoes including the Sun Golds… these never make it into the house we just pick and pop right into our mouths… sweet and very pronounced tomato flavor… by far our favorite
The suspicous side of me would definitely suspect an IP war exacerbated by possible criminal prosecutions. There are definitely unethical people who stand to gain from his demise.
Could the Iranian war drums be beaten this week, considering we have a new moon occurring shortly…?
Wonderful. I love fresh garden tomatoes. There is nothing like them
okay pups, I have enjoyed the food/pepper/libations conversation. Seems I have fallen behindin wine drinking and must save face *g* Have a wonderful evening/night and sleep well.
boa noite.
The obliterate-Iran people seem to be 24*366 this year.
Excellent star query, CT.
boa noite, wobbley
Spidey, happy birthday and many more happy ones to you!
g’ nite wobblyb
Ooh – here’s a “tip” (quiet, Suz)
after Seattle, some awesome punkers in Portland volunteered to be test pepper spray subjects for the Black Cross [Health] Collective….
launching years of empirical research.
The initial “winner” (mineral oil/rubbing alcohol – don’t try this at home) was wiped away by the current standard:
50% liquid Maalox (not simethicone)/50% water
for skin, mucous membranes, “naughty bits”….even used in eyes.
Bone appetit!
Heh, it is a leap year…! ;-)
106 has Uffizzi gallery in the background getting a facelift.
What a great testimony to the arts Michealanelo Donatelli and on and on and on…even the building is a beautiful art work with the covered walks around the inside of each floor with hanging plants and sculpture Fung Shui. Northern Italy is just magnifico life style and all except smog. Thanks for the pics. The dog marches in all the communist parades?
Aloha, wobbly!
birthday cake

oops – g’nite, nahant!
I spent three days in Uffizzi.. with breaks in between the days to allow everything to soak in as much as possible.. I must say, I think of the Peggy Guggnheim collection in Venezia as much as any other in I saw in Italia.
Aloha, Doc and nahant!
g’nite nahant
g’nite kirk
I haven’t done an immersion music night for awhile but right now I am listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Walter Trout, Lucinda Williams & Keith Secola. Also Trapped, Bruce Springsteen. I don’t know why I don’t do this more often. It’s good for the soul.
time for me to start in on doing the windows and then waxing floors… g’nite all
nite nahant, kirk, suz
Oh it gets better, brother or sister wigwam — Sequoia is currently in the middle of bring hostiley taken over… by another US e-voting company!… that would have more market share than any other vendor!! Talk about frickin’ Hmm, the Brad Blog is a veritable treasure trove.
My only regret when i was on the continent was I didn’t get a chance to see Italy, I saw Paris, London, Benelux, Switzerland, Austria and Germany… I had a tour to Florence, bought and paid for, but, Reagan decided to bomb Qadafi and Libya and my leave got pulled…! 8-(
Night Suz, sweet dreams. And not of brooms and mops neither!
Aloha, Suz! Mahalo again for your assistance, btw, your voice has that command authority that I wouldn’t want to deal with if you walked up to my car window…! *g*
You settle on any particular area here, Hmmm? I know you were looking…!
I am gong to have to learn how to link.
Are You Lonely For Me Baby, Buddy Guy
Perfect time! What kinda system ya on?
Friends, IMHO, we’ve got a problem.
As you probably recall from my go-rounds with various peters, I’m not a fan of Obama.
But, IMHO, Clinton is a neocon as witnessed by her contributors (e.g., Haim Saban), her advisors (e,g, Michael O’Hanlon), her Israel rating at Haaretz (7.5), her vote on the Kyl-Lieberman Bill, and her multiple recent “obliterate Iran” suggestions.
Also, McCain is even more of a neocon for most of the same reasons.
Neocons will appoint yet more neocons to the supreme court.
Therefore, in spite of my gripes with Obama, he’s my man! Let’s get him elected.
Ah, the moving plan is a little more aspirational than operational for the time being, CT. I’d do it but for the people in my life who’d miss me (family & The Sweetie) because they can’t move away, at least not yet. But North Kona or Hamakua are where I look, when I look. Pele been a little nicer to you lately, ya?
I was an Edwards man before he dropped out, now I’m a local delgate for Obama!
OK
Yes, OK. Now there’s just that pesky little matter of the voting machines to deal with.
Occasionally, we get inundated with her vog, usually it blows over to the kona-side…!
Sounds like a plan.
CTuttle@325:
I have had way too many brewskies for a lesson now, LOL. Maybe another time. My comprehension level isn’t the best sober! btw, anyone ever heard Keith Secola, He is an Iron Range native american now in the southwest, bluesy rock. I have had the luck to see him perform in a small local movie theatre preceding by a loca; native american drum ceremony.
Several Keith songs on youtube.
Hitting the wall in the Ozarks..
G’nite fabulous dogs
Friends. I truly wish that Obama were one of us. I recognize that he’s not, but now to me he seems so damn much closer than Hillary. Her obliterate-Iran stuff really tore it for me. Yes. Yes. I’m sure she’d appoint much, much better folks to SCOTUS. And so, in spite of my constant insistance that I’m holding my vote hostage; yes, of course, she’d have my support (with tears in my eyes).
nite eureka
Thanks ES. I have most of his stuff since he is orignially a local. Now listening to This is The Time of Your Life, Little Steven, one of my favorites.
Agreed.
And one more thing – I think Senator Clinton’s familiarity with the Executive bureaucracy is a very good think in her favor, but the use of that familiarity is even more important.
I’d give over to Senator Obama almost completely if he had just one more advantage over McCain, and a fluent knowledge with that massive and byzantine White House bureaucracy would do just fine…
Yeah, his willingness to reach across the aisle scares the Hell out of me, but I’m quite certain that I like the devils he may make deals with more than those of Senator Clinton.
Aloha, ES!
Time to turn in, The Sweetie is home. Sweet dreams to all ye Firepups.
newtonusr & wigwam: agree here. I have to go with the best of the bunch on the surface & hope for the best.
Aloha, hmmm…! I shall bow out too! Aloha Oe!
nite humm & tuttle
i’m out as well
somebody has to sleep
Everyone is in bed, east to west coast!?
Not me
Hey, Raven -
Tho’ you and the pups are probably off to the coffee shop right about this time.
Good morning Waccamaw, Raven, pups,
out the door with the dog, but here’s the lineup for Washington Journal:

8:00 am – Michael Geisen, 2008 National Teacher of the Year
8:30 am – Scot Paltrow, Conde Nast Portfolio Magazine, Staff Writer — Article
9:30 am – Newspaper Articles & Viewer Calls
Good Morning everyone.
I had a different take on that. I think what she was trying to do is stop the arms race in the ME. As in, ‘everyone stop trying to build a nuclear bomb and we will promise to protect you’. If this is used with some real diplomacy, it might be a good thing. Of course, I’ve been wrong before but it beats waiting for a nuclear reactor to be built and then bombing the hell out of the place.
Good Morning everyone.
Ahhhhh, there you are! Made your Reuben Casserole yesterday lunch for the three guys who are replacing my deck and, based on the quantity consumed, they liked it. I loved it! Made a few twicks [sp?] here and there but definitely a keeper. Many thanks!
You’re so welcome! I’m glad it was a success. It is a very tasty dish. I enjoyed it a lot, perhaps I’ll make it again before the weather gets too warm.
good morning, all. It’s cool, cloudy and damp in my end of Upstate New York. We had a little rain last night. On my list of ‘to do’ this morning is to attend the first farmer’s market of the season. This is a new one, being held this summer in a large city park that is not too far from me. Vendors range from baked goods and granola to eggs, meat, plants, etc. I am told that the first greens of the season are a couple of weeks away, but it’s worth it to go and support everyone.
Left out the mayo and used prepared mustard instead. Other than that, it’s *really* one of those taste test recipes….depending on the ingredient, add a bit more of one thing and a little less of another. Would make a great “bring a dish” for get-togethers if you had one of those contraptions that keep things warm.
Good morning pups. It’s Collins and Herbert today. La Collins discusses the gas tax holiday in an “Indiana Holiday,” and suggests that on Tuesday we root for the Democrat whose vision of the political process comes closest to matching our own. Mr. Herbert’s column is titled “Overkill and Short Shrift,” and he says race is like pornography in the U.S. — the dirty stories and pictures that everyone professes to hate but no one can resist.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are all ready, and in honor of the blackberry canes we found trying to grow through an overgrown azalea by the driveway (really!) I’ve got waffles with fresh berries. There’s also syrup or honey butter if you prefer. Have a great day.
Marion – the best blackberries we ever had was after we had a fire in our back pasture. Everyone was burned right down to the ground in January; by spring, the canes were up and growing like fury and the berries were as big as your thumb in July. I wouldn’t try the same technique now.
What’s on my mind this afternoon is that your forces carried out and airstrike on Sadr City hospital. We’re covering it in both Arabic and English as we get details.
Erdla
Oh that’s a great idea with the mustard. I love mustard on my Rubeuns. Anytime I make a recipe for the first time, I always follow it to the t, then I make it my own so to speak.
It is exactly as you say, a taste test recipe. It may be on my menu for Sunday now that I’m tempted with your mustard suggestion.
I’m so sorry to hear that. But I fundamentally do not understand what the U.S. thinks it’s trying to accomplish in Sadr City. Does it really thnk it can get rid of Sadr’s forces by bombing civilians?
I’m not seeing the logic of doing this; healthcare services in Iraq are in a horrible state as it is because of what we have done there. What is the use of killing more civilians?
Hey, pups, whazzup? Are the ladies of the lake all sleeping in today?
Spring cleaning this weekend, but I definitely plan to stop back for Arianna’s visit. Hers is a must-read blog for me.
Just did a little post at my place of Musts for the weekend. Highly recommend Bob Herbert’s column in this morning’s NYT. Will be interesting to see if Russet shows any sign of having read it when Obama visits MTP tomorrow.
And did you see that 60 Minutes will interview Mary Tillman who says the govt is still lying about the death of her son, Pat Tillman.
Much happenin’ this weekend!
Prairie: Musts
I’m really sorry about this, and thank you for telling us the truth.
GorillaGuides, I’ve never noticed your posts before. Where are you?
Thank you for letting us know …
Appalling!
There are no other words.
America has no soul, nor heart, nor conscience.
Erdla – thank you for the sad news, we will try to spread the word of this latest outrage.
