Hillary spokesperson Howard Wolfson confirms to me that she's going on Fox News' O'Reilly Factor tomorrow night.
This has the potential to infuriate the netroots more than Obama's interview with Chris Wallace, because O'Reilly is obviously an unrepentant Dem-sliming, Dem-despising hard-right ideologue, while Wallace at least tries to keep up the pretense that he's working for a legit news organization.
Right now, I'd say I'm more mystified than infuriated.
...[A] senior adviser to Hillary, asked whether she'd be taking on O'Reilly in some fashion, said, on condition of anonymity:
"That's not the plan."
Okay, now I'm infuriated.
I just don't get this. Obama makes the mistake of legitimizing Fox News, and Hillary's reaction is, "Damn, why didn't I think of that? I cannot allow a Fox News gap! I must appear on Fox immediately, with someone even more hateful and vile! Get me Bill O'Reilly, stat!"
Like being interviewed on the official network of the Republican party is some kind of brilliant political strategy. Like it's a great idea to make them look like A Serious News Network That Serious People Take Seriously.
I had hoped that maybe, just maybe, the Democratic candidates finally "got it" when they boycotted the Fox-CBC debates, but obviously not. Hopefully Hillary will at least watch the video above before she goes on, or maybe some Howard Dean interviews.
