I’m great, but my computer is a piece of junk. It works fine all day, then when I come to FDL at night it takes forever to load or refresh a page, and Digg doesn’t like it at all…
OH god yes then bury it… DEEP It has seen better days… I just got rid of several computers that were far younger!
But of course I get a new one every couple of years…. It might be OK for Linux though!
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. forces fought their biggest battle in a month against dozens of Shi’ite militants attacking a Baghdad checkpoint under cover of dust storms and killed 45 in 24 hours of clashes, officials said on Monday
So the US got their limit of shia today– sunni season starts in a week- be sure ta get yer doe tags.
Almost every day I am impressed with the posts at FDL, but although a number of posts were very good today, in my opinion today’s posts were less than one might have hoped for. Specifically, I think the posts on Wright were not as grounded in the realpolitik as they needed to be.
I can’t see a dime’s worth of difference between the two dems- the only issue is who is most likely to beat McBush- startin ta look like Hillary has an edge- but I can wait for a month to decide that.
Some say that Obama is a morally superior politician to Hillary- I’m not buyin that shit- it’s too much like sayin that one rapist has a bigger heart than another.
I like how we always report that it’s 45 dead criminals or militia men, it’s never innocent women or children killed… And it is usually innocents killed…1 A fricking disgrace…!
I think in the next 72 hours Obama is going to have to do something about Reverend Wright. What he decides to do, how he carries it off and reaction to it are going to be critical.
I think Indiana is now probably lost.
Statistically, Hill would have to win out by 70% to Obama’s 30% in all the remaining contests to overtake Obama… It’s not gonna happen folks! At the convention, it could be taken away from Obama by the Supers, but, that would cause a huge schism in the party…!
it’s just that rape is a seriously violent crime that devastates its victim and leaves them never the same. so to use this violent crime to frame some political point is tasteless.
But if we get to June 4th and Obama is losin to McBush by fifteen points in Ohio and Pennsylvania- and Clinton’s up ten in the same states- well then that’s different for the superdelegates isn’t it? The main thing the superdelegates don’t want is to shake the hand of president McBush.
I think the good side of all of this is if Obama perseveres, it will be much better for all Dems to have this out of the way. At least the initial blow X 2 is out of the way now. Each following attack will have far less impact and become more tiresome for more reasonable people.
But, not the ‘elected/pledged’ delegates, and I agree if McInsane does have a sizable margin the Supers could shift the balance to Hill, but, that would only be a ‘nuclear option’ and they’d better weigh it very carefully….!
One thing that does bolster my hopes for a Dem Prez, is the phenomenal turnout for the Dems in all the caucuses and primaries, and in many states it was 2:1 turnout compared to the Repug turnout…!
But that doesn’t address the immediacy issue.. I guess “immediacy” should have been included in my question.
I have been thinking for a couple of weeks, he needs to write a few Obama special speeches.. my favorite topic du jour would be the constitution. Sort of the same manner as Gore’s speech a couple of years ago.
certainly when you factor in the scotus decision on voter id, we need to be able to counter this with something (absentee balloting, etc.) we can’t let this supress our voters in the fall
Gallup Poll National Obama 47, Clinton 46 Obama 45, McCain 45… Clinton 47, McCain 44 Also Only 33% Say McCain Has Clear Plan to Solve U.S. Problems Rasmussen Reports National Obama 49, Clinton 41 Obama 46, McCain 46… McCain 47
It’s a damn good time to go on the attack for Obama—try to sheepdip McBush in the 100 year issue- over and over and over again until the media HAS to talk about it
Fmr. Vice Pres. Gore Speech on Executive Powers (CSPAN video link)
The American Constitution Society and the Liberty Coalition host a speech by Fmr. Vice Pres. Al Gore at the DAR Hall in Washington. Gore speaks about the limits of executive power, the issue of monitoring domestic communications and the authorization of the use of torture in the war against terrorism.
1/16/2006: WASHINGTON, DC: 1 hr. 5 min.
If and when it’s Obama vs McCain… Obama will clean up, imo. I worry about Hillary trying to out flank McCain in neo-con speak. Clintons run to the right, not to the middle or left.
Well any competent politician tries to take the middle away from their opponent. Obama has tried to do that as well. McBush will try to paint Obama as a leftist radical if they are the candidates- and Obama will try to paint McCain as a rightwing warmongering nut case who’s too old to take a crap without a nanny..
Obama Adds to Distance From Pastor and Opinions
WILMINGTON, N.C. — If it was not clear before Monday, Senator Barack Obama said, it should be clear now: His presidential campaign has no control over what the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., his former pastor, says or what he does.
Yes, floored everyone who watched it… The lake loved it! I remeber it so well because I had just discovered FDL in time to enjoy it with the pups (though I didn’t comment yet due to intimidation). I think the threads hit 80 comments a couple of times on that day..)
Tax Rebates in $168 Billion Stimulus Plan Begin Arriving in Bank Accounts
The federal government began issuing electronic tax rebates on Monday under a $168 billion program to bolster the economy.
That was what I was thinking and seeing, as of Moyer’s program on Friday night.
I watched none of the stuff that was on Sat, Sun, or today. Tonight, however, KO had a lot of clips from the past three days that seemed to show that Wright was not so all that happy with Obama, and was being a bit assertive about it. KO’s guests, Richard Wolffe and Dana Milbank and even Rachel seemed to generally agree with KO’s characterization.
Maybe I’m still swayed by his performance on Moyers, but, I thought he did an admirable job at the NPR meeting, considering the questions that were asked! I coulda sworn that ‘When did you stop beating your wife’ was asked at least twice… 8-(
WILMINGTON, N.C. – If it was not clear before today, Senator Barack Obama said, it should be clear now: his presidential campaign has no control over what the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., his former pastor, says or does.
“I think certainly what the last three days indicate is that we’re not coordinating with him, right?” Mr. Obama said. “He’s obviously free to speak his mind, but I just want to emphasize that this is my former pastor. Many of the statements that he has made both to trigger this initial controversy and that he’s made over the last several days are not statements that I’ve heard him make previously. They don’t represent my views and they don’t represent what this campaign is about.”
At a hastily called news conference on the tarmac of the airport here, with the engines of his campaign plane buzzing in the background, Mr. Obama briefly responded to questions for the first time about Mr. Wright’s speech today to the National Press Club.
[…]
Emphasis mine.
It sounds like things are going down hill fast between Obama and Wright. But that might just be the media spinning things for maximal controversy.
ta da!
ES!
Eureka!
Evening all
Eureka!
Alela Diane is a gift!
I’m glad LLN came along. I was tired of looking at that smug Scalia mug on Late night.
A real treasure, I thought. Glad you liked her too, amigo.
Of course she has a modest web page.
Yep. It’s love alright.
Digg itt!
Neuro here is your Digg
How are you doing tonight Neuro!!
You have it down,,,,….. great!
I’m sure Jane is on the edge of her seat right now. The Nuggets are trying to keep her beloved Lakers from sweeping them.
I’m great, but my computer is a piece of junk. It works fine all day, then when I come to FDL at night it takes forever to load or refresh a page, and Digg doesn’t like it at all…
Is it just me, or was the entire body of FDL work particularly amazing today? A couple of times i just had to sit back a marvel at it all.
Who’d a thought these two legends would’ve crossed paths…
Buy a new one!! How long have you had it??
Linky no worky!!
lakers win 107 to 101
It’s 6 1/2 years old. Should I take it out behind the barn and shoot it?
Oops, I’ll try again…
Yep.
Scarecrow!
That one did it.
Thanks tuttle!
ES, how’s the water levels doing in your AO?
OH god yes then bury it… DEEP It has seen better days… I just got rid of several computers that were far younger!
But of course I get a new one every couple of years…. It might be OK for Linux though!
Much better and a good choice!! :< )</p>
Almost low enough to break out the kayak! I am running a month behind this year due to high water.
No more rain forecast for the foreseeable future…? ;-)
Here’s the latest from Iraq:
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. forces fought their biggest battle in a month against dozens of Shi’ite militants attacking a Baghdad checkpoint under cover of dust storms and killed 45 in 24 hours of clashes, officials said on Monday
So the US got their limit of shia today– sunni season starts in a week- be sure ta get yer doe tags.
OT: Thanks for that citation of Stevens downstairs. I’d been too pissed off to read it all these past seven years.
Later this week, but one day shouldn’t cause a problem. ET’s snowstorm sent us cold weather.. heat on tonight.. air conditioning last week!
45 shia bagged in 24 hours. Sounds like a Cheney pheasant hunt with pen fed birds.
Almost every day I am impressed with the posts at FDL, but although a number of posts were very good today, in my opinion today’s posts were less than one might have hoped for. Specifically, I think the posts on Wright were not as grounded in the realpolitik as they needed to be.
If you dig through shit, sometimes you find something satisfying.
That was mine for 2000.
Yes, thanks.. that was a work of beauty.
So CT, about mfi’s comment on M&C, do you think it’s the intention of the two faced lying GOP to actually work with Iran now?
When people start to revere a candidate- as many do Obama- then there will be very little objective discussion.
Well, I agree they weren’t grounded in real politic..and it’s a very sad commentary on real politic… but much needs to be said.
I bet someone will hit the real politic nail on the head real soon.
After watching MSM today… Obama is in a LOT of trouble for sure.
They are both gifted pols trying to do what they can to get elected.
The next 72 hours are going to be make or break for Obama.
Are you kidding? But, the irony of ironies is that by continuing to keep Maliki propped up, that’s exactly what they’re doing…! Bastards…!
Next 72 hours? Because of Indiana?
Could be. And a damned shame, too.
The nonsense has crowded out the sense, and the whole Democratic primary comes down to between 72 and 96 hours.
Same here, ES.
Thank you for the music. I’m glad to see everyone here.
I like how we always report that it’s 45 dead criminals or militia men, it’s never innocent women or children killed… And it is usually innocents killed…1 A fricking disgrace…!
umm wow that is a rather shitty analogy ..rapist?
Yeah–total bullshit- as Mark Twain said- man is the only animal that blushes- or needs to.
Think politicians are WORSE?
I think in the next 72 hours Obama is going to have to do something about Reverend Wright. What he decides to do, how he carries it off and reaction to it are going to be critical.
I think Indiana is now probably lost.
hey there margot, how are you?
No but I have a problem with anyone equating anyone with a rapist. PERIOD it is insensitive
Agree that we’ve got two vets battlin for the title- the challenger always has a bigger job- and at the moment- that’s Hillary.
OK–let’s say burglars.
I think Indiana was an “L” for Obama from the beginning- but North Carolina is likely a big win- so he ends up nuetral.
Didn’t watch any TeeVee today- did the Wright issue make a big splash?
You are generally right, but for the moment Hillary just needs to stay out of the way.
Because Obama is gettin beaten up badly enough without her gettin her shots in?
Worried about a few things, but they are out of my control.
Raining here and I’m glad I didn’t plant the seeds yet, they’d be washed away!
it always seems that we worry most about those things that we can’t control
(((margot)))
You never want to get in the way of your opponent doing a belly flop.
And, yes, it made a very big Spllllllllllllasshhhhhhhhhh on TV today.
Sorry huge net boot here. Hi Margot..)
Statistically, Hill would have to win out by 70% to Obama’s 30% in all the remaining contests to overtake Obama… It’s not gonna happen folks! At the convention, it could be taken away from Obama by the Supers, but, that would cause a huge schism in the party…!
My gut all day was that it was very bad for Obama that Wright was out sayin anything at all. Sometimes these things die down quickly though.
It ain’t fair- of course- but these things usually aren’t.
it’s just that rape is a seriously violent crime that devastates its victim and leaves them never the same. so to use this violent crime to frame some political point is tasteless.
people can dream, can’t they? *g*
I agree with that math
But if we get to June 4th and Obama is losin to McBush by fifteen points in Ohio and Pennsylvania- and Clinton’s up ten in the same states- well then that’s different for the superdelegates isn’t it? The main thing the superdelegates don’t want is to shake the hand of president McBush.
I noticed on KO tonight, Hillary now has a lead in Supers.
OK- let’s say burglars.
I think the good side of all of this is if Obama perseveres, it will be much better for all Dems to have this out of the way. At least the initial blow X 2 is out of the way now. Each following attack will have far less impact and become more tiresome for more reasonable people.
i saw it the first time you typed it but still surprised at the rapists comment. done and over with now
But, not the ‘elected/pledged’ delegates, and I agree if McInsane does have a sizable margin the Supers could shift the balance to Hill, but, that would only be a ‘nuclear option’ and they’d better weigh it very carefully….!
Bob Herbert tears rev Wright a new one in his NYT op/ed for fuckin up the Obama campaign with his narcistic behavior.
like any good person, Wright won’t give a fuck what bob herbert says.
Yep. Right here.
So I am curious, what do you all think Obama can or should do?
That would be risky—but losin ta McBush is risky too. The polls at the time should dictate the decision.
One thing that does bolster my hopes for a Dem Prez, is the phenomenal turnout for the Dems in all the caucuses and primaries, and in many states it was 2:1 turnout compared to the Repug turnout…!
Well I’m no expert- but if I were in Obama’s shoes- I’d call up Wright and beg him to take a long vacation until the convention.
Yeah they really ought to win this thing- and if we hadn’t seen em fuck up so badly in the past, we’d probably be sanguine.
how do you think the independents will swing out this election? or rather break between us and the repugs?
Last Prez cycle, Hawaii had only about 5-6,000 turnout for the caucus, this cycle we turned out 37,000+…
people care about this election and they hate the goopers at the moment- only a case of public sepuku could lose it for the dems.
That about sums it up… The people are pissed…! And Four more years ain’t cutting it!
If you are suggesting changing the subject- that sounds like a splendid idea.
The attack on McBush may take up some oxygen for a while–the 100 year thing.
Actually, I think when Hill is no longer a distraction and it’s mano-a-mano, Obama will gain serious traction…!
Goopers aren’t going to want this issue to go quietly into that good night- so Obama is probably going to have to make some OTHER news to bury it.

Interesting topic for those of us who are fascintated with politics.
Bout time to hit the hay.
Night y’all

g’ nite, rwc.

Should be interesting if that’s the match.
Aloha—what a great state you live in.
night
I rather like it…! ;-)
Fucking great speech. It floored me. Gore was on fire.
The Grey Lady is reporting…
Yes, floored everyone who watched it… The lake loved it! I remeber it so well because I had just discovered FDL in time to enjoy it with the pups (though I didn’t comment yet due to intimidation). I think the threads hit 80 comments a couple of times on that day..)
Mods…(show text) is such ambiance..thank you it is a wonderful feature how is it done?
The checks are in the mail…
The way KO said it tonight: “Wright threw Obama under the bus.”
I disagreed somewhat with that… I thought the more that people saw Wright, the more it showed how Wright was taken out of context by the Repugs…!
I agree, but we are of minority opinion on this, clearly. Media is treating this like a thousand Dean screams.
That was what I was thinking and seeing, as of Moyer’s program on Friday night.
I watched none of the stuff that was on Sat, Sun, or today. I was a bit surprised to see Rachels reaction and couldn’t help but wonder if she was influenced by her new peers.
Hi bigbrother, it was a nice surprise to see that “show text.”
How are you?
Per the New York Times Politics Blog:
