According to this CJR report, regarding a series of studies from Health Care Week and other industry groups, the health care industry, drug manufacturers and other related industry groups are doing everything they can to insure there are no changes to their current profit margins:
The insurance companies, of course, think the system is just fine, and they spent heavily to keep the status quo. Health Plan Week, an insurance industry trade pub, took a hard look, revealing that overall health insurance payments to lobbyists soared last year and are likely to grow again in the next couple of years as health reform becomes the biggest issue. A large percentage of that money, the magazine found, was focused on the Medicare Advantage issue, which was front and center last year. Analyzing disclosure forms from the Senate’s public records office, Health Plan Week found that fifteen health plans paid lobbyists more than $22 million in 2007, up from $18 million in 2006, a hefty chunk of change by any measure. WellCare Health Plans, a big seller of Medicare Advantage products that has gotten in trouble with regulators for its questionable sales practices, quadrupled its spending to $320,000 and paid half of that amount to the Washington law firm to plead its case on Medicare issues. Health Net and Tufts Health Plan more than doubled their spending, while insurance biggies like CIGNA and UnitedHealth Group substantially increased their lobbying budgets. Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans spent nearly $10 million....
A press release just issued by the Center for Responsive Politics further reinforces the money and health care story. Its message: Special interests spent $17 million for every day Congress was in session, and the drug industry spent most of all, paying lobbyists 25 percent more than they did last year. Did Harry Reid forget to mention them? Drug companies spent some $227 million on lobbying activities. The insurance industry was right behind with $138 million, and not far down was the hospital and nursing home industry, which spent some $91 million. When the Center pulled apart spending by organization, Pharma, the American Medical Association, and the American Hospital Association ranked three, four, and five on its list of top spenders. It’s too bad that the Center’s latest numbers haven’t gotten more press. For they, too show, the rocky path ahead for health reform.
It’s easy for reporters and editors to dismiss yet another press release about gobs of money thrown at politicians and lobbyists. We’ve seen that before, they say; what else is new? And it’s easy to cop out and blame readers for stumbling over the big numbers anyway. But the big numbers tell a big story. It’s crucial to remind the public of the intersection of money, lobbyists, Congress, and the presidential candidates. “It’s a constitutional right to petition your government, but the average citizen is not doing this petitioning,” says Massie Ritsch, communications director for the Center for Responsive Politics. “The average person’s lobbyist is the elected official sent to Washington.” But, he adds, “Those officials are listening to the outsiders who are doing the petitioning.” The Constitution may guarantee lobbying, but it doesn’t say Congress has to listen to big money. The press needs to shine a light on just who is listening to whom.
Would that I were confident that the light would shine on this -- a big, fat spotlight. Because the folks waiting outside the gate in Knoxville, TN -- the 400 hundred Americans who got turned away from any care in the above YouTube -- they've got very little to hope for from a government that doesn't seem to care for them at all.
And if one of those folks who was turned away has some catastrophic contagion? Well, then I guess we're all in for a world of shit when it spreads around the country, aren't we?
You think just because you have health insurance that things are rosy for you? It's a small world, getting even smaller all the time as various pathogens fly around on airplanes from one continent to the next. That person coughing beside you on the subway or the bus or in that meeting this morning? If they don't have access to decent health care -- and they have a highly contagious nasty ick? That next superbug headline case could be yours.
Health care isn't just about prenatal care and cancer exams, although both are very important. It's also about vaccines and control of dangerous contagions. And we don't have a handle on any of this because we've put profit ahead of care (YouTube)...way ahead. Think it can't be you? Think again...

So, Christy!
Morning Ann! Trying to stay dry here this morning — pouring the rain down…
here’s the reason pay to play can’t work;
private industry’s very purpose will be to deny claims, their bottom line is all that matters
public health care’s purpose is to allow claims so the individual can become productive once again
it is better for the government when a person is healed and returned to productivity, a private company doesn’t care about productivity
in other words, private industry once again externalizes their costs, when they don’t return a person to productivity do they pay the lost revenue they caused to the state?
no they don’t pay for that lost revenue, you and I pay for it
they are in fact taking our tax dollars when they deny a claim, they are also in fact saving money, making more profit but all of that comes by externalising their expense
that’s what’s missing in this debate, nobody is pointing out government gets a positive return when it heals a person back to productivity and private industry gets a negative return
and oh, off topic but maybe something for a later post, think progress has for us a fitz fix;
“Everything’s fine,” McCain told reporters during a news conference. “Like most Americans, I go see my doctor fairly frequently.”
http://www.politico.com/…
Ok now just who is an Elitist?
Even doctors are coming around. They used to oppose anything that looked like “socialized medicine”, but it’s really the only way out of this mess.
Two kinds of Americans. The first are those that take the time to educate themselves on what is going on in the country and the world. The other are those that take the pablum that the corporate media doles out. In other words, suckers. The suckers just can’t get it around their heads that other countries do in fact do things better than the U.S.. Health care is a perfect example.
OT but Nov 9, 2005 Judy Miller resigned but still kept her Pulitzer! On Nov 11, 2005 the NY Times stock was worth $29.22 today its worth $20.58 as of now.
http://finance.google.com/finance?q=NYSE:NYT
Judy has cost her old employer almost one third of its cash, oh and the Time’s integrity.
When does Congress plan on the investigation? First comes the “strongly worded letters.” I’m guessing in Congress will get around to the investigation in 2010.
good point
I have a story to tell though.
one of my best friends, a childhood friend is/was a chiropractor
once rolling in money he now had to close his office after trying everything to stay opened, now he is a salesman
he blames hillary, no matter what I tell him, how I show to him hillary did nothing and all his woes come from the republics, he still blames hillary “for opening the door” to socialized medicine
it is a rediculous position but he blames the fall of his industry on hillary’s health care program during the clinton administration
I have to agree with you, their investigations mean nothing, they find criminal activity, they issue warrants, the warrants are ignored and they drop the lead
I am really really pissed with pelosi and whoever else is repsonsible for jailing criminals who defy subpeona.
why isn’t meyers in friggin jail?
I’ve been sucked into the vortex. My last insurance plan worked out very well. Never a problem, now every invoice is a problem with same charges from the same provider being processed in different ways to be denied payment. Which means it has to be appealed, which could take up to 60 days, all the more time it takes for my care provider to get paid.
And get this, there was a week when the coverage was lapse due to my employer’s fault, they were aware of it, and didn’t let people know there was a problem with coverage. The only way I knew was a EOB stating there that I chose to end my coverage. My employer has promised to get this reprocessed, whoppee. A little heads up would’ve been much appreciated.
This is very telling. I went to them about the problems with processing the claims, and they went through the motions to act like they cared. I thought they did until I found out about that lapse in coverage.
Physicians for a National Health Care Program (PNHCP)
and how many readers?
I was a habitual reader of the ny times, now I can’t even bring myself to click the link and the only times articles I read are those that are linked by a progressive blog
Is it just my good looks or am I the only person getting Deals on price from Doctors, Dentists, Chiropracters by paying cash and not using insurance.
Something about getting paid with no delay my UPS insurance took months to pay for my glasses and the eye Dr was calling my house before they finally paid.
That and cash means less paper work to deal with the insurance companies lack of ability to pay without a fight.
I have a cash deal with a provider, and I know another provider who only deals in cash.
Readers and advertisers thats why the Times is losing money despite war coverage driving sales.
but what kind of deal is that?
you are paying an expense out of pocket that should be payed by your employers and your benefactors
the government benefits from our health and it gives positive return when they return us to productivity
plus your place of bussiness has to maintain it’s equiptment and it’s work force to stay in bussiness
health care really should not be the laborers expense
The money is a big deal. Just ask the credit card companies how much money they spent lobbying the 2005 Bankruptcy Amendments.
I am predicting a murdoch take over within 7 years.
Bankruptcy “reform” must be rescinded plain and simple
How does that work for you? My sister told me about a dentist in Illinois who prefers so much to work on immigrants because they pay cash that he will stay open late for emergencies for immigrants but not if the person has insurance because its not worth his time.
My primary care physician has stopped working with the insurance companies. Too big a head ache and it compromised the health of his patients.
Marcy’s been all over that — and is again this morning at emptywheel…
here’s a news flash…not
raw story
I’m self employed retired Perris I invest from home 2 or 3 times a year I decide to buy something or sell something.
*goes to say hi to marcy*
And now for this morning’s “what the fuck is she wearing:” I give you Kelly Osborne. Can anyone explain to me why a person would go outside in this knowing that people would take photos of it? I’m baffled…
It’s fine to be honest. With all the headaches and hassles it takes to get these EOB straightened out, time is money. It’s really not much more then the co payment, and my provider doesn’t have any paperwork or overhead, so it’s more efficient for him. He gets paid for services right away.
The other provider I know, does a honor system. He’s a chiropractor, so people put cash in a box and that’s it. He doesn’t need a person to process anything, and he gets all of the money for his salary and overhead.
I’m self employed also, and a good portion of us are today
there must be a mix between single payer and individual expense for people like ourselves
one of the expenses that have to be overcome when we work for ourselves but to be fair, the government will loose productivity and revenue if they do not keep us healthy and the revenue they gather from us must be used to subsidize our health care
That long this stock is so bad the price would go up if the family that runs the Times would get another inbred slackjaw to run it.
Anytime you can say a stock would go up if they fired the boss stay away even if it is trading at historic lows!
So nice that he’s able to; too bad I can’t. My specialists include a pulmonary doctor and a cardiologist. Both want to see me every two to three months. I’ve recently realized that I simply cannot afford to see them that often. It’s been about 6 months or so since I’ve seen my cardiologist and at least 3 months for the pulmonary doc. It’s because it costs me $35 for each visit, and sometimes more if they require tests. Each 2nd tier prescription costs me $39 for a total of $156/mo for the drugs I need. It’s now becoming a choice between food and drugs.
I was wondering if they pay Lawrence O’donnell lobbying fees. He was on Chris Matthew’s show this weekend (I think it was that show? I believe it was the “Tell me something I don’t know” segment.) and he boldly said that there will not be a health care system legislated next year regardless of what those running for President tell you because we simply cannot afford it. So glad he can pronounce it dead before the votes are all counted!
the family has to realize why their publication has lost ground
if they want to blame the internets then they are dooned, if they understand it was their integrity, thingks like judy miller and hiring an inept mouthpiece for the government who is always wrong like krystol
if they realize the real reasons they have lost ground and made the proper adjustments they have a chance
if they think they have no chance they will sell to the highest bidder
murdoch
I saw that — and there was no follow-up as to supporting information on that, either. I get that Iraq and other budget issues are way, way over, but shouldn’t people at least have to show their math or give supporting information from sources rather than just throwing out a wild-arse guess and then moving on to the next one without anyone even cocking an eyebrow?
she has a face on her crotch
that’s a bad thing?
My primary care physician has stopped working with the insurance companies. Too big a head ache and it compromised the health of his patients.
How many Dr’s prefer cash? How many Dr’s have stopped working with insurance companies because it compromised the health of patients?
We need real numbers. We need testimonials from Dr’s on TV explaining this issue. We need Michael Moore’s “Sicko ” on Network TV before the election!
Doctors and dentists in this area Mi, charge almost twice as much for cash payments by individuals as compared to insurance coverage. They won’t accept lower insurance adjusted costs estimates if paid by patients.
I was confused by the hooded dickie portion of the ensemble. Very confused. But the face on the crotch was also in the running for oddity of the day…
Supremes just upheld voter ID law.

Citizen Hardin Smith and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Thanx for the post…I needed that this mornin’ ‘cuz I ran out of sharp sticks with which to poke out my eyes. Now that Rev. Wright has turned the attack on the Black Church back on the corporate media, can we now start talkin’ about our economic crisis in terms of the “end of capitalism” as we have come to know and fear it?
“Crisis Capitalism” and its attendant “politics of fear” have transferred so much of the lifeblood of common citizens to the corporate body politic that neither can survive in the same form. This transfusion of wealth has been accomplished through the filter of the war in Iraq and the United States treasury and has left the country at the mercy of the bloated corporate monster and it’s taxpayer subsidized mercenary army. Health care and the healthcare system that is left to secure the health of the few is ready to collapse…as one who works full time inside that system, I see the contradictions of the public economies like healthcare in our capitalist system and I am here to tell you that the entire system is bankrupt. The speed at which the remainin’ wealth is bein’ drained from the public has accelerated such that the entire structure will collapse before this November and no amount of “tweaking” of the system will save it even for the few that have the money to pay for care.
Now that Rev. Wright has exposed the lies and coordinated assault of the corporate media on the Black Church and we have continued the new “conversation about race” that the corporatists sought to stifle, can we now use the impending collapse of the healthcare structure in our country to have a good old fashioned debate about the end of our predatory economic system?
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION THESE BASTARDS AREN’T GOIN’ OUT UNLESS WE CARRY ‘EM!!
so I think this is it;
she has a dicky near her face and a face near her crotch
I don’t know if that’s it but it plays nicely
Have you tried Mexico or Belize for healthcare? Mexico is closer which is good if your not retired but Belize is more stable and they speak English.
Healthcare is cheaper drugs are cheaper and if you really need expensive American medicine you can fly back.
Its cheaper though to see a Dr regular than just go in when you can’t ignore a problem anymore.
Me I’m thinking of Belize if McCain
winssteals the election.Just got this in my in-box: The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is pushing a “cover the uninsured” event this week to talk about how shoddy health care coverage is.
My father was an eye doctor. He worked alone - he did not have a receptionist, a nurse or an assistant. He was one of those guys who stuck his head out the office door and yelled, “Next”. He did all of his work for insurance and disability at night, on his own. He planned to work as long as he could, but the paperwork for the insurance companies just drove him nuts and fighting with them to try to get paid was worse, so he retired. And THAT was in the 1970s.
Why is that are they getting a taste from the insurance companies?
Well, her father bit a bat (the flying kind), so she comes by it naturally.
It’s like that most everywhere except maybe the Twilight Zone.
I have heard that from so many doctors and folks who work for them — that the paperwork takes up so much more of their practice these days than actually practicing medicine. Sad, that…
Don’t forget that it is the unisured that get the shaft. A couple of months ago I had to be taken to the emergency room and then spent three days in the hospital. The bill came just a bit over twenty five thousand dollars. Hospitals have to charge these rates to make up for the screwing they get from the insurance companies.
Rupert is not doing that well either Newscorp stock split on Nov 3 2004 on Nov 5 2004 the price was $17.76 todays price $17.76?
http://finance.google.com/finance?q=NYSE%3ANWS.A
No growth in four years despite buying the Wallstreet Journal and when Rupert dies that stock is going down fast.
With a elected government made up of primarily rich people who then get really great free government health care, it’s difficult to get the government to even pretend to care about the rest of us.
The YouTube up top is worth a watch if you have the time this morning, gang — it’s heartbreaking, but definitely worth a watch…
I believe the average newspaper reader is 60 years old, that is not good for any business.
Will Rupert ever die?
Sad to say and sorry to tell you, Perris, but your friend is a fool. I have proof; he blames the current health care system on a program that was never adopted, not by congress, not by the executive branch, not by anyone. But it’s so much easier than blaming himself for his own incompetence at running his business.
I also have a story of sorts. Back in the seventies my son (at the age of 18) went to work for a doctor in a side enterprise (of the investment sort.) The doctor had purchased a small publishing firm and catalog sales business (they sold books and camping and outdoors type of equipment). Doc became a close friend and mentor to my son (get your minds out of the gutter; Doc has no kids of his own and informally “adopted” mine) he sent him thru college and they became partners in the business until my son was in his mid-thirties when they sold the business (due to financial stesses.) They are still close friends and my son is still working in the publishing industry. He has had the opportunity to travel the world and it has been an entirely good thing for my son.
Meanwhile, Doc has had his practice for years, but a few years ago, he sold it to a clinic or hospital with the provision that he would remain as the doctor. Recently the entity that bought the business notified the doctor that they were going to rescind the purchase agreement. Doc basically repossessed his business and went thru some rough times (apparently due to problems involving payments from medicare) reestablishing his business as a profitable industry, and is now running it himself again. His time is not his own anymore (once again), but the business is fine. That’s why I think the problem is more with your friend’s business acumen than with Hillary’s failed attempt at health care repair.
Well why are some of us getting deals then?
After the way the arguments were reported, I can’t say that comes as a shock. But there are going to be long-term repercussions from that nonetheless. Will take a peek — thanks for the heads up…

Citizen HelplessDancer:
“Don’t forget that it is the uninsured that get the shaft.”
No it isn’t, It’s EVERYONE who gets the shaft because the deductables and cost transfers inside the system transfer costs to INSURED folks that are increasingly difficult to pay.
We are at the end of predetory capitalism in this country and the healthcare industry is jest the best example for people to understand the magnitude of the crisis.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, WE WON’T GET OUR COUNTRY BACK WITHOUT A FIGHT!!
I want to be clear, I believe you. But where does the money go? How is it possible, a small room, 1 nurse for every 6 patients and one nurse’s aide for every 6 patients.
Well, think about it this way - my dad had the choice of doing all the paperwork and phone calling himself…or hiring an office assistant to do it. At that point, he’d have to do more surgery or other work to not only put bread on our table, but on the assistant’s table too. And he couldn’t ask the assistant to do medical work, right? So, he’d have to hire an optimetric assistant to do more glasses and Rx’s for that, to increase THAT revenue stream..and that person would have to generate not only enough revenue to support the office assistant doing all the insurance work, but to pay him or herself a decent wage as well. My father saw this as a never-ending spiral. And, as someone who had seen his father go into bankruptcy twice and have to lay off a whole fur-coat making operation in the 1930s, and what that had meant to the people who had worked for my grandfather - the pattern maker and the office manager/model(who did the books AND modeled the coats for the buyers), and the sewing machine operators and the shipping guy and on and on. My father said that he could never bring himself to add one more person to his office unless he could insure that he could keep that person employed. So he never did. But when you look at medical offices now, you see how they have ended up where they are - they started with the first person they needed to do all that paperwork.
They could get younger readers if they got good writers reading bobo brooks at the Times is hard even when I’m only reading him to rip on him.
I’m sure he is getting fresh organs transplanted into his rotting frame even as we speak but sooner or later.
Yep — exactly. Our pediatrician’s office has full-time staffers that do nothing but billing interface for them. And I’m sure they contract it out as well. It’s such a mess.
To tell you the truth, I don’t have any idea where the money goes. I might mention though, that this was the government subsided county hospital.
I know he is a fool and I will link him to your post
They could but they don’t, my “newspaper” is owned by Gannett and runs George Will and Robert Novak, I want to burn my newspaper!
Know the family and yes, they are aware of the challenges facing their business. There is real (young) talent in the family (agree about Pinch) but the newspaper business is very daunting in today’s world.
It’s impossible to overstate the family’s commitment to maintaining their ownership of the paper. They consider the “Times” to be a sacred trust in the public’s service.
They will not sell to Murdoch.
Deals come in unsuspecting packages.
Here’s what I don’t get; this is not a single payer system they’re proposing. The government wants the insurance companies deeply involved, but I haven’t heard that they will be picking up the tab. Therefore, where are the massive costs to the government? We already have Medicare and Medicaid. Medicare pays the insurance premiums for my insurance; they do not pay 80% for each office visit. My part D has fairly high copays, but nowhere near as high as the cost of the drugs. Bean counters are still making some of the medical decisions. (I would much prefer a single payer system.) Why would it be so much more expensive than the current system for the government to step in and insist on bargaining some pricing relief and fixing some of the current problems that are making our current system unaffordable for so many Americans. And how is that O’donnell thinks we can afford NOT to do this!
fox lost billions and nothing turned a profit until they hired hannity
then their correct “prediction” that florida was called wrong by the polls and they started making money all around
now they make money not on people buying product but corporations paying them to promote whatever law that corporation wants this month
that’s how they make money now, they don’t sell enough product to pay their bills but the corporations that want to influence the electorate advertise on the program
murdoch’s dream is the times and if he has to sell his other concerns he would do it to own the ny times
it is hard to find how they could hire someone as completely incorrect as krystol
it’s fine and desireable to hire pundits from both sides, but not somebody who is so wrong about everything they are either a moron or a liar
OT - week’s hearing list is up. here are three of them:
wednesday
9 am - Senate Judiciary
To hold hearings to examine secret law and the threat to democratic and accountable government.
thursday
10 am - Joint Economic Committee
To hold hearings to examine how high food prices are impacting American families.
10 am - House Foreign Affairs
Joint Oversight Hearing: No Direction Home: An NGO Perspective on Iraqi Refugees and IDPs
I think the papers are trying to shape the debate by putting rightwing hack writers in the papers even if it causes them to lose money although it worked for Rupert.
But that was when voters were not paying attention to the issues they were fat and happy. A rightwinger could write crap and most people did not care because it did not affect them.
Today with gas at all time highs and food prices going up, well we may still be fat but were not happy.
The terrain of the battle has changed, the Right has not adjusted their tactics divide the races split the poor vote and conquer (Charles Gibson on ABC thinks your middleclass if you make $200,000? a year)
This disconnect between reality and the media is whats bringing people to the Lake.
christy–ygm titled ”i love it!!! thank you” and add to it that they scheduled him for tomorrow morning…..to talk about gardening, and i’m sure the farm bill will get mentioned…..thanks… : )
The conversion from US dollars to Bush dollars has proven to be a disaster.
now they make money not on people buying product but corporations paying them to promote whatever law that corporation wants this month
They might make money that way but its not showing up in their stock price. Heck given the state of the News industry today I would not be surprised if Rupert was inflating his numbers.
Regular people can’t make money off Rupert maybe insiders can.
Agree completely. They have made some real bonehead decisions about their op-ed pages. I’ve thought they were trying to be “all things to all people” — an approach that never works.
The family stays out of editorial decisions but am certain they have communicated their disappointment to Arthur Jr.
As you may know Medicare, Part D may have been dirty. Billy Tauzin sponsored the bill and then went to work for PhRMA for $2 million a year. Note, PhRMA is a Trade association and not a lobbying group, so he could start the day he left congress.
I believe as long as foxes are allowed to sit in on the discussion of the best way to protect the henhouse, we won’t see effective solutions, nor solutions that are good for Mr. and Mrs. Average American. Just my opinion.
Yep the rest of the world has gotten wise to Bush and Greenspan and now they want more dollars for food and oil.
I’m sure Bush intended for that to happen when a Democrat was President but it happened early and now he is getting credit for the economy he created.
Gee, and with no receipts given or any tracking of the money (so that you, for instance, can take the medical off of your taxes) whatever he receives is all tax free! It certainly appears that his patients are facilitating his being a tax evader! More like him is what makes us unable to afford a single payer health care system.
He could be honest, but that doesn’t mean he is honest!
Ding, ding, ding.
I think it’s win-win-win for Bush. The family trust funds have been growing rapidly since he took office. When the dollar finally rebounds, those funds will be even more valuable. He’ll strut around for the rest of his life claiming credit for anything good that follows him and deny that anything bad every happenned while he was Preznit.
Wesley Snipes got three years in jail for tax funny business.
TEWBRUF
Tax Evading While Black, Rich, Uppity, and Famous.
I want to take a look at Bush and Darth’s tax returns when Bush first became President and then take a look at Bush and Darth’s tax returns today and see if there was any growth when you adjust for inflation and the drop in the dollar.
I’m not so sure he made money.
1,826 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Let’s stop talkin’ around the problem…our economic system of predatory capitalism based on cheap raw materials and cheaper labor has accelerated to a speed at which none of the wealth generated in the system can be captured thru taxes to replenish the energy of those who create the wealth in the first place. The “public” economies like healthcare and education are broken and can’t be fixed or returned to anythin’ resemblin’ the old system because the entire economy is broken.
We may be able to address the central problem of a new economy through building a new single payer healthcare system…the problems attendant to gettin’ and fundin’ a functioning and EQUITABLE healthcare system will demand fundamental changes in the overall by we create and distribute wealth. But new, functioning and equitable healthcare system will not become a reality without changes in the entire economy.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, FIRST WE GOTTA GET RID OF THE THIEVES AND THEN WE GOTTA GET OUR MONEY BACK!!
From AmericaBlog
The dollar has fallen 30% versus the Euroe since April 2003.
Damm I tried to copy a link it didn’t work?
The stake holders in the status quo health care debacle will fight for their lives……
If the option is single payer- that terminates the existance of insurace companies- they will of course fight to the last penny.
If the option is a plan that shrinks their margins- they will fight unless they discover that the alternative is worse..
When they don’t KNOW what will happen- they’ll fight out of fear.
Expect a lot of bullshit from that quarter- can’t blame em-it’s life or death.
Neither Hillary nor Obama is really being too threatening though- they have devised incrementalist plans that most everyone can live with—not the best for america but perhaps the best that can pass congress.
I would be willing to pay less taxes and spend less money to get the Healthcare France has that covers everybody at less cost.
Just a drive-by to say thanks for the post and please Digg it! Let’s just call the health care coverage problem our biggest ‘homeland security’ issue. How many people die every year from lack of coverage?
Hillary and Obama tied nationwide according to Gallup
Obama and McBush tied.
Hillary beating McBush by three…
New numbers due out later today.
From the video, Stan Brock and his volunteer medical team treated about a thousand Tennessee area residents on a weekend. Turned away 450 more at closing time. Watching the video, I wondered how many were active Republican voters.
I once took care of a patient, and in the course of his stay a terminal cancer was discovered. We obtained an oncology consult, and I actually heard the physician explain that the patients life could be extended another 6-12 months with aggressive (palliative) chemotherapy… …if the patient could pay for it up front, as he had no insurance.
Chemo is anything but cheap, and my patient took the option left to him. He died.
