John McCain has written emails and letters to Linda Daves, the chairwoman of the North Carolina GOP, to implore her not to run this tasteless ad linking two gubernatorial candidates who support Barack Obama to his former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright.
Dear Chairman Daves,
From the beginning of this election, I have been committed to running a respectful campaign based upon an honest debate about the great issues confronting America today. I expect all state parties to do so as well. The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats. In the strongest terms, I implore you to not run this advertisement. This ad does not live up to the very high standards we should hold ourselves to in this campaign. We need to run a campaign that is worthy of the people we seek to serve. There is no doubt that we will draw sharp contrasts with the Democrats on fundamental issues critical to the future course of our country.
But we need not engage in political tactics that only seek to divide the American people.
Once again, it is imperative that you withdraw this offensive advertisement.
John McCain
Charlie Black, John McCain’s senior adviser and former lobbyist extraordinaire, first said that the "party would pull the ad" and then lectured reporters on the failure of the RNC to control the ads of state parties.
So, the question is: will the ad run on Monday? And will cable gasbags continue to run the ad as news, providing John McCain with headlines like CBS did: "Amid Negative Ads, McCain Claims High Road."
Republican Chairwoman Linda Daves of Charlotte, at the center of the controversy, said pulling the ad "has never been a consideration." She said the reaction received by the party is running 10-to-1 in favor of the ad.
Two North Carolina television stations have declined to run the ads — one of them is WRAL, where Jesse Helms got his start as a political commentator. Jesse Helms’ former megaphone has more power than John McCain — and more class, too.
Howard Dean released this statement:
‘This is a test of leadership for John McCain. If he can’t pick up the phone and make members of his own party stop airing a television ad he claims to oppose, how can he lead our country through an economic crisis or the war in Iraq? After shifting his positions on gun control, immigration and tax cuts throughout this campaign, McCain should not equivocate on this issue. Making a show of releasing your emails to the press is not leadership. If he is serious, he will get this ad pulled.’
Is John McCain powerless? Is he impotent?
Can he really not get the ad pulled? Or does he relish the controversy, sailing above the argument on the media-defined high-road?
Impotent? Or a sleazebag? Or both?

yoo hoo
I vote for both.
I lean with “weak and ineffective” myself. No big dif. :)
Hey Ted!
McCan’t is both powerless and impotent. And mean. And scary. And stupid.
Sen McCain was seen this morning buying a new suit. When asked why, he replied, “My doctor sez I’m impotent. Well, if I’m impotent, I’m gonna hafta look impotent.”
P.S. I don’t like him.
Must be an election year- politicians are lyin through their teeth in public.
I (heart) Howard Dean!
Alrighty then, someone needs to run an ad showing John McCrazy and Rev. Hagee and the words of Hagee being repeated over and over to show what a lunatic this man is and how he represents everyone in the republic party.
LOL Exactly.
I think you8 nailed it. This is simply a plan to put McCain on the high road. The ad will be pulled, but MSM will continue to run it as “news”. For free.
Brilliant, actually.
Boxturtle (start looking for Rove. This smells like him)
Or does he relish the controversy, sailing above the argument on the media-defined high-road
Correct, as usual, your majesty. (That’s a line from Mr. Rogers – no disrespect implied.)
Hey, this way, he gets the info out, and tries really hard to look good.
Sorry, I’m image sensitive this morning. I was very afraid to click on this post.
I’m not clear on why the North Carolina Republican Party finds it opportune to run and anti-Obama ad at this particular time.
I was pleased to see in today’s Sunday paper an article titled ”Candidate McCain now backs tax policies he once opposed” by WP’s Jonathan Weisman. This is the third article in the last couple of weeks in my local paper that shows McCain flip-flopping. I think some of the pressure on the media to discuss real issues is starting to sting them a bit.
Huckabee used similar tactics to get free publicity too. Must be a republic thing.
Georgie Will saw nothing wrong with the Willie Horton ad.
Hi Teddy,
this ad was the start off topic on To the Contrary, host Bonnie Erbe refused to show any of it.
They’d much rather run against Hillary in November and they knew this would get free national attention.
Boxturtle (A Karl-like creature would have MSM airtime all arranged)
He’s buying a new suit because the Ladies of the Lake said he looked like a frumpy old man the other day. ;-) He must read FDL. LOL
Has the NC goopers paid for even one ad run yet? It’s all been free “news” coverage.
I wonder how the Clinton campaign would explain it.
Remember the Casablanca cliche “I’m shocked…”? Well meet the equally corrupt John McAncient in the modern version
Won’t matter. He still won’t look as classy as Obama – not anyone else for that matter.
Good. The show doesn’t run here until late this afternoon, so I’ll record it.
((((( Mary ))))) That much is obvious … we’re not groggy enough to miss your message … *g*
((( Teddy )))
Or they figure Obama’s going to be the candidate as most do and are enjoying an opportunity to bloody him up…
DNC is going to start kicking the shit out of McBush also….
The campaign has begun….
I thought the same thing! Uh-oh, thinking like me can be dangerous.
After reading the title of this post, I could barely read it ’cause of all the wretching and shaking.
You made me think of John McCain’s penis, and I don’t know if I can forgive that.
McBush looks like someone hung him up by his arms and kicked the living shit out of him.
They don’t need to explain anything. They simply condemn the ad whenever asked and do what they can to keep it in the news.
Boxturtle (Same thing Obama would do, if positions were reversed)
No, I know they don’t need to unless someone asks them the question. It would have been nice if Howard Wolfson had been forced to contrive an answer today.
The primary season has about a month to go- and then it’s kick the shit out of goopers time—I love the smell of cordite in the morning!
If so, they struck too soon. this will be forgotten long before November.
Boxturtle (If this is the best they’ve got, November ain’t even gonna be close)
The Repugs only have negative ads in their playbook, Obama and the Dems are going to crush them on the voters’ registration strategy.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..98816.html
Here’s a link to the DNCs ad on McBush (100 years in Iraq).
It’s an equal opportunity blood letting.
Does Cindy know McBush is impotent?
Lets see… lets count how many times McBush refers to himself by “John McCain” like Bob Dole did…… [have heard this several times]
Lets see… will McBush be doing the little blue pill commercials for free media?
Hope so- I’ve read that in so MANY past elections that I am least a bit cautious about it.
Did anyone else watch Obama’s Fox appearance with Chris Wallace and thought, as I did, that Mike pressed a knee against his neck and said, “Don’t F*ck this up, son !!!”
Teddy, are you here?
How can you bring up John McCain’s penis and then not be part of the conversation?
This is one of those manufactured controversies, and we help spread it. If the damn thing had just run in the one state, and no one said a word it really would have had limited power and reach.
Our protests give the MSM an excuse to run the ad 10 times a day. I’ve seen it 3 times today including this site — and was frankly a little pissed (if only momentarily) to see I had been duped into watching it again.
And this was probably the plan all along.
McCain is no match for the Ladies of the Lake. With their powerful ancestors Caillean, Dierna, Viviane and Morgause aligned against him this frumpy old man doesn’t stand a chance.
Maybe the Dems need to make an ad and see how many times it runs on CNN etc. I’ll bet not one time.
Teddy on point, the main steam goper’s have no love for mr straight talk!
A little digg for you
Vivianne is cool, but, I want to be Morgaine when I grow up.
They DID. I linked to it at 35.
Maybe so, but I’m not sure it does much for them outside of the Jessie Helms constituency anyway. I know the prim nasty little lady representing the NC Republicans brought back memories of every hateful grade school and junior high teacher I ever had.
yeah kinda
Ding.
Closest I could come to that crew was to name my youngest tiger Igraine.
And it really was quite vicious, and 100% true!
MSM?
Free air time? Please?
Oops. Sorry. Missed it. Not fully awake yet. Thanks
Teddy, you do have the best angle on this whole deal so far. If we have to be talking about it, this is what the question should be!
Why doesn’t the Republican Presidential Nominee have the power to exert any influence over his own dang party… …that’s just… …impotent.
Nice. But, if I were casting that show, I’d pick you for the Sorcerer.
Saw a rerun of Laura and Jenna on Larry King last night pitchin their new kid’s book (No- not my pet goat 11).
Larry asked em how they liked the polls on the prez.- Laura said the prez don’t care cause he just does what’s best for americans whether they like it or not…Kinda funny.
Ignatius points out today that despite the dem candidates referrence to Afghanistan as “the good war”- it’s pretty fucked up too….
Guess we don’t do wars well anymore—we need IKE!
I saw a spoof (somewhere) where it showed Laura smacking Jenna upside the head after her comment about who she might vote for.
The McCain impotence meme. I love it!
Larry seemed SHOCKED when Jenna said what she said- and refused to follow up on it- certainly a highlight..
Jenna is pretty likable- apparently spontaneous and a little naiive.
Speaking of Jesse Helms, I was stationed at Fort Bragg in 1970, and often heard Jesse ranting against hippies, pinkos, and other sane people opposed to the War in Viet Nam. I had never heard anything like that, and used to listen just laughing at how stupid he sounded, as if he were about to stroke out.
Our war record is so shitty that some general will probably win the presidency some day on the promise to start a war with some little piss ant country and WIN IT.
We’re- what- 0 for 3?
Some wizard I’d make. Been tryin’ to hex these fools for years and all I got was this lousy t-shirt with a bunch of burn holes in it.
a little naiive — ya think?
It’s a defense mechanism All the women in that family have developed.
OK, the new “(show text)” thingy is cool. Now, how about “Edit” for us typo-besotted and incoherence-prone bumblers?
That’s whatcha get for smoking and watching Rev. Wright at the same time :)
Exactly. He’s good at basketball too and that must make Hillary cringe. She was hoping his moment of bowling would do him in. Poor thing. LOL
So soon they forget the glorious victory in Grenada.
You mean like, the Second Grenadan War?
The US military has spent decades playin in a double A leage and hasn’t won a game- what the hell would happen if they broke into the majors?
Oh shit- I forgot that one- maybe we can have a “do over”?
I’m so happy someone else thinks like I do. I was starting to scare myself into thinking I was alone in my little ‘dark’ corner. Nice to have some company! ;-)
If the US was a corporation, we’d FIRE the fuckin military.
Actually, it did pretty much what it was intended to do in the Balkans and the Gulf War. I don’t think it can be blamed because Donald Rumsfeld knew better than most of the military leaders.
The Frump Meisters:
http://flapsblog.com/?p=3634
Eminently forgettable, except perhaps for the Grenadians.
No, sweetie, you are not in a dark corner.
Let Your Light So Shine!
Hide it under a bushel – No! – I’m gonna let it shine.
Is McCain Impotent?
Off to the Digg !!
Digg it folks!!
Yeah- maybe they just don’t do “nation building” well. One of the recent presidential candidates said that they should never be asked to do it.
WAIT_ that was BUSH!
Y’know, Bu’ush actually once spoke of “the Grecians.”
Yes, he of the “more humble foreign policy.”
He uses Grecian Formula.
Let the light of the foul-mouthed fem (and gent!) bloggers shine through! Woohoo! Love it. ;-)
Oh heavens, nahant your digg wasn’t up yet, and I spent so long on digg I totally missed yer post. Mod can you delete this and my 76?
Formula 9?
I learn quick, though. Left ‘em alone listening to the mp3’s. Good thing, too. I mighta set the damn place on fire I was so fired up.
Actually, the current fascist corporation running America right now will never fire our military, but rather, are using them as the supervisors & grunts to get THEIR job done.
Yur funny.
I taped the show and will watch it again this afternoon.
If ya hear fire engines, call me.
To eventually be outsourced to Bilgewater.
Yeah we need a free enterprise military- that gets paid for bodies bagged and tagged and shit blown ta hell. Cost plus contract of course.
Download the mp3’s of the entire sermons. You won’t regret it. About 35 minutes each. Here are the links:

I have long posited that the “powers that be” in the republican party have given this “job” to McBush as a consolation prize for being literally kicked to the curb in 2000. The never expected him to “win” and have filled his campaign up with penultimate Washington “insiders” to ensure that if by some chance he succeedes in his Quixotic quest, he’s be “reigned in” by those whose work was vital to his success.
His entire campaign is a conspiracy theory writ large… he’s the absolutely perfect slate for the lobbyists, moneymen and manipulators to work with… the media thinks the sun shines out of his ass, and his “war hero” (how to you get to be “hero” just by being captured? Doesn’t that sort of demean actual heros like James Stockdale and Doug Hegdahl? Bob Kerrey? Hell, John Kerry?) status seems to confer some kind of awe, when the real heroes of this generation are going back to do their fourth and fifth tours in combat in Iraq (some might have actually been in combat as long as McCain was a POW, I’m not sure).
So, fuck McCain, he’s not just impotent he’s castrated. And one nut is in Cindy’s Gucci handbag adjacent to her checkbook, the other is held by the RNC.
g’morning! {yawn}
So how did folks decide this post was about a penis, anyway? *g*
Flaccid, weak, limp: McCain is no leader.
If he can’t tell Linda Daves what to do, how’s he going to fight Osama?
Won’t matter if McBush is impotent or not if the US doesn’t give him a chance ta screw em.
Given his age and medical problems- it would likely take McBush YEARS to fuck america.
OT But found this piece at Harpers:
Now if we only get the rest of the main stream so called “Reporters” to start following suit we just might I just might start getting good reporting in the ilk of Edward R Murrow.
Well good morning sunshine. Come a little late to the party, did we?
This really makes McCain look pathetic! He’s gonna protect me from the terrists but he is no match for that little lady at the end of the video?
Pathetic. How do you link McCain and Impotent together in teh google?
Last night on the 10pm news…. they had a teaser which made me think of military propaganda BUT….. when they actually aired the segment, it was a Marine at Sky Harbor airport returning from his 3rd tour of Iraq speaking out against the Iraq war……OH he was clear, firm and specific….. AND they didn’t spin it….. SHOCKED…. that this aired in Phoenix….
Now McBush walks on water here on teevee….. ohhhhhh AZ might have a Prez… ohhhhhh we could have a western WH in Sedona [as if they don’t have enough issues]
BTW….. did anyone know that Sedona is know as the hippy, new age, vortex kind of place? WOW does that fit McBush’s persona?
“the media thinks the sun shines out of his ass, and his “war hero” (how to you get to be “hero” just by being captured? Doesn’t that sort of demean actual heros like James Stockdale and Doug Hegdahl? Bob Kerrey? Hell, John Kerry?)…
_____________
Uh, I take a back seat to no one in my opposition to McBu’ush’s candidacy, but that is just a bit unfair, IMHO. Maybe being a shitty pilot who got his ass shot down isn’t “heroic,” but I think he showed some pretty serious stones in a lengthy and, by all accounts, harsh captivity. He opted to not take an early “political” release, recall? (They were gonna send him back as a PR goodwill stunt in “deference” to his Admiral dad John S. McCain Jr. He declined.)
Hi katymine! What do you think about putting Janet Napolitano on the national ticket, to make McCain defend his home state? Would she make Arizona competitive?
Good morning! Yes, it’s a lazy Sunday morn chez TSF.
I don’t understand the google-bomb, but it’s an interesting idea….
Bobby there are a lot of Vets who were in that POW camp who are speaking out against McBush…. McBush declined because that was standard operating procedure….. it was name, rank and military number….. NO one comes home early unless ALL are released….
BTW…. McBush broke and participated in films for the Vietcong… Let me find that diary from a fellow POW and you will have a different view …
Why would a racist like George Will find any racist ad offensive?
Teddy what a great idea, Janet sure would be better than Hill would be for Barak… All those who want to vote for a woman would have her as the VP and thus as their heroine!
this is the part where Raven comes in and reminds you this ain’t no party.
This ain’t no dico.
I’ve heard her nickname for him is “Mr. Is it in?”
Up until Gov Janet endorsed Obama she has been a clintonista hard line DLC…. SHE IS NOT Progressive…… she controls the AZ Democratic State party by the short hairs and decides WHO runs and WHO gets support in this state…..
AND if she left before 2010 AZ will be F*cked…. We do not have a V.Gov… the wingnut radical idiot bimbo Secretary of State would move into the job… might have to leave the country…. Janet Brewer … OMG…. she cannot do her current job….
But that is my two cents on that subject…
From all I can tell- McBush was a testosterone laced fighter- but a pretty shitty pilot..He seems to have conducted himself fairly well during his five years as a POW given the alleged fact that he was bein tortured. He cooperated some- but if they were diggin out yer nuts- so would about anyone.
Please do… I kinda remembered that fact and sure would like to see it used against The torture prez… he broke and he knows that waterboarding IS tortur yet he voted against the bill that would outlaw it…. asswipe..
This ain’t no foolin’ around.
Thank you.
Saved em to favorites.
Hub just walked in and I asked him to download the sound thingy on my New Laptop.
I speak out against him at every opportunity. My record is clear and voluminous in that regard. And, I also think that here in The Land Of The Standing-O we overuse the term “hero.”
US Military says that it’s ahead 23 to 2 goin into the fourth inning in Iraq:
Iraqi police said eight missiles or mortars had hit the Green Zone and another 14 fell in other parts of the Iraqi capital, killing two people and wounding 20.
“The Green Zone has received several rounds of IDF (indirect fire) but I can’t say more than that,” U.S. embassy spokesman Armand Cucciniello said. “The duck and cover alarm sounded and people ran out for cover.”
Militiamen have fired 700 missiles and mortars over the past month, but U.S. forces had said they believed they had reduced the fighters’ ability to strike the Green Zone by occupying the part of the Sadr City slum closest to it.
U.S. forces normally respond rapidly to missile firings with helicopter strikes, but those are impossible in dust storms.
The U.S. military said it killed six militants in air strikes overnight in Sadr City before the weather turned bad in the afternoon. Iraqi police and hospital sources said 10 people were killed and more than 40 wounded overnight there. Continued…
Some may remember the great body count war in the Nam which the US won by an overwhelming margin- killing everyone in the country several times over. The army said it wouldn’t do that again- but generals LIE.
Bobby, I get your comment. McCain was not by all accounts a “shitty pilot” he just happened to be completing a bombing run and found himself sharing the airspace with a SAM missile. He was offered “early parole” when the NV found out his daddy was CINCPACFLT, but turned it down because either everyone goes or no one goes. Even a guy who graduates 6th from the bottom at the Boat School knows that.
As for mistreatment, yes there was and that’s a reason so many folks are shocked that he’s a torture supporter, having been there and done that. His willingness to forgive and forget and mend relations with the Vietnamese speaks well of him, but I have to wonder now that he’s running for President if he’d do that again if it was an issue this year.
I am offended by anyone that disparages a US POW. There are hundreds of political battles to be fought against the Republicans and fascism in general. However critizing POW’s should not be one of them. Remember MoveOn’s Betrayus ad and how it backfired?
O/T- So, I see that The Sheikh is givin’ The Queen a thanks-but-no-thanks blowoff to her Lincoln-Douglas dangle. Wise?
Yeah- well McBush destroyed at least FIVE aircraft prior to the one that got shot down in the Nam- one by flyin into overhead wires…He doesn’t seem to have been an all star pilot
Here you go…
On McCain-Another POW’s View
Please read the whole thing….. this man was at the naval academy with McBush too.
You know that ain’t allowed
Couldn’t resist.

“Bobby, I get your comment. McCain was not by all accounts a “shitty pilot” …”
_____________
Uh, hmmm…let’s review the tally of all the expensive air force hardware he destroyed prior to his up-close-and-personal SAM tangle.
:)
Thanks Katy!! I will read the whole article!
From this morning’s NYT regarding Justice (sic) Dept. opinion on the legality of torture:
So says another moral pygmy from the top levels of our government. Aside from this being so repugnant and offensive a rationalization, I can easily imagine the North Vietnamese saying to the captive McCain that US war planes strafing, napalming and bombing civilian populations are terrorist attacks, and therefore . . .
McBush’s entire political career is based on his resume as a POW and his second wife’s daddy’s money and connections. Without either- he’d be scrubbin out urinals at a public park.
Oh, so it’s disparagement to simply say “he was a POW, he was doing his job no more no less?” Puhleeze. He was a POW, the word “hero” is open to question. James Stockdale- Senior Ranking Officer, Medal of Honor recipient- hero. Doug Hegdahl, an enlisted man captured after falling overboard from the USS Canberra, and brought out the names of all known POWs after being ordered to leave the camps, Hero. Dick Stratton, a formidable and affable guy who was a true “resister” and was heavily tortured for his resistance, Hero.
We could, I guess debate the semantics of the word “hero” all day. But at the end of the day, a guy doing his job who gets captured and serves his time in a place he knows he could end up is a guy doing his job. YMMV, but that’s my take.
So one can argue that McBush won his position in life with his dick.
RealPlayer has a great free app. You can capture vids from the net, all kinds of stuff. Plays anything.
Mostly ‘giving up the goods’ as a POW is about what could happen to your fellow POW’s and not yourself without cooperation.
He made it clear before the last debate that that was it. He wanted to take his message directly to the people. I think Hillary will try to use his refusal in another smear ad.
I think everyone should read it…… there are a couple of websites out there too…..
Vietnam Vets against John McCain… not sure if these guys are wackos …
youtube vets against mcbush
-_- it’s closed source.
Yeah, that’s what I think will happen. Sissy Sheikh, afraid of a Skirt.
Now that attack, if it becomes an ad costs her money. If they debated, she could do the same for free.
Candidates who are ahead don’t want to debate- candidates who are behind demand to debate…and call out their opponent—it has always been thus.
McBush is havin trouble with Geezer attacks on his POW experience.
Geezer vs. Geezer- it’s actually funny as hell.
The Vietnam Vets Against McCain site is run by a guy who hates McCain for some reason. Name’s Jim Kiley. I’ve exchanged some emails with him and as far as I’m concerned his site is just a hate site. Not worth visiting. The other I haven’t checked out, but will. Thanks for the hit.
bom dia, pups. i hope that all are having a peaceful and restful sunday.
as far as mccain, I also vote for both. wouldn’t a test of his leadership also extend to that windbag pig snout? Wishing for rioting at the dem convention is not the stance of the repugs or? Will mccain renounce and reject snout’s words ( violence, injury, etc.) I want to see some so-called journalists or news reader to pose that question.
I have heard that, and having had close contact with guys who flew and served with McCain, I never ever heard that before this year. I put all that down to pure BS and think it should never be repeated.
Why? Because anyone who “loses” one plane is talked about sometimes well (”did a great job trying to save it, but it just blewup” or words to that effect), sometimes poorly (jesus, he couldn’t fly one of those quarter airplane rides at the supermarket, what a “dilbert”). I never heard McCain talked about like that.
And yes, Naval Aviation is small community and even smaller in the Carrier world. Your reputation is all you have, for instance Randy “Duke” Cunningham was an excellent fighter pilot, but no one ever wanted to work with the guy outside the cockpit. He was an idiot, he never got command of a fleet squadron (the “holy grail” for most Navy pilots), and was awarded command of “top gun” as a consolation. Arguably a good decision, but he was, I understand given an XO who really ran the place, no one trusted him not to fuck it up.
So the bullshit about McCain and five aircraft is pretty much that and does not bear repeating, I believe it’s nonsense and there are far better reasons to think him an idiot than that.
His nickname was Reverse Ace.
I would actually prefer that he take her on, one-on-one Lincoln-Douglas’ey, sans Charles Gibson types to muck things up. It would be a good throw-down between two sharp peeps.
Either way, he is George W. Bush.
That would be a good debate between McCain and whoever the Dem candidate is. There’s plenty of time for 2 or 3 debates in Sept. and Oct.
I don’t disagree..he is not a hero. Attacking McCain on his POW experience is completely the wrong political path. I don’t like McNasty and would never vote for him but any criticism of his war record is a losing proposition.
egads, they have debated ad nauseam.
At this point, I just want this endless primary to end so we can collectively aim at mccain and the repugs
again thanks Katy… I read the one from KOs and will read the rest a little later…. THANKS for the links!
Fine. Whatever. It’s getting way away from my original point in any event (and I didn’t start the “shitty pilot” riff). I was simply defending his POW conduct, irrespective of my Cat 5 disdain for his McBu’ush run. I think trying to Swift Boat him over his Vietnam record will turn out badly.
The YouTube vid is from the same folks. Allegations made on-camera with no documentation. I haven’t figured out what Kiley’s beef with McCain stems from but I compare his attacks to those of Jim O’Neil against Kerry. O’Neil didn’t like Kerry appearing at Winter Soldier then arranged an appearance on Dick Cavet(sp) where Kerry proceeded to eat O’Neil’s lunch. O’Neil never got over it and the Swiftboat Veterans For Truth was a result. So now we’re seeing the same shit from Kiley. I’ve found nothing that would lend credibility to Kiley or his claims.
We should all wake up to the fact that the Clintons care only about the Clintons. If they cannot have the WH, then only a Republic can have it.
I just read “The Real McCain” by Cliff Schecter who was here at a book salon.
He documents the lost aircraft pretty carefully in the book.
Account begins of page seven: “As an aviator he struggled with his flying. After surviving two years of flight school- and one test flight crash into Corpus Christi Bay- McCain became a navy pilot”
The stories of the other crashes are in the following paragraphs.
I still fail to see what is extreme about Wright’s God damning of America.
Hey, you people who made that ad! You want extreme? The Bush administration’s approval of torture and spying, the destruction of habeas corpus, indefinite detentions without trial at Gitmo, a war of aggression, mercenary armies unaccountable to anyone, destruction of the government agencies that protect the environment and our health… we live with one of the most extremist administrations in U.S. history!
There’s plenty of material, starting immediately upon his return from captivity. The American people need to learn about McCain. Without touching on his captivity itself.
I mean, how could any woman vote for him, really? His abandonment of his first wife, who raised his kids and suffered a terrible accident herself, is enough to cast McCain as profoundly immoral as far as I am concerned. “Gee, you’re not as pretty as you were when I left for war. Think I’ll find myself a newer, wealthy replacement.”
And he did.
that is why I coached the links….. just that these guys have been out since 2000….. these guys are not new….. always though of them in the same vein as the Minutemen….. wackos with a beef and nothing to backup their claims…
DWB
Damning While Black.
I had the Clinton’s figured out with the first pro-business stance taken by our *choke* *gag* “first black president.”
Just a drive by, but….
Love this post, Teddy.
Even if he isn’t impotent, support for the GOP is flaccid….
Kiley has been associated with Duncan Hunter, if that tells you anything. There’s still one piece of research I’m doing on this bunch. I need to find out where the money’s coming from. Duh.
You DO know why The Billster garnered the moniker “our first black president” ‘eh?
;)
THAT is exactly it….
WHAT has John McBush done to earn Americans votes in the last 30 years?
Forget Vietnam, forget the POW stuff…….. just what has he done for the American people in 30 years?
Has he prevented 750,000 pages of investigations from being released in the Abramoff case?
Has he flipped-flopped on every issue?
Has he violated the McCain-Feingold campaign Law?
Is his campaign and staff filled with lobbyist?
What was he doing with Miss Vicki that just magically disappeared?
Why hasn’t they released Cindy McBush’s tax returns? [hey that story on the corporate jet could snag her if they used that jet as a tax write off on the corporate taxes]
I ain’t goin’ there.
Yeah, me neither. Interested peeps can Google it.
Jane’s on in my area
Check out this Hillary Clinton supporter rant:
http://anglachelg.blogspot.com…..2011587500
Passion comes in the form of a vibrator and cannot happen by one guy talking to you for crying out loud!
The time McBush served as a POW is the least relevant part of his service record….more important is his style of leadership while heading up the fighter group in Pensacola. Apparently the group raised it’s readiness rating with McCain at the helm- but that’s about all I have seen. Did his legendary temper get in his way there? What was the nature of his leadership style and his interpersonal relations both above and below him. These things deserve to be looked at- as they point to the kind of president he would likely be.
The guy has many years in the Senate cozying up to lobbyists, who now run his campaign and Senate office, while appearing to be holier-than-thou and castigating his colleagues for relationships just like his own.
And now that he’s finally the head of his party and its standard bearer, he can’t get this little GOP lady from North Carolina to do his bidding? I call bullshit.
Time for baseball. Lessee if the Rays can sweep the Red Sox. Sayonara.
Peace Love Light
Oh, well, at least he/she shows excellent taste in blog templates, LOL!
I am simulataneously curious and horrified to go have a look. Which feeling will overtake the other? We will see
Lots of bullshit back and forth between the Hillary camps and the Obama camps. Hillary DOES have one good argument for the superdelegates…She currently leads McBush in Pennsylvania and Ohio and Obama trails him..It’s early- but superdelegates have to take that seriously.
damn my curiosity! well ummm wow. Where to begin? hmmmm. let’s just call it a rant and not try to make sense of it (okay, i fail..that is the.worst.analogy.ever) just wow.
If I had to predict today and put money on it, I’d say HRC will be the nominee, The Sheikh’s vote lead notwithstanding.

Why? It’s too early to poll for the GE. Besides Obama would take Colorado, shouldn’t that figure into the argument too? It’s all a wash until we are in full GE mode.
I think Obama has it nailed down—the most artful part was disenfrachising the superdelegates with the argument that it would be undemocratic for them to vote contrary to the pledged delegates…Hillary never effectively resisted that argument and I think it sealed her fate- short of an Obama meltdown that doesn’t seem to be in the offing-
But we’ll see.
If she gets it by ill gotten means, she won’t win the GE. I keep telling myself it’s all about the SCOTUS but it is getting harder to heed that voice and vote D.
Yeah RW, we will see. Long way to go yet. Lotta stuff could still happen (e.g., major gaffes, more red-meat stinky supporters, bomb-bomb Iran etc).
Yes- it’s WAY early- as I said- but there is a trend to look at. Colorado would be a nice pick up but the polls there are a split- some showing an Obama victory and some a McCain victory- don’t think there are enough electoral votes at stake there to balance out the loss of either Penn or Ohio anyway are there?
SCOTUS is friggin’ CRITICAL. We are one vote away from Oligarchy.
BTW, Legend-In-Hi-Own-Mind “Anthony” Scalia is on “60 Minutes” tonight, to tell us all to Get Over It.
The goopers now have four very young and very conservative justices on the supreme court. Should they get a fifth- “turn out the lights- the party’s over”.
but I think that is where Oregon and Washington will come into playh and possibly Virginia. We’ll just have to wait and see how it all pans out (nominee wise) and then we will know where to do some focused campaigning.
LMAO BobbyG. Well, at least she has that going for her! ;-)
Yep. That is my fear.
Oregon and Washington are ALREADY blue states- neither voted for Clusterfuck—Virgina is VERY unlikely to vote against McBush- no matter who the dem nominee is…It’s VERY military and pretty conservative…the dems who win there are fairly conservative as well.
I’m hip which is why i repeat that to myself often but some days are harder than others and given my anti-war stance, I have a visceral reaction to the thought of hillary being the nominee. At least I put that energy to good use by volunteering for my choice instead of stewing in my own anger and disappointment.
I don’t think I’ll be able to watch 60 minutes tonight without a bunch of balled up socks to throw at the tv
I’ll just be glad when all the candidate wonkery is over. it’s a fuck’n distraction.
Nice rant, huh? And who was it who was saying it was the Obama supporters who had no class! Ha! Nevah!!!! *putting sword down*
LOL. I’ve started a new blog, but haven’t done much with it yet, although I have a major new post in the works that I’ll probably put up within days.
Nope, they are now swing states. You have the eastern parts of Oregon and Washington that are red (neglected parts of the states).
Gorgeous new blog, BobbyG! Nice work. The Hillary Ranter above couldn’t hold a candle to that blog. Ha ha. LOL ;-)
Umm yeah. Will make me think twice whenever someone mentions B.O.B (battery operated boyfriend)
I just heard on CNN that Scalia is predicting the next Supreme Court member will be a hispanic Protestant woman. Uh huh. Let me guess, hand picked by Scalia himself and this woman is a know social conservative!
Scalia’s BFF: Dick Cheney & Rush Limbaugh. Good gawd. With friends like that you can hate America with all your heart and not feel bad about it!
Thank you for pursuing this issue and hitting the critical points.
I have been flogging this mule since Wednesday, and I love to see more bloggers joining Howard Dean’s exemplary leadership on this potent vulnerability of McCain’s.
When did they become swing states? Washington has been dem as long as I can remember. Oregon, my home state, wobbles back and forth a bit in statewide elections- but it has NEVER voted for Clusterfuck. Both are safe for the dems this year in my opinion.
Thanks. Actually, my next post will touch on Scalia (among others). Been followin’ his crap ever since I was in grad school.
There has ALWAYS been a political divide between the rural areas of eastern Washington and Oregon and the metropolitan areas in the Willamette Valley and Puget Sound cities. Nothing new there.
Actually many articles show them as swing states in 2004 even back to the 2000 election here
also here
LOL I guess you have!
That cat! Narcissist should be in the full-length mirror business. I’m sure I’ll be throwing shit at a the TV tonight.
It WAS close in Oregon in 2000- but Washington was a blow out. I don’t think it was close in EITHER state in 04 was it?
good, glad your keeping tabs on him. i’m sure karma is going to be a bitch when it pays him a visit
I don’t know but I was reading some article with regards to swing states and Oregon and Washington were listed as swing states (19 total, I believe). I was equally surprised given how enviromentally friendly Oregon is but the heavily blue areas are in and around the large cities (Portland, Seattle, etc.)
His latest is that “the Constitution neither permits nor prohibits abortion.” He says “democratic” legislation is the solution.
He is full of shit on this point. There’s that inconvenient 14th Amendment (which pro-choice advocates, yet critics of Roe point out should have been the core rationale, rather than the shakier “right to [1st trimester] privacy”).
Interesting piece- but it does NOT list Washington and Oregon as swing states.
My point exactly. A test flight, where he was not the PIC (pilot in command) would not be held against him. If he were a student, he would not be held responsible, Student Naval Aviators are not allowed to conduct “test flights” (we did used to get to ride along). I’ll go read Schecters book (was going to anyway) and see the rest of the details. Please don’t tell me that the A-4 on the Forrestal is included in this “five”.
I’m surprised he hasn’t choked on his own shit, he is so full of it. I honestly can say that he is a person that I can’t even look at because he raises my hackles so much.
Which one did you read.
Growing up in Oregon- there was always tension between the wood products industries that employed MANY oregonians- and the rest of the state- similar divisions often occured with the fishing industry and with agricultural interests….but most of the people live in Portland, Salem, and Eugene- so the valley wins when push comes to shove.
Both
Oh, and McCain was not a “fighter” pilot, he was an “attack” pilot, a huge distinction in Naval Aviation before the advent of the F/A-18. Trivial but true. I don’t think he commanded a squadron in Pensacola, I am pretty sure he was the CO of VA-174 the A-7 Replacement Air Group (RAG) at NAS Cecil Field, FL at the end of the 70’s.
this is from this article with regards to the 2000 election
I’ll see if I can find the article I read for the 2008 race
Here’s what I find problematically interesting. Any anti-abortion legislation violates the 14th Amendment a priori (not that that will stop them), as it denies “Equal Protection” to an entire class of “born” “persons” simply by virtue of their female gender, subordinating it to the “rights of the unborn.”
So, the ultimate “legislative” solution to flawed sub-constitutional lawmaking? That hardy Quixotic perennial, the “Right To Life Amendment” — to accord full Constitutional protection to the unborn from the (unknowable) “Moment of Conception.”
Fine. Pass it if you can (unlikely). But, then, that Amendment would be itself at odds with the 14th.
Give me a fucking headache, all this time wasting moralistic dilettante-ism.
I understand and I’m not looking for a reason as to why it’s a swing state only stating that it is considered in the political discourse a purple state (with a slight lean to blue) and is listed along with Washington as a swing state that Obama could take in the GE
you know, I hadn’t even looked at it from the stance of one set of right’s subordinating another (at least not interms of the 14th amendment) but damn, that is problematic but then again these folks crap all over the constitution anyway
Great post TSF, thanks.
Great post TSF, and I’d also like to ad that your comments on other’s posts here are provocative and intelligent. You always make me think, or run an look something up.
I am glad you write here.
:)
Thanks. So, yeah, I’m not just trippin’.
Those among The Self-Appointed Morally Wonderfuls never delve too deeply into their own illogic. Being Wonderful suffices.
Obama WILL take it—if for some reason he doesn’t- he’ll be having BIGGER problems than Oregon
yeah, that would be Wisconsin but he is expected to take that too but only time will tell
the rest of us are underwhelmed by their ‘wonderfulness’ but your right about their lack of logic. It is as I have heard (the repug mantra): Tell them X (econ will trickle down, surge is a success) then talk about abortion (you know, switch the topic)
I’m not too worried about Wisconsin either- it’s OHIO that will be critical…As goes Ohio goes the White House- or so it looks to me. Obama isn’t behind McCain by a LOT there, but he IS behind- and he’s WAY behind in Florida. I believe that Obama will win the nomination and the White House- but Ohio and Pennsylvania seem to represent Clinton’s best arguments.
I just don’t buy that argument given that there are sufficient swing states that Obama could carry that she can’t. i think the argument is moot at this point given that mathematically it is impossible for her to win the nomination on either the delegate or popular vote. We’re going to have to wait it out and see what shakes out (who gets the nod) and then get to some serious work
“Which raises the question: What exactly is the difference between publicly wishing for an event to occur and actually advocating it?”
Publicly wishing, IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE OF DITTOHEADS, for an event to occur, IS advocating it. In other words, the nature of Rush’s core audience has to be considered. How does this differ from his calls for Operation Chaos?
Sorry, that last comment wound up on the wrong thread. I’ll put it on the right one.
