Anyone else live near the Santa Anita Canyon fire in Sierra Madre? Any news? Last I heard it was on the way to being contained. My sister and I are supposed to go up there tomorrow morning for a yoga retreat, we may be smoked (or burned) out.
We were lamenting at work yesterday about the cost of going to the movies. Tonight I can go to the movies for free :-) Thanks Suz!
thanks, nahant. my computer is running like molasses.
tis my pleasure, ll
had a forking horrible week and these are the two video’s that, no matter how much i felt like crying, could get me laughing and keep me laughing.
Here’s the WaPoo’s take on torture…
Two AZ superdelegates just announced they are pledged to Obama….. interesting
Glad to help out… now if your Pc needs the Doctor??
sorry about your week, suze. horrible days suck enuff. but when it stretches out for a week…. hope that’s over with.
John McCain…you know the rest.
everybody here west coasters?
Oh and this one is for Cindy McSame...
But I couldn’t find a good video to match it
Suz, I am so sorry. I send you my affection.
neuro, you’ll be happy to know that I used your quote at work yesterday — I was preaching to the choir, with some of my coworkers of a like mind, but still…
Was when I was born, but now stuck in the middle.
What is this “show text in parenthasis I am seeing behind some peoples names?
still a mix, i know ll and vg are easterners like yourself
It is slow moving but should be contained in the next 24 hours. last i heard, it was at around 90 acres burned.
press it and find out busted
BFL, no. Dee Cee area here.
here
Nope…. Mountain West….. it will be 95 degrees tomorrow…
sounds like we have the zones covered. i’m mdt.
WaPo: “”Some prohibitions . . . such as the prohibition on ‘outrages against personal dignity,’ do invite the consideration of the circumstances surrounding the action,” Brian A. Benczkowski, the principal deputy assistant attorney general, asserted in one of the letters.”
Is this guy the new Yoo-know-who?
Hey BFL you up past you bed time?? We have lots of fun on the late late late show. glad you could stay up with us!
Ahh, cool!
Now I don’t have to scroll up and down and back and forth.
Excellent.
Jeebus saves at the First National Bank.
And it is too damn hot already.
No. Midwest.
ain’t it wonderful?:)
Busted, ain’t it great?
Great! Tell them to pass it on!
Do you consider Hawaii the west coast? ;-)
So I don’t have to retype it, I am going to Blogwhore it instead.
I Haz Nu Cat.
no forking picture dood?
west coastish
Naw just Mid Ocean!!
Nope, I don’t have a digital camera yet.
neuro, it was very heartening to see a glimmer of “WTF” in a couple of folks’ eyes when I cited your quote. They’re on the liberal side, but maybe a tad underinformed. Now they know.
Heh, we’re just out there, adrift…! ;-)
EST here…and very late, but heh! It’s Sunday.
Aw Busted, so happy that you have a new kitteh :-)
It’ll be my turn here shortly.
What was the quote, LL?
Busted, we have a cat named Baby…although fully grown, she is only about half the size of our largest cat, and she is very vocal, with a cry that sounds like a baby. It’s hard to remember she is 3 or 4 years old…
A new old cat, nine or ten.
We’ll get along fine.
well, if there’s anybody in NC or VA, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band are gonna be there Sunday (Charlote) & Monday (Greensboro) and then Wednesday in Charlottesville VA. Then May 2nd in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. If you’re near any of those places, run – do not walk- to the show. Saw them down here this week. Go. Young & old. Everybody. The paper here raved. Absolutely raved. Funny, when I came out I said that just wasn’t the same intensity as when I’d seen him in Jersey. Next day I had a ton of songs inmy head and was soo happy. A great great show. As a an added treat, Bruce gives his little 2 minute political spiel about halfway in. Puts a plug in for habeas corpus, the constitution and stuff like that. “We gotta DO somethin’.” Indeed.
Aloha CT — if I have it correctly, neuro’s quote is:
John McCain supports torture of human beings by the United States of America.
John McCain — worse than Bush.
As long as ya don’t torment it! 8-P
It’s funny how some cats are so little when they are full grown yet they can sure get yer attention when they want to!
What time zone is that, anyway??
That’s so neat, busted. Best to have a critter around.
That he does!
BFL, I so wish I could go to the C’Ville VA show this week :-( Sadly, I can’t.
we hit 92 here today
twas perfect inside with all the doors and windows open and a gentle summer breeze wafting pollen and other allergens throughout the house
still 57 here and i have half the windows still open
Good for you Busted ya just hav’ta have some one to commiserate with :>) And getting a little one for the Babygirl is a good idea!!
Hi Suzanne. Internet has slowed to a snail’s pace, but I will try to catch the cartoons in the morning.
Good night friends.
pain free sleep wishes, tex
I’m allowed to stay up late on Saturday. Kids had the computer most of the day. Just watched Real Time that I taped last night, had a bowl of Fruit Loops and I’m just not sleepy.
We have our very own, Hawaiian Standard Time, we never change our clocks too, currently six hours behind ya…!
Hi CTuttle. Yes, you were completely right last night, I had not read you stuff on Al Sadr, and I completely agree. Thanks.
the “boss” has a post up at counterpunch about the late danny federici.
Suz! Huge hugs.
Thanks for finding that great YT. I am a fan of the Coen Bros. One of my friends thinks that Raising Arizona is the best of their comedies. I liked when I saw it.
BUT, for my $$, gotta say that The Big Lebowski is my favorite, just because. Gwad, Jeff Bridges was just so perfect, among other great things about this movie. Alas, I couldn’t find my favorite scene on YouTube. But, the whole thing is just so totally quoteable.
By November, I want every potential voter in the U.S.A. to know that
John McCain supports torture by the United States of America.
John McCain:
Worse than Bush
And the reason I say worse than Bush is that McShame knows from personal experience how wrong Bush’s policy is, whereas Bush grew up blowing up frogs with firecrackers, later laughed at death row convicts as Texas guvnor and probably just thinks that torture is, you know, sort of cool.
Correct. Pass it on, CT!
we are gonna have to agree to disagree because i think RA is one of the funniest forking movies. like the princess bride and blues brothers, i get new stuff outta it every time i watch it
Wow. Didn’t get that hot here.
thanks suz.
Just to say it: I really like the “show text” feature that has been added. It’s great to be able to quickly get to the context of a reply and not to have to copy all of that stuff.
Cool! I posted another one on Iraq today…!
If there’s ANY way you can, please do. Great time guaranteed.
The dood abides.
That movie is a trip.
twas the best the tech crew could do to replace the ‘quoted comment’ feature we lost…
Night Betsy peaceful sleep and GREAT Dreams for ya
Really. Good stuff.
It’s freakin BRILLIANT!
awwww. same to you when the time comes.
Missing Cats.
Several weeks ago I was letting Wally The Best Dog Evah pee in the front of the house. From across the street at our funny neighbors’ house Joey The Cat came slinking acrost the strat. He had spied Wally TBDE busy pissing on my next neighbor’s peonies. This cat was stalking my dawg. This cat did not know any better. He jumped effortlessly on the unsuspecting canine. Wally was amazed and fearful at the same time. No cat had evah over taken his dignity before. Joey chased Wally up and down the block. They doseydoed through the suburban terrain. I believe that Wally TBDE secretly liked it. Time wore on and they both gave up their game.
Four days ago Joey the Cat disappeared with two other neighborhood kitties. I think some varmint like a coyote eit them. Wally misses Joey. I miss Joey.
This is a true story.
I liked that “quote comment” feature a lot, but this is really good and requires no effort on the part of the person posting. Good on your tech staff!
Was it something like, “Hey man, there’s a beverage involved here…”
I don’t even remember that feature, so I guess this is better. For me at least.
BTW, if anybody’s going to the Ft. Lauderdale show, lemme know, OK?
poor joey and poor wally tbde :(
(((mary mcc)))
Our kitty named Baby was a drop off cat…. one of those cats that some apartment dweller dropped off at one of the farms not too far from town…. and my place had that neon sign flashing ….. cat hotel ….. Baby was a long hair tabby with a big white bib, neutered and declawed…. how they expected him to survive out in the country without claws….. ANYWAY he was one of my best mousers….. he used to jump on them and hold them down and then ….. you get my drift…. He love to tease the Samoyed dogs on the next place…. then would need to rescue him from some fir tree…. He could climb up but had trouble climbing down…
Dammit.
That was a cool cat!
I think it works marvelously! It actually is better in some aspects because we’re not re-reading comments…! ;-)
If “quote comment” took effort that’s probably why I don’t remember it.
FDL just hickuped again tonight…
Hi mommybrian – left an (edu’d) answer on last thread – details of Sierra Madre “city” :) mandatory evac may help….
star wars, blues brothers style
Hi you all,
LL, Chris, Suz, everyone. BFL, nice to see you.
I laughed myself silly over that cartoon.;)
My favorite very funny movie…one of them, anyway, is My Cousin Vinnie. I could watch it twice a week, maybe more.
Awwww, ((( Joey the Cat )))
Lately I’ve been noticing one of my neighbor’s cats — he/she has been stationing itself in a window, with an eye trained on my place. I wonder if that kitteh is missing seeing my dear departed Callie, who would always station herself in a window to watch the world go by.
when it hiccupped last night, see text was what it burped up
((((Joey)))) ((((wally)))) ((((mary))))
ohmystars, that is a great forking movie margot
Oh, yeah. Last thing about Springsteen. Promise. (Hey, he seems like a good guy and he’s one of us, ya know? Progressive. Obama supporter..) His special guest for an encore was Roger McGuinn. They did 2 songs together. I was thrilled.
*waving at Margot* Hey! :-)
bfl, you see the bruce i put up thur nite?
OMG!
g’ evening dr murphy
Suz! It’s not a biggie. Really, I think RA it a great movie, and def. worth rewatching. Complex. Subtle. Which The Big Lebowski def. ain’t. I just happened to watch it when I was needing some 60s/70s therapy, and gwad did it make me laugh. Maybe to try to compare the 2 movies is fruitless- apples and oranges. ;)
Ours is a Tonkinese. We got her when our daughter, who was working at a vet’s office, rescued her from euthanasia. She had ringworm and the treatment was a 30 day quarantine at the vet’s which would have been costly so the owner asked the vet to put her to sleep. Daughter brought her home, kept her in a crate away from the other cats, and spent the next 30 days giving her medication, special baths, etc. We already had 5 cats which was too many and said she couldn’t stay with us. But somehow daughter has moved on and Baby is still here. She has adopted us. (Daughter took one cat with her so now we have “only” 5 cats)
its like trying to compare fargo and raising arizona, vg – apples and oranges covers it nicely
Pleasure is mine, Margot. That’s one of my favorites, too. I came across it flipping through channels a little while ago and I wasn’t going to watch it. So much stuff I forgot.
Mr. Gambini, what is a yute?
Wigwam, I wanted to bring your hopeful comment upstairs in case folks didn’t see it late last thread.
Hiya Margot,
“O Brother” is one that makes me laugh myself silly.
love this scene bfl… the new suit
oh yes! that is another great line from The Big Lebowski! He’s getting shoved to an ominous limo…
No. I’ve been away form here. Don’t know why. Is it still there? Must be, no?
Oh this is a great improvement over the quoted comment feature, imho.
Less distracting than the nested comments.
George Bush got to do something tonight he has always wanted to do. Lead the Marine Corps Band at the correspondents dinner in a medley of patriotic songs. That struck me as so Kim Jong Il.

marshen, I saw a clip of that, too. Leonard Bernstein he ain’t.
Worked out so well. I think Jane was giving us a kind of memory test. We failed it, so she lets us cheat now.
My cat population would vary, the most was 14…. depended if some idiot would drop off a pregnant one…. thankfully I had a deal with the local vet for a deep discount for spade/neutering….
Wapoo has an interesting article out today…
BFL, I am practically crying here that I can’t make it to Charlottesville this week :-( I love me some Bruuuuuce, and Roger McGuinn would be icing on the cake.
I’m beat, sitting here yawning my head off.
Time to hit the fart sack.
Goodnight pups.

LL, Hi!
Chris, that’s one of my favorites.
The Soggy Bottom Boys, lol.
And those coyotes are so afraid of animals with two legs…
Kim would probably have had a thousand twirling dancers to accompany the band.
‘Night Busted, much love to your new/old kitteh!
Aloha, BK!
g’nite busted
He did that song Wednesday!!!!!! Told a whole story about it. Didn’t get all of it. But he heard that song and went out and bought a car when he should hae been hangin’ out at the beach.

Dead on balls accurate.
Here’s a snippet…
Suz! Wow you have a great memory! I don’t remember exact lines, just the general drift. Because this woman was gonna win the case by being an f*ing car expert. I loved it! Priceless scene.
Absolutely. Cracks me up every time.
And George Clooney, sigh. Also loved him in “Three Kings” another of my favs.
Those who gave such legal advice aren’t fit to be human… they will be dealt with just like after WW11… there just be might be a lot of hanging around for that bunch.. The Wingnut lawyers are so out of touch with reality and it will catch up with them!! Just Gonzo!

The health care situation is dictating that we make hard decisions about human types, too.
Wow, just Wow…
Hi Loo Hoo. Thanks. I was just going to let it go.
But, damn I really believe that we are creating / have created a climate of opinion. And, I’m seeing more and more direct quotes of our stuff on Olbermann, Stewart, and Colbert. That’s an entry.
And, I see a lot of journalists cringing ever so slightly since the “brown dump” that came down on the heads of Stephaopoulos and Gibson. IMHO, collectively, we’re having an effect.
International will met out the justice… not any one in this country!! No slope at all I am not advocating any thing just laying out what will happen when this admin leaves office … none will be able to leave this country IMHO… thats all
I agree, Mary!
g’nite katymine
Aloha, Katy!
Oh hell. I’m back. Stomach doing jumping jacks.
It really was. Lie I said, the show wasn’t really match for 50,000 in Giants Stadium, but when he brought out Roger McGuinn and they did those two songs, that really made the night for me.
I was telling my sister in law how it made me feel old. There were youngsters there who sang every word of every one of Bruce’s songs and when McGuinn came out they weren’t singin’ any more. There were enough older folks, though. Steve Van Zandt had a 12 string guitar and seemed thrilled.
sorry to hear that tex
Is that Keenan guy still on that?
Hey Doc. I haven’t been around. Were you there when the torch came to SF? Bet you were. They didn’t pen you intyo a “free speech zone” did they?
sexy silver strappy high heels
I cannot imagine a free speech zone in The Citee.

Too true. I think it would also be appropriate to posit, if the North Vietnamese INTELLIGENCE agency had tortured him, it would have been totally acceptable to McSame.
Aloha, LL!
I never thought I would see the day that guys would sing about not being able to achieve a hard on.
wiat!!! you there?? Everybody here is in bed and i can’t turn up the sound on that bruce song you linked. which one is it?

Freddie: This is the United States of America; this whole fucking country is a “free-speech zone.”
Does that mean you know where Nahant is??
CTuttle, you’re mixing me up! Here’s a quote from the Wapoo article:
“Some prohibitions . . . such as the prohibition on ‘outrages against personal dignity,’ do invite the consideration of the circumstances surrounding the action,” Brian A. Benczkowski, the principal deputy assistant attorney general, asserted in one of the letters.
It’s revolting that our CIA is still trying to get away with torture.

nahant, sorry, I don’t. But when you mentioned MA on the earlier thread (senators, growing up in MA) it immediately clicked that Nahant was in MA- (I remember that, at least). I mean, I knew that Nahant was in MA. But, I don’t know the details of the locale. But, kinda like my moniker “Valley Girl”- references where I grew up.

Okay, now that I’m using this “show-text” feature, I realize that it should be recursive, i.e., if I click it twice, I see the next comment farther back.

sleep well, LL!
Hi BFL – welcome back.
We had a lovely day when the great torch march backward visited SF…ended the day with good friends (including the three who hung the huge banner off the Golden Gate Bridge to start off the week).
We walked together from our victory rally on the sunny grass in Ferry Park (right next to the forlorn concrete bowl called Justin Herman Palza…site of the cancelled closing rally for the Blood Torch)….off to celebrate…
The victory rally started a bit early….by 4:30 the Torch was on the way back to SFO – I guess they had a private closing ceremony in a hanger or a jet way or something….
Anyway, walk from park to pub was fun….cracking jokes with the SFPD Riot Squad we fell in among….(we’d have bought ‘em beer but they were still on duty…)
No cages for us…though I did spend most the day in happy service to the Tibetans there at one end (left, natch) of the huge banner intended for the front of the march
(turns out a 60 ft banner is a bit unwieldly on 35 ft wide streets….and humans being what they are, everyone wants to march in step….sigh…whole lot of palm tree threading on the Embarcadero.)
Wicked sunburn. Great day.
Never did see the torch…but I hear it got to travel in its own free speech zone: a bus full of Beijing’s finest paramilitary forces.
Me, I’d rather travel with Students For Free Tibet and the DFH’ers. We have better parties.
don’t make me stop this blog young man
Okay, you can borrow my new bra straps if you like.
What about ex-hubbies?
sleep well, neuro
they make em with just straps?
{{{Big Hugs}}} for all Lake friends, new and old… Too long since I’ve said hello. Find time to read posts but haven’t sat for an evening and drilled into the comments for months.

Hey Nate. Good to see you.
Hi Nate – welcome back!
Nice CT, always thinking about the important stuff … *g*
:-D
hey nate, how goes it big guy?
It’s tops on my list! *g*
((( Kirk )))
Didja feel all of us present with you in spirit ?
((( CT )))
for ct and petro
You know, after several years of encountering SFT at various events and tyhe odd camp or two, I don’t hink I’ve seen any drug use in that crowd. ON a practical level, drugs and cd don’t really mix – esp for internationals. ANd just from experiencing the Tibetan Buddhist chants…I don’t they need drugs to get wherever they need their minds to go. Good peeps.
Dang, Dood it must two am in Toronto…! ;-)
Hello all! Was powering through an evening download of days news, stopped by for my power fix of National and Global events through the diamond lens of The Lake. Figured since there was no spitballing the ushers allowed, diving down below and and grabbing a seat with friends.
Lo and behold! So what’s big in the world that I’m missing? :)
All four Utubes…? ;-)
*passing nate bucket of freshly popped popcorn*
2:40 a.m. to be precise … I’ve got my second wind … no Mexican food jokes … *g*
FORK.. no, this one
Well I moved to Menlo Park to live on my own, and met Charlie and Jan Brown, how’s that for news?
Sure did, Petro – and some of the folks i played with that day were really happy to see how much their struggle meant to people they’d never met – they really enjoyed the Lake’s interest in the Blood Olympics and the welcome SF gave the torch. The commenters who form our community here touched a lot of hearts….
In fact, drugs inhibit deep states of meditation/realization …
Heh, the only smoke they inhale would be emanating from their Joss sticks…! ;-)
They read our comments ? Excellent !!!
Pretties. Bet they’ll last the ceremony and half the reception before you reach for your Birkenstocks!
That true of prescription meds as well? Even ones that can make you drowsy?
They just know. Ask Mr. Cheney.
barefoot the minute i sit down i’m sure
i’ve not wore heels in a couple years. not supposed to wear em at all (fake knee and bad back) but its my first born’s forking wedding. hell, i’m even gonna wear makeup
nahant- geez, this brings up some memories. I was in Logan, en route to Maine, and TVs were on all over the place that JFK Jr had died in a plane crash- just had been reported. But, not much in the way of details. I was reeling. And, brought back memory of where I was when I learned JFK had been assassinated. I don’t know if you watched my vid. But, in the making I found a bunch of JFK photos. I was struck by the inaguration photo of JFK- and, how much he looked like Teddy. And, that very sad pic (in retrospect) of JFK and JFK Jr at the WH portico. My heart was aching.
I was referring to ‘recreational drugs’, Betsy … some medicinal drugs do promote insomnia, although your Doctor would be the best guide about that … and deep sleep is different from deep meditation …
That was a good job you did, VG!
CT, some of the (legal) incense there was just amazing…like flowers on the air…..
and Petro, the commenters at FDL meant a lot to some of those working for freedom in Tibet….passed on links to my ranting here so they could correct it….but what they focused on was the comments….the concern folks they’d never met had for them and their cause really moved them.
I love that color. I think it’s smart that you got a dress with a jacket that’s a twofer. You can wear the dress alone or the jacket with a pair of jeans. Very beautiful! Silver shoes that you’ll never (well maybe…someday) wear again will be beautiful with the dress.
oh! Hey Nate!
(((Petrocelli!)))
They are amazing aren’t they? For ever two of my heroes. I hope Menlo Park in the summer agrees with you! There’s nothing quite like the Bay Area in the summer. Just a skimp and a jump lands you in wine country, Redwood Forests, snow capped mountains, stunning coastlines and then simply cross a bridge into arguably one of the most beautiful and spirited cities on earth!
Going to try to sleep again.
They ought to know for every one commenter, there were probably a thousand silent supporters …
naomi, my neighbor and the person for token’s sister, goldie, just happened to let me know that she just happens to wear the same size and asked if she could borrow them (after the wedding of course)

Hi ValleyGirl!
thanks y’all. the wishes for pain-free do help.
Good and pain-free sleep, TB.
Kirk, on Friday we had a surprise assembly at my school which was sponsored by China’s “Bureau of Lectures.”
Acrobats and contortionists from China. Very good assembly, we were all mesmerized, but obviously PR (and training for the Chinese performers) for the Olympics.

So nice to be here with y’all tonight, but I’m gonna topple off to sleep myself. Be well, pups!
I remember when JFK Sr was murdered… I will never forget that time, I was on a bus going to school at Northampton St and the people at the stop were all yelling about it… they let us out of school early that day…. In South Boston not one person was picked up for public drunkenness that day… had never happened before and never since… city was a gloomy place… that day is forever imprinted in my mind :>((
Ewwww … why did you have to bring up Mr. 747 Shoulders ?!! *g*
G’ nite Dude !
g’nite kirk
Doc, the Dalai Lama had this to say recently…
Sleep the sleep of the children and dream dreams of of the young of heart…. and no getting outa bed again Betsy!!
Wow, who knew … except anyone with a Brain ? Experts say US sex abstinence program doesn’t work
Good night Kirk see ya got in your jammies:>)
EG, how do you like living alone? (No fair talking to Suz in advance.)
Aah, I just missed him! Aloha, Doc!
zipping lips
Well, the prospect of dating again makes me giggle :)
Being on my own is ok I guess…just so different from what I’m used to.
zo kahn ib tabk ‘gum?
I saw a 3 year old do something wonderful today. For the first time, she asked for a Tangerine, which I peeled for her and she methodically ate it. I don’t know what she was enjoying more … the sweet juice in her mouth or the fact that she was feeding herself … it was a blissful moment …
… and then her Mom came by, saw that a drop of juice had fallen on her white top, went hysterical and rubbed it vigorously with a napkin, then sat beside the child and started to feed her ‘the right way’.
The kid said that she didn’t want any more and her mom apologized for the child wasting the rest of the fruit …
nahant- mine too. Also let out of school early. And, there had been a “slumber party” planned for the weekend, and host parents decided to go ahead with it. (I was in HS). TV was on all the time. We were not sleeping. Saw immediate TV footage of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald, that Saturday morning. That too engraved in memory.
how wonderful
and how sad
Dam A kid has got to be a kid and learn to do things for themselves… now a big m,ess I can understand…. BUt a little juice on her top…. that women has just got to learn that she will turn her daughter from her if she doesn’t give her space to be just a kid…. no care in the world…. it always saddens me to parents act that way…
That reminds me of a similar experience with my middle daughter, and my wife’s response…! ;-)
uh, as I’m sure you know, this is not exactly new news. But, maybe it’s just beginning to hit the major newswires.
And, back to one of your previous questions- way back when– you know, about the flavored condom issue. I was never here in a timely way to give a response, but I did think about it. My tack would have been to ask back- where did you hear about that?
I just observed the dichotomy and thought that it was such a clear example of how we sometimes mean well but do the wrong thing … I’m sure that, left alone, she would have eaten the entire fruit and enjoyed it thoroughly …
screeeeeeeeeech
wait
there was flavored condom issues and i missed em? fork, when was that?
ther is no forgetting those events … seeing live Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald I didn’t believe it until later…
I was in 10th grade then…. the funeral was very hard to watch with JFK jr saluting his fallen dad and JFK’s brothers in tears…. we lost so much that day…. the whole country did:>((
LOL … my 11 year old girl came home from school after they had one of those talks about condom use, STDs, etc.
We went for a drive and she was telling me about the lecture, then added, “Daddy, why do they make flavored Condoms?”
Just then I spotted a Baskin Robbins out the corner of my eye and said, “Hey, who wants Ice Cream ?”
I didn’t know Baskin Robbins sold flavored condoms.
31 flavors!
the things i learn at the lake
vg – did the daddy’s face get all red? (laughing)
I would like to know as well — museum of contraception…
oh crap, that shudda been petro
A quick change of subject??? Good move for a dad with his daughter…. I know I raised three daughters and there were some subjects…well lets just say they needed a womans touch:>)…
Lucky for you! ‘Course a Tim Horton’s woulda worked too…! ;-)
HoJo’s only had 28 IIRC :>)
Yep, I’ve seen so much bad parenting and lots of good parenting as well …
Like the time when, one fine Spring day, a couple of kids ran over to the sand trap and started building a sand castle with my older girl. She was 6, they looked to be about 7 – 8.
Their mom came running over, shouting, “Hey those are your new shoes and you’re getting them all dirty !”
*spew*
Just abstain, for gawd’s sake.
ick ick ick.. i just got a mental picture of the other hojo… ick ick ick….
VG, my older girl would put Perry Mason to shame … her mind is amazing. Had I continued the conversation, her next question would have been, “Have you ever used a flavored condom, Daddy ?”
I can’t lie to her and I’d rather she not hear the truth at this point …
Dear heavens! I remember Chryssa eating a peach so fast that I had to grab it away to get the pit! Her clothes went in the wash, and she went to the sink, as usual.
What is Obama thinking going on FOX can any Obama supporter explain this logic to me? Was ABC a little to nice to him with those debate questions?
This interview could sink Obama more than any single primary or angry black preacher.
This could be Hilary’s best chance to catch a break.
Has never worked ever and never will just ask the catholic priests… Why do you think they made confession?? so those nice catholic school girls could go out and have them some fun..
What, that you’d never used ‘protection’…! ;-)
Nope, explaining the ‘flavored’ component …
when the bride was a tot, if her clothes were not covered in ’something’, i was checking her for a fever.
omigod! And until you raised the question (way back when) I didn’t know that there was such a thing as a flavored condom. I haven’t checked out the condom aisle in quite a few years!
How many flavors? *g*
if he is properly prepared, he can destroy each and every one of their slams.
tis a risk but the ‘if he can’t handle fox news, how can he handle being president’ needs to be shut down
Well, have you?
Heh, Faux Spew needs to be shut down…! ;-)
I’m gonna guess that Obama is well prepared. He’s fought off this to the point where Chris Wallace is begging. Should be fun.
But I do wish Obama would take Hill up on her offer for an unmoderated debate. That would be good fun too.
iirc, ct, their rating have been steadily dropping…
Yep and if he attacks Fox for focussing on non- issues instead of the higher aspects of journalism as Cronkite and Murrow, he could stop them from spewing dribble about him all through November.
Jon brought down Crossfire, it’ll be interesting to see what Obama does to Fox …
BTW, what time does it air ?
Totally.
Premium gas is at $4.13 a gallon at the Chevron on Alaska and Admiral in West Seattle when the price of Gas is stable there is normally a 10 cent difference between Premium and Silver and then another 10 cents between Silver and regular
So Silver should rise to $4.03 and regular $3.93 sometime this week.
There has to be a point where gas and food prices become to high for even a GOPer to ignore.
Granted the rebate checks are being mailed soon I bet there on rush delivery and that should throw the numbers off for awhile but we should be close to a breaking point.
Would ya like some Ice Cream, Loo Hoo ? *g*
Wow, you’re paying more than I am here in the Isles… $3.99 for 92 octane subtract $.10 for each grade below that… 89 $3.89…
Taking Hill up on an unmoderated debate or a League of Women Voters moderated debate (my preference ) would be a lot safer than going on FOX.
Besides I hate to legitimize them as a News Network!
On the Plus side lets see if McCain has the guts to handle a net debate Koz and Malkin could do it.
I have already seen over $4..00 for regular here on the peninsular…not at all stations but it isn’t Memorial weekend yet… will break far higher yet when the $120.00 a barrel price gets passed along… our country is on a very slippery slope and before you know it there will be food and gas riots when people can’t afford to buy gas just to go to work…
I was hoping for a hot fudge sundae with whipped cream!
Actually, anybody remember those Dairy Queen or R&W Root Beer goodies? Probably is a figment of my imagination…
You meant A&W root beer floats right?
A & W Root Beer Floats ?
Yum !
there are DQ’s on woodside rd and the
&W just closed a short time ago
loved a mama burger with a frosted mug of root beer float. instant summer memories just thinking about the old drive up
Loved those tall glass mugs of pure bliss…! ;-)
I cherry picked thats the highest I’ve seen in Seattle its a Chevron station though and the price has been that high since Thursday or Friday all the other gas sttions are fighting the prices by having them go up gradually everyday.
Is Chevron in some financial trouble or maybe just that particular gas station owner?
I got to fill out a survey yesterday as a random Netroots Nation person. (Duke University) It was a lot about figuring out where someone stood politically, then it got much deeper. It got into how often one follows the news, and on into what one knew as a news follower via blogs. I think the whole point was to see whether people who follow blogs are more newssmart, but also to find out whether people on the left blogs have more accurate information than people on right blogs.
chevron has always been higher down here.. about 5 cents or more in some places, 3 in other.
We still get them up here, although the kids & I make them at home too …
are ya gonna be able to find out the why and overall results?
Well Tucker has already pulled down the covers on my side of the bed so I will bid all you good pups good night and thanks as usual for the educating evening and of course the great tunes…. good night all:>)
g’nite tucker and nahant
We need a little infusion of music to liven up the thread…
Aloha, nahant!
Really do you remember the questions did they seem slanted, if so toward which side, who at Duke is doing this study do they have a “history” any idea when it will be published.
I’m sure you did us proud, did you mention the Lake!
I don’t think Obama has anything to gain from debating Hillary further, but I do think he can outwit Fox and show how they are not doing the job of honestly reporting the news.
It will hopefully create a stir and cause an outpouring of fury like what happened at ABC’s website after the debate … 20, 000+ angry comments …
Yes! And in homieland we had the Burger Bar. The Burger Bar
Gave the order into an intercom, and the poor (untipped) waitress had to bring it to the car. But what a great hangout. Canned Heat…
try some of this ct
Anyone here know the relationship between the price of a barrel of oil and gas prices assuming of course that the prices stay fixed long enough at one price.
This election may end up being lost by the GOP at the filling station and the grocery store more than any issue we come up with.
wall.
hit.
that’s it for me ya’ll. thank you, pups, for hanging with me tonight. g’nite all
Practice Safe S*x … *g*
nahant- sorry I just missed you. I was doing some math on the $4 gallon- car gets 20 mpg- 20 cents a mile. Commute distance to work and back variable but probably min. 30 miles round trip. Conservative call. Very conservative. $6 just to get to work and back.
I’m not sure. They did ask if I would do follow-ups, and I said yes. I’m guessing bloggers will get the results and post them. Markos’ name was on the survey in terms of who and how much one trusts various individuals.
G’nite Suz !
4 a.m. in Toronto … G’ nite all !
Aloha, Suz!
Tucker Carlson?
Aloha, Petro!
G’nite Buddy !
Eww! what a nightmare…!
No the questions were very good. Not slanted in either direction. It could well be that since I stated that I am a liberal democrat that I was given different questions than someone who self-identified as a conservative republican.
That part I can’t tell you. But it seemed like a top caliber survey to me.
All Obama needs to do is make one mistake or just get angry once (cause Fox viewers can’t stand angry or uppity black men). Fox needs a reason to motivate their base against Obama.
Of course you could be right and Fox being Fox could cause a lot of sympathy for Obama and stir up the is Fox News racist question again in the public mind before the election.
Sweet dreams, Suz.
Goodnight Suz, Nahant!
A respectable survey wouldn’t have two sets of questions, nor would the questions be skewed or biased in any way…
I heard Rye flour is going up in price and that the cold may hurt Washington’s Cherry Crop this year. The news lady was giving advice to save money like organic food buyers could go A REGULAR STORE, or they could buy at a farmers market.
America seems to take this food rationing of rice news well. Gas is already higher than it ever has been when the price is adjusted for inflation, I wonder at what price will gas rationing start?
I think it’d be more self-rationing due to the exorbitant prices rather than actual rationing…!
Wheat Prices are high so beer prices should follow but when? Beer prices are right up there with food and gas as far as issues that piss off voters.
With all the corn being turned into ethanol meat prices should rise too. When do the new calves get fattened up and slaughtered Red Meat conservatives can’t ignore higher prices for steak.
Whatever gas prices are when Bush’s new glorious war with Iran is started is when the rationing will start.
Well, ‘Hey Jude’ is playing on my local radio station, I shall bid a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
A student of mine sent me links to 2 Economist articles, looking at the global perspective on food crisis. Normally I try to quote snippets when I post links, but I’m tired. But, for anyone interested, these are great reads (or not so great)

But what if people start hoarding gas in anticipation of the next price hike like the way people were buying rice by the pallet load at Costco and Sam’s club in Seattle.
The news here in Seattle showed a chain restaurant owner sending employees every morning to Costco and Sam’s with orders to buy as much rice as they can.
But it seems every restaurant in the area is doing the same thing so somedays his employees get lucky and get rice.
We do have rice but if not for rationing I wonder would everyone be able to get rice? So far small bags of rice for regular people are still available the rationing seems to be only for the 20 pound bag buyers.
I wonder how long before I go to the gas station and catch people filling up portable gas cans?
Read the first article what if Bush were to ban grain to be used for booze and force the tobacco growers to grow food plus stop corn from being turned to ethanol.
That would go along way to stopping Pakistan’s and Africa’s food riots it would also give us a positive image and hurt al Quieda’s recruiting in those areas.
I know Bush won’t do it and it would be hard to convince Hilary and Obama to do it but what if next year we have a bad harvest?
If we don’t go the extra mile for another who will do that for us?
going to read next article now
Speaking of bad harvests, have you seen the bee problem that has finally hit us here at home? Been on KOMO a few times this week.
Hey, nite all. I finally have to crash. Thanks for a great conversation, and a great late nite thread. And, thanks to Suz, who kicked this off.
No, I don’t think it was biased in any way. Does it have to be exactly the same questions all the way through for it to be unbiased? Maybe it was, because right up to the end they were asking questions that were neutral. I was mad at myself because I couldn’t remember who Vic somebody was. Saw the name on Howie’s thread today, so they were going in depth as to what we knew even about people running for office.
the Philippines made hoarding rice punishable by life imprisonment.
http://www.economist.com/world…..d=11049284
The Philippines are one of our friends like Pakistan and Egypt either we give them food now or guns later. All three countries have radical Muslims.
No I haven’t seen it whats going on? With bees here I know they were dying last year for unknown reasons is the die off continuing?
Good Night Valley Girl
Good night, VG. The avocados are delish, but not nearly as many as I expected.
Worse than last year, and they have no idea why.
Linky
You all might want to run out and fill your gas tanks tonight. If this strike is still in effect Monday oil prices should go up a bit.
Maybe Bush should just give in to the Saudi’s on Palestine I bet that would get us some lower gas prices.
“LONDON – Oil giant BP PLC on Sunday was closing a pipeline system responsible for delivering almost a third of Britain’s North Sea oil production.
The closure of the Forties Pipeline System was prompted by a two-day strike that began Sunday morning at the Grangemouth oil refinery in central Scotland. Refinery owner Ineos has already stopped production at the facility, which provides electricity and steam to the pipeline.
The pipeline was supposed to be completely shut down by 1 a.m. EDT Sunday. A British energy industry group said the closure could cost $99 million a day.”
“Gas stations in and around Edinburgh were limiting gas purchases to 20 pounds — equivalent to $40 — per visit Saturday, and lines of cars formed beside some pumps. A number of stations ran out of gas and diesel by midmorning.
Some gas stations were charging 1.25 pounds — $2.47 — Saturday for a liter of unleaded, up from about 1.08 pounds — $2.14 — on Monday.”
Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond said BP was releasing extra stocks to help meet demand, and that fuel arriving by boat from European ports would also help fill the gap.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200…..ery_strike
Remember England is an exporter of oil so an oil strike there will cause world oil prices to go up.
Fuel is now coming into England from Europe this is bad.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest that Obama go on faux news not only without his flag lapel pin, but without his wedding ring. That would send ‘em to Mars!
And a Che Gueverra T-Shirt!
Maybe every farmer should be forced to grow there own bees so that at least enough live through next winter? Also this should be a campaign issue the article says that more money is needed the world is having a food shortage al Quieda has to be promising goats instead of Virgins to suicide bombers but we can’t find the money to save the bees.
Lack of food is a terrorists dream. Defeat terror save the Bees! Defeat Terror drive a Hybrid!
Do the nuts at Fox got flag pins, wedding rings and Che Gueverra T-shirts.
If the nuts say they only wear Ronnie Reagan underoos Obama can ask them about all the American Nuns Ronnie’s School for the Americas graduates killed.
They export to the US?
I can’t find an answer on that but a shortage there means that someone somewhere can either sell to us or England. Since England is an exporter there switching to the import side hurts.
Good nite Pups!
We do import some from there, but not much. The Saudis/Canadians are the big winner on that one.
Where we get our oil from.
I just wanted to congratulate Smgumby for being commenter #420.
Hi Suz and Spiderpaws and lurking mods!
Good morning. Anyone up?
Uh oh, someone got their comment deleted which makes jacquat 420!
G’mornin Ecahn!
Good morning Smgumby. Wassup?
Finally got a little rain last night, but it’s stopped already, so it looks like another outdoor day fro me.
Outdoor days are good! I slept through (what I’m told) was a beautiful one yesterday!
Well, it’s been beautiful here for almost all of April. We actually need more rain than the squirt we got last night. It’s cool, cloudy, dreary today, but there’s a field that requires a bit more work & my yard guy is supposed to come & help. He uses a chain saw, which I do not. (Besides not having ever learned, it wouldn’t be safe as I mostly work outside by myself.)
I’m off. Hava great day.
Good morning all.
why is there a strike? who is striking?
Good morning, pups. It’s Dowd, Kristof and Rich. In “Desperately Seeking Street Cred” MoDo says that with Indiana polls showing the Democratic combatants in a dead heat, and 21 percent of Democrats undecided, this is a perilous time for Barack Obama to lose his fizz. Mr. Kristof’s column, “Odd Couple of the Jungle” says of all the struggles to fight climate change, the partnership between an American businessman and a hunter in the Amazon rain forest is one of the more quixotic — and inspiring. Mr. Rich explains “How McCain Lost in Pennsylvania.” He says John McCain is not only burdened with the most despised president in his own 71-year lifetime, but he’s getting none of the seasoning that he needs to compete in the fall.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got blueberry muffins this morning. We got some rain yesterday, so all the green things are much perkier this morning. Have a great day.
Selise, workers on North Sea platforms are talking about striking, which would close down production.
Only a 48 hour labor strike, but it raised their gas prices 30 cents overnight, plus, stations were running out/rationing.
No Loo Hoo my dog Tucker! He was at Suz’s meetup in March… Teddy has a slide show of the event here…http://www.flickr.com/photos/21047123@N08/sets/72157604159665649/show/
