Don’t laugh. This is serious stuff. I have a wingnut friend who, back in the days of the Reagan presidency told me with a straight face that it would be better for the world to be destroyed, than that ‘American values’ perished from the face of the earth and there were survivors who didn’t share them. This comment is in EPU land, but it is worth considering how our civic religion formed in the 1930s and 1940s to combat the evils of economic depression and fascism got lost in translation and co-opted by the most evil elements of our society.

McCain stands for that evil.

Anyone else live near the Santa Anita Canyon fire in Sierra Madre? Any news? Last I heard it was on the way to being contained. My sister and I are supposed to go up there tomorrow morning for a yoga retreat, we may be smoked (or burned) out.

What seems to be coming through loud and clear is that the MSM have blinked. Some of them are actually nervous. The shit that came down on Stefanopoulos and Gibson sent a message … not so much the stuff from the Internet, but certainly the stuff from their colleagues, which was primed by the work of Jane, Christy, Glenzilla, and the entire rest of the crew through the leftward blogosphere.

Olbermann and Maddow have been stove-piping that good stuff into the mainstream, and now some of them are starting to look over their shoulder and into the blogosphere. It frightens them, because they know that their clueful colleagues read that stuff too and will be writing about it.

What we’ve been doing, and have yet to complete, is the creation of a “climate of opinion” that is intolerant of the standard MSM bullshit. There are those like myself who throw mere pebbles into that effort, but there are folks like our front-pagers who throw boulders, even mountains. But it all has an effect. And even Joe Klein is starting to get nervous. (After what Glenzilla did to him, I’m surprised that he isn’t cringing in his closet crying for his mommy.)

Let’s keep it up. amd pour on more.

attack. Attack. ATTACK. ATTACK.
