[low whistle] Yeah, I was a history major back in college, but have no idea how one is supposed to demonstrate ones’ love for ones’ country by “loving” ones’ past.
One of my memories of reading Peggy Noonan was that I was reading her book on writing for the elder George Bush and she was getting all misty-eyed over American history (”I was standing right where Abraham Lincoln once stood!!!”), meanwhile, the train I was on was passing by the walls of Rome!
Perspectives.

Regardless of what she says about Obama, the key point in the whole fetid spew is in what she said about Clinton:

“Mrs. Clinton learned at least its importance in her long slog through Arkansas, circa 1977-92.”

You see, people who grow up in Illinois like Clinton, or Hawaii like Obama, or (presumably) California or (certainly) Massachusetts or any other state that (coincidentally!) vote Democratic - they’re incapable of understanding patriotism. That’s why they’re all traitors and cowards.

I say this as someone born in the Constitution State, raised in the Cradle of Liberty and living in the Land of Lincoln: Peggy Noonan can kiss my ass.

Well most of America has been crying over George Bush’s destructive tendencies and policies on America. And we are supposed to care when she cries? She doen’t have any concerns over America’s tears…………

I doubt I’m gonna get an answer, but I’ll ask this anyway. I read references to Peggy’s drinking all the time. Is this based on something besides the incredibly daft writing?

I have not read all the comments/thread etc. But, exactly why is it we should be so reverent of Mr. Ford. I mean no disrespect. I am probably Noonan’s middle age, however, I’ve never been taught to tear up about the Model T/A or its maker. Now, when I got a georgeous red Corvair convertible, before I knew better, well…now that was a tearful, joyous occasion.

And do you really….I mean, really think voters are that stupid in IL. That they never heard of Wright, Rezko or Auchi?

Well I, for one, don’t think that voters in IL (Illinois) are stupid. They knew about the above when they voted. YOU ARE AWARE THAT ILLINOIS HAS ALREADY HAD THEIR PRIMARY, AREN’T YOU? They also knew that these techniques of personal assassination by association are just typical stuff in Chicago politics…they know Wright, and Rezko (the guy has donated millions to scores of politicians in Illinois of all political stripes since long before Obama). They can smell bullcaca slurs when they are doled it out.

Now such bulldada may be more effective in INDIANA. But Barack has done well in every state abutting Illinois, perhaps because the folks in these States are in the Chicago market, rather than the Philly/NY sphere of influence.

Clinton has to win by at least what she did in Pennsylvania just to get the Superdelegates to hold off making a decision. If it’s under 10% and she doesn’t cut her losses in NC to 10% in North Carolina many will make a decision based on those races and the fact that she’d need a clean sweep of the remaining races by 60%+ (and 60% of the remaining Superdelegates). to win the nomination. If Obama wins Oregon or splits any of the other states she starts needin 65%, or 70%…or 80%. Finally she’ll need 90% of Puerto Rico. I guess it would be “possiblo, senora”.

Then we can start talking about pardoning convicted terrorist bombers and Viquennes, right? And how Hillary needs to win a <strike>State</strike>…what PR is an autonomous Commonwealth that doesn’t even vote in the Presidential election…but she has to win it to get the nomination?

I’d give Peggy Noonan a word or two about her bogus view of American history. I have lived in the shadow of Sutter’s Fort for the last decade and I can bet that Obama is a bit more in touch with that history than the Nooner. He likely knows that it wasn’t juyst a bunch of white Protestants that came over the Sierras…but also Hawaiian islanders, Chinese, Mexican’s from the Cordilleras, Europeans (which is why Opera became popular on the West Coast) as well as a good number of people from African descent (many from the US but also some from Mexico).

Some, like my Mormon ancestors, actually brought them to California as slaves. But the laws of Mexico in that regard were carried over into the California Constitution (with the help of Northerners) so that California entered the Union as a free state. My white ancestors had to givew up their slaves…although they tried to foist them off as being members of the family (which they may have been too, the children, at least).

The Mexicans became a part of the fabric of California. Spanish was the language of the original, non-native settlers…and their culture was protected under the original State Constitution and the treaty of Hidalgo-Tegucigalpa. Some of thedescendants of these Americans were actually deported to Mexico, illegally, in WW2. Later immigrants from Latin America have been welcomed by agribusiness and others…sometimes only because they were able to impair the Union movements in the State.

Californians have always had to deal with race, sometimes progressively…but often not.

The Chinese were not welcomed during the Gold Rush, and were told to go back….until their labor was needed on the railways, that is. Even then the weren’t considered even as possible citizens until well after the turn of the Century. By that time many Chinese and Japanese were into their third generation here. So tell Peg-ASS-us Nooner, the story of California is also one of race and class. The California of Ronnie Reagan and Tome Cruise is one that’s about as thin as the grey cells in her brain.

And I’m sure that the Great Henry Ford…union-buster and racist extraordinaire…the guy that financing massive printings of the “Protocols of Zion” that are still found in bookstores across the world today is a suitable icon for her!

All good points, but understanding and considering this history of freedom and democratic activism would require both intelligence and sanity. Neither of which Noonan seems to posses. Oh well.
