Hi ES
DEZ
sorry for that little hiccup pups
comments are really open
spank me I’m way late…Hiya ES
It would help if the comments are turned on…! ;-)
There we go! Much better.
Where did Spring go?
Hey hey Eureka
fork et, that blows
hey eureka, love me some a.s.spankers.
ES, So Huckster is saying he had nothing to do with her firing, eh?
I’m always so late to threads…
What’s on my mind?
My hubby has his nose to the grindstone most days. We watched Lions for Lambs finally and it really bothered him. A lot. I mean, it’s not like he doesn’t know the issues, but he doesn’t stop to think as much about it as I do because he can’t. For such a talkie movie, it really got to him.
Dang twas second but I did DIGG it for you ES!! :>)
Hi folks,
Kinda pissed off I missed the gun thing, took me too long to read the whole thing.
well, succinctly, all I can say is that that guns blow me away.
It triggered a lot of reactions…
dugg
Good question. Two weeks ago it was almost 80 degrees, then POW, back in the 30’s overnight. It snowed at the freaking coast last weekend. In Oregon. FYI, it doesn’t snow at the Oregon coast.
Not at all.. he still got a Arkansas blog spanking!
Not much on my mind tonight, just looking forward to enjoying the rest of my weekend off (minus some overtime I worked on Friday)
For some damn reason, this song has been an earworm lately — in a good way. Never thought much about it when it came out, but I am digging it these days for reasons that I can’t explain.
The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
As was told in Boston… Spring was Sprung back to Winter!!
I always loved that song. I used to play it endlessly (on vinyl!) when it came out. Still loves me Gordon Lightfoot.
I saw the Spankers in Austin! Here’s another incredible performance in Austin:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12qBoy2rhVw
But, Micah is still fired right? Just Huck didn’t bring it about…
ES found this pictures Esephus
It reminds me a lot of Delphi….
Hi Katy, LL, Suz, CT… just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in… :-P
ES, meant to ask you if waters were receding?
Hey Chris, Quebecois, all.
dosido, whew! Glad you like it as well. It’s totally morbid, but such a great song :-)
The last thread taught me never to shoot my mouth off.
Hey, Dood! Did ya see that al-Sadr has taken the gloves off?
OMG! It’s the fabulous Margot! Hi Margot (I just love that name… )
I have a meeting in Edinburgh in Sept. I’d like to visit islands in Scotland, but don’t know where to start. Music (sessions) are a must. Favorites, anyone?
JoFish, wassup? I haven’t been able to spend too much time around here lately.
Hi …. will be back in NYC next week….
jealous sigh
That’s his signature song, LL! ;-)
hey margot… how goes ohio tonight?
Hi Chris, please say hello to Edinburgh for me when you get there :-)
Still fired.. Next person who has some explainin’ to do is her boss and perhaps the McCain campaign.. Someone raised hell over her holding up a Clinton sign today.. She was a very good employee who had been working there for quite a long time.
Hey Margot,
How was this beautiful day (here in Cleveland for us) for you?
Hi Margot, love your last graffiti on FB. Hi Christine, how’s the renovation going at the museum? Goodnight John boy, don’t rub that gun too hard…
Ooooh, did I just write that?
CT, yeah read your writeup… it looks like al-Sadr wants to give the Maliki government (and by proxy, us) a black-eye.
union?
One of the things scientists have warned for years with Global Warming is extreme weather. I know parts of the Midwest didn’t just set new records, they completely shattered snowfall records. The Northwest is right now seeing extreme swings in the weather. Much more so than anyone can remember.
Could the scientists be correct? Again?
It’s tragically majestic esp. with that bell sound.
Here’s an interesting (morbid) site. Line by line explanation of the lyrics with some facts of the story. Didn’t have the internet back then. *G*
CT, yes it is — it pops up all the time on my XM, as it’s currently one of my faves ;-)
Her boss said the sign was the reason, right?
Tis fabulous. Always, sigh.
I took care of a guy once who’d tried to shoot himself and partially missed.
Not a good thing.
I’m off to Ohio at the end of next week… then maybe Kansas. Because my life is not exciting enough yet. LOL! I need some Kansas in my life. (actually my best friend lives there)
I will, we love this city.
We flew into Istanbul and traveled south to Izmir, Esephus, and then ferried into the Greek isles out of Kusadasi, iirc. Esephus is very close to Kusadasi. So a ferry from Crete could be the best route for ya at some point in time. I know you love the Islands.
dosido, thank you :-) I read up on the Edmund Fitzgerald recently on Wiki, and it was enlightening for sure.
I liked how al-Sadr told the IA and NP to stop supporting the Occupiers…!
I don’t know.. I’ll ask.
Today I came up with two new sayings.
This one is a bumper sticker:
I may be old but I am not stupid.
The other is:
It is a good thing I am at the end of my rope cause I would hang myself.
(This is scorpio humor)
Chris, I’ve only been to Edinburgh once but I am totally in love with the place. Can’t wait to get back there, someday soon.
Kansas… like these guys. hehe
Yes… He waited until she worked her entire lunch shift before firing her.
Margot, are you in OH? IO? LOL!
We are going to open the second floor of the main building in June: Baroque paintings to 1800, American paintings to the Armory Show, and our beloved armor court. Yea!
Another Spanker classic Winnning the War on Drugs
*snicker*
Did someone say Kansas City?
ES, please see 26, thanks. Cause i really care… :-))
Okay, I’m late to the conversation. Who got fired?
OK my first blog temptressing:
clevelandart.org
Oh Chris — in regards to Edinburgh, try to check out Milne’s Pub — it’s in Rose Lane, one street back from Princes Street. Wonderful food and ambience!
Good news, I might end up in Ohio next november, I’ll keep you posted.
ya gotta add the www dot in front like this
http://www.clevelandart.org
now ya gotta go to your profile here at the lake and type your http://www.clevelandart.org in as your URL so that people can get there by clicking on your name in any comment you make
So noted, thanks DW!
I saw the Spankers in Portland when they played the score live for “Goldrush” a Charlie Chaplin film. It was a total hoot.
I’m not sure either, apparently a supporter of Clinton that works in AK who showed up at a McCain thing?
Oh, The next morning.. I could feel the river rumbling in bed! I took photos again, but the scale is impossible to comprehend. Third flood in just over a month. But I live a hundred or more feet above and a couple of hundred yards away from the highest waterline. Kayaking was out of the question.
Yo ‘reka, did you get the e-mail I sent? Masters are back. Sounds GREAT. Check your e-mail.
For the rest of you, ThatGuy (that’s me) has a record coming out with his band. No forking label, just us.
You can hear some full-length songs here. CDs will be available May 12, so if you want to order, drop me a note at MySpace or here and I’ll let you know how you can purchase your very own copy!
We are opening one gallery at a time, until 2012.
A young woman who went out protesting during work hours.
Here’s the article, Jo…!
Ah. Got it. Color me confused… thanks for the info. Oh, and Hi Dosido!! :)
OK, you know what a punk I am…
Chris, one more Edinburgh recommendation — if you haven’t already booked a hotel, check out the Old Waverley. It’s right on Princes Street, across from the Sir Walter Scott monument. I totally loved it; each morning there was a bagpiper playing across the way :-)
nice site, I’m there right now, well not right now…
ES, nature sur eis scary at times, hope things go back to normal soom for your community. I love kayaking.
:)
Good night all, I’ve probably worn out my welcome ;-)
hi! (waving)
A young lady on break in the Little Rock airport today, went out to the fence and help up a Clinton banner for John McCain as he was leaving. She got fired and first reports suggested it was former Rev Gov Huckabees doings. Huck denies it.. So the question now is, did McCain have a girl fired for exercising free speech?
I just love skirling bagpipes…!
Oh man, just after you got me all nostalgic and stuff. well, good night LL. sleep tight.
Aloha, LL!
your welcome is not wore out ll
Hi everyone.
What’s on my mind tonight? The VA underreported the number of attempted suicides they handle by a factor of fifteen, and it was probably one of the less remarkable lies the Administration has told.
Oh, and there’s an idiot with a computer who thinks Ben Stein knows what’s going on behind the scenes in academia (scroll down to the comments), but he’s gone now.
Other than that, and waving to Katymine (haven’t seen ya in a while), nothing much.
Great news! just read your your mail.
Bonne nuit LL.
My first question…. was Cindy McBush there too?
she has quite a rep here in AZ as being a b*tch….. from those who have had to deal with her …..”she is a piece of work”
yeah, just read it. Sounds like the Huckster was not involved (he says) so who complained, and why fire someone on their break? I loved the moron in the comments over there who said she was “on the clock”. Obviously someone who knows nothing about being “front of the house” wait-staff in an empty restaurant.
or mrs gov huckabee – you know how these gop hide behind the womin folk doing the dirty work
Hi Cujo359….
Ohio goes softly and gently into spring. (Wait, let me check for frost. Nope!)
Redbuds are in bloom. My grape hyacinths are all over the yard.
This town was part of the Underground Railroad)
and we’re getting to name a new bridge after Martin Luther King, Jr. High time!
((( Suz ))) thank you :-)
Bonne nuit Q, and bonne nuit to all the pups.
*poof*
“Piece of work” kinda goes with her pedigree, doesn’t it?
Dosido…I left a response on the gun issue and the Constitution on the last Post that you and your daughter might want to consider.
Todd Rundgren. Scary Glam. Makes me feel old.
Jo, do you want it? I’ll trade you.;)
I read no mention of Cindy in attendance today.
Margot where in the great state of OH are you? I am going to be in Columbus next weekend…
katymine, left you a note epu’d on last thread. Sending you to the very cool David Lebovitz’s blog for great ideas re Paris and France (and fabulous food!).
http://www.davidlebovitz.com/
Any chance you might be up for a few days sailing in the aegean? Spent 3 weeks there on a smallish sailboat years ago, best trip I’ve ever taken. Had crew, so no responsibility whatsoever. Generally hit small island tavernas in the evenings drinking wine, eating great food and laughing, otherwise mostly just baked on the deck and smiled. Very inexpensive then…
Hey…. I know from nurses who work at the local Champus provider about her calling and doing colonscopies by phone which is quite a feat…
Cujo, ya missed this this little letter, it’s not just Murray, but, the Chair of the Sen. VA Committee too…!
OK. I’ll go look downstairs…
Speaking of new music, is SteveAudio here? He has an article up at American Street about a rock musician/band called “Max and The Marginalized”. Apparently, protest music isn’t dead, it’s just well hidden at MySpace.
hey cujo, i haven’t seen steve audio here tonight. thanks for the link. we were just talking about modern protest music last nite
Hmmm… I’ll try the link again
Done, I think.
Thanks for the info….
That’s just frightening on so many levels even if not true.
I’m about 60 miles east of Columbus.
woohoo.. it works too
yeah * happy dance* christine e’s name is now clickable
For some reason, that link’s not clickable, but I know Sen. Akaka (sp?) got on the VA’s case in that hearing today, too. I was in a hurry when I wrote that article, and I was trying to do more background than play-by-play. I know it doesn’t look that way, but that’s what I was trying to do …
eureka, freakin’ epu’d cuz of stupid stuff again, man oh man, good thing i am made of patience. my first last and middle name.
tried to find m ward’s version of pete’s ’let my love open the door’ on youtube just now, and came to this thread to tell you, been meaning to pass it on to you for a long time,
highly recommend. highly.
long story on how i came about it………lovely cover.
nite pups, i’m spent.
started day calling congress, writing letters, radio show call ins, then store, then looking for trilliums, then dropping stuff at a radio station and gossiping, then going all over town to inform the three people i know who would want the job now available at the radio station, then other stuff, am spent.
i like it better when it’s quiet.
signing off-the turtle with the spunky bullhorn………
and i posted these in the daytime, but was hoping the night nuts would see them……….nite. love and rest to you all……..hitting the feathers now hope you all feel the same ahhhhhhhhh i do, when i go to bed with the peace of mind that there are things i can do tomorrow to make a difference. no matter how small.

and i am pissed, coming to this thread wiped out my browser, all of my fucking windows…….i wish they would fix whatever the hell it is that does that since they upgraded here, is entirely frustrating, i hafta manually stop loading every time i enter here to read a page, everytime i reload, every time i read an article and if i don’t, wipe out…….ridiculous……..over 20 fucking saved research windows, gone………gotta ’history’ every single one of them tomorrow and don’t get back the ’back arrow’ that each of them had….multiply that by five at least…..is it worth it? sometimes yes, sometimes, no not at all, especially not today. /s : ) not sure what emoticon will fit here………and bring back the calendar, pretty please.
eureka, if you hear the m ward version of ’let my love open the door’ then it all was worth it.
nite pups, nuzzle noses.
Ah, out towards Cambridge on the 70?
Just something that you might want to consider. Though on this topic people are pretty much set in their ideas despite the actual history. Some of the attitudeswe consider traditional are actually the result of an extended, and very successful, program of historical reinterpretation by the NRA and earlier “gun rights groups” (some quite racist…like the KKK).
If we had a Senate that was worth a damn, that letter would have seventy signatures.
I’ll try not to think about that kind of phone call while I get my mammogram tomorrow. :|
I cannot imagine sailing the Aegean in summer seas! We barely made to Athens alive in a huge Ferry boat.
dmac, pray tell what OS and browser are you running? I have one really wonky machine that has had no issues since the upgrade after the first week. Let me know, maybe we can help. It is after all only a silicon-based lifeform and therefore your servant not your master… 8-)
Yeah, myspace has been the place for that. I think there was a hit in the UK that was promoed online entirely, and their site in myspace was ground central. Myspace is bigger for the indie bands than Facebook, but they both use it to get the word out and sell their own printed records. The day i heard about that hit single in the UK, i cheered. Eventually the RIAA will have to bite the bullet about downloading online. For now? I’ve got an ear to the ground about the rumblings in the music industry about it.
Oh and the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, definitely ‘local’ history for me, being in Michigan. Sadly, every single one of the lakes eat ships like that during the fall. Lake Michigan and Superior have the nastiest of the squalls, but that shipwreck was legendary and very sad.
dma – Come back and watch this video in the morning.. I know you are going to love it.
g’nite dmac, tech crew is still working on it.. it is affecting some of them too so they are motivated!
thanks for the johnny cash – i had not seen that one before
Yep, right out that way. Do you want to eat ice cream? I’m a scared driver but if you come here I’ll take you to a great old ice cream place.
Word!
I agree! I missed the hearing, so you say Akaka tore into ‘em? He’s my Senator, makes me proud to have voted for him…!
No, actually I’m quite wishy washy. :)
I was just going to write that I did the quick read of your comments and took away enough to know I’ll have to reread it more carefully and look into it. (too sleepy and frankly uninformed to debate, unarmed, hah!) Because the whole thing is intriguing. Thanks for the material to chew on. I mean it!
Thanks, Suz,
You are the best.
Chris
Really? we had great ferry trips last year and looking forward to our high speed ferry trip from Iraklion to Athens….. Last year it was the slow ferry which took overnight… now we will get to see the sights and the islands along the way…
and someone mentioned, don’t remember who, and looked back through thread but couldn’t find it, but remember it was someone i liked, that they were going to be in ohio soon……..margot and i aren’t too far apart, and that weekend i might be on the other side of the state, so, if you want, let me know what part you will be visiting…….and from there figure out if it is possible to meet up…….
too tired to make sense and should have / backed. away. from. the. keyboard. maam. long ago…….
sweet dreams.
On the old music front.
My friends from the California Guitar Trio will be playing at the Québec City Summer Music Festival with Yes in mid July. Saw Yes for the first time in 72. And Pat Mastelotto from King Crimson will be there with Tony Levin. i’ve made a tradition of bringing coffee beans to Tony in the last five years. Should be a hell of a weekend.
This is one of the best Music festival around, in a beautiful city.Hope to meet you there
Yeah, I’ll have to see if I am going to have access to a car. But I do love me some I-Scream. Not Graeters is it? Being a former “columbian” (isn’t that what you are if you are from Columbus?) I used to get dragged down there a few times over the summer. That and there was a place in Upper Arlington on Bethel Rd down near my old office.
Found a company in North Market, that makes interesting ice creams/sorbets called Jeni’s. Chili-Chocolate; Coriander and some citrusy thing; salty caramel. Interesting flavors, and very few repeats.
I sometimes have that problem. Can’t figure out a pattern or what triggers it. Macbook, intel, os 10.4.11, firefox 2.0.0.4. For what it’s worth.
I’ve just learned not to depend on Firefox when I have more than five or so tabs open. I’ve also learned to avoid YouTube when I have anything valuable in a tab. YMMV.
LOL.
No offense to anyone, but when anyone complains about their job, I suggest they think about what’s it’s like to be a butt doctor. Complaints stop.
firefox has been wonky with utubes lately for sure
Just consider the whole reference was about Cindy McBush…..
Have you tried Safari or Shiira? Also Opera? Firefox has been acting strangely on some sites lately (I am using 2.0.0.14 at this moment, no bad stuff yet). Same basic setup as you, but have Leopard at latest update.
See if you have issues with an alternate browser, and try upgrading FF. Let me know.
I think MySpace and Facebook are both less than optimal for that sort of thing. Better to have a central place you can go to find music, like Magnatune, but with everyone who wants to be there represented.
But, lots of younger folks have grown up with MySpace and Facebook, so I suppose it’s a natural idea to them.
the colorectal surgeon’s song
Nope, this is Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl.
Homemade ice cream, and locally made chocolates. It’s just like it was when it was opened in the 50s, or so I hear. Soda jerks wear those little paper caps and everything.
I liked that letter. Short and to the point!
Back to Lions for Lambs: it totally made one point that our guys are dying for people who don’t know the first thing about what they are asking them to do. Jeez, that just gets me and then we hear news like this.
Oh! laughing with a red face now! Wowee.
I usually have at least 5 tabs open at a time, so maybe it’s time to cut back a little.
Oh, cool. I will try and make it, depending on my car sitch. Sounds like camera material! :)
We sailed the Cyclades primarily, and had
nomaybe one day of rough seas. After leaving Piraeus, everyone tossed their cookies once and it was over. Those are big honking ferries.. you must have hit meltami season. We avoided it by going in june.
I don’t know, my buddy is a Colorectal surgeon who doesn’t seem to be bothered by his profession too much. He’s always telling me that he spends a great deal of time getting to know the better side of unpleasant people.
jofish at 126–i caught that as i loaded the last comment before bed…
yes, that is what i have always said, it does exactly what you tell it to do….it’s a computer……pisses off my friends and my mom when i tell them that.
but it isn’t lately, need to hook up with my cyber guru/. the one who built it (and it will come)
: )
-=-
eureka, i will , if i know it’s really worth it, i load the videos while i’m looking up other things…….
usually in the morning……..
========
suz–the johnny cash song, the owner of the local radio show plays it all of the time, one day he played it THREE times in a row….after the ’viewpoint’ call-in show……three times. imagine that, one after the other, he really did, good on ’im…….
it has a thing about it. unique.
i really think it was johnny cash’s last fuck you.
that’s who i got it from, joe edwards, wais radio.
i am tired beyond belief, nite pups.
love rules. every time…
From Wed’s news …
CalPERS chief investment officer resigns
… and from the Friday night news dump (for the ever-popular Saturday WSJ edition):
Calpers-Linked Land Partnership Gets Default Notice
No, they just lose the stake some financial genius had them pay out just as the RE bust was beginning to pick up steam. Mind, the only clear linkage between these two stories is in the outgoing CIO’s new vocations.
FUCK
that’s my pension
18 holes a day!
ROFLM BUTT O!
I bow to your repertoire, Suz!
I just had a FF crash. I’m wondering if it’s something at FDL? I did have five tabs open at the time, but no YouTube. Plus it took a while for FDL to respond again.
I am running Vista Ultimate, using Firefox… open lots of windows and never have any problems… But I do make sure all updates are done on a regular basis..Also I have IE running with lots of tabs opened….Outlook is running, so look and make sure all necessary updates for your OS are done… you might look to see if your drivers need updating… just my two cents
Good luck to with quirky computers..
I agree, FF and Utube doesn’t mesh, I like Safari to read and listen with, but, I can’t post at M&C in Safari, it doesn’t let me quote or block, so I use FF for it…!
Nite dmac, sleep well
fdl had a little hiccup unrelated to the problem we were discussing
tis all better now
FDL just had a hiccup, right Suz?
I had to buy myself a new comp last week. Big desktop, big screen, the dreaded Vista with an explorer 7… The thing was extremely cheap, fast and memory laden, and lo and behold, absolutely works great. Working on my pics on this behemoth is nothing but a pure pleasure. This site still loads slow because of the ads and Digg, but much faster than wit my old clunker.
Funnily, FDL just crashed as I was trying to send this…:-o
Aww thats a bunch of shit!
yeap, musta burped after a troll – those dayam trolls have a nasty aftertaste
Well time for night night here.
Spanking Liberally and Colorectal Surgeon make nice book ends don’t they?
Heh, and cause a bad case of indigestion too, eh? ;-)
aha – its q’s fault :)
Aloha, dosido!
g’nite dosido
OK OK mea culpa!!! See Suz’ link. it’s great. I’m leaving before I offend anyone else! :P
Goodnight, dosido.
Yeah, that’s it, blame it on the foreign french guy… ;-)
dosido, i believe that was snark :)
nah, it was me. I am sending out anti-Vista waves. Steve Jobs rulz Bill Gates Universe… hehehe
bonne nuit Dosido
works for me (laughing)
Hey Suz…how the heck are you 2night? Can’t believe I was so neglectful… :(
I used Safari until discovering firefox. I’ll try safari again for a few days.
I was going to swith to Mac, but two of the programs I use for photography are not mac compatible. A shame really.
you were not neglectful – tis eureka’s thread tonight.. i’m just moderating it
I do a lot (a lot) of photography. Which two programs?
Tomorrow starts early for me, even though it’s Saturday. Goodnight, pups. Sleep well.
g’nite tow
Speaking of YouTubes and Firefox..
I noticed that if I want to watch one that’s posted here as part of the main post, it won’t work. Lots of stops and starts. But if I go to the YouTube site AND close FDL, I can watch it fine.
Darn it.. I lost a reply because firefox hung up and I had to reboot my puter.
Yes, huge swells, higher than the top of our front window seats.. Even most of the crew got seasick. Cars and motorcycles were tossed off parking decks, thrown about like toys. It was a very large hydrofoil (?) ferry. At one point I looked up an my entire window was filled with an island…as the captain must have woken up too!! He threw the motor into reverse – hard come about and we managed to miss that island by just a few meters. Everyone who wasn’t throwing up saw it and screamed! Was one harrowing experience.
No doubt it’s the fact that &8212;what, maybe 5, 6 million— people would have that exact reaction that explains why they’re really giving this mess the hush-hush treatment.
Goodnight, TOW.
Bring the dance and leave the guns.
And they say it the dentists who have the highest suicide rate.. not the butt doctors.
Two aps a friend of mine built, a de noiser similar to the one in Silkypix, and a, damn, I can’t translate this… It modifies shapes that are distorted because of lenses???
For those running Mickeysoft Os here are some Free on line links where you can help yourself fix many PC issues… sorry Mac people I don’t work on them:>(
liveonecare
To check for possible Viruses here is a link from Dell withthree of the most popular virus scanners free on line
What time of year was this trip?
I heard about ferry & cruise trips like this but never experienced it in the Med…
Just to add to the data pile, Firefox (linux) has been prone to sudden crashes since v.2, and I’ve yet to figure out a consistent pattern. Multiple windows and opening into a new tab, as I generally do, are involved, but tab number, application in new tab, etc., are variable. I always get a restore, though, sometimes including stuff in dialog boxes; does Ff do that in other versions?
Gotcha. Dfine from Nik does a nice job at noise reduction (I use it), and CS3 can pretty well compensate for barrel distortion from lenses (and other stuff too). But the bottom line is use what you’re comfortable with, it’s the easiest way to go… :)
nahant, could you fix that onecare link…!
I don’t have anything on my mind!
I use a really old and very slow PC with an earlier version of FF.
I did discover something about FF a while back, by looking at memory usage via Windows Taskmanager- the memory usage at FF keeps piling up and piling up, and clearing the cache doesn’t help. So, every so often I go in and close out FF using the WTM, and then restart. If you do it this way you get a message when you click to restart FF that says “FF closed unexeptedly do you wish to restore your session? “yes”. That’s how I deal with FF.
Late July or early August.. definitely HOT Summertime. Was such a wonderful trip and all.. I would do it all again.. haven’t thought about that ferry ride in years. I don’t think me or my wife quit shaking for a couple of days. And I like sailing in the SF bay or Mighty Pacific.
everyone do a hard refresh of the page and i think i fixed nahant’s link
Exactly, comfortable with those, and I tried CS3, aperture, Lightroom, and my stuff works fine… Why change
Pretty much. Magnatune has been integral to the streaming station i’m a part of in Second Life. I’m not so much part of the Facebook and Myspace crowd though. I’ve been on LiveJournal since 2003, when it was still invite only. It’s not much for music, but it’s great for following certain things in the anime/manga circles. Which is my other hobby. *grin* I come here to keep abreast of the things i need to know, while networking with my friends via that particular site.
fork, i didn’t fix it.. nahant, can you try that link again
I had similar problems with 1.5 on Linux. I don’t know if there were any earlier. If the problem is with Javascript, which it very well might given the complexity of trying to host an interpreter inside a browser, I’d guess that the problem might be getting more visibility now because there are more Javascript-dependent sites out there.
It’s been a real problem for me on two different Mac laptops (one three year old and one relatively new) in FF for about a month now.
Agreed. I write articles on some of those things, so I get to try them out “in depth” on occasion. But you’re right, if it works… isn’t broken…why mess with it?
Okay folks, it’s time for moi to go. Jean-Talon market later on this morning.
Bonne nuit tout le monde.
g’nite q
Goodnight, Quebecois.
Oh, so you’re the mod 2nite? Well, can I get you an apple? A cold beer? A pizza? I always want to be the “teachers (or moderators) pet”…LOL
g’ nite Q..
Aloha, Quebecois!
Nite Q… be kind to the Continuum… :)
i get a weird ff/utube hangup… the video starts and hangs at 0.02 on the clock and the sound disappears. can only be resolved by rebooting ff, restoring and then the forking video plays and there is sound. its not all the time, just every now and then. no discernible pattern.
Since the first of the year I have had several virus attacks….. it starts during the middle of the day while working and I could have Norton notify me up to 20some virus in a few hours….. then it happens the next day pretty much the same time. I spend an enormous amount of time getting rid of them, scans, wacking virus and trying to work with all this crazy stuff going on…..
If I ever could get my hands of the wackos who write the virus I would shake them until they had shaken baby syndrome…. really….
this would work well
Try this one… I forgot to add for the liveonecare you need to use IE… Sorry about that :>(
that time it worked – thanks nahant :)
Nite all…. heading off to bed…. see ya another night
LOL! Great video.
Forget good and evil for a moment, and just consider realpolitik. From that perspective alone, IMHO, Al Sadr is about the best deal we can get.
We won the cold war by putting despots on key squares on the global chess board, pushing aside democratically elected governments in Iran, Guatemala, Chile, and probably several others — an evil but successful tactic. And Saddam was almost as good against the Iranian Revolution wing of militant Islam, except that he’d give us backtalk from time to time and Israel’s right-wing thought that a U.S. presence in the region would be strategically beneficial to them.
Removing Saddam was a strategic departure, and fuckup. Al Sadr is the closest replacement currently on the horizon. He’s way less evil than Saddam, but compared to Saddam, he’s an insufferable religious dweeb. But we’ve never demanded perfection from our client dictators before. Why start now. So Iraqi women would have to wear burkas. That’s better than getting killed. Right?
Okay, I’m being more than a bit cynical, but if we’re going to leave in the next year, we’ll leave a less-than-ideal situation behind in any case. So, why not Al Sadr? (And, I’m not going to defend this suggestion to the death. Leila Fadul had some far less than kind things to say about the Mahdi Army on Moyer a week ago.)
g’nite katymine
Yeah, me too… wearing down. Sleep well fellow pups! Aloha!
Nite Katy, CT, Suz, Margot, Dosido, and anyone else I forgot!
g’nite jofish
*cough cough* our host, eureka springs?
Time to reboot PC Suz I used to experience that issue a few months ago….. thats one thing about mr gates OS that you need to do at least once a week or sooner if things slow down…. also find your TMP folders and clean them out…. mr gates Os doesn’t know how to automagicaly clear all it’s junk up…. Unix and Linux both do better at junk and widowed files up… I guess it just comes with the territory..
Al Sadr hates US.. that’s why.
Suz, what a fun song.
Goodnight, all. Gonna head out of here, too. Have a good weekend.
yeah, is what i do but i sure was hoping that last update to ff 2.0.0.14 was gonna fix it. now i’m gonna have to wait until ff 3.0 gets outta beta
g’nite cujo
Suz you running XP??? if so what service pack level are you at? To check open file manager and click on help and then about … should list SP1… SP2 or SP3 which is the latest
sp3
Easy way. Start > Settings > Control Panel > System.
I know but thanks
How are you doing there in Austin??…
Seems you are up to date with the OS… try running the live one care… but wait till you don’t need the Pc for a while can take a long time if you have a large hard drive…
ok – i think it is more a ff problem than my computer problem. they are on their 14th update to ver 2.0 and its wonky
Nahant, thanks, I didn’t know there was a service pack 3 . I always get Automatic Updates, too.
i didn’t until i looked at my control panel and saw i was 3.0 thought i was 2.0 and did not know there was even a 3.0 out there dang, the stuff i learn here at the lake
i have automatic updates too.
Another thing you can do is to run scandisk open file manger right click on C: select properties>tools Scandisk> click both repair boxes and after it asks to run on reboot select yes and then reboot when you are ready… it will take the rebooting a longer time as it scans and attempts to fix any problems…. this should be followed by a defrag of the hard drive…
Margot you may need to download SP3 from Microsoft’s download site…. http://www.microsoft.com/download..
Hope these hints help..
i run scandisck about once a month, defrag regularly (including offline defrag) along with all appropriate anti virus, anti spyware stuff.
So now we have private contractors shooting at Iranian boats…
…don’t see any bad outcomes there, nope, none at all.
reno just had a 4.9 quake
Wigwam, you really hadn’t read any of my posts at M&C, have you? Check out this, this, or even this one. And even today I wrote about al-Sadr and McInsane!
linkie
Aah, Cujo and Jo left the building, eh? ;-)
Do yo think under any circumstances Al Sadr would ever deal with US and allow bases to stay in iraq peacefully?
duh…
Oh great, contractors in Navy boats, with 50 cals.
Suz you do a good job maintaining your PC… you might try the links to the anti virus sites and the live one care… I do not have any problems with FF and I am on the same release…connection speed can also affect things so resetting the modem will reset the ISP connection… I do that when ever my connection seems to get slow.. test it here: http://www.abeltronica.com/vel…..newlang=uk
Hah, Fat Chance…! From al-Sadr’s own words today…
about time for me to bail pups. g’nite all. eureka, i gotta admit, i loved the title of this post :)
g’ nite Suz.. rest well, and thanks!
Aloha, Ma Cheri!
By the way that was a great post today over there at http://www.mainandcentral.org/ CT
Good night Suz….. I will heading in the same direction… good night pups… see you here at the lake later
Great story. Appears you were indeed introduced to the meltemi:
Mahalo, nahant! Aloha!
Well, Moyers and Wright are on now here in the Isles! I shall bid a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Yes, but so did Saddam. Nevertheless, he served a useful strategic purpose, witness the fact that Rumsfeld used to be Reagan’s personal ambassador to Saddam.
Saddam’s problem was that he gave GWB credit for too much intellect. He couldn’t/wouldn’t believe that the U.S. would be so stupid as to kill such a golden realpolitik arrangement. He was sure that we knew that he didn’t have WMD programs, and that he was only pretending to have them to enhance his status in the region. OOPS!
yes, that must be it.. I remember folks mentioning it was seasonal. Must have killed many ancient sailors.
g’ nite ct
Thank you so much, nahant. We are so lucky to have such talented and nice people here.
I managed to keep from getting seasick by closing my eyes and imagining I was on a giant water bed.. Somehow that worked.
That’s pretty powerful stuff. I’m not ready to crown him the George Washington of Iraq, but …
I’m supposed to be gone much of the day tomorrow, and every Saturday Morning, Phoenix Woman has her saturday-morning post, always good. In case I’m not around to do it, would someone please ask her what the hell is wrong with Minnesota that Norm Coleman is out-polling hometown-boy Al Franken? (These are the folks who elected Jesse “the body” Ventura as their governor … Yes, damnit, I know … California didn’t do significantly better.
Al is one of my political heros. He did much to set me straight about what’s been going on in the U.S. during last decade. And, I appreciate and respect him for that.
If I make it, you can count on me passing your inquiry along.
For now.. I bid you a good night.

I have no idea how to read this, but it looks like the debate did more damage than I expected.
Is that national?
This is from TPM Election Central -> [View More Polls].

Re JCS Chairman Mike mullen: http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..eheadlines
The money quote is
Both Iran and the U.S. oppose Al Sadr, the strongest man in Iraq, and both oppose him for the same reason. IMHO, he is the key to our getting out of there with some shred of dignity left. But YMMV
Yes they have and it about time that America was reeled in from their “we are the world” positing. I vote for a UN resolution calling on America to stop trying to be a regional power in the ME.
I’m sure that would be a resolution we would enforce. Funny how protecting the integrity of the UN is something we either care about enough to go to war over, or don’t care about at all, depending on the resolution.
Just like we enforce the 200,000 resolutions condemning Israel for their occupation, imprisonment and destruction of the Palestinian peoples.
Buenos dias, amigos mios!

Did anyone know that the Washington Post had a blog called Washington Post Investigations? I didn’t until today. I accidently found it while looking for Froomkin’s blog. Judging by the minimal amount of comments on each of the entries it looks like there aren’t very many people who know about it.
http://blog.washingtonpost.com…..tigations/
Here are the titles of some of the entries
A Sticking Point in the Farm Bill
Justice Official Pleads Guilty in Abramoff Case
Check McCain’s Tax Return
Air Force Contract Under Investigation
thanks pmorlan, I hadn’t seen that before.
lmao!
I just started listening to Eureka’s song
Good Morning
They have this one too called Just Posted. Evidently the Post is remodeling and may be adding new features. The just posted site tells you what they are adding.
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/just-posted/
Good morning.
morning!
-and thanks for that too, pmorlan
I need to get up to speed on twitter.
-Morning eCAHN! I read about your close encounters with brush, I felled a hundred trees yesterday; ok most of them were seedlings, I admit, but not all and I used muscles I don’t ordinarily use. I may regret the whole affair later on.
-Millineryman, what is for breakfast? I like to breakfast virtually through you while I eat my Cheerios (which I needed this morning, having awaken on the wrong side of the bed)
yo selise!
Wrong side of the bed you say? I’m trying the oatmeal pancakes recipe that Christy posted the other night while I try to remain calm and centered.
did you tell ecahn that she missed a bush?
… (sorry ecahn and elliot, couldn’t help myself).
You’re welcome.
I took advantage of the fact that no one had commented yet on their Just posted site and suggested that they hire Glenn Greenwald as a columnist. LOL
Hey to you. What was the purpose of taking down the trees? My work is all with dead stuff (well, mostly all) that falls off trees, or trees that fall. I cart it to the burn pile & burn it. I was quite lucky as early last week there was a 3500 acre forest fire up on the mountain (they think a cigarette butt started it), and they banned burning in the whole county. I didn’t get caught even though my new the burn pile is visible from the road. But then, I never let it get too big. Gather up a load, pile it on, and by the time I get back with the next load, it’s burned down to smouldering big pieces.
Would love to cart that one off to the burn pile, sigh.
nom nom nom
Oatmeal pancakes sound so good and made with cinnamon and nutmeg! Mm-mMmm
if I left now, I could be there in time for clean-up and leftovers…
you burn it? oh, man – think of the compost you’re could be generating. sigh.
i just checked – sadly, i’m almost out of eggs (forgot them when i went shopping this week) – only 1 left. so i’ll have to book mark that recipe for later.
Don’t you hate when that happens!
It’s wood. Doesn’t make good compost. Would need a chipper to turn it into mulch and that would make the whole thing into a much less manageable project. Besides, I have things like a 100′ tall, 2′ diameter weeping willow that fell down. Hard to do anything other than cut it up & burn it.
You’re always welcome, and I do love to cook. I have to issue an warning about breakfast though, I’m really bad at cooking it. That;’s why every dinner in a 5 mile radius knows my name.
It sounds really interesting, and I try to avoid wheat as much as possible. I don’t have celiac’s disease, I find my body function much better without it.
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins and Herbert today. La Collins writes about “McCain’s Compassion Tour,” and says John McCain is fearless when it comes to delivering unpleasant news to people who are probably not going to vote for him. Bob Herbert says we’re “Heading Toward the Danger Zone,” and that despite all the new voters who have been brought into the process, Democrats are filled with anxiety about their prospects in November.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got waffles with syrup or, if you prefer, fresh berries to put on top. I’m off to go hunting and gathering for plants and mulch and bird seed. Have a great day.
Oh, here’s another story selise. Some friends who have a similar house & property, lost 2 gigantic white pine trees in a wind storm about 2 months ago. One actually fell on their son’s girlfriend’s car only a couple of minutes before they went outside for her to drive home. It was completely crushed & she would have been dead, but for a couple of minutes. They’re going to burn the small stuff, but they’re bringing in a guy with a portable sawmill to turn some of the large trunk pieces into boards.
Downed trees are a constant source of work, surprisingly, if you have more than a couple of acres.
I’m jealous Marion,
as a rule we don’t set plants out here till Mother’s Day.
just around the corner tho < insert smile here >
in his later years, my father did a lot of woodworking and often turned bowls from trees that he – with help- took down, cut up and cured. My favorite serving dish is a wooden platter he turned from “Blue Marsh Black Cherry”
Then I guess I shouldn’t tell you about the blossoms on my tomato plants? [ducks flying object]
Nice. Objects made from wood always maintain a sense of life, in addition to their other artisanal qualities.
It does make good potash though. Very useful for sprinkling around tommies to keep away the pesky slugs. Also helps to keep leaves from yellowing.
lol!
I do spread the ash around at the end of the exercise.
I’m off. Supposed to rain tomorrow, so today could be my last push outside. Catch up with you later.
ecahn – i know you get asked about this whenever the topic comes up, so i expect you may be mightily sick of it by now…. if so just ignore me.
was reading kevin phillips’ new article in harpers, “Numbers Racket”(pdf) discussed the history of the fed gov cooking the book on the number (he focusses primarily on unemployment, but also inflation and gdp).
he claims that if the measure of just 25 years ago were used our current numbers would be:
unemployment – “9 to 12 percent”
inflation – “as high as 7 or even 10 percent”
i’ve been following bernhard’s series on “Fed Rate Cut Kills People” (installment #4). and it seems to me that there is a case for massive cooking of the books. if so, this isn’t only another example of gov. lies, could also be contributing to the wrong policies – that in the end make thing worse, not better.
i’m glad your neighbors are ok, and i certainly wasn’t suggesting leaving rotting trees on the ground near the house. i just mourn the lost of habitat and contribution to the soil life-cycle.
lol epu’ed again.
