With 76% reporting — Clinton 54%, Obama 46%
NBC’s Chuck Todd, who’s the best political analysts out there, says that of the 50 percent of Pa. votes not tallied yet, a large number of these are in Philadelphia and especially the suburbs — most notably Montgomery County, which is an Obama stronghold. If that’s the case, Clinton’s margin will surely dip below 8-10 percent, where it’s at now.
Mrs. Clinton did not get the big win in Pennsylvania that she needed to challenge the calculus of the Democratic race.

Bitter!

There’s still no #’s out of Chester Co….
Less than she hoped for!
The Bitter Beer Face commercial is doubly apt, because PA is the Keystone State.
pancakes
Howdy Jane
Chester is one of the exburbs of Philly…!
orange juice w/ pulp
sure!
Kwatz!
WooHoo Jane – FDL field trip to Guam eh?
LOL!
Looks like no knockout punch in the late rounds, but Obama continues to land effective punches and the judges scorecards will show a split decision in his favor.
Guam? Who’d a thunk it?
Bob in HI
my new corner of the world.
Pennsylvania Department of State:
With 71.29% in,
Clinton 866,050 54.3%
Obama 730,060 45.7%
cool boxing metaphor. what can you do for soccer or basketball?
yum!
Guam will not have had this much attention since WWII. How exciting!?!?!?
Interesting. He is concentrating on McCain. Me likey
Kos has the delegates at 37 C to 31 O
I like Obama going after McCain hard … good job to take it to the real enemy.
Obama is slamming McCain tonight. More of this, please.
Bitter hell almost took her leg off….
Digg it folks
The Sheikh says “Get that weak shit outa my house!”
Hey Millineryman, big hug to you too! (just saw that in the last thread)
Who knew Indiana had cute Abercrombie & Fitch boys (behind Barack)?
Funny, I couldn’t listen to Hillary more than a few seconds. Am I biased in thinking she looked and sounded smug?
But Barack, easy listening. His supporters don’t sound too discouraged, do they?
I’m glad to hear that Obama is focusing on McCain.
And my family, too! Obama people all, even the old ones.
Yes! More, more, more!
CNN just updated their delegate count to 40 – 37, in favor of Clinton. How odd.
*giggling* I saw them and was just about to ask was it their umm integrity?
Oh, goody!
Cool, too, that you vote for delegates on the ballot.
Hillary won the 8th round, but she’s down by 6 points on the judges’ cards.
thats a big 3 delegate take
Let’s catch up on Facebook soon. I’m slowly getting back into it.
Eli xxxxxxxxxoooooooooo
Hah !
Hi, sadly!
Losing is a Victory !
keep hitting mccain. start campaigning for the ge now.
There are 187 to assign tonight, so we have a long way to go.
big yawn if she beats BHO by 3 delegates
yea folks get out your checkbooks/
Definitely!
Always liked that actually … naming who you sent to represent you.
hehehe let me guess the chanting is proof that it is a cult, right?
My friends, it’s time to rub out the presidential aspirations of that mass of contradictions known as John McCain.
better yet, volunteer!!!! If you can.
I haven’t seen that one– I thought they drank Rolling Rock in PA!
yup!
there is NO mathematical way she can win
game set match…bloody Mary …shower
Obama’s already out with an email saying on to the next … well timed. His net team does really smart work.
amen
Is Obama shifting gears pray tell??? Overdrive????
Sic ‘em’
I think you are starting to catch on…
Cool, too, that you vote for delegates on the ballot.
I don’t like it, personally. It confuses people.
Finally, they’re reporting…
it was snark against Hill supporters
Voting for delegates: In our district there weren’t even 5 delegates to vote for that supported Clinton. They will assign 3 men and 2 women. I guess that means at least one of Obama’s delegates will make the cut.
au contraire. Here’s the way.
I realize the Republican race has been over a long time, so the protest vote will be more likely to come out than others, but still: McCain only gets 72% of the Republican votes! That number needs a lot of attention.
I just recieved mine too. True, time to call the folks in Indiana *g*. I tell you, when he becomes the next pres, I want to be there at his inaugaration
My E-Mail to Clinton…
Ms. Clinton,
This is to inform you if you manage to steal the nomination from Barack Obama, for the first time in my life, I will not vote in the presidential election.
There was a line in the wonderful television series “The West Wing” in which John Spencer’s character said, “I’m tired of year after year, voting for the lesser of who cares?”
You, ma’am, are beyond my lower limit of who cares.
First thing you did was write that detestable book “It Takes a Village,” in which you advocated placing a greater share of the burden on the backs of the childfree, a description I wear with pride.
Then you voted to authorize George W. Bush’s war intentions. And you made that vote without even reading the information necessary to make an informed decision, you relied on a staffer’s summary of the information. You sided with BUSH. ANd yet, despite being proven as wrong as anyone can be, instead of owning up to it and saying, “I’m sorry, I really screwed the pooch on that one,” you make stupid, lame excuses, you triangulate and you spin.
Ma’am, you screwed the pooch. As a result of screwing the pooch, you have the blood of more than 4000 Americans and untold thousands of Iraqi civilians on your hands.
Finally, in the 2006 election, you supported Joe Lieberman. I know why you did – you are a feminine version of Joe Lieberman, a closet Republican. Your support of Lieberman nauseated me.
So you see, ma’am, because I have a conscience, because I have the courage of my convictions and because I believe you are little better than Dick Cheney, I cannot vote for you, now or ever.
By the way, Bill needs to be told his better days are behind him and he needs to shut his trap. He’s making you look like an idiot.
With due respect
ThatGuy
Prediction: It ain’t gonna be about the math.
I’m a little slow sometimes *g*
i love the snark of that
I actually used this for some of the debate threads last week…
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pLYxRWjHzwQ
I don’t see how, about as straight forward a you can get, with whom the delegate is commited to next to thier name.
she really aint gonna take on an angry crowd of 1.5 million Obama donors is she? now thats BAD JUDGEMENT?”g”
((Riesz)) long time…how are you?
Though it looks like Penn. will only decrease the delegate lead by 3% it looks like (if I have the numbers right) it decreases the popular vote lead from 700K to 500K.
Hmmm….
You know, pups, listening to the candidate who is lately being criticized for being “just” a great speaker, reminds me what I’ve been reading in Doris Goodwin’s Team of Rivals.
Again and again Goodwin quotes contemporaries who heard Lincoln speak or debate and were won over to him completely as a candidate for President. I need to start marking passages, can’t remember precisely, but those political experts of the mid-19th century believed that speaking skill (and talent) were a substantive sign of an intelligence and character that boded well for Lincoln as president.
I don’t understand why we have come to the opposite conclusion today, that speaking well demonstrates nothing. Is it because Reagan taught us to assume everyone is merely acting when they speak passionately?
I’m loving this speech, frankly.
Future President Obama is nailing it tonight.
The number of delegates are assigned entirely based on the popular vote for the candidates themselves in each congressional district.
Examples of her and Bill’s bad judgment are by now legion.
All is well.
KO disputes Tweety’s love of Hill’s speech tonite.
Hi wobblybits! Yeah I’ve been layin’ low, sick of the bitter primary. How are you doin’?
I’m reading the same book right now, and have the same reaction.
One big difference: the book I’m reading belongs to the public library, and they’d probably be less than pleased if I marked it up.
Many people think that if they failed to vote for delegates, their candidate wouldn’t get any delegates. I had to explain this to many people.
Tweety liked Hill’s speech more than Obama’s
Dude ! How’s it goin’, eh ?
I vacilate between great and pissed. But it’s almost over. Glad to see you though
LOL. Well, my copy belongs to my ex, but I’m not so sure he’s going to get it back.
But, I like tiny post-it notes instead of scribbling, mostly.
Tweety is an *ss. Nothing new there,
This may be my last update of the evening.
Pennsylvania Department of State:
With 78.23% in,
Clinton 958,058 54.0%
Obama 815,311 46.0%
The problem is there is no knockouts allowed anymore. She’d have to sweep all the rest of the states by 66% of the votes to overcome Obama in delegates…and Obama may even be able to negotiate in Florida and Michigan as a chit to win over the remaining Super Delegates.
Thus he becomes the great unifier of the Party!
Considering that Obama had to run against the machine, he did well
at least we won’t have to hear any more of tweety’s philly talk
well that sways me about tis much——
yeah there is that…
The Beard has it 55/45 for HRC …
Hi Petrocelli! That’s right, you’re from Canada, eh? Toronto if IIRC.
Also, that Reagan only told us what we wanted to hear.
Lincoln told people what he believed they needed to hear.
His desire to tell difficult truths sharpened his eloquence.
Bad news for Hillary … *g*
It’s also on audiobook, FYI.
I was just about to say that … thank you!
Tweety playing working class PA was just too much
Meant to say, I’m glad you feel the same way–sometimes I wonder if I’m wrong, if the times have really changed what’s valuable.
But I tend to think we had better presidents when voters turned out for 3-hr debates than when we listen to swelled-head pundits carping about bowling scores and pastors.
Yep, the city without a real NHL team … *g*
Obama’s folks just emailed link for his speech as prepared if anyone needs it … http://my.barackobama.com/page…..sen/gGCB2S
Sen. Clinton’s folks don’t seem to do this or I’d add that to the comments as well.
She could potentially pull it out if she scored huge wins in all the remaining states. I just don’t see that happening.
She hasn’t been mathematically eliminated, but it’s hard for me to see a realistic scenario where she wins the nomination. There’s the Pyrrhic Victory scenario, but I don’t think that’s going to happen either.
BTW, there was other votes cast outside of PA today! In a shocker, in Mississippi(MS-01), the Dem won but fell 400 votes shy of avoiding a runoff…
Yeah but now Obama has to face that upstart from North Carolina … Hillary Tar Heel Clinton … /s
Wow RNCof north carolina is going to introduce a commercial with the ‘controversial figures in Obama’s life. Timmeh says…race is being injected into the race
OMG republicans going to run racist ads against obama in NC
They score!!!!
Go Sharks!!!
(I want the Wings to play the Avs. I love the smell of melting Avalanche in the morning!)
yep.
cannot wait til I hear this:
“I (Barack Hussein Obama) do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
so help me and the DFHs and the rest of the world.
Where she used to regularly go duck hunting, right?
Soccer. It’s penalty kick shootout and Team Obama has scored three consecutive shootout goals, while Team Hill has missed their first two. That means she needs to get the next three and hope Obama’s star forwards kick right at the keeper…JUST to go into sudden death shoot-out.
Basketball, down 30 points at the end of the third. Wait! There’s someone down at the end of the tunnel to the locker rooms handing a ref a fat envelope!
.
Yes, exactly! He led on the major issue of the day, slavery. Admittedly, he didn’t get way out in front of “the people,” who were horrified at the thought of allowing black folk to (gasp) vote, but nonetheless, he led by word and deed, in office.
I would be shocked if they *didn’t*.
I’m almost glad to hear it. First because it suggests desperation, and second because I think it’ll backfire–if not in NC, then elsewhere.
… before knocking down some jays …
Sharks? Shouldn’t they be up against the Jets?
What do you mean, haven’t the ‘Leafs been doing well this year? I’m from the Detroit area and we hardly ever play them so I haven’t kept up.
More like down 10 points at the end of the fourth, hoisting three-pointers and fouling the other team.
woohoo I am sooooo ready for that
… thereafter, Buchanan/Limbaugh/Bennett spontaneously combust …
hehehehe thanks *g*
there ya go!
With Scaife in her pocket, what does she need DFHs for anyway?
I would remind him the sage advice made by one HRC “There ARE NO COMMITTED DELEGATES! Any delegate can change their vote”…[for me, of course]!
Flaming Goopers?
I thought Morning Joe assured us that they want Obama to win. :)
Obama is slamming McCain tonight. More of this, please.
Yup.
It’s time for Obama to start behaving as THE candidate.
The General Election has started. Let ‘er roll….
Hey, just got home from teaching a seminar …are you all watching the same tv I’m watching? What I’m hearing isn’t what I’m seeing here.
Well I’m not surprised that they will play the race card and I think it will eventually backfire on them (at least in the GE). bring it on, I’m sure as a man of color, he has heard it all before. Just goes to show that they have nothing else to atttack him on.
Who could have anticipated . . .
In that same vein, the DNC had a great ad running this evening on MSNBC (I saw it about 15 minutes before the PA polls closed), taking sound bites from McCain speeches (”Things are going great”) and contrasting them with actual headlines and photos — gas prices up, foreclosures up, no end of the war in sight, etc.
On a night where the coverage was going to center on Obama and Clinton, it was a nice reminder of why Democrats are so passionate about their primary race: we want McCain beaten, along with the rest of his party.
Yum.
The Leafs did extremely well … in 1968 !!!
Since then, not so much … missed the playoffs 3 years in a row …
now that would be fun to see
angie, yes! Yes we can :-)
Tweety tells a truth: “Another victory for cable television tonight!”
Just saw that ad… it was great
He scoooooooooooores!!!!!!
3-2 Sharks!
“Macaca” worked soooo well for George Allen.
Looking forward to when “McCaca” catches on.
… which is why the blogs are thriving …
… before knocking down some jays …M
Pardon me?
jay’s can be a whole lot meaner than you might think….
Yep Hillary won as expected but her margin won’t be such that it makes much of an imapct. So off we plod to Indiana and North Carolina (where the RNC has promised us a race bated campaign)
Well, at least they have the best fighter in the league– they still have Domi, right?
I love the way Tweety talks all solemn distressed about the possibility of a racist attack from the RNC … but will hype it as much as possible when it happens.
Jay-tipping is a very popular sport where I come from.
Yeah, Indiana and North Carolina are both southern states. :-)
Loved that ad, yup, let’s get on with the GE, Obama survived all the negative bullshit
Yeah but it still turns my stomach. How many kids are going to see this garbage. I can’t wait to see the repugs of color spin this bullshit.
Hey jayt, see the end of the last thread for the info you were looking for…
All that fat burning might cause the Polar ice cap to melt …
Now that North Carolina matters, I wonder if either Edwards will say who they are voting for?
Basketball phrase (I think)
Yeah, I’m sure his widdle heart will shatter. What a media whore.
Great point.
John waited for a reason.
Hmmm, funny I just realized that it is possible now to actually follow hockey on teevee with HD, game seven huh?
the parenthesis only applied to North Carolina, where the RNC said they will run the ads and the MSM will repeat them instead of ignore them and so on and so on. The RNC will say to us dems, do you stand with such people? We say, yes.
Good god. I’ve got a girlfriend guest over tonight who’s watching American Idol. This is driving me nuts.
Domi retired 2 years ago … he was a Pit Bull though …
As long as you meet Tweety’s exacting standards of manliness, you can pretty much do whatever you want.
i thought double digits was supposed to be the threshold of good…
If the Repugs are actually running racially based smear ads in North Carolina I would have to think that this is at the behest of the new Party leader who could stop it if he were a decent man.
I guess he will have to be known as “John McCacacaine”…has Allen endorsed him yet???
Rachel calling Pat on his prediction last nite: 6-12 points
Ha!
McCaca! Beautiful.
Who is more intolerable, Tweety or Simon?
Dam ES’s post appeared and I dugg it then the post disappears WTF … hey mods what is going on this tiome??
uh oh.
Allen introduced McCain at CPAC this year (their Coulterfest)
sharks on pwer play, hey I like any sport in which it is men who have periods
I always thought they would stay on the sidelines to act as unifiers after the nomination … now I think they should step in and choose a side to end this quicker …
I predicted that McCain’s campaign, and/or its sleazy surrogates, would go racial. I’m sure I’m the only person on earth who saw it coming.
Went up early; pulled until its time.
hmmm … I think Pat Buchanan has not seen the NYT yet
I love your sense of humor – it also keeps me in line…
fist-bump?
It’s all about the delegates. And the PA DoS does not show a double digit percentage lead the way CNN is showing.
http://www.electionreturns.state.pa.us/
Looks to me like Obama packs great big rooms full o’ white folks wherever he goes. I’d be one of ‘em, but I live in Floriduh.
yeah but not 10% she needed a blowout
So…you sweat, don’t wash it all off, use Old Spice and put a couple of socks in your crotch, grip his hand and bare your teeth…? would that do it? Do you have to do all the alpha male things?
You got it, dude.
Is Simon on 6 times a day ?
real nice………since he has a black adopted daughter
Now thats a low blow
I think you’ve probably just described the minimum requirements.
“You must be at least as macho as this sign…”
No, The NYT went to press too soon.
sharks gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaal
If only … that’s the only time they stop fighting … *g*
I’m biting my tongue here………………………
He may or may not be personally racist… but his campaign will be, and the Republican dirty tricksters will be. And he will do nothing to stop it.
I know but Indiana is sometimes referred to as “the northern most southern state”– people there are very religious, they have a southern-sounding accent, and they are very “conservative” about racial issues, if you catch my drift. I have some relatives there and it’s true.
They scored again :>) Sharks 4 to 2 over Flames!!!-
Things are moving pretty fast.
It will be back.
At least with Tweety there is someone who takes over once in a while to report some news.l.
He scoooooores!!!!!!!!
5-2 Sharks!!!!!
5-2
yeah, i see what your saying. assholes are the world over
well how will the little girl feel about that…guess pops doent care
hey I am a good luck charm 5-2
((( Petro ))) thank you for showing some love for Ovechkin and the Caps, a thread or two ago…
He has promised to stop it, and you know he’s a man of his word…. honorable, etc.
Besides, now there’s YouTube.
Hill in Phil sez Obama Chill
Like hell he will
Hey TLM!
I haven’t seen this much scoring since the last time I was on a troop transport
meaning no disrespect, of course
5 to 2 now go SHARKS
are we there yet?
OMG republicans going to run racist ads against obama in NC
Oh republics, please, please, please be that stupid. I hope that people will finally see what the rightards are all about. Just disgusting on so many levels.
Hiya Margot!
Since that daughter is left out of all campaigning as far as I can see …they don’t seem to care, eh? or want her seen?
argh
Obama has a very large lead in North Carolina. If the ads have an effect it will have a triple consequence. It will taint any gains that Hillary actually would have been made without them (thus making her gains less valuable in convincing Super Delegates). It will taint the Republican Party (while likely incensing and mobilizing Democrats in November). It will “immunize” the State against any efforts to use this tactic in November- ignorant “hate” works…but is hard to sustain. And it will deplete their campaign coffers in a race in which they really shouldn’t gain much from.
Pretty stupid strategy in my view. But then they are desperate.
He will have my grudging admiration if he does, but he can’t. And probably won’t even try.
((((( LL )))))
He really is the most exciting player in the game … those 2 young uns in Pittsburgh are pretty good too …
Aloha, Jo! Did ya see my latest…? ;-)
i just looked, it shows a double digit lead.
Can’t campaign against Scary Brown People when you have one standing right next to you.
Not that i will work, it just gets tiresome
Oh Lord, they’re calling this a decisive victory … any delegate count yet ?
Good evening Margot.
:-)
I love my wingnut relatives, even though they say things like “ebonics”.
a few more minutes. stop kicking your sister and be careful you don’t spill that drink.
I had a guest last week who didn’t know who Keith Olberman is, nor TDS or Stephen Colbert…
Hey Jo, hi LL, everyone.
I just gave $25 to Obama. I’ll give more when I get my tax refund. No WAY I’m letting HRC get the nomination without a fight.
Now THAT’s ironic. I wonder if Allen asked about McCain’s adopted “Macaca”? How McCain could stand to be on the same podium as someone so despicable is beyond me…Allen referred to a dark-skinned person of South Asian descent and a US citizen as a MONKEY. And then acted as if no one but White people were Americans?
Gacccck! McCain…where is his ethics?
just reply with ‘honkytalk’ shuts them up everytime
Send a letter to the Edwards.. Tell them it’s time to back Obama.
that or introduce them to a brit who will tell them how ignorant they sound
It is okay. It just means she stays in the race. That is okay. She has not “beaten” Obama …it means that voters want Dems…HRC and Obama. This is just a primary…
It’s okay…because, if they team up in the end…the Neocons are toast. If they don’t team up…well, that could be a problem, but there are others out there who can do this. If Obama gets knocked out, not likely, well, then…that is a problem.
A win for HRC is a good thing. The dream team will get rid of the Neocons….
Getting rid of Bush III is the issue.
I’m sure the native americans can attest to the real americans
his ethics are at Barney’s.
in the underwear aisle.
gacck is right.
ptooey and more.
Mc…..
I agree, and I just heard on MSNBC E. Edwards may show up at Clinton events. That would make me change my mind about her right then and there.
Whoa, whoa! Some of that applies to different parts of the state. Southern Indiana residents (say, Martinsburg and south) often came from Kentucky and points south; they do sound quite southern (or “hillbilly”) to the rest of the state.
Central Indiana has a very standard tv-announcer-Midwest norm accent, with a few exceptional word pronunciations.
Northern Indiana is not “southern” at all.
Still some substantial counting going on in Wayne and Montgomery Counties (the latter sort of NE of Philly). Most other areas in, though. My guess is that it’ll fall under double digits.
So, um, the northernmost southern southern half?
Eureka Springs, letter sent.
Hillary is not a Democrat. I will not vote for her. Yeah, I’m pretty pissed this evening.
Always helps to DO something..) Thanks for bringing it to my mind, I will do the same in the morning.
Indiana accents/southernness part 2
(hit the send button by accident)
Northern Indiana is the most industrial, or should I say, was, part of the state, and is heavily populated with descendants of Eastern European ‘ethnics”, African-Americans (especially toward the northwest, around Chicago), and, yes, Mexican-Americans, recent and 3rd generation or more. Their “accent” is pure Midwest.
Trust me, I’ve spent chunks of my life in central and southern Indiana. Oh, and in a past life, studied way too much linguistics/speech patterns.
The Hoosier state may well be more red even than when I left there — after all, so many of us liberals did leave — but it is not monolithic, by any means. And they would not much like to be pegged as southern, I think.
oh well – the narrative is changing….. hrc has caught a wave
Yes, Eli, exactly! (I’m joking, but I did leave off half my wonky argument by an accidental “send” click)
I am sad and BITTER too, but, tomorrow I’m going to be back on my game. I will vote for any Dem on the ticket. Hi Margot! And why am I getting a 404 for the last 55 minutes for Late Late Nite?
sleep well, ll (this was commenced when we had 31 comments)
off to the next thread. poor hamsters are passing more beachballs.
I will too but I’m working hard to make sure that the name is Brack Obama
Me too! Thanks wobbly!
Hillary just raised $3 million in the last three hours and monkeys just flew out of Lannie Davis’s ass
Somebody has to do a photoshop of Hoosiers with obama winning at the buzzer
Down to the last 1% of precincts outstanding and still at Hillary plus ten percent. Looks as if it’s going to hold up.
It’s hard to function, isn’t it?
Hey, Margot!
I don’t think it’s possible to put -George Allen- and -ethics-in the same sentence.
Do you think that’s still possible? I would still love the dream team, but with Obama on top. Are you dreaming???
Ok, am I the only one who is thinking the republican party is scared to death of Obama, it seems every day, I hear another GOP pundit or party official talking about sending out republicans to vote for Hillary and now I just heard that the NC GOP is going to be putting out an add attacking Obama as well. I think the GOP wants Hillary to win because they believe they can beat her. Any thoughts on this?
Rush limbaugh, a piece of excrement if there ever was one, promotes what he calls Operation Chaos in which Repubs are encouraged to switch parties in order to vote for Hillary. So far as I know, no figures have been compiled in PA as to how many did this, but apparently the number was substantial, and apparently it is available if someone takes the trouble to root it out. I do not understand why Obama does not speak to this because it goes to the heart of our democracy. You either believe in democracy or you don’t and if you do, everyone is entitled to their vote and to have it counted correctly. To manipulate the process is to destroy it. I think Hillary, like Lieberman, won because of the Repubs. It says a lot about Democrats who tolerate this behavior without protest and it says a lot about Republicans who participate in the process.
What worries me about Barack is his seeming rope a dope strategy, his campaign points out the stats and wants to let the Clintons punch their way out of money. Indeed, forcing the Clintons to spend is the right approach. But rope a dope is base on coming off the ropes at the right point and scoring a KO. When is that going to happen?
