W’sup?
Hi Suzanne….. waving from Phoenix….
Suz!
Suzzanne!
Toons!
g’evening pups.. fair warning – i only had 3 hours sleep before being rudely awoken by a very pushy real estate agent who did not bother to read the listing in enough detail to grasp that it says i work nights and to not call in the morning. after the showing, i was unable to get back to sleep and now i am very very cranky
did i mention cranky?
ya’ll are very lucky the lurkster is moderating tonight (laughing)
Love the Looney Toons!
Share ‘em with my kids
Wearing helmet & pads back here.
Good evening Suzanne.
does the guy with the fiddle remind ya’ll of anyone currently a head of state?
where is bugs when we need him?
Well just for that
I dugg it!
I live in Vegas, where sleeping is against the law. But, smoking and drinking are mandatory.
hmmmm, i see you remember what the last time that i was without sleep was like.
night
thanks, nahant
would be ideal if it wasn’t for that whole being in a desert, bobby g. i do not do hot well either.
g’nite bfl
But hot is free, whereas staying warm in a cold climate costs a lot.
Yeah, I know you pay to stay cool when it’s 115F here in the summer.
now that i’m no longer working the streets, i like the rain
I used to live in Seattle. I dug the rain as well.
Like Vegas though.
I’m still on east coast time….
btw have a kind of funny story from my week in NYC…. went to the grocery story which was a couple of blocks from the hotel at around 8pm….. Elmore was with me….. standing on the corner waiting for the light to change…. out of nowhere….. I am struck on the right side of my chest with a raw egg at quite a velocity…. knocks the breath out of me and hurt like a son of a b*tch…. after the first few seconds where I thought I had been a victim of a driveby shooting….. turning the air blue ….. saying OMG that hurts….and having raw egg dribble down my coat…..had a nice bruise from the egg attack….
here’s a movie to go with tonight’s cartoon
they got the pictures fixed downstairs…
I’m goin’ back to my Shiraz and my book (Taleb’s “The Black Swan“)
Later.
g’nite bobby g
Hi Suz, hi everyone.
Katy, I’m real glad you’re all right.
AH gotsta AH SAY ah gotsta have me some moah tasty rum.
Foghorn Leghorn is one of my faves in the WB barnyard.
Jeez, katymine – weird.
Glad you’re ok.
featuring los angeles in tonight’s newsreel
g’nite dr (pause) dick
Night all, time for me to get my beauty sleep (I need all the help I can get).
whoops, wrong thread… never mind
ok, since dr dick came to this thread, never mind my never mind (laughing)
Me too….. the hardest part was calming down Elmore…. we was ready to kick some butt….. call the cops and I kept telling him that the NYC cops have more important things to do than deal with someone who got egged….
that musta been so horrible katymine. i know i wudda immediately thought i had been caught in someone’s line of fire.
i do remembering eggs hurting when my sister and i just happened to get into an egg fight but she never had a really good arm.
i also remember my mother’s reaction. she was not happy even though i tried to point out to her that we were outside so as not to muss up the house.
now that intermission is over, time for another cartoon
some smart assed kid flinging eggs out of high rise apartments for enjoyment… me the former trauma nurse having that three seconds of imagination gone wild…..
Ready!
wow Katymine! that is just horrible! Not just for the fact of it, but because of the mental stuff you went through. Glad you are okay!
yeap, my b/p wudda been topped out while doing a quick check for bleeding while looking all around for where the fire came from – all in a duck and cover position… i probably wudda been dragging whomever i was with behind the closest cover i could find.
you certainly had a memorable trip
That’s a new one!
OMG katymine…any idea why this happened? Election stuff? Just totally random?
Best safe wishes, katymine. BE SAFE.
that one is just the song.. this is the actual cartoon – tis from the Ranger of Brownstone series that ran on Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color.
Wow, Katy… That only bolsters my dislike of NYC… And FTFY!
Good evening dear friends. I brought you some Passover candies from the seder I attended.
training
comes in handy here, too
even weird al digs toons
Suz, I know I’m late on giving you the Betty Boop. Here’s the best I can find on YouTube.

That works.
OMG, Screw-up!

g’nite katymine
Howdy, Tex! Aloha, Katy!
Her Betty Boop link didn’t post!
NO! I screwed up with the the cartoons up! Not you, Suz.
okay, I need some late nite help. And, this IS totally OT.
As many of you know, I am teaching a Freshman Seminar titled “Science and the Citizen”. And, one way or another, info that various FDLers have posted has been a godsend for me. My teaching support group!
If anyone can weigh in on the following, especially with links, I would be most most grateful.
I’ve been having a continuing conversation with my FS class, and I was wondering if anyone remembers the kerfuffle about Gore’s house and energy usage. I really don’t know what to think about that, so any solid info and links would be most appreciated.
sleep well katymine
See there? I can’t even construct a sentence properly.
They just built a completely green housing development in Austin. Let me see if I can find out more about it.
come sit over here with me loohoo, i can’t type for shit tonight either
How’s this? Catellus’ Mueller Airport Project in Texas Named One of the Nation’s Best Eco-Friendly…
also http://www.muelleraustin.com/
I just remember the wingnuts accusing Gore of being a hypocrite for living in a big house but ignored the part of him buying energy from green sources and paying extra for it.
tennessee center for policy research is a good place to start
link goes to a page about gore’s house
iirc, this was the hit piece that generated the controversy
Regarding the earlier “When Sock Puppets Rule Our Media” piece…
Check out this PDF and especially the section near the bottom where Rendon is reported to have said: “The retired people in the networks had too much control of context.”
Heh.
That links to my 62…. yes he paid more…. they didn’t know actual usage such the number of Kw or BTU of energy, just the amount Gore paid. Another wingnut strawman argument
VG,
Here’s one:
http://climateprogress.org/200…..ssee-home/
I got it by googling what I thought wingers would search for: Al Gore AND huge house uses energy.
Suz! wow! thanks for the link.
Tennessee Center for Policy Research and President Drew Johnson certainly deserve some google time. Those generic “centers for policy research” have been know to do some ominous hit pieces in the past, on all sorts of issues.
Madam, would you like an avacado facial? They’re our special tonight.
Um, no, they don’t help with typing, but that’s all I got.
Hi Betsy, blessed Pesach
Thanks Margot! Been fun so far, but my body does not react well to being in a chair for so long, or to the very rocky trip home via wheelchair.
Margot! another wow! thanks so much for finding that link. I read, and I like it!
Muscle spasms, but I am going to try to sleep. Your healing energies and wishes are greatly appreciated.
good luck betsy
sleep well
An additional link that contains some additional perspective http://www.snopes.com/politics…..rehome.asp
pain free sleep wishes tex
Thanks newton. Thanks suzanne.
Yet another perspective http://www.crooksandliars.com/…..-straight/
Just got back. Thanks for the shoulder to lean on, Suz!
Oh wow, I just googled Drew Johnson. first best link:
http://www.sourcewatch.org/ind…..ew_Johnson
snippets:
~~”In 2002, while at the American Enterprise Institute,…
~~Before founding TCPR, Johnson was a policy analyst at the right-wing-funded National Taxpayers Union Foundation…
~~On an undated “Statement of Concern for Freedom in Russia” posted on the NTU website, the signatories—among which are Johnson, representing TCPR; Grover Norquist, of the conservative, tobacco industry-related Americans for Tax Reform; and Leonard Liggio of the conservative Atlas Economic Research Foundation—identify themselves as “representatives, of liberal think-tanks and movements”….
don’t want the pups to see me drooling cause i would fall asleep….
wigwam! another wow! two killer links. Thank you SO much. I just couldn’t have found any of this on my own!
Late to thread, but wishing you a deep and pain-free sleep, TexBetsy.
- – -
WRT to our “friends” at TCPR’s stink tank, their own boilerplate cooks them:
Hey – it’s worked so well for energy and health care and mercenaries and food…
It’s all so stupid when you’re talking about the people with this kind of money. Yes, Edward’s money is far cleaner than Bush money. But eventually, they’re going to have to pay their fair share in taxes if we demand it. Doesn’t matter who/when/why/which party.
So long as we get it together, ain’t any doubt.
nite Betsy, sweet dreamless sleep to you, wake refreshed.
No matter the importance of tomorrow’s goings-on, I just can not chase Suzanne out of here.
It is either extreme dedication and love, or something else that would get me in deep trouble if I suggested it.
Kirk! Those stink tanks really do stink. And, of course they all say that they are “non-partisan”. Hah!
Tangential, but it’s bugged me. When preznit first built his house at Crawford before the election, there were mag pictures showing extensive solar panels on the roof. Post election, never saw pix like that again.
Operation Fortitude
Suz- about the drooling issue- fwiw- and this is really OT, but I used to fall asleep during faculty seminars. And, the only way I knew this was, well, when things were getting tedious, I would rest my chin on my hand… and I would know I had fallen asleep when I woke up with drool on my hand. True story.
Hi Sunny! OT. Martin campaign still proceeding at a snail’s pace in terms of getting their ducks in a row on the internet, but I am now their “wiki” expert! Sigh.
Inflatable Solar Panels? ;-)
I’ve decided that operation fortitude should swing north and south. It’s only fair.
*crossing arms in front of bazooms and giving the lurkster the LQQK*
i can take a hint. gee, get cranky with the lurkster and look what happens.
i’ve hit the wall, pups. g’nite and thanks for hanging around for my semi-conscious ramblings. remember, no tacks in the spitballs and just because the lurkster is deathly afraid of frogs is no reason to put one in every drawer.
Sunny, well, I have no explanation except to say that “solar panels” might have indicated that Bush thought energy consumption (too much) and global warming were serious issues. He would have lost the faith of the 29%… or is it 19%… or…
Aloha, Suz! I’ll join ya on the exodus… Aloha Oe!!!
*pulls down converted welding mask*
Ready!
nite tuttle
hey – your Safari OK with MS mail?
Suz- remember the many times you have told me “VG, it’s time for you to crash”? Like when I was up at 5am my time, and still posting on FDL?
Very wise words. (((((Suz!)))) Love, VG.
(sneaks up on TLM)
Whap!
Hugs Suz, nite ;)
*in Lurch’s best bass*
Got candy, margot?
TLM- I’m not sure it has been clearly established as to what you wear. I think I read a few versions, or looked at a few versions, but I still see you in black cape, black tights, and dark glasses.
Valley Girl – that’s a great story about, you know, the drool.
But, at the risk of pissing off emeritus, let me ask – how is the drool-on-the-hand deal any different than any other time?
*ducks*
oh, and watch out. I looked at the moon tonight, and seemed like it was getting on to be a full moon, real soon.
May the force be with you.
newt- I’m not sure what you are asking. This was an actual event in my life. And has caused me to laugh a bit at myself. I am scratching my head to figure out if here is something you know that I don’t. Metaphorically speaking?
p.s. but I do have a way of drooling over (giving kudos) to folks who do great things for FDL.
Sunny! ;) But, I am just used to the seemingly furious pace of a few other campaigns. I just need to learn not to grind my teeth too hard on this one!
There is absolutely no room for “The Dozens” at FDL :-)
I had classes like that, but it happened almost daily in my case.
Just cappin’ on ya a bit, VG
Valley – are your FS kids asking you about the Gore-energy usage thing, or did you bring it up?
newt- I didn’t bring it up. It was totally off my radar, as I had discounted the few “newsy” things I heard last year as being bogus. I figured that it must have come from the right wing, but I didn’t check out the details.
A student raised this issue in class last Thursday. And, another student had alluded to it in facebook discussion a while back. But, we really didn’t have time to discuss this in class on Thursday, as we were pressed for time- needed to watch the class videos (class assignment)– first up was the video from the GWG! Global warming group!
It’s not the amount of energy one uses, but how much CO2 generating that energy put into the air. Coal is the worst. Natural gas is only half as bad. And nuclear, wind, and solar energy generate no CO2.
Dunno if that sumbitch can be licked, maybe.
Here (scarlet area – red state) folks are mad as hell and talking imprisonment. Chatted with a women in the grocery last week who burst into tears because she couldn’t afford chicken and her mama was too proud to accept help from her.
It’s going to be ugly by November.
Going to be?
Good grief!
This squeeze isn’t going to happen – it is happening now, and has been happening for quite a while. This is the beginning of critical mass.
ww- I just read the snopes link more carefully! says status is “true”. Alas, as we only have 2 more class periods left, and still have yet to view class video on STDs (they’ve told me it is 20 mins- the assignment was for a 5 min video max) and video on “sleep” (troubled group) I regret that I won’t have time to get into the details. But, I have thought about teaching a similar course in future, as a “Senior Seminar”.
Sunny- and that chicken thing is pretty ironic. Long time ago, I read something about Shameless putting pressure on someone or other as to immigrants. Gist, was, as I remember it, is that Shameless has a chicken farm that relies on illegals to do the dirty work. I was totally frustrated several months ago, when I tried to go back and find the link to what I had read. I was banging my head that I didn’t save the link.
p.s. and I did a thorough google, and couldn’t find it.
The Gore thing is mostly interesting in terms of gotcha politics. Apparently he pays a premium “to get electricity that is generated by clean sources.” I not sure what it means to get your electricity from a particular source, when you’re connected to the grid, But that’s the claim anyway.
In the overall scheme of things, any one person’s footprint isn’t so all that interesting. The point is that we’ve got to stop bring fossil carbon to the surface of the planet. We must tax it, and search real hard for other ways to make and store usable energy and to use less. Those are the interesting issues.
ww- agree completely.
I asked my student where he got this info. And, I forgot to add that we had just finished watching “An Inconvenient Truth” in class, and he leaned over to me and said, “you know of course, that there’s a huge problem with the Gore film”… I said uh… and then he repeated the rw talking points. I asked “where did you get this info?” he said… “I read it in a newspaper”..and I said, “well I don’t believe everything I read in newspapers”. But, no further discussion at that time, bec we had other class stuff to do.
I emailed him, asking him to investigate via teh google. I said “having watched the media for the last few years, I don’t necessarily believe what I read in newspapers, especially it looks like a smear job”. And, then in further email he pointed out that I went on to call up several links to newspaper articles in class. What I pulled up in class- Impact of global warming- drought in Australia affecting rice production, food shortage in North Korea, closing the Salmon season in northwest.
I was royally pissed at this student. Sorry for venting. ;)
I am back. :( Not happy with my body right now.
Wazzup, pups? Anyone still vertical?
Just home from a concert and the annual Alaska Press Club conference. I’m pumped, ’cause so many reporters are pissed and wanting to do something about this mess.
Hi ET, Which mess? Or all of them?
yo
Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo, Kristof and Rich in the NYT today. MoDo’s column is titled “Brush it Off,” and she says before it’s signed, sealed and delivered, as his campaign song goes, Barack Obama will have to balance his cool with some heat, as J.F.K. did. Mr. Kristof writes about “Our Favorite Planet,” and says none of the presidential candidates focus adequately on climate change, for this will be one of humanity’s great tests in the coming decades — and so far we’re failing. Mr. Rich’s column is titled “Shoddy! Tawdry! A Televised Train Wreck!” and he says he can’t remember a debate that became such an instant national gag, earning reviews more appropriate to a slasher movie like “Prom Night” than a civic event.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got French toast with just a bit of cinnamon today. I’m hoping that today is as lovely a day as yesterday was, and that I can get some more work done in the garden. (Should I put those 2 pepper plants there, or over there….?)
Thought I’d pop by to say good morning before I took the dog and his cat Little Bit out, looks like it’s still waters here at the Lake.
Raven if you’re around, how’s your dearly beloved doing with her recuperation? I saw your cute puppy vid the other day, your Little Bit’s looking healthy and happy.
oo and here’s Marion, French Toast and cinnamon?! I’ll be right back!
Hmmm… Do you think that the New York Times might be just a wee, tiny bit embarrassed to have to publish this editorial about the candidate they supported for the Republican nomination? Hmmm? Although they’re probably WAAAAY beyond the ability to be embarrassed by anything. After all, they did hire little Billy “Always Wrong About Everything” Kristol.
good morning.
Hi, Millineryman.
Hey there Marion. How’s things?
Going well. We have a guest from out of town, and mercifully the weather has been lovely. I actually got to do some digging in the dirt yesterday, but have a bunch more to get done. Those pepper plants have to find a home, and I’ve got some bedding plants for the back of the house. How’s life treating you?
*crickets*
Things are good. Waiting to hear from graduate school. Getting anxious about that. Found a couple yellow jasmine plants yesterday. I bought them becuase I’ve never seen yellow before. I have to be honest and say I prefer the white.
Do they have the same heavenly smell?
I have to get sinus’ to drain, can’t smeel a thing right now. From what I read though, they do. I love the aroma.
