I would prefer if NPR and PBS took no corporate money and definitely no government money. We certainly got less for their money. If the people owned it we would support it more.

First of all, I’d like to point out that if the government puts money into it, the people do own it. It’s our taxes that are paying, just as our taxes pay for our Rep’s salaries (including the Senators). Secondly, it would be great if they didn’t have to rely on government handouts, because when the government puts money into things, they seem to feel that it gives them the right to more directly affect what goes on the air, which can be dangerous if you are looking for a “free” press. But, as we all know, nothing is truly free, as in there is not free lunch. And the government already censors our public airways through the FCC. So I hope nobody withholds money from these public stations just on the basis of the government funding. Gotta run. Kitties clamoring for attention.
