I find this totally comprehensible and utterly predictable:
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), the Democratic Party's 2000 vice presidential nominee, is leaving open the possibility of giving a keynote address on behalf of Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) at the Republican National Convention in September.
Republicans close to the McCain campaign say Lieberman's appearance at the convention, possibly before a national primetime audience, could help make the case that the presumptive GOP nominee has a record of crossing the aisle. That could appeal to much-needed independent voters.
On the other hand, I find this absolutely incomprehensible:
When asked Tuesday if Lieberman's chairmanship was at risk next Congress, Reid said succinctly: "No."
"We have one difference of opinion, maybe two with Sen. Lieberman," said Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin
(D-Ill.), a prominent supporter of Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) presidential candidacy. "As a whip, I can tell you time and again, he's been there when we've needed him."
Durbin has the inside track for Majority Leader should the powers that be determine Harry Reid needs to take a powder.
The Democrats sucked it up and allowed Joe to stay in the party -- nay, begged him -- so they could retain the majority in the Senate. The price they paid was no Senate oversight with regard to the Department of Homeland Security, one of the most corrupt, graft-ridden corporate welfare boondoggles of our time.
But now, Mary Landrieu has a double-digit lead and Jean Shaheen ia poised to win, so there's no excuse for nodding indulgently as Lieberman runs around calling Barack Obama a Marxist. And he's getting ready to use all that absurd "comity" reverence with which his fellow Senators regard him against Obama and the Democratic Party at the Republican National Convention.
Lieberman has already been working Florida hard for McCain. Durbin, Reid, and Obama himself -- not to mention every Democrat who has a vested interest in taking the White House in in November -- ought to be waging an all-out campaign to discredit him now, before he takes the stage in Minneapolis and does irreparable damage with "independent" voters.
We saw what happened in Connecticut when the Democrats enabled him like this. Do we really want a repeat on the national stage?
(Irony of ironies -- even the Joe Lieberman Weekly turns on him.)

hi Jane
Wizened hobbit!
I agree with you that Reid needs to kick Liarman to the curb.
Joe Lieberman is the political equivalent of a sucking chest wound.
Jane!
send hojoe to iraq and bring our troops home now
Are the people of Florida stupid? Is this what Lieberman is assuming?
joe lieberman, please just go rot in hell now …
I have no words for him.
O/T ABC Switchboard: 212-456-7777 to call regarding the *ahem* debate
What is not despise about Joe Liberman.
take out old joe with the trash, just leave him by the curb
Are the people of Florida stupid? Is this what Lieberman is assuming?
Lieberman seems to assume everyone else is stupid. Mainly because the Dem leadership hasn’t proven him wrong yet.
oh and take REID with him mokay?
what does he have over on the dem leadership? Why are they too chickenshit to boot him? it just doesn’t make sense.
HILLARY loves the guy
My note to ABC:
The ABC debate tonight was disgraceful and betrayed the public trust. I will never listen to or watch ABC or any affiliate, deal with any business associated with ABC, not buy products that I know to be prominent sponsors of the ABC network, ever again. I believe ABC or its personnel attempted to manipulate the electoral process. I will support any public inquiry or protest that occurs in response to your extremely poor performance. I am contacting my representatives in Congress to complain.
He’s irrelevant. And therefore he needs to do something like this to seem important. Reminds me of Arlen Specter and his investigation of the “tapes.” They are irrelevant and can’t stand it.
Connecticut should know better. I don’t understand why they’d let him show his face there anymore.
It is just so far beyond pathetic. How do these people live with themselves?
Connecticut should have known better two years ago.
Already tonite Howard Fineman was saying that, while he doubts Lieberman will do a GOP keynote, that if he does, it’ll help McCain with independents, seeing as it’ll mean McCain’s bipartisan and all.
Why can’t DeeCee Democrats see around the corner to St Paul?
Expel Him! NOW
It’ll look like pissy politics if they do it afterwards. Cut his cred, right now. Make him the non-Democrat he is.
well, I was asking about the dem leadership …. which, given the last couple weeks, seems to include hillary about as much as it does hojoe… oops, sounding a little bitter there. sorry …
w3rd
I like it especially contacting your representatives.
that one third million dollar petty cash disbursements leiberlier bought votes with should have pissed off the ct folks.
The droopy-dawg drool-cup fund.
Oh, very easily to be sure.
To get at Joe get his wife Hadassah.

Investigate her employer Hill @ Knowlton
Hill & Knowlton has generated a fair amount of controversy. Numerous PR campaigns, on behalf of both governments and private industry appear to violate both industry ethics and civil statutes. In 1991, Hill & Knowlton received $14 million from countries known to abuse human rights, including China, Peru, Indonesia, and Egypt. They have also taken on cases that dealt with corporate crime, including the El Paso natural gas case and the Bank of Credit and Commerce International case. The company has been involved in possible government conspiracies including the alleged October Surprise and has worked for the CIA in cases where overseas offices acted as covers for US agents.
“Nurse Nayirah”
* In 1990, on behalf of the US-funded and US-directed Citizens for a Free Kuwait, H&K researched and then created stories and “eye-witness” testimonies that described Iraqi atrocities that would build public support for Desert Storm. These “eye-witnesses” were presented to the Congressional Human Rights Caucus and included the fraudulent “Nurse Nayirah” testimony that played a major role in involving the US in the Gulf War. She testified that she had witnessed Iraqi soldiers killing hundreds of premature babies at the al-Addan hospital in Kuwait City. “They took the babies out of the incubators, took the incubators, and left the babies on the cold floor to die,” she said. Congressmen were stunned. It was only after Desert Storm had officially ended that ABC reporter John Martin discovered that the none of these tales of atrocities were true. “Nayirah” (Nijirah al-Sabah) was actually the daughter of the Kuwait House of Al-Sabah royal family member Saud Nasir Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti ambassador to the United States. Without Hill & Knowlton’s PR, the Gulf War would not have been as favorable to Americans. Much is made that at this time H&K’s Washington office was headed by Craig Fuller, the former chief of staff and good friend of George Bush, Sr.[citation needed] This has been covered in a documentary film called To Sell a War.
[edit]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hill_%26_Knowlton
The selling of the upcoming Iran War sounds allot like the push for Gulf war 1. I wonder if Hill @ Knowlton got a contract to start a war with Iran?
An investigation would be nice an even if nothing happens it would show Holy Joe to be a tool.
I just got back from ABCdotcom and there were over 7100 comments and not a one that I saw was positive…! ;-)
Heard this morning that Specter has a return of his cancer.
joe liarman = zell miller - 2 of a kind….. can joey baby kick the dems to the curb any harder?
whomever is the lil debbie at abc is gonna need a new set of pearls to get through all those comments
Kick joe out and, while you are at it, kick HRC out too. The clintons
pals at CNN, Fox and ABC have tilted the coverage of the Penn primary
as much as possible… but not a word on torture, the wall street scam,
or the plummeting economy, just clinton spin. Obama should get off tv
completely, let the others waste their donor’s money trying to buy
off a network. Obama has gone around them and they see a future in which
their gatekeeper status is reduced… television is dead.
Might be worth watching Gibson tomorrow night to see how he acts after this waxing he is taking. Well, maybe not…
I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. But Lieberman comes close.
Since Lieberliar was a failure as a dem, he switched to thug as the slimy parasite that he truly is and always has been.
(warmongering is his true nature anyway)
He needs to be stripped of any power in the dem party publically and yesterday.
*laughing*
Is that what we call them now, the public editors and ombuds? Wherever they work?
I love it. Her name will outlive her contract (if she ever honors it and leaves!)
I predict that ABC does absolutely nothing about it.
Heh, I wonder if KO will have that dynamic duo winning WPITW Gold tomorrow nite?
There is no doubt that both of them are cancers on our country.
Stewart, and maybe even Colbert, should be fabulous tomorrow. “You’re hurting America” doesn’t come close.
Is Hillary on Colbert tomorrow nite?
as far as i am concerned, they are all lil debbies until they prove by their actions they actually do the job they are supposed to
it’ll help McCain with independents, seeing as it’ll mean McCain’s bipartisan and all.
Don’t worry there are no independents. Voters are registering Democrat and voting for both Obama and Hilary in larger numbers than McCain gets in some states because the war has polarized them.
The GOP cannot believe the facts because it would shatter their worldview.
But chances are if you really are Independent and do not have an opinion yet on the war and the economy then you probably won’t vote in November.
My contempt for Joe Lieberman now transcends this space-time continuum.
I didn’t see the debate but from the comments here and a few from the previous thread it sounds as if went McCain’s way.
Going multiple dimensional is your contempt for Joe?
Kick. Harry. Out.
there is nothing that Lieberwurst will ever do that could justify enabling him as Reid continues to do. as congressional leaders, both Reid and Pelosi have let the American people down. they have let Democrats down and regard Progressives with disdain. they need to be replaced. first them, then Steney and Rahm.
Charlie and George tried to work it that way but I think it backfired.
Below is a draft of longer letter I will be sending to network and all local affiliates, and to my rep and Senators. The internet repsonse page only takes a short message.
I am contacting my representatives in Congress to complain and recommend that the current system of debate coverage be abandoned in favor of a public system on C-Span or public broadcasters.
I believe Mr. Gibson should be fired for unprofessional conduct and incompetence. At the very minimum he should be barred from ever again hosting a political debate of any kind. But unless some disciplinary action is taken agsint both moderators, I will be forced to question ABC’s commitment to objective, fair, factually accurate and competent reporting of the news and its analysis if public affairs.
The reasons for my opinion are given below.
No substantive question was asked for the entire first hour, which was devoted entirely to gotcha questions about campaign scandals, most of which have been discussed excessively already in the media. Some of the campaign scandal questions pertained to issues so obscure that I had a difficult time following them even though I have kept myself very informed of campaing developments. Even if these were important issues for public discussion, attempts to deal with them in a short Q&A format at a debate shows very questionable news judgment and brings into serious question the professional judgment and competence of the moderators.
The second hour, which as devoted to a few substantive issues was worse. Both moderators asked slanted gotcha questions that were based on very dubious premises. When those premises were questioned by the candidates, the moderators became unprofessionally argumentative and hostile towards the candidates. What is worse, I believe that both moderators were factually wrong in the assumptions they made in forming several of their questions, and rigidly insisted that the candidates accept false premises in their answers. This behavior also casts serious suspcion on the moderators professionalism, competence and judgment.
Mr. Gibson’s questions on the economy were based on particularly dubious premises. Unless Mr. Gibson can defend his premises as being very certain and uncontroversial facts, I think that his journalistic professionalism and competence should be held in question. I will support a public inquiry of some kind into this issue, particuarly into both Mr. Gibson competence and judgment in taking this approach.
I also question his news judgment in concentrating on social security and capital gains tax questions. Many other domestic issues, such as health care, the mortgage and financial industry crisis, immigration, are more important than very speculative questions about tax policy. Futhermor, social security and tax policy have already been discussed in previous debates. Important recent developments have taken place since the last debate, and these were left untouched by the moderators. This is another aspect of incompetence and lack of news jugement by both moderators.
There was a naked and overt partisan slant to the moderators’ questions. Mr. Gibson called Mr. Obama a liar, and interrupted to Ms. Clinton’s answers to insert an advertisement for Mr. McCain, which was not relevant at all in a Democratic primary. And why were the moderators frequently hostilely interrupting, badgering and editorializing about the candidates answers in the first place? This was a debate between the candidates, not a joint interview.
It may require dimensions not predicted by current models of the universe.
sweet. when does abc’s broadcast license come up for review again?
I’m having trouble understanding what keeping Lieberman in the Democratic caucus has netted us as citizens. Can someone name some actual accomplishment that wouldn’t have happened if the Republicans had been in the majority?
No, I’m not being facetious. Just maybe absent-minded.
my contempt has no boundaries!! for him or reid……
Well, Buckaroo Banzi went across the 8th Dimension so no reason your contempt for Joe couldn’t go farther.
great letter, wesgpc
Howard Dean needs to denounce and reject and call out G&C in the strongest possible terms. Betcha KO will give him the airtime to do it, although the majors might not.
St. Paul, not Minneapolis.
Lieberman’s days are numbered. He’s hoping for a position in a McCain cabinet as his days of usefulness in the Senate are coming to an end.
Yet again, Harry Reid says to Joe Lieberman, “Please, sir, may I have another?”
Lieberman is, of course, contemptible.
But Reid is pathetic.
I cannot think of one single thing.
(give us Jim Jeffords back!!! He was a true Independent with a conscience and brain!)
The DeeCee Democrats must act NOW.
Waiting until Lieberman makes his St Paul move will be too late.
Why can’t they see this? We can, and we’re DFHs.
OT - I guess I am not sure when you cross the line between abuse and torture and I think that the US Military doesn’t know where the fine line is. The man died in detention, he was beaten.
Pentagon records detail prisoner abuse by US military
I think a VERY VERY BIG PUBLIC RUCKUS is in order. That is more important than ABC getting disciplined. that aint gonna happend. I bet the Bush administration has a nice cronty capitalist goodie ready for their performance tonight.
I big public stink, with emphsasis on
-competence
-professionalism
-new judgment of those two sad moderator fools.
We need to be very polite and very professional and matter of fact, and very loud and persistent. Seriously, contact your representatives, and others who may be sympathetic. Say the corporarte media is attempting to manipulate the electoral process, either that or is abjectly incompetent. Ask for publicly sponsord debates again. Take it away from the corporate media, take it away from the party bigshots. Scrap it. Someting like League of Women voters.
Remember that Gibson went WAY out on a limb in the debate. He explicitly assumed some cold hard facts and insisted that they were true and then went badgered the candidates and editorialized about the quality of their answers and the candidates’ honesty. BASED ON HIS GOOFY PREMISES.
OK, let us CHECK those facts of Mr. Gibson.
They better ALL be right, or he is an incometent, unsound, unprofessional journalist, and no more debates, no more job, for him.
I have said this many times before but it always bears repeating:
My contempt for Joe Lieberman is infinite and eternal.
That said, nothing he could do would make me feel worse about him, as that would be impossible.
Yes, having Jim Jeffords back would be nice.
Unfortunately, Lieberman gave the Democrats a majority, but he has mostly voted like a Republican, at least on the things that matter. That’s not the worst of it, though. There are at least a dozen other Senators you could say that about. Reid’s one of them.
I meant to type
I *hope there is a* big public stink, with emphsasis on.
I may in fact be a big public stink myself, but that is another matter.
(and, if that is true, it is the ovely large pot of beans I cooked up a couple of days ago.)
i want to see the dem’s start to shun leiberliar. turn their back on him. not return any calls. treat him as persona non grata
if public affairs > of
very informed of campaing developments > campaign
also casts serious suspcion > suspicion
Futhermor, social security > Furthermore
jugement by both moderators > judgment
Good luck, good letter.
I like this debate no really only it was really about the Media and not Democrtic Presidential Candidates. Everything that has been said here by people about how inept, stupid, biased etc the Main Stream Media is was proved today.
When we got two wars in two different countries an economy on the brink of a meltdown and it takes the Mods over 50 minutes to ask a question about the war?
Well what does that tell us ABC who for whatever reason does not want to talk about the war, the economy the FREAKIN ISSUES
It tells us the Media has an agenda. It tells us the Media’s agenda would not be helped if we talked about the War, economy, etc.
It also tells us that none of the GOP talking points on the issue are tracking well with voters in the polls.
With the possible exception of Charlie’s Chicago School of Economics talking points which to be honest I wonder how they were received by Pennsylvania voters.
Is saving the Capitol Gains tax rates really a winner? Or is that the one issue the GOP wants the most?
Lieberboy and Graham are joined at the, er, hip, and both are panting rather emotionally after Big John.
The fiction that Lieberboy is an independent or that he caucuses or votes with Democrats is like pretending that Rock Hudson actually lusted after those starlets the studio was adamant that he be photographed with. His sole function, his Mephistophelean bargain, is to keep his Senate committee from investigating the criminal goings on of Shrub’s Heimatssicherheitsdient.
The question is when should the Democrats kick Joe out. Before the election, certainly. After the GOP convention? On Halloween?
Teddy, how right you are!
The time to put the pressure on is actually yesterday.
Sincere thanks for our help, Hugh. But I’m so bad at copy editing that there is for a fact billions of typos you misseed. I can say this for sure from experience. I have to set things aside for a day or two and then see them fresh. And on paper.
For some reason, I simply cannot proof read anything on a computer screen (as you all must have noticed many many times by now.)
misconduct, my a**.
our shame.
Doood! You are right on. Some time, some how, we have to shoot those fuckers down. And, the sooner, the better. LET’S DO IT NOW!
I would say an issue is not so much controlling the Senate now, it seems to be deadlocked, but to control it or not give up the deadlock during its lameduck period. Bush and unsuccessful GOP CongressCritters will want to push through various appointments, legislative pardons, whatever, before he leaves office.
When we got two wars in two different countries an economy on the brink of a meltdown and it takes the Mods over 50 minutes to ask a question about the war?
Or the economy? Yes, it’s a pretty sad showing. Unfortunately, it’s also par for the course.
No you raise a good point we need to ask Harry Reid and Durbin just what good is Joe? Cause I am drawing a complete blank in response to your question.
DU has an Official F*ck You ABC Thread, with 150 comments and 87 rec’s already…! ;-)
OT
Are there any more “debates” - she said warily?
actually, that is a good point. I looked at the comments on the ABC debate blog. YEEEHOW, they were ferociously negative.
But a follow up public ruckus is still required to make a lasting impact.
I think the moderators’ preofessionalism should be subject of serious public debate for reasons I have given above.
I think EVERYBODY should write a letter to ABC, local paper and their reps on Congress. If you think mine has some good stuff, take some of it out as a starter for yours.
to control it or not give up the deadlock during its lameduck period
Excellent point! That November-December period could be downright treacherous, even with a Dem win in the election.
As for when to move on HoHo, I say they should do it ASAP, so the opprobrium can hopefully sink in by convention season.
OK I am comment number 7767 on ABC’s blog. *snicker*
off topic.. but the BT post we were diggin last nite - its up to 3054 diggs now
This debate alone gives us a reason to push for bringing back the “Fairness Doctrine” because the Media is not even pretending to be unbiased anymore. Did Charlie and or ABC host a GOP debate if so I bet it was a lovefest.
If they’d shown signs of doing any of that before now, I’d say that’s a good point. Under the circumstances, though, I wonder.
Now that’s what I call pushback. Hurray
My contempt for Joe Lieberman knows no bounds.
Yes, I’ve decided I don’t like him all that much …
Nothing like having a theme, is there?
Sort of related, here is a map thing-y that will show you where in the USA Taxi to the Dark Side is playing on a given day. I saw it the other night, and I’m aftraid that even if you’re already among the firmly convinced, as I certainly was, you still need to see it.
Hmmm… It hasn’t even aired here in the Isles yet… Has it started in Cali yet?
Excellent point. Why allow Lieberboy’s appearance at the Gooper Convention to make summer news and to infect the Democrats? Cut off the offending, gangrenous limb well beforehand, so that his appearance at the Convention is that of a turncoat, a traitor to his party and the values he claimed to have at his last election. Which will gut the Gooper’s purpose in having him there to begin with.
The important question, which must obsess that aggressive former boxer Harry Reedless, is what would be the parliamentary effect on the Senate of kicking Joey out. Would it, for example, give us serial 50-50 ties, which places control in Cheney’s hands?
No one in the civilized world, or in Metro DC, could look forward to that. Tossing Joe raises potentially strategic as well as tactical issues only Harry and his cohort can solve.
Waterboard me if you will, but whatever you do, please do not make me listen to Lieberman’s voice.
started at 8 ca time and has a half hour left ct
” Lieberman has already been working Florida hard for McCain. “
I really hope we take Florida this time just because Joe has been working the state.
Up to 8178 now. Comments from just the current page: soap opera, celebrity gossip, disgrace, dog fight, idiotic, sensationalist, pathetic, tabloid, atrocious, shame. No one defending ABC.
At last, someone has brought the country together.
the video of the crowd turning on the abc idiots is up at utube now
Are you watching it?
hell no ct - i learned to listen to warnings at a young age. ’sides which, i blocked abc/disney
Gee, I don’t know … someone I knew who was pretty tough physically said of waterboarding, and I paraphrase slightly, “you quickly come to the conclusion that there’s just no reason to put up with this, and try to figure out something to say.”
Maybe you can virtually chant “OM” until he’s through.
Therein lies the rub, torture doesn’t work because the truthfulness is always in doubt, and there’s never been a ticking bomb scenario…
“No matter where you go there you are” All Buckeroos agree
yep, started at 8 here
But nooooo, we’re not bitter. *g
grr and he is laughing about it. i hope they are eviscerated tomorrow
looks like c&l is banging the drum beat to keep the story going…. abc is not gonna be happy
too fucking bad
Indeed and in line with this thought why no kick Reid to the curb.
Can anyone tell me how he’s been a real actual help on any issue we care about?
Let’s get rid of ‘Sellout’ Reid and Miss Nancy too!
I think for torture to be useless in a “ticking bomb” scenario all the bomber would have to do is come up with one or two plausible lies to tell. I take “ticking” to mean it’s going to happen soon.
Wesgpc @ 49, sadly, your letter assumes ABC did not get precisely what it wanted. I think it did.
i’m with you on thay. no way should we let the rat network get away with this abuse of journalism. hell, it was yellow journalism at its best
