Now that he's pissed away most of a decade insisting global warming is teh phony, the Commander Guy will admit that he was wrong address climate change today.
Under pressure from Congress and the courts, President Bush will unveil a plan today to set medium-range goals for reducing the gases that are blamed for global warming, administration officials said.
Bush will speak from the Rose Garden, calling for a general strategy to address climate change rather than a specific proposal to address emissions by industries, motor vehicles and other sources frequently cited in the debate over rising world temperatures.
"The president will frame the debate for the right and wrong ways to do it," Deputy White House Press Secretary Tony Fratto said.
Yeah, under the category of "wrong ways to do it" let's go ahead and put "not do shit about it for 8 years while giving the oil companies everything they want and insisting Al Gore made the whole thing up."
To me, the great thing about this is the shrieking of the Bush dead-enders, who are running around screaming about "surrender" and "fiasco." Sneers Iain Murray at The Corner:
People need to get very, very angry about this. I know I am.
And the Anchor Baby is having a complete meltdown:
Unwilling to stand for scientific integrity, rational cost-benefit analyses, private property rights, and free market environmentalism in a hysterical effort to out-gore Al Gore: That’s your GOP.
I think Bush's approval is about to hit the teens.

TBOGG!
Sorry.
Wrong thread, my bad.
BT, I keep thinking that somebody keeps moving the decimal point on Stupie’s JAR numbers to begin with.
Well, he’s hit the kids and the seniors. Time for the teens. :P
LOL!!
Gee, it’s warm today, isn’t it?
Anchor Baby. You know, I’m still recovering from the GOP primaries and think of Mitt when I read that. I shudder at any mention of MM’s name. Ew.
Explain?
Heh, heh. McBitter has been trying to distance himself from Bush by talking up global warming….
Presidunce:
“Thank you, yer Holiness, awesome speech.”
“Awsome” That’s presidential, right?
You mean explain how Mitt is an anchor baby?
TBOGG, BT & FDL FOREVAH!
707!
What a fucking clown this cat is. Sometimes I think I’m caught in an endless PCP driven dream.
“And after lunch we have some great snuff movies we can watch together”
Happy little fascists a’dancin’ together
“To me, the great thing about this is the shrieking of the Bush dead-enders, who are running around screaming about “surrender” and “fiasco.”"
Not the first for Bush, and certainly not the last.
I am amazed nixon’s approval was ever lower then bush has hit, it is bizarre
Bush can’t get anything right. What he meant was,
“Dude, that was fuckin’ awesome.”
The Bugman, recall, says that human-caused global warming is bullshit, that “It is arrogance to suggest that man can affect climate change, that no science that supports such a notion.“
No cell phones and
nofewer phoney news outlets make nixon look worse in pollsAnchor Baby now has an update, by way of the Moonie Times, indicating that Bush was kinda just kidding after all.
More at the Anchor Baby link.
o/t on the anchor baby thing: George W. Romney, the Mexican-born son of Mormon exiles, was the father of Mitt Romney. Mitt was George’s “anchor baby” whose American birth and that of George’s father created a bridge of citizenship for him.
I can’t explain why I shudder at MM’s name. Instinct?
Wahhh….we’re not having global warming…we’re not…wahhh…it’s snowing in Minnesota so we’re not having global warming….and polar bears are mean anyway and they smell….Wahhhhh
Totally OT, but this blows my mind: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/
Look at the picture of the pope (ex-Nazi, ex-grand Inquisitor) and the president (torture is A-O-K!). Isn’t that a Confederate flag in between them?
Guess I’m dense.
707?
Bush’s innovative global warming bill will be preceded by a signing statement.
Wonder if that’s real or a Photoshop job by someone trying to see whether anyone will pick up on it?
This is totally in line with his shafting of the Kyoto Treaty. “We’ll have a Global Warming bill that’s in line with raping the environment and lining the pockets of good friends like Dick, over there behind the dried out shrubs.”
That’s the Right way to do it, fer shure.
Ah.
‘net symbol for LOL (laughing out loud) upside down. Lying on your back laughing heartily.
Density now attenuated.
There’s an “AP” symbol on the photo, so I’d guess it’s legit. Has anyone seen it on the AP site?
BTW, BT, that photo just makes me want to spit!
I could put an AP logo on any pic in about 2 seconds.
bear got pissed and had 1 to 1 with preznit.
You could, but if you’re a major website like HuffPo, you’d get hit with a lawsuit in about 20 seconds.
707! I sudda caught it as 7734 was the way to say hell as in “go to 7734″ when I was in catholic school!
You can bet that it’s all bullshit posturing. He has no time to implement anything. Even if he did, he’d fuck it up.
I have a friend at our local EPA office who says they routinely wish that the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, etc would follow through and sue them for the various reasons that come up. They secretly cheer on outside advocate groups because they know how badly this admin. sucks.
It will be warm when he finally arrives in the Bush Wing of Hell.
Yeah, I’m jus’ sayin’, just wondering aloud whether someone spoofed that shot and no one noticed.
It’s a creative commons photo from Flickr. I’ve always been curious as to whether it’s real, but I love it, regardless.
OH hell yeah. The old “GOP has a better way to do it so we’re not going to do it your way because we really don’t want to do anything at all” head fake. Not even a head fake.
I’m doing some googling on John Yoo at the moment and I cannot believe the defense of the man. No wonder W is laughing and tapdancing. There really are people who eat his crap up. It’s Bushalicious.
Don’t believe a thing he says. He’ll just be trying to further the agenda of Republican Corporate interests, e.g., the Coal Industry. Remember, there’s no such thing as “clean coal.” Coal is carbon, and there’s no way to get energy from carbon except by oxydizing it, thus creating CO2, which is a greenhouse gas.
I wonder if the Pope noticed a smell at the podium…
OT, but hilarious: Daily Variety columnist Brian Lowry skewers Chris Matthews in his column today. The theme of the column is compare and contrast celebrity profiles (the praise-worthy one is George Clooney).
Some choice quotes: “MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, portrayed as a tone-deaf buffoon in a [NYT] Sunday magazine cover story…Matthews’ obliviousness regarding how he’s perceived - which included steering the interviewer to third parties with nothing nice to say about him - represents an extreme version of a common disease within the pundit class.”
Later, Lowry recounts a meet and greet breakfast with Matthews a few years ago: “[Matthews] talked for 20 uninterrupted minutes. Every response or attempt to pose a question yielded a similar filibuster before I finally gave up, accepted the inevitable, ate my French toast and politely waited for the check or death, whichever came first. The indelible impression was that of a man passionately in love with the sound of his own voice.”
Which is undergoing a major expansion in order to handle anticipated demand.
I think it’s legit. That’s the pope, the president, and the Confederate flag. I guess they couldn’t find one with swastikas. More links to various angles:

Doh! Note to mods: Please release my pope/president/Confederate flag post. There are several hyperlinks, but they’re worth the clicks!
Whoa, now THAT’s some fast moderating!
eau de 43 ?
McSame attempted to distance himself on climate change yesterday (Hairball) - and the very next day Chimpigula makes this statement ?!?!?
I’m sorry firedogs - can’t seem to shake the idea Cheney loves messing with McToast
OT with apologies:
I just linked some info on lobbying by the FBEE-OY just prior to FISA coming back before the Senate.
#117 under Christy’s FISA thread.
Sorry to hijack the link, but didn’t anyone on the pope’s advance team look at those flags first? I’m assuming that that’s the state flag of one of the racist states, and they’ve got the flags of all 50 states up there, but if you’re going to put the Confederate flag on the stage, shouldn’t you put it as far away from the center of the stage as possible? My guess: Team Bush did this on purpose as payback for the dinner snub, and Team Pope wasn’t paying close enough attention to catch it.
I hope someone brought burning sage.
Georgia state flag:
http://www.usc.edu/dept/gero/n.....a-flag.gif
Not any more.
I am sooooo confused by this flag thing. It must be a photoshopped experience.
This is the current GA flag.
It could be the Mississippi flag. It has the Confederate symbol in the upper left-hand quadrant.
Heh, heh. Abramoff creeping back into the news:

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG, etc.
Good guess and can only add quite a Rovian stench…God knows junior lacks such imagination.
FYI, everyone — just a reminder that we have a special book salon coming up today:

eau de sulphur?
bom dia, pups
Preznit Pollutin’ Putz is gonna tell us the “right” and “wrong” ways to deal with Climate Change? The “right” ways brought to us courtesy of who, the same “science” advisors who think the Earth was flat up until 6,000 years ago? The same folks who are convinced that smog is just another substance and PCB’s have always been in those riverbeds.
Hell, I’m waiting for those morons to tell us that Mercury is a perfectly natural “organic” substance because it occurs in the mineral cinnabar, which they probably mistake for cinnamon and want to put in everyone’s coffee free of charge.
Seriously, the only environment that the Codpiece should be allowed to comment on is the one at his “ranch” in Crawford. Maybe he’ll dream of it wistfully when he’s fucking locked away in the Hague.
Let me just say my disgust with Joe knows no bounds.

The best outcome at this point is if Bush rejects everything that’s under consideration so we can get a clean start next year. The thing I’m worried about is an attempt to put together a bipartisan fig-leaf bill that will undercut the possibility of doing something later that’ll actually work (or at least make it much harder.) In particular, if Bush takes the blame for the Warner-Lieberman bill failing, that’d be fine with me.
Well, intentionally or not, it sounds like he’s made a good start at achieving exactly that outcome. I agree. No matter what happens, nothing of any substance is going to happen until after Bozo is out of office.
At this point in his administration, I think it is better Bush does nothing than try to do something which is likely to fail. Cheney would never allow Bush to address global warming in a responsible way for fear of upsetting the bottom line of his coal and oil buddies.
Bush can’t get anything right. What he meant was,
“Dude, that was fuckin’ awesome.”
No, no, no! It’s “F*ckin’-A, man, that was like totally awesome, dude!”
This is another example of the media overlooking the fact that this is the worst President in our history proposing his solution to a serious and complicated problem. It is this meme that a President’s opinions should be accorded weight and respect even when that President is boneshit stupid.
At this point, whatever Chimpy wants is OFF. FUCKING. LIMITS.
Anything he wants to do either
A: is for Big Business
or
B: is for Big Business.
We need to weld the lid on the cookie jar shut.
An obvious attempt to make Johnny 8houses’ inability to divorce his campaign from Bush more palatable to voters.
The UN summit in Bali last year set up a negotiation phase of I believe 2 years precisely to extend into the next Administration because they realized that nothing was going to happen while Bush remained in office.
Reagan said that trees cause pollution - how much worse can Bush be? oh, never mind…
yeah, but at least trees are a vegetable.
I’ll bet McSame is blowing his cork behind closed doors just about now.
Tony Soprano’s consigliere Silvio Dante has endorsed Barack Obama. His “Boss” has also endorsed Obama.
Probably photoshopped: flags are not the same, and the background is not dark in the video. Fast work, though.
Bush, ” Awesome speech.” Ha! Like Bush would have a passing acquaintance with real awe.
what about:
“git er dun”
It’s what’s for dinner. *g*
And catsup is a vegetable, recall.
Only Shock and Awe.
Adie,
I left you a reply but Marcy at emptywheel was all over that yesterday morning.
He’s on CNN - wadda sockpuppet!
ack shrub’s on my teevee…..
concern about effects of climate change on the economy…..
Who gives a riff about the environment (the air, water, etc.) but if it effects the dollar (or if there is one to be made), he is all over it like a cheap suit
Nixon had verrrry negative press. Bush has been coddled.
blech, he keeps using the words “reasonable” and “rational”
lies lies lies
new technologeez.
oh! he knocked over his mike when listing court rulings!
Clean coal? oxymoron much? besides that would require lots of water
why not just renewable energy.
I can’t watch anymore, y’all keep me up to date
This right way/wrong way thing isn’t exactly an invitation to debate by “elected” officials.
RawStory links to a new Stupidest Bastard On the Planet report. Doug Feith discovered that a lot of problems flow from looting. He may have done a terrible job planning Iraq Strategery, but he is funny, and funny looking.
Here it comes. Incentives for technologeez!
$$$ for corporations, here it comes!
Bush posing as visionary. Give him an Oscar. He’s Green with envy.
“Adopt appropriate incentatives”…
This might prove to be the real splitting point between conservatives and libertarians.
gaw!
Global Climate Change: Bush says there is a RIGHT way and a WRONG way. He is the RIGHT way. Wrong way is regulation. Right way is putting economy first. Growth emissions in 2025. The oil companies love it.
Did I miss it because I haven’t heard one thing new from him. It’s the same old same old. I think it’s the same speech taken out of the back file and dusted off.
Bush has not lost his touch for “talking down” to the public on important issues.
Word has it he finally got off the “Walter J Crrrapper” pulled up his pants and stepped up to the plate on global warming. Word also has it he failed to wipe himself, before pulling up his pants? A soiled situation……
that was a complete waste of time to watch
I read this too fast and thought you said spitting.
*spew*
controlling the form of stored potential energy as a “commodity”
corporation’s endless profit……………
Voter Video on C-SPAN is so much better to watch. A 14 year old gives me hope for the next generation.
He spews diarrhea everyday I say.
C Span Broadcasts student videos also, better stories with more content and thought given, than some evening news broadcasts. Yes there is hope!
His Great Pronoucement on global warming is a pile of crap. Misdirection, mendacity, and the revesal of any current policy that actually does any good.
Can we PLEASE Impeach him now?
ITMFA
“Perceptions are never the realities in the war of words!”
“The “prize” is the brainwashed mind, and the money that is earned!”
Couple of lines from a song I wrote entitled: “Conditioned Minds”
“WASHINGTON (AP) — Revising his stance on global warming, President Bush proposed a new target Wednesday for stopping the growth of the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.”
K.. let’s be clear here.. it is grossly incorrectly for our press to say that this monster has changed his stance on climate change. He isn’t proposing to reduce emissions, he’s proposing to gradually decrease the rate of growth of emissions to the point that emissions will stop increasing by 2025. This means he wants each American to be able to pollute MORE and MORE each a year, until 2025, albeit with the incremental “more” being progressively less. This is bullshite.. its frankly almost worse than doing nothing, by setting a standard that is so generous to the polluters that it practically guarantees that they will take advantage of it. Its patently ridiculous. When Florida ultimately drowns, I hope somebody down there remembers shrub fondly as the man who drowned them.
