I get asked about Lieberman/Lamont/Obama a lot, and Greg Mitchell has a good rundown of what happened:
As you may have heard, Lieberman was asked yesterday about Bill Kristol linking Obama to Marx -- and we don't mean Groucho -- in his New York Times column yesterday. On the Brian and Judge radio show, asked if Obama was indeed a Marxist, Lieberman replied, "I must say, that's a good question ... I will tell you that during this campaign, I've learned some things about him, about the kind of environment from which he came ideologically. And I wouldn't ... I'd hesitate to say he's a Marxist, but he's got some positions that are far to the left of me and I think mainstream America."
Yet, just a little more than two years ago, Lieberman, facing a strong threat from antiwar candidate Ned Lamont in the Democratic primary, invited Obama to give a major speech in Connecticut endorsing him for re-election -- which some liberals still hold against Obama.
"I am absolutely certain Connecticut is going to have the good sense to send Joe Lieberman back to the U.S. Senate so he can continue to serve on our behalf," Obama proclaimed then.
An AP story in late March 2006 on the event noted that "Lieberman became Obama's mentor when Obama was sworn into the Senate in 2005. They stayed close at Thursday night's event, too, entering the room together and working the crowd in tandem." However, "scattered boos greeted Lieberman when he took the podium, and he had to stop three times during his remarks to shush the crowd so he could deliver key points."
So clearly Obama had stuck his neck way, way for Lieberman. But Lieberman may still be smarting from Obama's decision, at the very end of the 2006 race, to endorse Lamont, who had won the primary, over Lieberman. The latter ran as a third party candidate (and won). Even so, liberals derided Obama for his very modest efforts on behalf of Lamont. Now Lieberman hints there may be something to this "Marxist" charge after all.
Can we just dispense with the charade that Joe Lieberman is doing any of this because he's a man of principle who will back the best candidate, regardless of party, as he maintains?
Joe Lieberman, whom Chris Durang once called a "sanctimonious Hobbitt," had his ass kicked out of the Democratic party. He's a petty, bitter, nasty little man and he's backing John McCain because that represents his own personal political upside.
Outside of an appetite for endless war he doesn't want to fight himself, ideology has nothing to do with it.

I have no idea why Lieberwurst does any of the shit that he does. Perhaps it doesn’t matter?
Fox News on Lincoln:
http://freewayblogger.blogspot.....sburg.html
Can he survive “Gettysburg” remarks?
Zed? Joe Lieberman = Ted Sandyman. Willing to work with the forces of Saruman (McVain and Bush) to burn down his own house for personal gain.
((((((((((JANE))))))))))
i think of lieberman as sort of the horse whisperer to McSame.
LOL. I always called Rove “the Bu’ush Whisperer”.
Liebitterman
Hey Joe, what happened to the $387,000 in petty cash?
Day-uhm. Do we have to insult Hobbits by comparing Short Ride to ‘em? I mean Frodo WAS a hero and although a bit of a PITA sometimes, Bilbo wasn’t THAT bad.
Seems to me that Short Ride takes more after the Orcs than the Hobbits.
OT: A*P*C gets a competitor: http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....s_politics
Lieberwurst seems to be enjoying being able to get a camera crew to show up whenever it pleases him. Perhaps that’s about all there is to it. He’s approaching the age of political death and wants one last hurrah?
sanctimonious hoobit!
OMG, that is laugh out loud funny.
My comtempt……
OT, but I was too late to get this bit about global warming into the previous Bush-bashing thread. Via Froomkin:
So the proposed new new Bush Administration policy on global warming is like proposing to put out the burning house as soon as we have the technology to ensure there won’t be any water damage.
…starring Joe Lieberman as Dildo Draggins
Fixed it for you. Because having been kicked to the curb by CT doesn’t seem to have affected his ability to be the do-nothing chair of that Homeland Security Committee in the Senate.
There will be SUCH a celebration in my house the day his sorry ass is TRULY kicked to the curb.
Petty, bitter, nasty little man is a good description of that troll.
While I agree with the ultimate intent of this post, I must protest has a short person and Hobbit lover the insult of Lieberman association.
With his patented “Surge Thruster?”
While I agree with the ultimate intent of this post, I must protest
has a short person and Hobbit lover the insult of Lieberman association.Yeah.
Change or DIE. It’s really becoming that simple.
Of course, to esteemed climatological scientist Tom Delay “there’s no evidence that humans contrivute to global warming. That’s arrogance to say there is.”
Decimation of our species looms.
Joseph Lieberman, Worst. Senator. Ever?
Discuss.
Positions far to the left of Lieberman? So that would be, like, Billy Kristol?
Bush, Lieberman…. so many places to distribute my contempt.
Some day someone will figure out that the coal industry has been the major mover of the Bush agenda- this exactly fits.
Focus, focus. Do not dilute it.
Joe Liarman: loser in three parties, two of which don’t want him and the third of which he hasn’t joined - officially. Also apparently trying to lose a second vice-presidential election. (I’d vote for him as president of vice, but I think Darth has it pretty much sewn up for the rest of the century. /s)
And Reid wants to keep JoeL as a committee chair next session?
Can someone do an MRI/CAT scan on Reid, to see if his brain is still working?
I love it, ’sanctimonious hobbit’. It just captures his total and utter pettiness. A physical manifestationof the nastiness that has been festering on the inside
Here are some new war casualty numbers for McBitterliarmanCo:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/...../79/496235
Jeebus, if Obama is so far to the left that he’s a marxist (not a Grouch Marxist, I take it), what doees that make us, off the edge of the planet? Obama’s much farther to the right than me, and I’m not a Marxist (except Groucho Marxist).
While there is probably no more than fifty years useful supply of oil left in the world- there are hundreds of years supply of coal around…the only trouble is that it’s filthy to use…
The coal industry sees itself as able to be the energy king- if only the govt. loosens emmissions regulations. That’s the game boys and girls.
This has probably been discussed here at length, but I’ve missed it. What is Lamont doing/saying these days?
1,813 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Hamsher:
When does it end??!! When do we not hear any of these sanctimonious gasbags who are whorin’ for corporate dollars…when do we not read what fake public servants like Joe Lik*derman have to say about REAL public servants…when does the light of truth illuminate the sufferin’ lives of most Americans? Well, I’ll tell ya, all a that happens when we dismantle every corporate economy around the world and when we deconstruct the completely corrupted and discredited capitalism that is dyin’ now for lack of oil resources.
We begin by playin the game and votin’ for Obama but the contest won’t be over until the mechanisms of corporate rule are destroyed and a new structure is put in place to insure equal protection and the rule of law…and that isn’t gunna happen entirely at the ballot box.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, VOTING IS NOT ENOUGH!!!
As a member of the Hairy Foot Clan though too tall to be a Hobbit can we please call Joe something else that?
Something that reflects his inner nature like Wormtongue perhaps if we must use Lord of the Rings images, or how about
GOPORC lover?I do not want the Lord of the Rings vote going for Joe. But Joe does have the Dark Lord vote locked up do to his service to Darth.
It is way past time for Nevadans to retire Reid to Searchlight and take JoeLiarMan with him.
Think of Joe as a French Tickler attached to AIPAC.
Politoco.com has apparently found an article on “African Socialism” written in an obscure East African Economics journal by Obama Sr. People over there are howling about how this “proves” Obama is a Marxist.
First off, this article and the views of his father could have had little impact on what Obama thinks. The article, written when Obama was 2 years old, had to be hunted down IN KENYA. It was likely only known within the Economics community in the East African region…the University professors, advanced students, Government ministers, an embassy staff involved in development studies. Unless one believes, as apparently some weirdos out there in the Conservative or pro-Clinton scene wish to, that politics are “in the blood” then this is simply a bit of trivia. For those who believe it is “in the blood”, well…you’ve got some other pretty big problems to deal with.
Second. For anyone actually interested in what Obama wrote within the African political landscape, his position was not at all what Mugabe advocated. In fact, Obama Sr. was clearly arguing for the integration of the European and Asian (i.e. Pakistani and Indian) economic successes into a system that benefitted all but maintaining their involvement. Thus he was warning Kenyatta away from the ethnic-based system of largesse that has subsequently plagued the country for decades. In addition he was suggesting that European-Kenyans and Indian-Kenyans be allowed to participate in the management of the countries future as well. He was arguing against “Idi Amin-ism”. For this he was destroyed poltically and economically by Kenyatta and KANU. As I pointed out the only people this article would have been a talking point for would have been those discussing the economic direction of Kenya. For Americans and Europeans it would have been a useful counterpiece to constrain overzealous ideologues in KANU…but for the USSR, China and other groups wanting to wrest Kenya away from Western hegemony it would have been an irritant.
As Obama Sr. pointed out, the Soviet model would be a failure for Africa. He mocked the catch-phrase “African Socialism” unless it actually reflected the African reality. He suggested that Western European Socialist models or other examples of “soft-State influence” through taxation and credits would be better in producing wealth and spreading prosperity.
The lesson here for Americans is how our own Media and poltical structures will distort and miseducate people about things, turning their meaning 180-degrees around from wghat they represented IN CONTEXT. The irony is that Obama Sr. was destroyed by many of the same methods that they are trying to use on his son. You tell an unpleasant truth and that appears to be what happens when those that prefer the status quo feel threatened.
It’s only restrictions against CO2 that keep the owners of coal from multiplying the value of their holdings by a factor of ten.
We’re talkin SERIOUS political wars here.
Clusterfuck has been a huge benefactor to those who wish to become the richest fuckers in the world.
yes
He didn’t grow up with his father. How absurd.
Those scientists…such elitists! What gives them the right to say how nature actually works rather than a man whose brain likely is constrituted of 50% insecticide. Oh wait, watcha wanna bet that Tommy Boy didn’t actually do a lot of that sprayin’ hisself. Watch wanna bet that he used a buch of illegal immigrants to do it!
Unless Markism can be transferred genetically:)
Lieberman needs to have Katrina thrown in his face….SOB.
Here’s the linky to the Tom Delay video clip wherein he made that moronic assertion.
Actually I disagree. I believe Delay DID do a lot of the spraying and such. I think in doing so, he inhaled WAY too many chemicals which goes a long way to explaining how his brain gets so twisted from the norm.
They’ll probably claim that based on creationism or something…/s
Great find, most-excellent analysis. Tip of me hat, cinnamon…
You rock. But they don’t care that it was a critique piece or that Obama was 2 yrs old. they will say that he (barakc) got it (socialism) via osmosis or some dormant mutated gene
Noron is gushing and all perky as the first
torturerfamily gets in the limo to go meet the Pope…Actually, I think “sanctimonious hobbit” is a bit too cuddly sounding for the Liebercreature.
Maybe “malignant dwarf”? “Insidious insect”? “Ignominious gnome”?
__________
I love this particular little canard: “Climate change may be a phenomenon, but there is no science to suggest that man is the cause of climate change…”
So, — putting aside the human causality thingy — whereas tornados or hurricanes or earthquakes or epidemics or __________ may be “phenomena,” we should undertake NO preventive / protective / ameliorative steps because they’re “naturally occurring”?
Right, Bug Man, right.
He’s what happens to a hobbit that wears the Ring too long.
Same allegory as in Star Trek actually. Anikin Skywalker tries to use the dark side of the force to overcome the Empire, and becomes absorbed by the evil.
FDL has been having a debate amongst some regulars on whether we want a candidate who plays dirty just like the Neo-Cons have been doing…and shows that in the Primary campaign. Or one that represents a “different type of politics”.
There are those who want to “go with what worked for THEM” and those that say, “look…theres a huge pool of dissatisfied disenfranchised potential voters out there. We can win by bringing them back into the process.” One carries the risk of the victory being lost because the winners assimilate into the same old system. The other carries the risk of the untried and unknown.
Well..it sure seems like the media is gonna march right along to November and proclaim McBitter the winner no matter what the voting results are…this has to stop. Lieberliar probably got wise and figured the only winning side to be on anymore is with the media and the Pukes. What a traitor.
We are probably at peak oil right now (about 5 years sooner than many of us thought even a couple of years ago). We may not have “hundreds of years of supply of coal”. The same people who were right about peak oil are now beginning to talk about peak energy by around 2030. If true, world population could decrease to 1 billion or less by 2100. Not saying this will happen but that there is a significant chance it could.
One thing is for sure, nobody will get out alive.
Hmmm. My first thought was Preston Brooks, who clubbed Charles Sumner on the Senate floor; but Brooks was a member of the House, and therefore potentially the worst member of that body. (Note that Franklin Pierce, who Brooks supported and Sumner opposed, was a kth-remove relative of the Current Occupant and his mother.)
This one’s worth some thought though. And HoHo’s flaccid chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee has got to figure in.
I maintain that my favorite word for Traitor Joe is a sanctimonious little putz. Using a yiddish term seems so fitting.
“world population could decrease to 1 billion or less by 2100. Not saying this will happen but that there is a significant chance it could.”
____________
Lovelock predicts human decimation (reduction to one-tenth of original magnitude). Which would be down to about a half-billion people.
So Obama is elitist, scientists are elitist, it won’t be long until we hear that the DFHs are elitist.
Did the Repubs hold a focus group that showed they can win in November if they tag their opponents with the elitist label?
Don’t you people know your Lord Of The Rings? LieberLiar is obviously Gollum. The once honorable man lost his soul for power, and became a miserable computer generated creature.
Yet, just a little more than two years ago, Lieberman, facing a strong threat from antiwar candidate Ned Lamont in the Democratic primary, invited Obama to give a major speech in Connecticut endorsing him for re-election — which some liberals still hold against Obama.
“I am absolutely certain Connecticut is going to have the good sense to send Joe Lieberman back to the U.S. Senate so he can continue to serve on our behalf,” Obama proclaimed then.
This is good stuff to inspire the Lefty base against Obama too bad Hilary never thought about inspiring us. Nope Mark Penn told her to waste her energy getting the 28%ers, and the nonexistent in an election polarized by the war Center to love her.
The neglected Lefty activist base, the Unions the Minorities went with someone we think can win and paid attention to our biggest concern end the war now.
Today Obama said he would instruct his Justice Dept to see if any Bushie is guilty of crimes. Thats the kind of thing that gets votes.
Next Obama should say that he will only appoint Supreme Court Justices in the Thurogood Marshal tradition Lefty Code for Pro Civil and Abortion Rights!
We need acts like this to keep our base constantly energized!
I was kinda thinking about shmok:
http://www.yiddishdictionaryonline.com/
McCain, Boromir’s crazy Dad who throws himself off the castle in flames?
OT–What have we done? Here is a paragraph from the Executive Summary of “Uprooted and Unstable: Meeting Urgent Humanitarian Needs in Iraq”, released today by Refugees International. Our neocon policies certainly are spreading love and friendship throughout the world:
The sheer magnitude of the ineptness of Bush and his minions is beyond comprehension.
We live in the Age of Stupid. A natural reaction of this Age is to deride and ridicule, if not curse, anyone who is likely to know anything.
I did say I agree with the intent. It really doesn’t need the “short” association to make it stronger.
BTW Hobbits in the story were very resistant to the power of the ring compared to others. Doesn’t seem to me Lieberman was ever resistant.
We just want our Everyday Low Prices.
The irony of the elites calling Obama elitest is going to blowback bigtime on them…
Will Lincoln Survive “Gettysburg” Comments?
Transcript from “Hannity’s America” November 20, 1863
Sean Hannity: Well, we’ve got the transcript right here and it looks like Mr. Lincoln’s really put his foot in it this time. The question for our panelists is: “After Gettysburg, Does Lincoln still have a chance for re-election?” Pat?
Pat Buchanan: I’d have to say no Sean. Right from the start he’s set himself up as another liberal elitist, hopelessly out of touch with the voters. “Four Score and Seven…” The number he’s looking for is eighty-seven. Maybe if he put down his chablis and brie plate for a minute he’d understand how real people actually speak.
Laura Ingraham: And the whole thing was written on the back of an envelope for cryin’ out loud. Hey Abe, get a clue: it’s called “paper.” Not everybody can use a perfectly good envelope, which as all Americans know is meant for mailing things… and he uses it for scratch paper! Give me a break!
Sean Hannity: Let’s go a little further down here to the comments that really seem to have set American’s teeth on edge, the part about not being able to dedicate, consecrate or “hallow”, whatever that means, this ground. Is it wise for someone running for re-election to tell us what we can’t do? Does he just hate Americans? Pat?
Pat Buchanan: Sure sounds like it to me.
Laura Ingraham: Well, he certainly doesn’t seem to care much for women that’s for sure: “Our fathers”? “Brave men”? “All men are created equal?” I tell you, if women could vote, they certainly wouldn’t vote for him!
Sean Hannity: And here he says we’re engaged in a “Great Civil War.” Really Mr. President? I bet there’s a lot of Americans out there who’d like to know what you think is so great about it. He also says “The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here…” I bet now he sure wishes we’re not gonna remember!
Pat Buchanan: I know it’s a small point, but isn’t “Abraham” a Jewish name?

TBogg, as usual, hits the nail on the fucking head:

interesting that the very people heaving the elitist name at Obama are:
the ones who want to keep the tax breaks for the super rich permanent
have eight homes
have millions of dollars on hand to lend self when needed.
just sayin
Franklin Pierce’s antecedentship to the former First Lady (OldBar) is the genesis of possibly the worst name ever bestowed on a child: 41’s grandson Pierce Bush.
.
You know, if Obama is looking for a Sister Soljah moment, I think RGJoe presents a perfect target for rejecting and denouncing the Old Style politics — in it for yourself, shifting to suit the prevailing winds, having a wife suckling at the lobbyist teat of Big Pharma, possibly traitorous divided loyalty, and calling him a Marxist.
Why can’t the Democratic party have a presidential candidate who rejects its crazy warmongering former member?
“Elitist” applied to Obama is the new code word for “uppity”. But it still exemplifies the glee that the Right takes when it positively revels and exults in knowing nothing.
shmok and awe.
that’s awesome but one question for the pups
who drinks chablis anymore?
That works too.
For Little Joey Shortride Gollum or Golem will work…
Lieberman as Gollum! Brilliant!
Woo Hoo! Randi Rhodes has been freed and is back on the Radio!
gollum is exactly right. but don’t forget, the ring gave gollum long life.
… and for another take on LOTR, from the perspective of trade activists, here is a great video: the ring of free trade (video).
Elitist” applied to Obama is the new code word for “uppity”.
Thats good thats something the “Boondocks” cartoon would have said.
Yeah, the ones who are also lovin’ this severe economic downturn — The Recession That Dare Not Speak Its Name –, the one enabling them to acquire even more assets at pennies-on-the$ distress sale prices.
I third the measure:)
Exactly. In fact, the first words I heard on CSPAN from wingnut callers was “uppity”…then about a day later “elitist” appeared…
his popiness is about to land. Who knew that he flew commercial? (albeit it’s landing at Anderws AFB) You trying to tell that the pope doesn’t have his own ride?
imo, there is also a chance of a major climate disaster. not saying it will happen… but if i understand correctly, there was once a big drop in o2 atmospheric levels about 251 million years ago. less likely now, but not, i think, impossible.
we are flirting with big-time risks as though they don’t exist while freaking out about iraq and iran.
stupid.
Oh this fine and vituperous post is the precioussssss.
but they have a fit if you tell them that because they swear that they are not racist
He’s got one of those cute little weird popemobiles too.
I want one. I wonder what the gas mileage is?
…but he’s a good guy because he still keeps the Sabbath…
Decimation. Coming relatively soon.
SwissAir or Alitalia?
My guess is the Pope is using a commercial charter. I.E., it is from one of the major airlines but the passenger list would be his crowd only.
DoD used to (and I imagine still does) charters flights from the major airlines and this would be a similar situation. For all intents it is a private flight…
Alitalia
oh this is beyond stupid. New item up in the news:
Michelle Obama’s College Roommate: “I Was Horrified” To Live With A Black Person
well, i’m not going to claim not to be subconsciously racist. but i don’t think that’s why i consider obama (and clinton and mccain) elitist. it’s their attitude towards the unwashed masses. and i don’t think arguing that they are not elitist gets us anywhere. no one is going to believe us.
but i still think it’s a stupid criteria on which to chose a president. who the fuck cares?
hehehe popemobile
Yes. I love the irony that someone so devoted to Homeland security can’t protect his own web site. go figure.
I wish I were so richly rewarded for my incompetence and unpopularity.
Not Virgin?
i’m not trying to argue who is or is not rahter that I find it ironic that the people lobbing this word around fall into one or more of the above (any of which could be considered elitist)
I agree with you there.
hope not. and i don’t think that worse case is all that likely - i just don’t think it’s out of the question. and the expected effects are bad enough.
Accompanying the Bushes on their little trip to welcome the Pope is Cokie Roberts.
Just remember that the next Sunday morning she chortles through her champagne mimosas at whichever pundit’s gettin’ “elitist” on Snuffy’s show.
Oh and I wasn’t insinuating that people are racist rather that they will shy away from that word and use elitist because they don’t want to be labeled as racist. (guess i should have been clearer)
Alitalia, for those who know…
“always late in taking off and always late in arrival”
Yep. Gollum was who Bilbo stole the ring from originally. “My Precious”.
Lieberman is vewwy, vewwy afwaid he’s gonna have his Ring stolen from him.
Hmmm…looks like Bush is late to meet the Pope…
I love the irony that someone so devoted to Homeland security can’t protect his own web site. go figure.
D’oh! I hadn’t even thought about it from that end, but you’re absolutely right, it is part of the problem. And he’d screwed that up before getting the chairmanship, so somebody cuddanode.
It’s not only the big stuff that counts.
Even if there were hundreds of years worth of coal, we would asphixiate ourselves on the emissions long before the time was up.
