gop.jpgMemo to whomever at NBC is responsible for booking Mary Matalin on "Meet The Press": for the love of God, please keep it up. Seriously.

Is there a more out-of-touch, unlikeable, or condescending advocate for the Republican Party out there?

The last time they extracted her from her coffin trotted her out there, she was arguing that working people’s finances are great — it’s just the liberal media that’s bumming them out.

MATALIN: Well, there’s an element of cognitive dissonance there, because if you ask them how their own personal finances are going, those numbers completely switch. Yes — he’s looking around. Those numbers are completely true. They absolutely switch on their own personal finances.

SHRUM: I think most people are getting very insecure about their personal finances.

MATALIN: That’s because they’re berated with these numbers.

But yesterday she had a truly banner day, referring to Vice President Last Throes as "this brilliant man," and insisting that Americans think the war in Iraq is awesome:

MR. SHRUM: I don’t think John McCain’s going to win the argument on the war. I think he’s going to be hurt badly in the next few months by being all-out for the war.

MR. MURPHY: That’s the Democratic primary argument.

MS. MATALIN: Right.

MR. MURPHY: In the general election, this has yet to really be fought out.

MR. SHRUM: Why do you guys keep saying that?

MR. MURPHY: Because it is.

MR. SHRUM: Sixty-five percent of people…

MS. MATALIN: Because.

MR. SHRUM: …oppose the war.

MS. MATALIN: They’re for it when you, when you–this is why you resist talking about progress.

MR. SHRUM: I don’t know why you keep saying it. This is not 2004.

MR. MURPHY: No, that’s…

MS. MATALIN: Because they’re for it and they think it’s worth it when they understand that progress is being made. That’s why you keep denying that progress is being made. Do you know what political progress is? People telling our soldiers where these roadside bombs are being buried. That’s a political progress.

Now these kind of padded-cell lunatic outbursts are truly music to any Democratic partisan’s ears since 65% of Americans disapprove of the Bush/Cheney/McCain policy in Iraq and 62% think we should’ve never gone in and roughly the same amount want to get out in a year.

The best moment, though, came when Mary tried to defend Mr. 28%.

MR. RUSSERT: Is Condi Rice relevant?

MS. MATALIN: Con–you know, what people don’t know about Dr. Rice is that she weighed in on every domestic issue before the president when…

MR. RUSSERT: But wouldn’t that be third-term Bush?

MR. SHRUM: Yeah.

MR. MURPHY: Yeah.

MS. MATALIN: You know, people are not–people are sick of this Bush bashing stuff.

So to summarize Mary Matalin: Americans are tired of people "bashing" President Bush, who they love and admire so much. People love the war and want to stay in Iraq as long as St. McCain and the big strong Republicans say we have to. The economy is great, it’s just that the media won’t tell the good news.

Here’s hoping St. McCain hires Matalin. In the meantime, to all the talking head political shows: please book this undead demoness woman as often as possible before the election. Thank you.
