I’m glad that people are still reading that expose of Brooks. He is snarky right wing comedian and political operative, and that article shows that at least some of his pop cultural anthropology ‘think pieces’ are fraudulent.

If he wants to fess up and admit he is basically a political hack, that is fine with me.

It is too bad. He could be a good reporter. I recently read a few posts from some kind of campaign blog at the NY Times that I thought were good reporting and almost gagged when I saw they were written by David Brooks. Is that the same David Brooks? If so, he could do a good job as an honest reporter-analyst. But he more or less admitted, in my opinon, that in college he he decided to shoot for maximum success with minimum effort, and I think he has stuck with that decision.

So, PW, what you are saying is that, like so many of his fascist friends, Foggy Fred is making shit up as he goes along. Who’d-a-thunk it. The great Washington Post, a pillar of the liberal-biased media, making up shit that favors John McCain. What can we count on if we can’t count on liberal bias in our media.

The Philadelphia Magazine expose on the pretense of Bobo Brooks, written September 2007, is really an eye-opener, like downing four ounces of horseradish with a teaspoon of V8 in the morning.

Brooks could be dismissed as little more than a snarky punch-line artist, except that he postures as a public intellectual — and has been received as one.

There are lots of other quotable observations that follow, but I spilled my coffee when I got to this one:

When, in 2001, Richard Posner ranked the 100 highest-profile public intellectuals, Brooks came in 85th, just behind Marshall McLuhan at 82nd, and ahead of Garry Wills, Isaiah Berlin and Margaret Mead.

Isn’t that the cue for Marshall McLuhan to chime in with, “The medium is the message”?

This thing about “Latte Liberal Elites” should probably be taken seriously. It’s one of the Gooper’s favorite issues—that dems look down on the working people of the nation cause they’re uneducated and love their guns and bibles.

They tried it in 2006…Yep!

I blame it on the spreading disease of Starbuck’s across the nation…now everybody drinks Lattes.

These are tales told after Hillary had taken her 20th shot of Jagermeister.

“There was a good reason why Chelsea and I were able to stroll across the tarmac in Tuzla without fear of sniper fire. When the Pentagon heard Bill bragging about about my sharpshooting capabilities from horseback they provided me with a special .305 caliber marksmen’s repeating rifle. I had ta’ take out six or seven of the Serbian snipers from the copter. Now Chelsea’s a pretty good shot herself,; she only got two…but accidently winged a Serbian penguin. Sinbad and Cheryl Crow were incensed at such “barbarity” {Hill making the “infamous” “Dr. Evil” “finger-twitch in the air to indicate ‘quotation marks’” while guffawing] against homosexual penguins. Those Judas’s have, of course, deceived the public ever since about the incident.

I always have tried to be humble about these hateful vegetarian conspirators, though. I havn’t corrected the record on this…I said my memories were vague of what happened at Tuzla….and they were, I downed four pints of Wild Turkey with my ‘boys’ in the 101st down there. But ever since I shot that Mastodon and a Bigfoot at the age of six from the outhouse behind the mud-floored hut in Scranton, Pennsylvania I’ve always supported the right to hunt <strike>men</strike> big game. And as a one-year old child, after I descended Mt. Everest and told the man who was to take my name, Eddie Hillary, I’ve only had ONE dream, NoO…two dreams…one was to be President…and the other was to bag my first yeti.

Damn Chinese have blocked of access to Everest this year…I was hoping to get the Yeti right after the convention and challenge McCain to a traditional Gurkha intestine eatin’ competition. Instead I’ll have to have us coat ourselves in Yak butter and swim naked across the Bering Strait! And he calls himself A MAN!”
