IIRC, Obama promised to open negotiations with the Repub nominee about agreeing to accept public funding. That is being spun by the media and the pundits (and the Repubs) to make it sound as though Obama accepted public funds.

Obama never applied for federal funds. He made a general statement about them regarding the GENERAL election. McCain DID apply and his campaign DID benefit – it’s too late for him.
