I’ve been worried for a while that it’s going to be difficult to get any traction on John McCain. The press love him, and he’s managed to push the "maverick moderate" image so far out there in the public consciousness that even people on progressive blogs have a hard time working up the antipathy for him that they feel for the Democratic candidate they happen to loath at the moment.
But I felt a bit of a shift this week with the release of Cliff Schecter’s book The Real McCain, when McCain was forced to publicly answer for stories contained in the book:
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for the first time has personally addressed some of the more explosive allegations in a new book on him, although his Fox News interviewer did not see fit to ask about his the vulgarity he allegedly flung at his wife during a Senate campaign.
Speaking to Fox’s Megyn Kelly Wednesday, McCain said reports of his explosive temper were "false or exaggerated," and he denied that punches were thrown during a meeting with fellow Arizona Republican Rep. Rick Renzi.
"No, in fact there were witnesses every time I have been around," McCain said. "The congressman is a good friend of mine, and we have a good relationship. … Those reports are either false or exaggerated."
Kelly also had asked about McCain’s reported "profanity laced exchanges with other lawmakers," but she made no mention of perhaps the most vulgar alleged exchange, in which McCain called his wife a "trollop" and a "cunt" during a 1992 campaign stop. Those reports all come from a new book, The Real McCain by Cliff Scheter.
That, my friends, is a first in this campaign — from a press more accustomed to asking "would you like fries with that, Senator McCain?"
Cliff’s book is climbing its way up the Amazon charts and is currently at #141, so give it some help and buy a copy. I know I’ve harped on it many times, but book sales = legitimacy in the eyes of the media, and having Cliff on TV telling the stories in his books is very very good for Democrats, no matter which candidate you think is Teh Awesome.

So? I’m bitter! *g*
Hi Jane…. did you see the billboards that KPHX put up all around Phoenix?
I want to read this book! And then pass it around to some of my McCain supporting friends (and in-laws)
This is why I love Cliff Schecter. He tells it like it is and throws no punches. Knowing that John McCain is now dragging his ass around the yard like a dog with worms because of Cliff’s book makes me so damn happy!
Jane! g’day!
Katymine, missed the signs (must have come back east too soon). What are they pray tell? A picture is worth a 1000 words… :)
John McCain: Not a hero for just doing his job.
Late last night I saw the picture of Hillary doing shots in Pennsylvania. I find myself intrigued by the possibilities here. What else might she be persuaded to do in her quest to prove that she is “regular folks”?
More of McSame billboard in Phoenix…
KPHX Billboard
What ever happened to the story about him and the lobbyist?
Folks are still talking about the cigar and the dress stain, as if that’s the worst thing He did.
Let’s just hope Schecter gets the face time with the truth that Coulter got with bullshit. I’m not gonna hold my breath. Jaded and cynical but I can’t help it.
Clear Channel?!?!?!
The best part of it is the small print on the bottom, “ClearChannel” I guess they are getting out of the censorship mode? Nah, probably not, more like they like to be in the profit mode.
All I’m going to say is….only an elitist sips her shots instead of guzzling one down like the rest of the normal folk do in this country! LOL I can’t wait to see the footage of her riding on a tank with an oversized helmet and sitting in a 1975 trailer with a poor family and saying to them, “You know. I used to live like this too. There is hope for you too if I can pull myself up by the bootstraps and make it in this country.” When will the footage of her moving brush piles on a fake ranch she purchased going to surface? Soon I bet.
katymine,
Thank you for the link. I am hopeful that showing McCain hugging Bush, or side by side as in the billboard, or making any connection of the two of them will be beneficial to the Democrats in spite of the MSM efforts to show what a great guy he is. I am definitely going to get Cliff Schector’s book.
Diff owner these days?
Re Jane’s prompting to buy the book, consider also:
buy two copies, one for you one for your local library
or, ask your local library to buy a copy
I had heard they were going to break it up but I don’t know where they are in the process.
or, email Chris Matthews and ask him to use the book as resource for questions when McShame visits Hardball….
or, has he been invited on Teh Daily Show or Colber[t] yet?
I heard a blurb a couple of months ago that Clear Channel was selling but then nothing after that. Guess it’s time for a little intertoobz research.
Thanx Katymine! LOL.
Here’s another story from HuffPo this morning. Warms my crusty ol’ heart to see that “market forces” are working.
Imagine that, Fredo unemployed.
Not in Phoenix but my guess is the billboard is owned by Clear Channel.
McCain has been on the Daily Show a lot. Jon Stewart hasn’t always kissed his @ss, though…
We need to encourage John to control his anger. And we should be encouraging the media to discuss effective anger management techniques with him.
There are so many good anger management sites out there, John. Give some of ‘em a try:
Controlling Anger — Before It Controls You
[…]
* Breathe deeply, from your diaphragm; breathing from your chest won’t relax you. Picture your breath coming up from your “gut.”
* Slowly repeat a calm word or phrase such as “relax,” “take it easy.” Repeat it to yourself while breathing deeply.
* Use imagery; visualize a relaxing experience, from either your memory or your imagination.
* Non-strenuous, slow yoga-like exercises can relax your muscles and make you feel much calmer.
[…]
(I’m sure there is a twelve-step program out there he could join as well.)
If you want to be President, John, better pwn your anger.
I believe the bid by Bain Capital to buy Clear Channel is on hold and both Bain and Clear Channel are suing the banks to force them to fund the deal.
CC owns most of the billboards in the country IIRC. They’re everywhere. That’s another reason we have a hard time getting our message out.
Well, that didn’t take long.

More McBush info…
Haunted By Spirits
Yeah, I think you’re correct. Surprising that they’d allow an anti-Republican candidate message to get out there, especially in the candidate’s home state.
You would be correct. Thanx.

McCain being asked tough questions is definitely good news, but I am having a difficult time trying to figure out the source of these quotes.
Jane, can you please provide more information or a link for the source of the quotes contained in this post?
Jane,
It is sometimes frustrating: There are so many good books out there being published that expose the extremely awful policies and behaviors of the GOP, the corporations and their enabling journimalists and pundidits, that if I buy all the books, there will be no time left or money left to fight for our progressive candidates.
That’s how many great books by progressives and realists are being published right now.
ET
You are doing such great work in Alaska and I enjoy hearing about it. I hope you will keep us informed often because the politics of Ted will keep us amused and amazed for many hours. Thanks for all you do.
if i were St. John i’d get my hands on as many Hensley millions as i could just to buy up the book so fewer Americans would see the cover.
Chalk another sale up.
Here is another one on McSame’s relationship with AZ blacks
Arizona blacks: Where’s McCain?
This is my belief why he has such a positive view of war…..
Hiya, Twain!
Thanks. Progressives in AK have the best chance in a generation to re-energize the Democratic Party here, and to take this state back for its citizens. Lotsa work to do.
Were there any racial minorities among the pilots who were in McCain’s camp or other major POW camps in North Vietnam? I don’t recall any.
Hiya Jane! Hey y’all!
Well, his “godfather” in politics St. Ronnie was pretty insensitive about the same issue. Philadelphia, MS anyone?
John McCain: Worships Reagan, Acts like Bush. Could there be a worse combo going forward into the new millenium.
((((((((((Snarkassandra!))))))))))
Still too early here to imagine anything. Need to jump start my brain. Maybe I’ll take a few sips off mr wobbs elitist blend coffee (it sure ain’t sanka)
Somebody said that they should fire all the press that has media passes to McCain’s bus and every TV station and newspaper send someone new that hasn’t had a BBQ at his house. That makes sense.
HI!!!!
what’s sanka?
Here I thought McBush was trying to win! How’s he trying to do that by denying that he punched Rick Renzi (who has been exposed as stealing folks insurance premiums and using them to further his political ambitions, and other serious charges of public corruption!) and says no, they are good friends! He would have been better off letting people think he punched him. At least the people who Renzi stole from would have had some satisfaction from it.
And Katymine, I don’t get out much, so I hadn’t seen those billboards. I sure love them, though!
Yes, there were actually. Several African-American and Hispanic flyers were shot down/captured. Everett Alvarez was a Navy Pilot and was also the first detainee (there for almost 10 years). I think Fred Cherry(?), and african american was there about the same or less time as McCain. There were others, believe.
Hey Cassie, glad to see you here. How’ s school going?
Alvarez, BTW is a huge McCain supporter.
Yeah. When I was stationed in Hawaii, the PACAF comptroller was an African-American, Col. Thomas Madison, former POW. Don’t know where he was held though, just know that he was a POW.
SANKA= first generation attempt at de-caf coffee.
school’s good. it’s easier than my old school but i am in a bunch of clubs and activities and i am on the school newspaper here. that’s pretty cool, but a lot less time for blogs.
sounds pretty blech!
Hi Cassie!
Hey folks. Free pancakes still available downstairs if anyone’s still hungry.
Now, on to read….
the ’shots’ thing about hillary, well, a few years back a senator was on the radio being interviewed about her and other senators who were on a diplomatic trip, when she was new to the senate….don’t remember which one, he said on a senate trip, she got everyone to slam shots. think it was vodca. said she got everyone to loosen up and talk over things about their trip.
so i don’t think she’s a sipper
That. is. awesome.
McCain is very unpopular with the press in his home state — Arizona Republic, New Times, etc. I wish the gasbags would have some of the reporters who’ve been covering McCain for years on the shows, not just those who know him in the DC circles.
OMG! Sanka (Sans Kaffeine)… famous stuff. Orange packaging, I believe and in the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the biology teacher begs his class to be kind to him … “I just switched to Sanka”… tons of other movie/TV references to it. My grandparents were addicted to that crap.
for your reading pleasure
I thought so too. Kozmik Karma, eh?
OMG it was soooooooooooooo bad.
Explain to me how McBush can be in contact with everyday Americans when he has lived in this house since he married Cindy McBush?
Senator McCain is Having Trouble Selling his Phoenix Mansion
McBush is a gater….. one of those snobs who live in gated communities to keep the riffraff out…
exactly…lots of pop culture references. BTW, nastiest coffee I have ever had the displeasure of sipping (okay it was just three sips)
My neighbors’ brother in SoCal, is a dyed in the wool repub, and HE thinks McCain is the/a Manchurian Candidate. HE is going to vote for Obama.
I wonder if this is a under the radar repub meme. Or even if folks on our side have considered that.
And it was. Not sure if it’s still on the market but if it is, it still is probably blech…
that put the biggest grin on my face (think Cheshire cat grin)
I saw that last night & had to hoot. There’s justice for ya. Olde fashioned kind.
Hehehe riffraff.
I admit. I’m frustrated! Thanks Obama for letting the world know, I’m angry and frustraited. It’s hard for me to be bitter. I’m so grateful for every day that when a gentle breeze touches my skin it makes everything wholesome. But count me among the angry and frustraited.
Morning Jane! Another glorious Sierra foothills blue skies day. I’m planting my summer squash this morning. First, wanted to catch your toughts and words.
McCain reminds me of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s allegory The Great Stone Face. He is definitely Old Stony Phys (Physiognomy)
Did you all know that the bright orange handles on coffe pots in coffe shops are due to Sanka (like someone mentioned, the bright orange label). Seems that sanka was the only decaf coffee available in coffee shops for a while
Yeah, whoda thunk that a Law Firm might not want to hire a lawyer who has never practiced law and might be indictd for Perjury any day? Not to mention very publically exhibiting either early-onset Alzheimers (oh, the health care costs involved with hiring him! My My!) or just the worst memory in modern history.
Does anyone know if the stuff on the following site is legit?
“If you’ve ever been to jail for justice
Then you’re a friend of mine.” (Pete Seeger)
That kinda riffraff. *G*
Hmm…link didn’t work.
http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com
?
Translation: legal bootlegers
You want to make lots of money? Go into contraband and once you’re filthy rich make the contraband legal so you can skirt the law.
Sort of. I think it’s from a guy who hates McCain, but he’s no friend to any progressive. I think he was a player in the SwiftBoat Liars.
@75 spelling correction: bootleggers (two g)
If you read the link at comment #27 clearly calls Hensley a bootlegger… they were the AZ mob…
Does being held count or does one actually have to have been arrested? Would that make one riffraff like?
Just think, some of the other Bushies might see that and think about their own future employment. Might actually make them think about telling the truth for a change.
I believe the guy behind that site was also behind a lot of the attacks on John Kerry.
Seems to have more of an ax to grind against ‘Nam vets who became known and didn’t react exactly as he would so I’d take the attacks with a grain of salt.
YMMV
now now. they describe the little bungalow as “casual southwestern style.”
sounds cute & cozy. /s
I am bitter that National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley, does not support a boycott of Olympic Opening Ceremonies. But wait, Hadley does not know the difference between Nepal and Tibet.
He should be Insane McCain’s National Security Advisor. Crazy John does not know the difference between Iran and Iraq.
How come “bootlegger” sounds romantic and cool and “meth lab” sounds dirty and gross?
You might want to start here. Scroll down to the photo. There’s a bio of Kiley toward the end. The commenter obviously has a bias re Kiley but it looks like he’s got his facts on Kiley right. Looks like another O’Neil-Kerry hate-on. O’Neil is such a scumbag.

Cindy, John McCain’s trouble and strife
Subtitle: Her husband is willing to take the weight of America on his shoulders. But is Cindy McCain secretly hoping he loses his bid for the White House?
In my book being held counts. You’ve still been involuntarily deprived of your freedom, whether its 10 minutes or 10 days.
YAY! i’m riffraff!
Welcome to the club.
And cheap at only $4.2 Million! And these are the same people that call Obama, who relatively recently paid off his student loan debts, elitist. Oh, well, at least McBush and the Clintons are in the same tax bracket.
Because as afwul as alcohol can be when abused, there is no controllable “social use” of methadrine that I’m aware of. I’ve seen alcoholics drink themselves to death over the course of years or decades, but I’ve seen people lose their teeth, their eyesight, their skin, their internal organs, their lives, in a matter of months when using meth.
what I want to know is HOW did a DEA investigation in to drug shopping and stealing drugs from a non-profit just misappear?
The doctor lost his ability to earn a living and Cindy McBush went to a few NA meetings….. wow that sounds so fair…
OT: any one read this yet–it’s spengler’s latest atimes thing on Obama…
http://atimes.com/atimes/Front_Page/JB26Aa01.html
oops, slightly old but it’s making the email rounds among repugs that I know
Thanks for the linky. Wow! Once again, crime pays handsomely. Nothing was missing from robbery, illegal activity, murder of a journalist who’s investigation of little Cindy’s family got too close.
McCain chose well for a partner and running mate. Cindy wants to be duh Furst Lady so bad. Pass the bottle and let’s have a powder snort to celebrate ;~D
Things in the far past can be romanticized through a rose color filtered lens and things in the present are so close you see all the warts and thorns.
once we get a working justice department there will be a nice warm fed jail cell awaiting him
fed prison is a little too nice for the likes of him. Can’t we institute chain gangs in federal prison? It would be the first honest day’s work the man has ever done
Several times I have commented that Cindy McBush is NO sweet little lady… her father & uncle convicted of FEDERAL crimes….. yet she inherited that little cottage…. I have heard from people who have had contact with her and she comes across as a snippy B*tch….
but she is described to be a First Lady on the line of Jackie Kennedy……BY God….. we knew Jackie Kennedy and Cindy McBush you will NEVER be a Jackie Kennedy…
Dakine,
What trashy writing….
Michelle Obama’s eyes ‘were hooded with rage’?
When did Pat Buchanan start writing under the alias of Spengler?
-GSD
what was it he called them? stress positions? sounded so innocuous…
Jackie had smiling eyes – Cindy’s look as if they would freeze alcohol. I have never seen anyone with such cold eyes.
The laughter, I just can’t contain!
Never thought such a dame could campaign,
And bolster her fight,
With ‘points’ from the right,
Each day she sounds more like McCain!
And what the hell happened to Bill?
To his dear wife, again he’s a pill!
If you want to bring your spouse,
Back into the White House,
You should try not to be such a shill.
When the Gopers anointed McCain,
They knew they’d be missing the train.
They’ll soon be in trauma,
When Barack Obama,
Flushes their dreams down the drain!
Our candidate’s name is Barack.
He’ll come under right wing attack.
But he’ll win the day,
Standing far from the fray,
If Howard Dean’s watching his back!
Some interesting background on McCain (cerca 2000) and his outlaw in-laws:
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/f…..wanted=all
You’ve got that right. I’ve met Jackie Kennedy a number of times and she was always just as gracious as one could be. She definitely had a warmth about her.
For the record, that was Dakinikat not Dakine…
agreed. and purposefully chilly, I strongly suspect.
the mouth speaks volumes also, even without spoken words.
it does move on occasion. just watch. chilling.
you want some elitism?!? Voila!
Hmmm yes, i believe it was ’stress positions’. Why not let him try out of few of these ‘positions’ and then do a little manual labor (hell the hillsides in so. cal are in need of brush clearance or better yet let him do his time in NOLA)
I think Michelle Obama will be a wonderful Jackie 2.0 – for all eight years of their terms. Cindy and her husband are Nightmare 3.0
Does our side buy books in bulk like they do to drive ‘em up the lists? If not, why not?
LOL
In her wildest drugged out dreams. Jackie Kennedy is a one of a kind first class act and no one since has come even close. Maybe Cindy is better compared to the likes of a Brittney Spears or Paris Hilton – deep pockets and shallow brain.
Ooops….more coffee, need more coffee.
-G
did you write that?
I dunno. I can see some siliraity between Jackie and Cindi. Jackie was a Fifth Avenue type. McCain’s wife looks like she belongs in Sach’s window.
teehee nightmare 3.0, you are speaking the truth right there
Because we’re honest and prefer to let the book sales (and arguments) stand on the merits and not adopt the tactics of subterfuge and lying used by the right wing.
Makes the task a bit more difficult but we can sleep honestly and don’t have to build on the lies.
So there has been a lot of facts put out here in this post today….
WHAT are we going to do about it?
Did someone Digg it?
Has anyone sent the post url to people in your email address book?
Will anyone engage in spreading this info to your neighbors?
How about buying lots of the Real McCain and giving them away…. do a book report at your local progressive group…. we need to push back on the “friendly” McBush media….. push push push…
meant “similarity.” duh. I can spell. Just can’t type.
Say it again AT. (standing applause)
yur funny.
She does have a mannequinesque thing going, but it is that reptilian coldness in her eyes and pinched mouth that creeps me out.
That’s what i thought. I agree with you.
sort of, one by one by one, and so on, and so on…
have you bought yours yet?
have you asked your library to order it?
have you asked your local congresscritter to read it?
there are ways.
yes. Did the same back in the Dean campaign…
just a little insight into what the swiftboat ads are going to be, having be the recipiant of rightwing republican attacks while running for office, i have to say, i like to know what they’re going to be push polling about
Mannequin Part Deux
The Blonde

Superficially, but only to the untrained eye. /s
Cindy is more like Babs – W’s mom in her earlier years.
Really. I guess it’s not right to make fun of another person’s physical appearance, though. No more from me.
This week.
heh heh. visions of a half-dressed manniquin in the display window being rearranged, or re-deranged….
between which there is a distinct difference ;)
Hadn’t thought of any of those. Thanks. Wel,, except buying it myself, but i haven’t done that. Looks like I should.
We’re not talking about a big nose or a fat butt.
There’s something scary about her insides that are reflected in the eyes and mouths….
Ya know?
very cool
How soon before we hear that McCain is appealing to the average voter by dropping the c-bomb on his wife?
-G
yep!
says a lot about him, too…
Hi pups,
Looks like the McSame campaign has moved into the toy aisle. Foam darts is about all he can muster, but it caught my eye.
The MAVERICK blaster features a six-dart rotating barrel with easy flip loading so you don’t have to waste any time while blasting enemy targets!
Maverick Blaster
It’s much much better than Postum. Why my parents had that in the house when coffee was available I will never know.
it aint the OUTWARD APPEARANCE thatcounts….. its whats inside that determines who one is….. pretty outside…. ugly as all hell inside in many cases – jus sayin ……
Hiya Margot!
My Dean Limericks were actually written up in “The Weekly Standard.”
They have to get their acgt together.
They spent a lot of effort making Obama into a Manchurian Muslim, then they tried the angry Black Panthter separtist…
Now they are ruining all of that framing by making him into an effeminate bowler who likes arugula and is a Cambridge limousine liberal elitist.
-G
Hey Greg! Great minds…
triangulating even…
People used to say “pretty is as pretty does”. Still true.
Why did people drink that again?
Whoopsie daisy! When do we get charged with a foul for piling on?
*ducks*
Actually if some of them skinny thangs hung out at the Lake on Sunday mornings, they could eat pancakes. Fills out the wrinkles and is safer than botex.
postum, that is
me STILL say that ;o)
I just watched Washington Week with Gwen Ifill. She closed the show with her and Time magazine’s Karen Tumulty tut-tutting Obama for flip-flopping on public financing. No mention of McCain’s violations of Federal Law. I think something should be done about this myopic viewpoint.
Hell, arugula is cheaper here than a head of iceberg lettuce so maybe it won’t be elitist food for too much longer
[snark on]as opposed to a beer (money) swilling elitist?[/snark off]
OMG I love you for that! Better than therapy. Thanks! ;->
Gwen Ifill, a legend in her own mind. I honestly remember no actual reportage committed by that woman.
Hiya Jo!
Wobbly, because during WW2 there was rationing of coffee, sugar, lots of things. Postum was toasted grain. Add boiling water to cornflakes; that’s pretty much the taste.
IOKIYAR
Let her know how you feel, email her.
Jane has put some sweat equity into this one. I figured she should know about it. We should push back every time on this stuff.
I’m so happily ”bitter” that I am going to buy this book today! Thanks, Jane.
That was the first thing I did.
Any time, hon, any old time.
In my licking my wounds mood this am, I also fried some pork chops. So, I had to make some gravy. So, then I had to make mashed potatoes.
Dig in.
Cliff rawks! We need him on everywhere!
I had a feeling that it might have had something to do with food rationing. thanks for the info (I was too lazy to google).
toasted grain…so it tasted like watery cream of wheat?
Lessee, Obama’s “bitter” remark took place how many days ago?
But, my hometown rightwing rag (Las Vegas Review-Journal) waited til this morning to run it, giving it the page one above the fold blazing lead headline.
LOL!
Not so much, to me anyway. Maybe more like the flavor of wheateees.
shit. that’s crazy.
oh egads.
True.
I e-mailed Gwen and vented – felt good.
Have to say that the ad for Glenn’s new book on the front page here is hilarious. I enjoy it every time I see it.
Didn’t see anything on the Sunday talking heads about Bush authorizing torture.
I asked a few questions up thead…. what are we going do about getting this info out?
Trying to put together an action plan that everyone could do 5-10 minutes a day and push back….
If a media outlet receives thousands of emails about subject “A” over and over again…. they just might look into it… but if all they hear is crickets….. we will ALL get crickets…
Hey, anything they can do to stick the knife in Barry (whose full Christian name, btw, is Sheik bin al BaraBlackHusseinMadrassaOsamaBama, fyi)
For the record, Hillary did sip the shot first before throwing her head back:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..96396.html
Clinton stood by the bar and took a shot of Crown Royal whiskey. She took one sip of the shot, then another small sip, then a few seconds later threw her head back and finished off the whole thing.
Clinton later sat down at a table and enjoyed some pizza and beer, and called over Mayor Tom McDermott of Hammond, Ind., to come join the table.
“Every time I get around you we start drinking, senator,” the mayor exclaimed.
Clinton nodded and raised her glass.
“It’s Saturday night, though, Tom,” she said.
She’s a dainty sipper and not a right wing “throw your head back and lick your arm” kind of shot drinker like she wants everyone to believe she is. Just thought I’d point that ought. I know, “Kay, it doesn’t matter!”. I know. ;-)
it’s sad isn’t it. our laughable press. “Bitter” on page one and no mention of the crimes — Bushie admitting to approving torture — after all of his lying to the American people…it makes one down right bitter.
Time for me to go. Have a great day firepups…anger can be a great motivator.
Things to think about that are not on Clear Channel or No Spin Zone TV or on the government department of education agenda, even SNL sees the joke with this election.
McCain lost my support with Mr. Gramm.
1980’s McCain claims “mistake” with Keating 5 & $500 Billion savings & loan scandal= very bad.
2004 McCain takes on Boeing $6 Billion rip off tanker lease deal = great.
2005 McCain takes on Abramoff lobbyist $25 – 40 Million corruption = great.
2008 McCain chooses his financial adviser texan Mr. Gramm kingpin of the start of the sub prime CDO $1 Trillion + rip off = very very bad ( give us candy while robbing our bank accounts )
Now for Hillary = Bushlite
And Obama = Affirmative action on steroids to be paid for by the middle class. Just as Mr. Cheney wants to level the paying field by devaluing the dollar (deficit spending, low interest rates & Iraq war) so your average American worker’s pay will approach the world average cost . Mr. Obama will achieve the same by mandating / laws paying everyone (middle class) the same regardless of performance / meritocracy and increasing the taxes on the middle class, especially those that do not qualify for being special. Do you really think he is going to take $500 million from Oprah or $10’s of billions from the Waltons to pay for his visions / dreams??
The root of most of this goes back to Woodrow Wilson when he & his friends laid the foundation that we are peasants owned by the government & the government owns everything we have, of course those with extreme wealth own the government and make the rules. Property tax = you never own land/homes, you lease it from the government. Income tax = your work belongs to the government. Federal reserve = private banks / individuals loan money to USA peasants. Department of Education = government will decide what you learn / know & peasants will pay taxes to support it, no you cannot opt out of paying unless you want to live in a home that is on wheels and moves around.
More of the same will not fix this.
If you do the same thing over & over with the same results & then expect it to be different if you do it again, your doctor calls this ???
All of you with great memories of the 1990’s, the door was opened to NAFTA & China manufacturing, which USA worker can complete with China. So you can buy cheap stuff at Walmart, result $25 per hour jobs to China, replaced by $8 per hour jobs at Walmart?? During the 1990’s the Waltons added $10’s of Billions of wealth to their assets. The dotcom clowns made billions ( who do you think they got those billions from ??). Get real people what job in the US is safe if Chinese workers are allowed to do it?? High school teacher can easily be replaced if they allow the Chinese teacher here at $500 per month, same goes for all our health care workers. So we only protect jobs in the US by not allowing the foreign competition on our soil. So if we are 99% service society how do we add value to keep our currency strong & world commodity prices from escalating.
Of course if you were on the top of the 1990s pyramid times were better, same goes for the Bush times, if you are on the top of his pyramid, times have been good, selling homes until 2007, working for FEMA, working for Blackwater, working for Pulte homes, working for Haliburton — lots & lots of people have had very good times with Bush II.
Again the extreme wealthy own the government & the government owns the rest of us — we need a paradigm shift to a scary place with a 3rd party and a reversal of Woodrow Wilson. To many excuses & to much apathy with what is going on.
Whats a billion here or there next to this families name, for 99% of our society you might as well say they made a bazillion in the 1990’s or in the 2000’s.
I know, I know. I’m bad.
It’s for later in the day, tho.
Piling on who? Cindy McCain? Thank you, but, um, no.
Oh, man. I said I wasn’t gonna do that any more this week.
The Yoonitary Executive. Not “torture” if He authorizes it. Get With The Program.
So?
But what did you think of their riveting discussion concerning Yoo’s memo and the discussion of torture, approved by Bush, in the White House?
Must’ve happened when I blinked.
So? Its time for everyone to vote them all out and have more than 2 choices which is to close to no choice.
Its time for everyone to vote in a third party & change the my turn your turn game we have.
Why didn’t George Step….. correct him?
The passage of time. Hi Cassie
And I think her attacks on Obama are so irksome and bring to mind the slime of the attacks from the other side. O dear, a mistake; slip of the tongue. Get over it. For her to play that elite theme against him is absurd; she’s not exactly a high school drop out. Why is she demeaning her own self just in order to sing the R’s tune?
I don’t know which is worse, Washington Week or Newshour. These Beltway journalists have imbibed so much Kool-Aide they just can’t get away from the spin. I can’t remember when I’ve heard an honest discussion of any issue on WW. I no longer bother with Newshour.
I’ve exchanged emails with someone who calls himself StealthActivist from the site. Seems like I had words with this guy before the election in 06. He was running the same kind of scam on Kerry. I believe he was even using the same screen name. Said he’s been “…walking point for the past 25 years…” for MIA/POW issues. Funny, I don’t remember seeing Kiley’s name attached to official stuff from the serious MIA/POW organizations. I think this guy’s more pathetic than Jim O’Neil and his hate relationship with Kerry. I told him the same thing I did two years ago – that I didn’t appreciate him trying to smear the service of combat veterans. Kiley’s bio shows he was in the rear with the beer. Just another scumbag. He’s linked to Congressman Duncan Hunter, if that tells ya anything.
One of these days, I hope to understand all the inside verbiage tossed around in the progressive arena. It sometimes feels like, if ya don’t read a particular blog on a specific day, you miss an inside joke that triggers laughs at the slightest reference to the punchline.
‘Teh gay’ puzzled me for a bit till someone pointed me to the reference point. But at least I could guess at that one.
The one I’ve seen 3 or 4 times that’s puzzling me now: what the heck does ‘pwns’ mean?
Whenever you’re confused by things like “teh” or “pwns” just look at one of two things. either re-arrange the letters (for “teh”) or check the letters around the ones used in the confusing “word”. For “pwns” you’ll see that the o is right next to the p – just becomes a purposeful typo rather than a mistaken one.
Pwns (owns)
Like “pwn3d” (owned)
A misspelling that grabbed hold.
Thanks dakine01 and newtonusr! That makes much more sense than ‘pawns’ or some of the acronyms that some come up with.
I appreciate the assist.
Btw, I did figure out ‘teh’ means ‘the’, but the phrase ‘teh gay’ referenced a particular origin that I needed direction to, even though I corralled the sense of it.
I’ll pay closer attention to typos hereafter though. My most common one occurs when I use contractions like doesn;t.
