A little bit of the night before for those of you struggling to make sense of the morning after: Fabulous Irish musician Peter Yeates and friends, performing as The New Shilling, doing it up brown on a little tune that is allegedly based on a true event. Seems that during the time of the Second World War in Ireland, the wood for barrels for alcoholic beverages was in somewhat short supply, so barrels had to be reused whenever possible, and so some cider was stored in casks which had just held sherry. The sherry that had seeped into the wood seeped back out again into the cider, thus creating a beverage of compelling smoothness that seemed like plain old cider but had a kick like a mule’s hoof — hence the name "Johnny Jump Up". Enjoy, and think of the fun you had the night before, or might be planning for tonight, or that you might have had a long time ago, or plan to have in the future!
