One Democrat noted that the Thursday vote creates a situation in which the party could come under increased fire from organized labor if it moves ahead later this year. It would then be a Democratic decision to proceed rather than one forced upon them by the White House.

“We own it now,” said the Democrat, who did not want to be named because he was raising concerns about the speaker’s decision.

Which is, I’m guessing, why she did it: Because now anyone who backs it will have officially gone on record as screwing labor.

This may well be Pelosi’s Poison Pill to kill this once and for all when it comes up for a vote.

Oh, no. I agree that “trade” agreements primarily promote the interests of American companies overseas’ ambitions and rarely work to benefit US workers. They’re a form of “trickle down” economics, being so familiar a piece of legislation, they can and often do hide very untrady things.

Before we start cheering for Nancy Pelosi standing up to W, we ought to remember that she is in large part responsible for Bush and Cheney continuing in office without being tried for the high crimes and misdemeanors they have most certainly committed. In short, she is still obstructing justice. A plague on all their houses…
