Lemme see…how does this all work together?

Bush is announcing that AFTER AUGUST (i.e. starting sometime in September) the length of Army tours will be reduced back to one year. But o course that’s not applicable for another FIVE MONTHS…and anyone currently over there, or sent over during the “FREEZE of the drawdown” (which in reality was simply the end of the 16 month tour cycles of those sent in during the surge) will NOT be affected.

So there really wasn’t a “draw down” at all…since the reductions were simply that tours were normally ending. No one got sent home “early”.

And everyone sent over to Iraq through the summer hell in Iraq will still be there for 16 months! Not one soldier returning home during Bush’s term of office will have “benefitted” from his action…an action that would have likely been undertaken immediately upon entering office by the next President in any case.

And all of this is simply a return to the conditions that experienced Army psychologists say is necessary to prevent mental illness amongst those in combat!

The one little bit of good news is the House didn’t let shrub and the repugs threaten them so it is out of fast-track and shrub’s control. The repugs used everything. They called up Al Quida, terrorists, Chavez scare, swearing it was good for American workers, it would make more jobs in US, we the people would benefit and on and on. It was Rumpelstiltskin all over again.

this is a MASSIVE slap in the face to Bush. The House now does not have to consider it at all.

which means we’ll be treated to another sob fest from McConnell, Boehner, and Sammy the Bull Blunt - can’t wait

thanks for all the suggestions Tula - some of them are so easy yet feel so good ! love the Catch the Flame

Here’s another good deed that can be done today. Help stop the persecution of breastfeeding moms by supporting the Breastfeeding Promotion Act (H.R. 3799). Sign the petition over at MomsRising.org.

I’m going to be interested to see how my union (ALPA) behaves this year, it’s the first year I have been a member in a Presidential election cycle.

Especially in light of all this “newly discovered” inspection stuff with the MD-80’s. I suspect that the laissez-faire FAA political appointees were doing their best to drown the FAA inspection process in Grover’s Tub.

A shame that said political appointees did not quite understand that despite a public lack of understanding about Prions and Mad Cow (USDA) and fecal matter and e. coli, the traveling public can easily break the code on airplanes that ice up, and landing gear that doesn’t extend as visible safety issues.

Thursday, April 10, 2008

Public approval of President Bush has dipped to a new low in the Associated Press-Ipsos poll, driven by dissatisfaction with his handling of the economy.

A survey released Thursday showed 28 percent approve of the overall job Bush is doing. That was statistically tied with his previous low in the poll of 30 percent last month and in February.

So sorry to hear, BoxTurtle. Outsourcing does not have to happen like this–we need to elect a Congress that will penalize Corps for sending jobs overseas and reward them for keeping good jobs here. Right now, we have the reverse.

Obama once commented that companies that outsource would go to the end of the line for Government contracts. That would make a real difference.

There are a LOT of companies that would be impacted by that more then they’d save by outsourcing.

The serious suggestion of that in cognress would result in a multibillion windfall for they lobbyists, though.

Boxturtle (Therefore, we must fix the tax code FIRST so we get most of it back ]:-) )
