Login HereI started transcribing this video from Lamont/Lieberman primary day 2006 but frankly I'm just too pissed to do it. Although the FBI investigation in to the incident was concluded in 2006, due to the perseverance of the Stamford Advocate the results were revealed today, and found what we all know to be true at the time -- no blogger hacked into Joe's website.
Joe Lieberman crashed his own website.
But that didn't matter. Joe needed a way to own the news cycle, and gave it to himself by flapping his lying weasel lips all day long for the benefit of the cameras. And they let him. Over and over again. Watch the clip of Matthews talking to LieberLiar Sean Smith (who went on to teach at Yale about how to run a campaign). Matthews then made Ned Lamont come on and distance himself from blogger terrorists who would do such a thing. Which Ned did.
It was a completely trumped up issue that never should have been given a bit of oxygen beyond "crazy old Joe Lieberman's got nothing in the tank but a bunch of wild conspiracy theories," but it was everywhere all day. I remember sitting in the blogger room and staring at the TV with Bob Geiger and Mike Stark in open-mouthed disbelieve as it ran across the fucking chiron. It was the Story Of The Day, when that story should have been how anti-war candidate Ned Lamont was proving everyone wrong in their "shhh, don't talk about the war" wisdom that had dominated Democratic politics. It changed the general election. Its effects reverberated far past Connecticut and shook not only the party but the country to its very foundation. And yet all the talking heads were focused on were some calculated hysteria from Joe "nobody wants to end the war more than me" Lieberman and nobody challenged him about what an obvious crock it all was -- then or now.
Anyone who reported on this and doesn't want to give the same amount of time to re-evaluating this embarrassment, and what it reflects about our media system that this kind of thing could happen, should find themselves another profession.
Lieberman won't comment. So story over, right? He effectively kills it by shutting his mouth. Meanwhile, he filed charges with the FBI that anybody with half a brain knew to be false, purely for political purposes. Screwing with law enforcement and wasting their time for political grandstanding. It's immoral and one would guess illegal.
It wouldn't be so bad but this corrupt prick and the hacks who work for him, like Dan Gerstein, are allowed to lie over and over again and nobody ever calls them on it.
It's fucking disgraceful.

Wasn’t there a question about tens of thousands of dollars of “walking around” money given to Lieberman’s campaign staffers? Where did it come from, where did it go?

More disgrace: The exonerating (to Lamont) damning (to Lieberman) email from the FBI was dated October 25. The election was about 2 weeks later, November 7.

Holy Joe is technologically impaired. I can tell you this is a big hahahahah among techies. Holy Joe would be more comfortable with a horse and buggy so of course, those bloggers, those of some other mind, had to be the culprits. Always suspect what you don’t understand.
Here’s the big dumb-dumb part. The FBI took up the case. They could have brought in one good techie from the Valley who would have uncovered the root of the problem in an afternoon with a simple fee of a couple humdred dollars. But nnnooooo! Holy Joe has to call in the FBI at tax payer expense and make a total ass of himself and the FBI for getting sucked in.

Just listened to Orin Hatch chastise “us” for being unwilling to ’stay the course.’ Using the words of Thomas Paine, he laid out a course of unwavering (and unthoughtful) support, urging us that if our cause is ‘just’ we will prevail. My question: What is our cause? Toppling a dictator? Finding WMD? Bringing democracy to Iraq? With such a fluid “cause” I question just how truly JUST it is? Just more sleight of hand, misdirection, pontificating verbosity and unqualified for GWB’s failed policy. Somehow these people don’t get the equation: Failure + More failure DOES NOT equal success!

Anything happen in this morning’s committee? I had to take some time to mow the jungle that used to be my yard. I hope to stick around long enough to hear Wexler. He solicited questions from citizens, so it will be interesting to see which ones he chooses to use.
On track: It would be very difficult to come up with a more dishonest public figure than Lieberman. Unfortunately, the case of his website reads more like rank incompetence to me than deliberate sabotaging by his side, so I don’t hold much hope for him being charged with filing a false police report. He does, of course, deserve to be hounded mercilessly on this and all of his other failures of character.

If you look carefully, there are now 171 Iraqi army battalions listed, compared to 115 in January 2007, 15 months (2.5 FU) ago. Note especially the green section of the bar. That is the number of battalions at the highest level of operational readiness. It looks to me like that number has actually gone down.
So, in fifteen months, the function Petraeus came from before he took command in Iraq (the training of Iraqi troops) is an abject failure when you consider only those Iraqi battalions capable of carrying out operations on their own. We saw that fact in its full starkness in Basra just a few days ago.

They’re also under-reporting the civilian death toll, especially for March ‘08. Iraq Body Count (which can be seen as the lowest possible death toll, because of the way they count) shows 1378 civilian deaths for March ‘08.

Wasn’t it Wolfie who said we would be greeted with roses, be out in a few months, and get the Iraqis to pay for it all? I think that was the entire plan. I think I also heard that they had a PowerPoint somewhere on the plan for after the “victory” that had at least 20 slides. Someone might even have missed an hour of sleep to put that together.

I have been lurking here for a while now, and I find it funny that this is what finally prompts me to peek out of my cave and say hi. So many things to be angry at in the wold, but the Lieberman re-election debacle is such a sore spot with me. I live in Massachusetts, but my parents lived in Connecticut for a couple of years while I was in college, so I feel a small connection to the state, and I met Joe Lieberman years ago and detested him on sight. Truly a smarmy little weasel. Anyway, I made phone calls for Ned Lamont and canvassed for him because I knew it was a history making, game-changing campaign. And it was, regardless of the outcome. The oh-so wrong and tragic outcome.
When the story was put out that OMG those eeeeevil extremist Lamont supporters crashed Lieberman’s site, I knew the election was lost. The media coverage was ridiculous and I will never forget how helplessly, viciously angry I was and, of course, that anger has only grown since. Every time that vicious little rat who calls himself a senator opens his mouth and is rewarded for it by being plastered all over the teevee, I just scream “Freaking Connecticut,” and I haven’t visited the state since.
So, thanks for letting me get that out, and now I’ll head back to the safety of lurkdom.

Very late to this thread. I knew when I saw the story this morning that you would have steam pouring out your ears when you saw it. We all knew at the time exactly what was going on and the steno pool did what they always do. Talk about f*cking wh*res.
It would seem to me that filing a false complaint with the FBI should carry some kind of legal penalty. I hope we have someone looking into that.
The good news is that the Lamont message got out and resonated. Without your (and our) hard work for Ned the 06 sweep would not/could not have happened. Remember what a huge impact your words and deeds had and have.
