Hi ES, I got EPU’d!

Fun watching on teevee — the ChopperFive camera would cut real close whenever there was a chance that a flag-draped protester was nearby. Then when the security cordon had outrun the protesters, the chopper-cam would go wide. They clearly had their instructions, especially after the protesters met up with the Torch halfway up Van Ness.

I bet Newsom’s plan was to go across the GG Bridge, to counteract all Monday’s publicity, thereby supplying his Chinese overlords with lots of photo ops. But the late start ran them right up to rush hour — and rush they did, right to SFO.

I did see the one unregulated moment on teevee, when I noticed my friend John Caldera, an essay winner, take the torch with his runner-partner. But she shook her arm and something came out of her sleeve; you couldn’t see what it was, but she was hustled away from the torch by the blue-and-white meanies. There was a brief paragraph about her in an earlier version of the constantly updated story on the Chronicle website, but I haven’t seen it again.

At least one torchbearer decided to show her support for Tibetan independence during her moment in the spotlight. After being passed the Olympic flame, Majora Carter pulled out a small Tibetan flag that she had hidden in her shirt sleeve.

“The Chinese security and cops were on me like white on rice, it was no joke,” said Carter, 41, who runs a non profit organization in New York.

“They pulled me out of the race, and then San Francisco police officers pushed me back into the crowd on the side of the street.”

What’s on my mind today (besides the glorious protests in SF as described in Late Nite) is why, when I’m paying an attorney to do my taxes, does it take me so long just to get together the information he needs to do them? His questionairre is longer than the tax return!

As you can see on my set of pics, it wasn’t spotted. But beek and the underside of that tail sure looked like it. There were two of them.

Channel 7 had good coverage and they didn’t seem to be holding back the coverage… the only time they censored was during and interview in Justice
Herman plaza. some one came up with a poster with pictures showing victims of Chinese brutality in Tibet… but they stay with it for several moments… long enough and close enough so you couldn’t miss the pictures!

It is still early in the season, they will show their spots as they molt.

KTVU (the BA’s FOX affiliate) seemed to keep pretty good tabs on the goings-on, but I only saw bits and pieces throughout the day.

ktvu may be fox owed but before i moved up here, they were still considered to be independent with regard to their newsroom. it might have changed since then.

They showed a naked guy wrapped in the Tibetan flag here on the local news in LA.

In other news, my favorite baseball player in the whole world, Angels catcher Mike Napoli, hit a grand slam home run today and recorded the final game winning out against the Cleveland Indians.

the apod and the espod are both on my daily must see list. been visiting apod since the 90’s and the espod i found about the time i moved up here, so maybe 4 years. excellent eye candy on both sites and i learn something knew too.

I was raised GOP. I was disgusted by LBJ when I served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Washington State Dems disgusted me. When I got to Alaska, the Dems were at least as bad as the GOPers. I left the GOP when the Fungelicals began taking over the Alaska apparatus in 1981-82. You might say that Jerry Falwell “saved me” from being a Republican. I was then a Green for 16 years. I joined the Dems last year, and am now district and area (an area as big as New England) Party Secretary.
