the time of o’neill. That and his nostalgia for a catholic working class
meaning white catholic working class politics obsoletes him totally. That

This morning on Imus, Lance Morrow of Time magazine said that maybe McCain’s the only one who could end the Iraq war, in the way that Nixon could go to China…..

but then also, someone he would not name, a top George HW Bush security advisor, a “big cheese” said he had switched his registration from Repub to Dem and will vote for Obama.

oh, and the “cheese” thinks poor l’il Bushie was led astray by those big, bad Dicks, Dick Rummy & Wolfie.

So the efforts at legacy whitewash will doubtless be fierce.

Juan Cole* makes an analogy this morning: the Lebanese civil war sputtered on for 14 years after the invasion by Syria (greeenlighted by Henry Kissinger). In other words, foreign occupation did not end the civil war, nor did Israel’s invasion, nor did the presence of U.S. marines. Foreign interference juvenilizes the domestic parties and allows them to avoid the hard work of compromise. Comment?
