Five years into this war and Joe Biden scores a “gotcha” on Crocker. Whew, I don’t know if I can handle such a deep thrust into BushCo war crimes.

Except that Whitehouse, who was a USAtty/lawyer asks exceptional questions, getting right to the heart of the issues and zeroing in on the areas where there need to be answers with very pointed, targeted questions. “Lawyers” is a fairly broad term, but people who have been trial attorneys — who have had to hone questioning skills in adversarial courtroom settings before juries — ought to have a better grasp of the skills necessary.

And attorney like Harriet Miers, say, who did not do much courtroom work at all — whose skills lay in negotiating deals or in firm PR — would not have those skills. And elected officials who have never really practiced trial law wouldn’t have them either, legal training or no.

This would also be true for elected folks who were journalists or educators, btw — people who have had to hone their communications skills understand the need for more digestible bits for public consumption and comprehension.

I think that is the problem with having elected officials that are trained lawyers. You are more likely to get argument style questions than pointed questions. These lawyer senators are too much in the habit of making long winded speech questions that end with a question that is meant to lead the witness to agree or disagree with their argument. They ask and answer their own question leaving the witness to just avoid the question if they disagree, which ends up being ineffective.

Without doubt. His spots will not out, nor will his blood-stained hands be cleansed, but ghosts will trouble either of them. Except perhaps for Nixon’s, to which they direct the epithets McSame uses with Cindy when she reminds him he’s going bald. Only in Nixon’s case, it will be their reminding him that he had too much respect for the law, and left his office inadequately protected from its reach.

I know just where you are. Once I lived in Foster City and my apartment, though lovely and on the water, had dips across the floor and slanted unevenly. It didn’t start out that way. It settled and moved as the land shifted.

There used to be a four story limit on all buildings on landfill. Developers and corporations got the building code changed and now Foster City has high rises. I worked on Oracle’s campus and many times I’d envision those giant buildings sinking deep in the quicksand, Larry Ellison gone forever.
