My dad had Parkinson’s and at first his speech was a few slurs, after many years no one could understand a word he said, his speech was like babies before they learn to talk. Sounds came out but it was just gibberish. My mom had alzheimers and we could understand every single word she said even though it didn’t make sense. I don’t know why the article below says “subtle language problems”, my dad lived with the disease for about 10 years and like I said, no one could understand a thing he said. I’d call that severe language changes. He also would lean to one side and could not keep his balance and would fall often. But it you held his hand and walked with him then he was ok. Of course, at the end of both these diseases both parents died, in my opinion of starvation because neither could get food down. But, also, the slurring of speech and continued misunderstanding of concept…that is hallmark early onset Alzheimer’s. The complete inability for the man to distinguish Sunni from Shia concerns (when, surely he’s briefed almost hourly), is a very disturbing sign.
